Learn How To Play Poker

Rules and how to play Poker:

The Basics
Poker originated in the saloons of the Wild West and has probably the most game variants. It is played player against players and not just against the dealer as in Blackjack, and there is a lot of psychology involved during play. Poker takes a moment to learn and a lifetime to master.
Poker is played from a standard deck of 52 cards. Some variant games use multiple decks or add Jokers or Wild Cards.
The cards are ranked in descending order starting from the highest; Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. Ace can be high or low. There are four suits; spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs, but no suit is higher than another.
Each player is dealt five cards and is called a hand. The hand highest in ranks wins. In some games there are Wild Cards or Jokers, which can be labelled whatever suit and rank the possessor wishes to.
The Ranking of Poker Hands
The ranking of poker hands based on probability starting from the highest are as follows.
There are 2,598,960 possible combinations of cards in a poker hand you can be dealt. In brackets below next to the ranking of hands, are 1st the number of possible hands of that rank in 2,598,960 possible combinations, and 2nd your chances of getting one in percentage probability:

Five of a Kind (with a Wild card or Joker)

Royal Flush (4 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.000154%)

Straight Flush (36 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.00139%)

Four of a Kind (624 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.0240%)

Full House (3744 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.144%)

Flush (5108 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.197%)

Straight (10,200 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.392%)

Three of a Kind (54912 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 2.11%)

Two Pair (123,552 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 4.75%)

Pair (1,098,240 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 42.26%)

High Card (1,302,540 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 50.12%)

Five of a Kind is only possible when using wild cards and is the highest possible hand. If more than one hand has five-of-a-kind, the higher rank wins; e.g. five Aces beat five kings, which beat five queens, and so on.
Straight Flush is the best natural hand. A straight flush consists of five cards in sequence and of the same suit. An Ace high straight-flush is called a Royal Straight Flush or Royal Flush and is the highest natural hand.
Four of a Kind is a hand that contains of four cards of the same rank. The hand with the highest rank of four-of-a-kind beats other four-of-a-kind hands. If there are many wild cards, as used in some game variants, there could be two four-of-a-kind hands with the same rank. In this case, the hand with the higher ranking fifth card wins. This rule applies to hands that tie, such as a pair or two pairs. Dead heats split the pot.
Full House is a hand consisting of three-of-a-kind and a pair. Again, where Wild Cards are used, ties are compared first by the three-of-a-kind ranking, then the pair.
Flush is a hand consisting of cards that are all of the same suit in any order.
Straight is a hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence, such as 5-6-7-8-9. An Ace may either be high (A-K-Q-J-10) or low (A-2-3-4-5).
Three of a Kind is a hand similar to the four-of-a-kind hand, except that if the remaining two cards are a pair, then it becomes a Full House.
Two Pair is a hand that contains two pairs only.
Pair is a hand that contains one pair only.
High Card is a hand that is none of the above and is a weak hand. If no player has a pair or better, then the hand that contains the highest ranking card wins. If multiple players tie with the highest card, then the second highest card decides, followed by the third and so on.
Note on Wild Cards
How the wild card can be used depends on the game you are playing and the rules. A wild card can be defined as a joker or standard card that, by player agreement and/or dealer's choice, can be used to represent any card desired.
When a joker is in play, it usually can only be used as an Ace or to complete a straight or flush. It cannot be used as a true wild card, for example, as a king to make KK75X play as three kings. When playing for low, the joker becomes the lowest rank not already held, so 864AX is played as 8642A, with the joker used as a deuce.
Wild cards add an additional hand, five of a kind, which normally ranks above a straight flush. They can also cause confusion when two players hold the same hand composed of different wild card combinations. The standard rules of poker do not distinguish between such hands, but some players prefer to rank hands using fewer wild cards above less 'natural' versions of the same hand.
Playing Poker
In most games players must 'ante' a nominal amount just to have the cards dealt. Once the cards are dealt, the betting starts. Players bet into the pot in the middle of the table and it is done in turn clockwise.
The player with the highest rank showing, is the first to speak and to bet. He can either bet or check. By saying 'Check', he passes the decision to bet to the next player who can also check. If all players check, then it is the end of the round. Everyone opens his cards and the highest hand wins.
Only after one player places a bet the real betting starts. Each player in turn can either 'Call', 'Raise' or 'Fold'. To fold is to pass or drop out of the round and not play. To call means willing to match the bet, and the same amount must be placed on the pot. To raise means to match the bet and add an extra bet.
Say you start with a $5 bet. If someone else raises $10, he puts $15 in the pot. When your turn comes again you need to add $10 difference to the pot to stay in the game, and if you want you can also raise or even say 'Pot'. Pot is a raise to the maximum, which means to bet the same amount as the total money available in the pot.
If there are no more raises and all the cards have been dealt, then it is the end of the round. Everyone opens his closed cards and the highest hand wins the pot.

Jailbreak

This page is our ultimate guide to jailbreaking. Along with information and frequently asked questions about everything jailbreak, you will find some detailed tutorials on how to jailbreak your iPhone.

If you already know it all about jailbreaking and are just looking for guides and tutorials, then scroll down to find instructions on how to jailbreak. If you are new to jailbreaking and want to learn more about it, I suggest you spend a few minutes reading more about this simple process.

At the bottom of this page, you will find information about various jailbreak methods. Simply look for the firmware version you want to jailbreak and the type of iPhone you have, then click on the link to see a detailed tutorial on how to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch.
What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking is the process by which an iPhone firmware is modified to allow unsigned code to be run in order to gain access to files that Apple wouldn’t normally let you access.

Jailbreaking adds unofficial application installers to your iPhone such as Cydia, which let you download many 3rd-party applications previously unavailable through the App Store.
What Are the Benefits of Jailbreaking?

The main reason why you’d want to jailbreak is to have the ability to install third party applications that Apple doesn’t or wouldn’t approve in the App Store. There are tons of applications that don’t meet Apple standards or that do things Apple doesn’t want you to do for various reasons.

For example, Apple doesn’t allow you to customize your iPhone by changing app icons or the general user interface of your device. Thanks to the jailbreak community, there are several ways to completely change the way your iPhone looks, WinterBoard being the most popular one.

Besides applications, jailbreaking also gives you access to tweaks, or mods. They’re not applications per se, but they bring subtle improvements to the way your iPhone operates. One of my favorite is Five Icon Switcher, a tweak that lets you have 5 icons in the iPhone app switcher, instead of the default 4.

Finally, a lot of people jailbreak their iPhone in order to be able to unlock it to work on a different carrier. When you want to unlock your iPhone, the first step is to jailbreak it to then run a software that will help you have other carriers work on your iPhone.

Looking for other reasons to jailbreak? I’ve got over 30 here.
Is Jailbreaking Legal?

Jailbreaking is completely legal, at least here in the US. For a long time, jailbreaking was in a shady spot where it wasn’t illegal, but it wasn’t legal either. In July 2010 though, the US government passed a rule that made jailbreaking legal.

So there is nothing to worry about. Even if you don’t live in the US, there are very little chances Apple would sue you because you jailbroke your iPhone.
Can I Brick my iPhone if I Jailbreak it?

You might have heard a few horror stories about people who tried to jailbreak their iPhone and ended up turning it into a brick. While this could have happened in the early days of the iPhone, this is now completely impossible.

The worst thing that could happen when trying to jailbreak your iPhone is that it might get stuck and unresponsive, which some people may think is irreversible. It completely is, and usually, following these simple steps will make sure your iPhone goes back to its original state.
Does it Void my Warranty?

Yes and no. Yes because if you go to the Apple Store and show your jailbroken iPhone to an Apple employee, he will tell you he can’t help you because you voided your warranty the minute you jailbroke your iPhone.

But, if you really have to take your iPhone to Apple, you can always restore your it to its factory settings via iTunes. This will bring your iPhone back to the way it was when you first got it, and Apple will have no way of telling you ever jailbroke it.

I’ve taken previously jailbroken devices to Apple several times before and because I had restored them to factory settings, Apple wasn’t able to tell and they provided me with full support.
Is Jailbreaking the Same as Unlocking?

No, these are 2 different things, although to unlock your iPhone, you usually have to jailbreak first. As noted above, jailbreaking an iPhone lets you install third party applications and mods on it, while unlocking allows you to use your iPhone with a different carrier.

You may learn more about the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking here.
Can I Still Use iTunes and the App Store After Jailbreaking?

People often ask me this question. Yes, you can use iTunes and the App Store after jailbreaking your device. As a matter of fact, nothing will change much. The only notable change will be that after jailbreaking, you will have a new application installed on your iPhone: Cydia.
What is Cydia?

In short, Cydia is like the App Store of jailbreak applications. Just like the App Store, you can browse Cydia for apps, tweaks, and mods. Just like the App Store, you can download and install Cydia apps effortlessly. Most applications in Cydia are free, but it is not unusual for a jailbreak app to sell for a few dollars.
Will Jailbreaking Prevent me from Updating my iPhone?

Yes and no.

If your iPhone is jailbroken and you decide to update it to the latest software, doing so will overwrite the jailbreak and remove it from your iPhone. This might not be a big problem to most people, but it can become a big issue to people like me who rely a lot on their jailbreak applications.

Every time there is a new firmware update for the iPhone, hackers generally aren’t too far behind with an update to their jailbreak tools. When that happens, the preferred method is to backup your iPhone first, update to the latest firmware, and jailbreak again using the updated tools.

It’s important to note that it sometimes takes a while for hackers to develop a jailbreak following a software update of the iPhone, which is why we usually recommend jailbreakers to hold on on updating their iPhone when a new iOS version is available.
Can Jailbreaking Allow me to Get App Store Applications for Free?

Yes indeed, but we do not help people install cracked applications on their iPhones for moral reasons.
Is Jailbreaking Easy?

These days, jailbreaking is becoming more and more easy. Usually, you just need to download a piece of software, plug your iPhone in, and run the software. There is no specific knowledge or skills required.

You will find some very useful tutorials at the bottom of this page. If you don’t feel completely comfortable jailbreaking your iPhone, make sure to have a look at our tutorials, they will guide you through the process with step by step illustrated instructions.
What is the Best Jailbreak Software?

There isn’t a best jailbreak tool, there is only a best jailbreak program that fits your iPhone requirements. Jailbreak methods can vary depending on your device, what firmware version it is running, and what kind of computer your are using (Mac or PC).
Is a Jailbreak Free?

Yes. Hackers that are developing the jailbreaks do it for free, sometimes (rarely) asking for a donation. Some people may charge you for walking you through the jailbreaking process. If that makes you feel better to pay someone, you can do it, but why pay when you can get it for free?
