Here are some great exercises to do that will help you lose weight and workout those abs.

The Bicycle exercise is the best exercise to target the abs and the waist, according to a study done by the American Council on Exercise. To do this exercise correctly:
1. Lie face up on the floor and lace your fingers behind your head.
2. Bring the knees in towards the chest and lift the shoulder blades off the ground without pulling on the neck.
3. Straighten the left leg out while simultaneously turning the upper body to the right, bringing the left elbow towards the right knee.
4. Switch sides, bringing the right elbow towards the left knee.
5. Continue alternating sides in a ‘pedaling’ motion for 12-16 reps.

The vertical leg crunch is another effective move to lose belly fat especially for the ab area and the obliques. To do it correctly:
1. Lie face up on the floor and extend the legs straight up with knees crossed.
2. Contract the abs to lift the shoulder blades off the floor, as though reaching your chest towards your feet.
3. Keep the legs in a fixed position and imagine bringing your belly button towards your spine at the top of the movement.
4. Lower and repeat for 12-16 reps.

Doing the exercise ball is an excellent tool to strengthen the abs and just a great workout if done right. Here’s what you should do:
1. Lie face-up with the ball resting under your mid/lower back.
2. Cross your arms over the chest or place them behind your head.
3. Contract your abs to lift your torso off the ball, pulling the bottom of your ribcage down toward your hips.
4. As you curl up, keep the ball stable (i.e., you shouldn’t roll).
5. Lower back down, getting a stretch in the abs, and repeat for 12-16 reps.

The plank exercise is a great way to build endurance in the abs and back, as well as stabilizer muscles. To do it right:
1. Lie face down on mat resting on the forearms, palms flat on the floor.
2. Push off the floor, raising up onto toes and resting on the elbows.
3. Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels.
4. Tilt your pelvis and contract your abdominal to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air.
5. Hold for 20 to 60 seconds, lower and repeat for 3-5 reps.

Doing these 4 great exercises will help you lose that weight in the ab area, help tone and overtime just have you looking and feeling great.

There are different ways of losing weight but here is one way you can start to lose it by what you eat. Certain foods can help burn fat and speed up your metabolism. Including some of these foods into your daily diet can help with losing weight. Here is a list of some foods that can help:

Low Fat Dairy Products – Recent studies have shown that people who consume at least 3 servings of low fat dairy each day lose up to 70% more than people who do not consume dairy. The key appears to be the calcium in foods such as yogurt, cheese, and milk.

Eggs – Eggs are an excellent source of protein and vitamin B-12. Vitamin B-12 aids the body in breaking down and burning fat.

Citrus Fruits – Citrus is very high in Vitamin C which has some fat burning properties. Basically, Vitamin C makes fat less effective and can help dilute fat which makes it easier to be released from the body.

Oatmeal - Oatmeal which is high in soluble fiber not only can help in burning fat it can help lower your cholesterol.

Beans – Beans including soybeans are high in fiber, protein and iron. Soybeans in particular have the chemical lecithin which may assist in the process of shielding cells from accumulating fat.

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables- Especially apples, berries, beets, cabbage, sweet potatoes, and asparagus contain pectin. Pectin can help limit the amount of fat which the cells can absorb and can help the cells absorb more water which can help release fat deposits.

Whole Grains – Whole grains are less processed than other forms of grain based carbohydrates which allow them to retain more of the natural fiber and minerals.

Lean Meats– Lean meats such as turkey, chicken and beef are extremely high in protein and can help boost the immune system. Fish such as salmon and tuna have the “healthy fat” omega 3 fatty acid in addition to being high in protein which is excellent for boosting the immune system.

This list is far from conclusive but it is a good start. Integrating some of these foods into your daily diet should help you with your weight loss. Add some exercise with this and the weight should start to come right off.

You need Cardio when it comes to losing weight. Weight loss and proper weight loss can’t be achieved without it and the best thing about cardio workouts is there are some many different types. Here are a few cardio exercises-workouts that will help you lose that weight or just stay in great shape.

A couple of times a week, put on your running shoes and run around your neighborhood a few times . Running will tremendously help you and is known as one of the best exercises to get in shape. You heart rate will increase and your body will rapidly burn off calories which will help you lose weight. Some other things that can double the amount of calories burned are running up hills or adding sprints to your workout.

Riding a biking is another great cardio workout that can be done at your home or if you go to a gym with a stationary bike. With this exercise you can increase the muscle and endurance in your legs as well as burn calories. As you do the bike more, increase your minutes each time so you continue to burn more calories.

Swimming uses the whole body to exercise and the more parts of the body that we use to workout, the more calories we will burn. The breaststroke will burn the most calories when swimming and your whole body will be supported by water, so you will not have to worry about injuries. It is also an activity the whole family can enjoy together .

Walking is something we can do just about anywhere. Walking at a fast pace can help to build endurance and work off those calories. If you like to change things up you can jog a little and then walk a little to help burn off more calories.

The best cardio exercise/workout that we can do is the one done daily. Exercising daily with cardio workouts will help to lean up the body and build muscle. Also don’t be afraid to change exercises up every now and then, so your body does not completely adjust to the same thing every time. Also, setting your exercises in intervals and moving up in levels each time will help.

So when trying to lose weight or just stay in shape, cardio is the way to go. It can be hard at times but with a daily routine you should be able to get in shape in no time. So remember when trying to lose weight you have to think, you didn’t but the weight on overnight so don’t think it will come off overnight.

Do you know what foods to stay away from when trying to lose weight? Once you know what foods can cause you to gain weight you can start to try to remove them from your diet. Here is a list of some of the worst types of foods.

Stay away from Sugary Foods
Most of the sugar people comsume daily is a high fructose corn syrup-synthetic form of sugar which can be found in sodas and candy. Sugar can also be found in items like lunch meats, baked beans and even gum. If you need sugar fruits are a good source of it.

Saturated Fat
Try to limit your intake of saturated fats- most of which is found in foods such as red meat, cream, and butter. Foods such as fish, olive oil, avocado, and walnuts are some great sources of foods that are unsaturated, which can help to lower your levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the “bad type of cholesterol”.

Foods with High Sodium
According to the N.A.S., the average woman needs only 500 milligrams of sodium a day. Most people get more than six times that, or 3,000-6,000 milligrams per day. The consequence of all this sodium — most of which is consumed as salt and preservatives in processed foods like tv dinners, and fast food. That’s because where sodium goes, water follows.

Flour heavy foods
When trying to lose weight or just stay in shape, try to stay away from foods that are white or beige, reason being they can contain a lot of white flour. Most people wouldn’t think that foods with flour are bad, but due to white flour’s easy digestibility, your body immediately processes the flour and converts it to glucose. Glucose = Sugar (bad). Examples of foods that contain a lot of white flour are: Waffles, pancakes, pizza and bread.

Fried Foods
We should all know that fried foods are one of the worst types of food. Fried foods are very unhealthy and heavily saturated with fat. Many people trying to lose weight or stay fit will try to consume fried foods in “moderation,” but there’s still a chance that weight gain can still happen even if these foods are consumed in small portions. Here are so examples of fried foods: French fries- sold just about everywhere, corn dogs, and chicken nuggets just to name a few. Oh do this foods taste so good.

So when trying to lose weight or just stay in shape remember if you think its bad for you then it probably is.

Ever heard of being able to party and work out at the same time? Well with the new Latin dancing sensation Zumba you can do just that. So what is Zumba you ask? Well Zumba is an exercise program that incorporates dance movements that are combined to tone and sculpt your body while also burning fat. While doing Zumba you will not only experience an exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements but you will achieve long-term benefits as well. Zumba has many different interval training sessions. These training sessions are where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined with a little bit of Latin flaor. This dancing sensation was started by celebrity fitness trainer “Beto” Perez in the mid 90’s. The goal for this program is: “We want you to want to workout, to love working out, and to get hooked.”Over the past years Zumba has become the single most influential movement in the industry of fitness. As of May 2010 Zumba was being taught at over 60,000 locations in 105 countries. It has also sold millions of DVDs and has 7.5 million people partaking in this dancing sensation every week. So if dancing and weight loss sounds like the thing for you then check out Zumba.

As we all may know being over weight can lead to many different health concerns. However some people are not aware of how severe these health concerns can be. A person who is 40% or more overweight is twice as likely to die sooner then someone who is average weight. Being overweight or obese has been linked to several different health concerns:

Heart disease
Stroke
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Cancer
Gallbladder disease and gallstones
Osteoarthritis
Gout
Breathing problems such as sleep apnea
Asthma

So you might ask, “How is being overweight or obese linked to these health concerns?” Well I am going to tell you all about it.

If you didn’t know heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and being overweight or obese more then doubles your chances for heart disease. High cholesterol can lead to heart disease and is often linked to being overweight or obese. Angina (chest pain cause by decreased oxygen to the heart) and sudden death can also be caused by being overweight or obese and sometimes without any warnings. Losing even the smallest amount of weight can reduce your chances of developing heart disease.

There are different types of diabetes however being overweight or obese can lead to type 2 diabetes which reduces your body’s ability to control your blood sugar. Being overweight or obese can more then double you chances of getting type 2 diabetes compared to someone who is not overweight or obese. More then 80% of diagnosed type 2 diabetes can be linked to being overweight or obese. In order to reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes all you need to do is lose weight and increase your level of physical activity.

Several types of cancer are also linked to being overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese can increase your risk of dying from cancer. These are different in men and women. Men who are overweight are at risk for colorectal and prostate cancer. Women who are overweight are at risk for uterus, gallbladder, cervix, ovary, and breast and colon cancer.

Gout is a disease that affects the joints and is more commonly found in overweight people. With gout you have high levels of uric acid in the blood and this substance can form into solid or crystal-like masses that deposit in the joints. Being overweight increases your risk for developing this disorder.

Sleep apnea is a condition that affects a person’s breathing. There are a few types of sleep apnea. With this condition a person may snore heavily and even stop breathing for short periods of time while sleeping. This is found in many overweight and obese people and may be improved with weight loss.

These are just a few issues that come with being overweight or obese. Many of these issues can be fixed with something as little as losing weight. However these complications are serious and if one should experience any issues it should be talked about with your doctor.

While some of you might know what this workout is about here is a brief rundown for those of you who don’t. P90X was created by Tony Horton who’s goal is to “get ripped in 90 days.” This workout was created to help you get into shape and stay in shape with just two key components: Proper exercise and proper nutrition. So how does it work you ask, well here is how it goes.

P90X is different from the traditional workout programs because it uses the training science of muscle confusion. As the 90 day workout progresses your body starts to change and the workouts do too. The workout part of the program has three Phases that are constantly changing by incorporating new moves and routines to follow along with the changes that are happening to your body. Compared to traditional workouts which often have a “Plateau Effect”, the P90X avoids this by challenging your muscles. This is done by alternating between many different movements which helps your muscles to continue to grow throughout the 90 days.

The P90X workout includes three guides to help you “bring it”. These guides are “P90X Workout 3 phase Nutrition Plan” which is designed to help give you energy and help you to burn fat, “P90 X Fitness Guide” which walks you through each phase and outlines the workout schedule, and “How to Bring It” is an introduction to the workout system and helps you to get started. Not only does the P90X have the guides to help you along your 90 day journey but is also composed of 12 different workout videos which include: Chest and Back, Plyometrics, Shoulders and Arms, Yoga X, Legs and Back, Kenpo X, X Stretch, Core Synergistics, Chest, Shoulders and Triceps, Back and Biceps, Cardio X, and Ab Ripper.

So if this workout sounds like the one for you should try it. The workout plan works your muscles hard. If you have tried it let me know what you think.

The popularity of diets is on the rise. So you ask yourself “Which diet is best for me?” Here is a break down of some of the known diets in 2010.

South Beach-South Beach diet is what they consider a “food lovers diet.” South Beach diet focus is on living well and loving what you eat. This diet is geared toward helping you eventually change your eating lifestyle 365 days a year. Phase 1 last two weeks and helps to eliminate the cravings and jump-start weight loss. Phase 2 is to help get you to your healthy weight. This phase will extend until that point. Phase 3 is all about maintaining your healthy weight and eating healthy 365 days a year.

Atkins- Atkins diet is noted for being the most natural, easiest, tastiest, and most long-term way to lose weight. This diet will help you to jump start your weight loss, keep losing, reach a goal and never have to diet again. Atkins diet is also developed into phases. Phase 1 is where you will jump start your diet. You could potentially lose up to 15 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Phase 2 is called OWL which stands for ongoing weight loss. This phase is designed for you to be able to add more carbohydrates back into your diet and still be able to lose weight. Phase 3 is similar to phase 2 as you are still adding carbohydrates back into your diet and slowly losing the weight to reach your goal. By phase 4 you have reached your goal and now it is all about marinating your weight. By now you know what foods to eat and how to keep the weight off.

Weight Watchers-Weight Watchers is a common diet people use. Everyone knows this diet for counting of points, however the diet goes deeper then just the point value. Weight Watchers helps you not only to lose the weight but also teaches you how to keep it off. Here’s how it works: First you learn how to handle hunger and how to steer clear of those temptations, then you’ll learn how to stay fuller longer by eating properly with filling food, making healthy smart choices will become second nature to you. You will also get expert information based on the latest research also will be able to rely on easy-to-follow plans, the Momentum program will help you to choose your food selection wisely with the Point system, and lastly you will be able to adapt to your plan so that it can work for you both now and in the future.

So when choosing a diet there are so many of them out there. Do your research and remember that losing weight doesn’t happen overnight.

These days it’s difficult to turn on the television or radio and not be subjected to the world of fat loss. Between the crazy fad diets and gimmicky promises, the weight loss conundrum can be difficult to make sense of. Sadly, what most soon people discover is that there really is no magical solution to the fat loss problem. Yes, ultimately the only way to tackle this problem is the same way people have been doing it for hundreds of years: Diet and Exercise.

Don’t be grim though—it’s not as bad as it sounds. A good diet and exercise program can have benefits that extend far beyond simple fat loss. More energy, a healthier heart and a lower risk of major health problems are just a few of these added incentives. The truth is that being fat—for lack of a better term—is quite unhealthy. Studies have shown that the deep layering of fat that surrounds your midsection can precipitate heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. For this reason, if for no other, beginning a healthy diet and exercise program, one that can help burn off the extra fat around your belly, makes perfect sense and there really is no time like the present.

Diet and Fat Loss

When you were younger, perhaps you could eat anything you wanted without concern for weight gain. No matter how much you ate your body was able to burn it off. As you have aged, though, and your metabolism has slowed, many of these calories have begun to stick around in the form of fat. To combat this you need to be more careful about the food that goes into your body. Certain substances are necessary for your body to function as it should. Protein carbohydrates and fat are all necessary, but you need to be careful to choose from the right sources and to eat only the correct amount.

A good starting point is 2500 calories a day for the average person. Choose from lean protein sources like chicken and fish and try to avoid too much red, fatty meat. For your carbohydrates, eat lots of whole grains and try to avoid processed foods like chips and donuts. Watch your fat intake carefully and choose sources which are heart healthy, like canola or olive oil. Eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of two or three huge ones. This will supply your body with enough energy throughout the day without gorging yourself and having that bloated feeling. Remember to stop eating at least three hours before you go to bed. Food consumed late will not have ample time to be burned off and may signal the body to turn it into fat instead.

Exercise and Fat Loss

There really is no way around it. If you want to lose fat, you’re going to need to get moving. Spend at least 30-60 minutes each day doing some type of cardiovascular exercise. This could be a brisk walk, a jog, riding a bike or working out on a treadmill. The type does not really matter. What matters is that you choose one and commit to it.

Fat loss, like any worthwhile activity, is not an easy process. The work can be demanding, but the results far outweigh any short term pain or inconvenience. This is the only body you are going to get, so for health’s sake, start taking care of it.

Most people don’t realize that during everyday activities you are burning calories. The amount of calories that a person burns each day is different. It all depends on age, weight, gender, amount of physical activity and your genetic makeup. Men tend to burn more calories then women simply because of the fact that men have more muscle mass then women.

Simple daily activities such as sleeping, walking, dancing, basketball, swimming, and even sex help you burn calories each and every day. These activities however don’t help you burn the same amount of calories as you would if you were to incorporate a daily exercise routine into your lifestyle. The recommended amount of calories you need to burn daily also depends on your age, weight, gender, and also the amount of calories you intake each day.

Sleeping: 50 Calories

Walking: 100 Calories

Dancing: 160 Calories

Basketball: 160 Calories

Swimming: 240 Calories

Remember these are estimates. Depending on different factors they could be more or less. If you are burning this many calories just doing every day activities imagine how many more calories you could burn by incorporating a daily exercise routine into your routine.
