KENNESAW, GA – On Friday April 26, the Omicron-Kappa Chapter participated in the Kennesaw State InterFraternal Council (IFC) Week of Service, or more recently titled “IFC Gives Back.”  Grand Procurator, Derek Leggett and others took it upon themselves to prepare a 100-pound pig for the First Annual Kappa Sig Pig-Jig to support the Military Heroes Campaign.

The event’s attendance, level of support and enjoyable atmosphere made the event a complete success.  Donating participants enjoyed a variety of field activities throughout the day and received a plate of barbeque, right off the smoker and home-cooked sides and deserts, prepared by some generous sorority women.

Worthy Grand Master of Ceremonies, Derek Marchman, made an appearance at the philanthropy event, along with Omicron-Kappa Alumni and Kappa Sigma brothers from nearby chapters. Aside from the numerous brothers in attendance, many ladies from KSU sororities and university officials came to show their support for the Military Heroes Campaign and The Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

The chapter looks forward to planning an even-larger event for next years Pig-Jig and anticipates the continuation of this annual philanthropy event in years to come.

Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement involving college and high school students at more than 150 schools across the country, all raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in their community. These students spend a year learning invaluable leadership and life skills while raising funds and interacting with children’s hospital patients and families. The year culminates with a 12-40 hour long event where the students stay on their feet through dancing, games and entertainment in celebration of the total amount raised that year.

Each event is entirely student run and all donate 100% of the funds raised directly to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Last year alone, college dance marathons raised more than $8 million.

The Omicron-Kappa chapter is in the midst of wrapping up the final days of the year and as we do so, we would like to recognize our

Dillon Horak, GS

Outstanding Brother of the Semester.  This past Fall semester has been a rebuilding period for the chapter and by renovating chapter operations, it is necessary for those standout leaders to step up to the plate.  Fortunately, the chapter has had a unanimous goal and headstrong mindset of making this chapter, the best chapter we can possibly become.One brother has stuck out the most this semester, by serving as a leader, a scholar, a gentleman and one who truly resembles the Star and Crescent.

Grand Scribe, Soph. Dillon Horak (20) has proven to our members, time and time again, that he takes his Obligation as a Brother and an Officer with great dedication and seriousness.  Most recently, brother Horak is one of O-K’s Fall 2012 recipients of Endowment Fund’s Scholarship-Leadership Award, presented by KΣ National Headquarters biannually.  He has excelled in academics since his time at KSU, by obtaining a 3.4 GPA; all while holding the Officer position of Grand Scribe for two-consecutive years.  The actions of Brother Dillon Horak should be acknowledged by his peers, brothers and family, because if it wasn’t for the hard work of this brother, our chapter would lack a great, positive role model.
