The World's Slowest Bathroom Redecorating Job

I mentioned on a post-it note Tuesday (The Tuesday week before last) that I hated, and would never again apply wallpaper! When I originally hung it in 1992, it looked great. Now, not so much! (I took a picture of it, but now I can't find it. Only thing I can figure is it's on my son's SD card. If I find it, I'll post it later.)

The paper came off easy enough, leaving the backing. The backing takes a little getting wet and then it peels off... leaving the paste! UGH!! I then have to scrub, and scrub, and scrub some more, to get the paste off. It's making me crazy!

I'm sure it will be great once it's finished. I've already picked out a shower curtain and matched a gallon of paint to it. The walls are going to bed a rust red color! And hubby said we can get new flooring... not sure why? Well, it could be because the old floor has yellowed where the floor mats sat and is really yucky looking!

I think I want to tile the floor this time and be done with it. Of course I'd love a beautiful granite tile, but will probably end up with the slate-looking one I found at Lowe's for just $1.58 sq/ft. It will go well with the colors scheme I've come up with since it has an array of colors in it, including red. And, with that many colors surely if I get tired of the red walls I can find something else that will match.

So, anyone have any suggestions for getting paste off the walls? If not it may be June before I'm done... I'll keep you posted!

Blogger Static Pages - Finally!

I love Blogger. I know! I know! If you use Word Press you're bound and determined they are better. However, I have found, for me personally, that Blogger does just about everything Word Press does and is easier to use.

My biggest complaint though, was something that must have been other blogger's complaints too because it has now been addressed!

Static Pages!

It was easy enough to start a blog, even give it a custom domain, and even host it on another platform, (such as Hostgator or GoDaddy) but without having static pages, you just couldn't make it into a website.

I don't know how long this option has been there (apparently I'm clueless!) but today when I went to make a new post I accidentally hit Edit Pages. What? What are pages? Are they what I think they are? YES! And, you can make up to 10 of them!

So, I immediately started transferring my Word Press blogs. It will take me a while to copy and paste all the posts and pages, but I'm doing it. And honestly, it won't take all that long. In about 20 minutes this morning I set up one at Mia Minerals And More. I'm not sure I love this template, it has some quirks I'm not digging, but I can always change that. And, I need to put it on my custom domain once I'm done transferring everything. But you can see an example of how a custom page will look by visiting the one I set up HERE.

It's really easy to add them too! You just click on >Posting, >Edit Pages, >New Page. Viola!

In the new blog, that I just set up, the pages are listed in the sidebar, but when you go to make your first new page, you can choose if you want them listed there or across the top. (under your header) That's another reason I will probably be changing this template. It didn't look right with them across the top - a glitch in the template - and I'd prefer them up there.

What Should I Get My Sister For Her Anniversary?

So, my sister's anniversary is coming up. What are some great gifts for her? I'm just not very creative and I'm having a hard time thinking of something original.

So that you know a little about her, she had a blog, which she hasn't been updating, but you can see some of her past posts and delve a little into her nature by visiting Take A Break From The Daily Grind.

In brief I'll tell you that she likes crafts, scrapbooking in particular. She's sentimental and usually gives me something that reflects that such as an engraved crystal vase or a photo cake. She LOVES bath & body products and jewelry and candles, and she likes her dog to have cute little outfits. She watches kids in her home as a source of extra income, so I'm sure could use some pampering for herself. She likes customized ring tones on her cell phone. And she likes bling.

Any ideas, suggestions? Help!!

I Saw Sherlock Holmes!

We actually went about a month ago, (shows how good I am at this blogging thing, huh?) but I still wanted to tell you what I thought about it.

I loved it!

Let me first start by clairifying something. A few people I know wouldn't watch it because it seems to be dealing with black magic. And, honestly, if I didn't know something about Sherlock Holmes, I would have felt that way and not watched it either. But, I do know about Sherlock Holmes. You see, the beginning of the movie is dark. It looks like a Satanic ritual is going on, and then in another scene it looks like the guard is possessed.

However, I had read Sherlock Holmes stories when I was younger and knew that there was generally an explaination behind everything. And, I was right! I won't spoil it for you by telling you what the explainations were, but suffice it to say, it's all scientific in the end.

The movie not only has this mystery for Sherlock to unravel, it has suspense, and intrege and humor and lots of action. Holmes and Watson get themselves into all kinds of situations that would bump their life insurance rates up!

Sherlock Holmes is rated PG-13 and I do believe that under 13 is really too young. Not only would the story-line be too hard for them to follow, those dark scenes might give them nightmares for weeks to come.

However, if your old enough to understand (and like) Sherlock Holmes stories and/or a lover of Robert Downey, Jr. (my girlfriends think he's hot... I don't get it!) I think this is one movie you won't mind spending a few dollars on!

What Happens When You Overwater Your Plants? (Post-It Note Tuesday)

And, once again I'm a day late! (And a dollar short) It's the story of my life. If you want to be my friend (or blog reader) expect tardiness. It's such a bad habit, I know! But, it's apparently not fixable at this point.

Anyway, here are my Post-It Tuesday notes. (On Wednesday!)

Yes, Hubs is sick and I just know I'm gonna get it right in time for our weekend get-a-way! Grrrr!!

The dog makes these sounds like he's talking whenever he wants something because he hurts too much to go get it. We've come to know when it's water or if he wants to go upstairs. But, he is feeling better. We think he hurt himself sliding on the snow and ice last week. Last night he didn't talk at all!!

How I Got A New Kitchen Faucet

My kitchen faucet started leaking a few months ago. It was just running on top the sink and just a little at first. As it started leaking more, I asked hubby to fix it. He can do a lot of things such as simple mechanics, (replacing a starter, etc.) construction (he did most the framing on our house), and he's a whiz at fixing lawn mowers... but plumbing is not in his area of expertise. So, he told me to go get a new one.

I love being told to buy something! It's a free pass to shop. Normally there would be guilt involved with a purchase of this sort. But, not when I'm told I have to do it!

So, I went to Home Depot and then to Lowe's. I decided I was not buying an off brand. The last two faucets had been cheapos and I was not going that route again. They just don't last. It was going to be Delta, Moen, or Kohler faucets. And, I wanted to stick to a budget of not much more than $100. I also wanted it to be stainless steel.

Was I asking too much? At Home Depot I thought maybe I was. I found a few that met all my specs except they weren't stainless. But, Lowe's had a stainless Moen that I fell in love with.

Then I get home and Hubby says he's been talking to his cousin and all my old faucet needs is an O-ring to stop the leak! What? I have this great looking new faucet that I had my heart set on.

Hubby took one look at me and said, 'you've already found something you like better, haven't you?' Well, yeah! You told me I could get a new one!

So, he let me keep the new one! He was handy enough install it himself and now all I need is a new dishwasher and cabinet pulls and everything in my kitchen will be stainless.

The One About When I Got A Ticket

SupahMommy has more than just one fun meme and since I was busy yesterday, (getting my hair done, tanning and working out -- how spoiled does that sound? --Hey I went to the grocery too!) I didn't get to play along with MEme Monday -- And, I want to!!! So here it is, better late than never! (Like everything else in my life!)

If you've never been pulled over (seriously?!),tell us what you've done in your car that could get you pulled over!(didn't mean that to sound so racy!)If you're a goody two-shoes to the nth degree, tell us a funny story involving a car!

I got my first ticket EVER in the summer of 2008 (yes, my first ticket in over 20 years of driving... that's part of what made me so mad! I'm a good driver, dang you!) - and you would have thought the world came to an end! I was so irate I wanted to drive back to Alabama just to fight it... but I figured it was cheaper to just pay the dang thing.

Yes, I can be a bit of drama queen, but I still think it was justified in this situation.

We were on our way back from a Florida vacation and were in the very last county of Alabama before you hit the Tennessee line. Just a few more minutes and this would not have happened!

I was crusing along maybe 5 - 8 miles over the speed limit and was in the fast lane. I saw a police car in the median and so I pulled into the right lane -- TO GET OUT OF HIS WAY, MIND YOU, and he proceeds to pull me over!

WTH? I wasn't speeding! I started crying immediately which caused him to ask why... I guess he though my husband was harassing me. When he found out that wasn't the case, I think he thought my tears were funny!

Officer Carr - I'll never forget his name, not just because he made me mad, but because it's my mom's maiden name and I proceeded to tell him so while making small talk, which he didn't even care about; and, I'm convinced he had a quota to meet and I was his victim -- asked me why I was following the truck in front of me too close and why I didn't use my turn signal.

I was so flustered at first I didn't even remember a truck in front of me, but after he took me back to his police cruiser -- yes, I had to go sit in his car with him while he wrote my ticket up (which is all on an in-car computer now-a-days) -- it started coming back to me. I told him in our state we were to get out of the way of emergency vehicles. He said that was the law in Alabama too -- still no sympathy!

He said I was between 3 and 4 car lengths from the truck ahead of me and that he wouldn't pull me over for being 6 to 7 lengths, but 9 to 10 was optimum! Then he also gave me a warning for not using my turn signal.

Now, I probably wouldn't have been as mad if I had gotten the ticket for not using my turn signal. I know I didn't do that... but following to close??? Please! How can you prove that?

And, apparently I'm not alone in thinking this was silly. My son was pulled over for not stopping completely at a stop sign, (but he only received a warning) and the officer also asked for my ID and ran a check on me. He came back laughing and asked how I got a ticket for following to close! My husband said, 'Don't get her started!' He just replied, 'It happens to the best of us. I got a ticket a few months ago in another state!'

And that's how I ended up giving $160 to the state of Alabama!

How My Friend Realized She Had Chlorine Sensitivity

I was talking with a family friend the other day and I knew she could only drink certain water. Sound odd? I thought so, and I asked her what happened.

Well, a year or more ago she started having chronic diarrhea. It got to the point that she couldn't even leave home, and even her Doctor wasn't sure what was going on. She decided to go on a short trip to Gatlinburg and while there started to feel good. When she got home she got sick again. After racking her brain about what could be different she realized that the entire time she was on her trip she drank bottled water. So, she went out and purchased more of the water and within days she was doing better.

She spoke with her Doctor who told her it was probably a Chlorine sensitvity. That eneded up being the case and was proved when the water brand she was purchasing changed where they got their water from. Again she started getting sick, she called the water company and sure enough, their water was from different source. She then had to call every water company that sold locally to find one that didn't have Chlorine in it.

Then a few months ago she purchased a water filter that states it removes 99.5% of Chlorine and now she can drink tap water again!

She also purchased a filter for her shower and told me that the difference in the way her skin feels is amazing! Which only makes sense since breathing vaporized chlorine gas while showering or bathing has been shown to be worse than drinking chlorinated water.

So, should we all boy-cot chlorinated water? By no means! Chlorine has its uses and disinfecting our water supply is one of them. People in third-world countries die from bacteria-infected water. However, if you are sensitive to it, drinking it can make you sick but the solution is as simple as a filter!

Dixie Chicks For Music Monday

I miss the Dixie Chicks! They were never the same after they made some negative remarks about President Bush. What's funny about that is that the women on The View said a lot worse, but it was years later, when a lot of opinions had changed.

I still love their first three albums and play them all the time. This song, in particular, is one of my favorites. I love the outdoors and to me a Cowboy taking me away seems even better than Prince Charming!

The Acne Battle Is Over... You'll Never Guess How!

I mentioned in a post a while back that my son has been battling acne. Well, I'm sure there will be many dermatologists who wouldn't agree with this, especially since it's almost like an exposed acne treatment... but I looked at Son's face the other day and it was almost totally clear of acne. So, I said, 'your face looks really good!' To which he replied, 'that's funny since I haven't washed it in almost two weeks.'

I don't know if he is finally outgrowing acne, if his hormones are calming down, or could it be that your can get acne from over-washing?

What's even more odd is that I have always thought that my face did better when I leave it alone. Want to know a secret? I don't ever wash my makeup off. *Gasp* Nope - I wash it in the morning, but not at night. And believe it or not, it works for me!

So, after two years and many, many, cleansers, toners, and other treatments, the battle has been won!

People Will Buy It!

People will buy anything... what are you selling?

I'm constantly wowed by the commercials I see and that these products actually sell. I remember when I saw the snuggie and thought, 'who would buy that - it's a blanket?' But guess what? A friend bought one. Then I saw it, and now I want one too! (Nah, I'll live without.)

Then, a few weeks ago I saw the commercial for the Shake Weight... oh, my! I had to hit record on the DVR just to show it to my hubby because I knew he wouldn't believe me. If you've not seen this clip from Ellen, and need a good laugh, take a couple minutes and enjoy:

Now, I don't think I could even use it because I'd be laughing too hard to get my workout in.

Just goes to show. Build it, and they will come. Whether it's a perverted weight system, a blackhead extractor, or a Shoe Organizing Bed Skirt, (yes, it's real!) someone wants that idea you have.

Jalapeno Poppers Recipe While I'm Trying To Lose Weight

I just found this O-So-Yummy looking recipe for Sausage Jalapeno Poppers over at Mommies Angels and thought I'd pass the link along for my readers to make at your Super Bowl parties.

It sounds like the perfect football watching food - simple and with only 4 ingredients, ground sausage, cream cheese, jalapeno chile peppers and bacon. And we all know, ANYTHING with bacon is good!!

Not in to the Super Bowl? Well, why not get your girlfriends together for wine and poppers? They may not be low-cal... but they are low carb! You can say you're doing Atkins this day. Or, you could just take the day off from your diet. Or, you could take your alli diet pill. I've seen the commercials for it, but don't know if it works - anyone tried it?

Which reminds me to tell you that I'm trying to drop a few pounds the old fashioned way. Working out and eating right. Imagine that! Novel idea, huh?

I stuck to the Turbulence Training program last week, (just the workouts, not the diet - though I ate healthy) and lost three pounds. Not a lot if you have a lot to lose, but I'm only aiming for 15 pounds, so not too bad.

Speaking of which... I better go do today's workout and quit dreaming about the Jalapeno Poppers - but watch out Poppers - I'm going to devour you in two weeks!

How We Know It's Spring In Kentucky

While in most parts of the world people are looking for signs of spring such as flowers, birds, frogs, and rain, here in Kentucky there is only one sign to let us know it is spring.

The Kentucky Derby!

If you are not from Kentucky, you probably can't understand. The Kentucky Derby is not just a three minute race. It's almost two weeks worth of events. When I used to have an office job this was our motto:

It all starts with Thunder Over Louisville which is not just a spectacular (around 30 minutes set to music) fireworks show, but during the day there is an air show. (Which I could do without, but hubby loves!) There are food vendors and nearly half a million people to watch. If the weather is decent, it's the place to be!

After Thunder there is something almost every day. A Hot Air Balloon Race, A Steamboat Race, Run For The Rose', Bed Races, A Marathon, A Spelling Bee, A Basketball Tournament, A Pro-Am Golf Tournament, and more!

Then it all culminates with the horse race, which if you go is another event in itself. At the race you'll not only find people in equestrian apparel but more importantly it's all about dressing well and wearing a big 'ol hat! Well, that is unless you're in the infield... then it's just about the party!

The One About When We Got Engaged

I was thinking how I'd love a new camera, preferably a Canon DSLR, which got me to thinking that our 23rd wedding anniversary is coming up in a couple months, which led me to reminisce about our engagement and wedding. (That coupled with all the wedding shows I've become addicted to.)

It's funny, I was younger than my son is now when hubby and I got engaged; and yet I still think of him as a little kid. I guess I really was too, I just didn't realize it.

Here's how naive we were. My then boyfriend, now husband, took me out to dinner at Tumbleweed to propose to me! He thought, at the time, that it was quite fancy. Now he looks back and can't believe he thought that, (neither can I) but that's how sweet and innocent we were. I often wonder what the waitress thought about it! Was she saying, 'Oh, please... this will never last!' in her mind?

And then I wonder if he were to do it all over again, how would he do it? Knowing what he knows now.

When we were in Cincinnati a few weeks ago there was an outdoor skating rink that the teenagers in our group went to. While they were there someone got down on his knee, in the middle of the rink, and proposed. The girls thought it was so dreamy. But, my friend's son thought it was tacky. He thinks an engagement should be a private thing, not one you do in a such a public setting.

I tend to agree. If done over again, I don't think I'd want a huge show with a horse drawn carriage or on the signage at a ballgame. Just something private. Maybe on the beach, or on a cruise, or while taking a walk in the woods.

Whatever the situation, I'd still marry him all over again. He's one of the few people that can put up with me! lol!

My Husbands New iPhone - A Lesson In Patience

Let me start by saying that I was never a fan of the iPod... I swore that they were nothing more than a glorified MP3 player. (Famous last words) That was until my son bought himself an iPod Touch.

I was so impressed because if there was a Wi-Fi signal, it basically becomes a little laptop in your pocket. My husband then decided he had to get one too. He felt left out when my son and I where on our laptops so now he could have his own source for getting onto the information highway.

Well, that lead to the question, "if I get an iPhone, does that mean I can get the Internet anywhere there is a cell signal?" So, we showed him the 3G map (although, you can actually get Internet in more places than that. It also works on the Edge network which is almost anywhere there is a cell signal, it's a little slower, but still great for email and websurfing.) and when he was up for phone upgrade a few weeks ago he got himself an iPhone.

He loves his new toy! He carries it around like a baby. He even went to the flea market just to get him some iphone accessories and came home with a clip-on leather case and a clear case. And, I was thrilled because I inherited his iPod Touch.

Thrilled that was... until the questions started.

Now you have to understand, my husband loves electronics but is slightly technically challenged. He can do it, if you show him once. But, unlike me, he's not adventurous enough to just start clicking on things until he figures it out.

So, even though I don't have an iPhone, guess who's the one who gets to learn how to use it?

I've put pictures and music and apps on it. I showed him how to bookmark his favorite sites. I added a podcast, learned how to make ringtones and add them, and generally know just about everything there is to know about an iPhone, without even owning one!

I will say, he's getting better. He won't be adding music anytime soon, but he can at least receive and send emails and look at the weather radar without having to call me for help! Maybe in a year from now, about the time he's ready for another upgrade, he'll have it all figured out. Bless his heart!

At least he's happy!

Note added @ 10:44 PM on 1/12/10 (later the same night I posted this originally): Tonight's question was about email. I had to set up a new email for him so he could use it on his iPhone. Then we had to do many, many emails to see if it worked and if he knew how to do it. Shesh! I'm tired now!

Yikes! $70 For A Calendar?

Well, have I learned a lesson the hard way! Last January I found a calendar on clearance at Meijer's and fell in love with it. It hung in my kitchen for the remainder of 2009. It was called Wine Country and featured artwork of country scenes of everyday life in the vineyard by Susan Winget.

The artwork style and colors went perfectly with my home. So perfectly that I hoped to find something similar for this year. And, I did. There is a 2010 Wine Country calendar! Too bad they are all sold out. Apparently, I'm not the only one who either loves wine or Susan's artwork.

Oh, I'm sorry. I did find one for sale. It's selling for a mere $68.28 at Amazon.com. Nope. I think I'll just go with horses or Futurama or the proverbial cat calendar for $15 instead... and next year I'll purchase my calendar in October!

Could An Online Degree Be Your Answer To A Better Paying Job?

It seems like everyday I hear someone say, "I just lost my job," or "my hours were cut way back," or "my pay was cut." It's a sign of the economic times we are living in.

Take it from someone who has looked for a job, what you find on Craigslist.org isn't going to normally pay you what you want or what you are worth. However, if you have a degree, you may find it a little easier to find the job you want at the price you to make.

The benefits of getting your degree from an online university are many. The amount of flexibility is something that makes them really attractive. You can work your classes around family, a current job and other obligations you may have.

There are also many different courses to choose from. You may immediately think of degrees like accounting or business, but would you be surprised to know that you can also get an online nursing degree, a degree in criminal justice or even a teaching degree?

If you're worried about the price, online degrees are generally more affordable than going to a campus class. And, fortunately, the same financial help is available for online classes including grants, scholarships and loans.

I'm In Love With Bath & Body's Body Scrub & Room Sprays

I went to Bath & Body Works a few days ago, and my intent was not to buy anything. Yeah, right! That didn't quite work.

First I decided that I would like a room spray, and they were only $5, so no biggie. I fell in love with the Spiced Cider scent. Oh my! If you like the smell of apples and spices, this one is incredible! It reminds me of the shops in Gatlinburg and I can't get enough of it. It's to the point that my son is begging me to quit sprayngi it saying he can't breathe I've got it so strong. Whatever. It makes me happy.

Then I saw something I hadn't remembered them having before. Body scrubs in the Signature Collection scents. They didn't have any testers so one of the Customer Service Reps opened one for me to try. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it and so had to purchase it too!

I love body scrubs anyway, the combination of exfoliating mixed with the oils feels so good on dry winter skin. And, this body scrub is nice because it lathers a little. Something my other scrubs don't do. And, I found it in my favorite scent, Japanese Cherry Blossom. Since I already have the body wash, body creme, lotion, and Eau de Toilette in this scent, it only made sense to get the matching scrub. Hopefully, I won't knock anyone down with my aroma.

We'll be spending the weekend out of town with friends and us girls are going to see if we can find some great after Christmas sales. Hopefully we won't be going near a Bath & Body Works because I know what will happen if I step inside...

The Wedding Planner -- My New Dream Job

I've been married for almost 22 years, and have no intention of re-marrying. I don't have a daughter and my sister is still quite a few years from marriage. But lately, for some strange reason, I've fallen in love with wedding programs.

Much to my hubby's chagrin, you can find Amazing Wedding Cakes, My Fair Wedding, and Say Yes To The Dress, on my DVR. And, I will sit and watch one after another.

It's to the point that I now have decided I want to start, or work for a wedding business. I believe I can make incredible wedding cakes -- even though I've never done it before! Or, I could possibly find you the perfect wedding dress, or maybe even plan your entire wedding from the wedding invitations right down to perfect signature drink for your reception.

OK, truth-be-told, I don't have the time right now to learn how to make the perfect fondant... maybe I'll just start a wedding blog instead. I really need another blog. *sarcasm*
