Angus Topshee representing Maritime Forces Pacific will be among several municipal, provincial, and federal officials as well as members of the public who will place candles on the gravesites in the 143-year old cemetery. The Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific and the Canadian Scottish Regimental Association Pipe Band will lead the marching contingent and flag party. <br /> <br /> The Victoria Children’s Choir directed by Madeleine Humer will perform with the Naden Band. Representatives from veterans’ organizations and Cadets, Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts, as well as members of the public will place over 2,400 candles on the graves in the historic cemetery. The display of light provides an ambience perfect for reflection and remembrance.<br /> <br /> Long before the Europeans came to what is today Esquimalt, the first sailors were the people of the Coast Salish Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. Ships representing the King of Spain explored Esquimalt as early as 1774. British influence arrived in 1778. The first survey of Esquimalt Harbour was completed in 1846 and the Royal Navy moved its Pacific Station from Valparaiso, Chile to Esquimalt in 1865. The military barracks was built at Work Point in 1887 to house C Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery and a detachment of the Royal Artillery. The British forces departed in 1906 and the Canadian Naval Service was established in 1910. Two years later the Township of Esquimalt was incorporated on Sept. 1 1912. <br /> <br /> The Veteran’s Cemetery was consecrated on July 14, 1868 and was established by the Royal Navy to replace the cemetery on Brothers Island at the mouth of Esquimalt Harbour. The chapel houses several Royal Navy artefacts. The property was expanded in 1901 to accommodate soldiers of the Royal Artillery. In 1947, the Department of Veterans Affairs took over the 1.1 hectare cemetery that is located between the 12th and 17th holes of the Gorge Vale Golf Club. Over 100 kilometers in distance and heading directly up the Trans-Canada Highway; this epic adventure will be run in support of the Help Fill A Dream Foundation to raise awareness and funds for the organization.<br /> <br /> Peterson is no stranger to ultra-distance running; he participated in the Gobi March in 2007, ran the 24 Hour Relay solo in 2008 and completed the Coastal Challenge in 2009. He has also participated in numerous ultra-marathons.<br /> <br /> Smith and Peterson are being supported in this endeavor by two key local sponsors. Their race kit, all their running supplies and the barbeque at the finish line are very generously being supplied by <strong>Country Grocer</strong>. <strong>CrossFit Nanaimo</strong> will be on board at the finish line to help out and will be running CrossFit Workouts (WODS) for donations to HFAD.<br /> <br /> "We are very proud to support Erin and Donald’s fund raising events and know that they will do all that they can to raise money and awareness for The Help Fill A Dream Foundation. Sawyer is both a consultant and an Emmy® award winning producer and content creator. He will be in Victoria on Wednesday June 6th to deliver a workshop about convergent media and how to access the business opportunities that interactive and cross-platform media creates. During the three hour session Sawyer will establish a common baseline understanding of interactive and cross-platform concepts amongst the participants, discuss broadcast-related funding mechanisms for interactive content, and examine emerging trends in cross-platform development and transmedia concepts.<br /> <br /> Understanding media consumers is key to success. Sawyer will discuss what it takes to engage an audience – and discuss why an engaging personalized experience is theft proof and can be very rewarding. Social media is often a key element in successful audience engagement and we’ll discuss how that comes into play including new so-called second-screen experiences.<br /> <br /> The key ingredients of successful cross-platform projects – and the potential pitfalls – will be discussed. And while cross-platform development brings many new opportunities with it, there are new challenges too that need to be considered. Funding for interactive projects is limited and funds like Bell Fund and IPF Web Series program receive far more worthy applications than they can possibly fund so the characteristics of a successful application will be discussed.<br /> <br /> We’ll also look at some of the advanced forms of interactive content including augmented reality (AR), alternative reality games (ARGs) and 3D. We’ll examine participatory audience experiences including audience content creation, sharing and collaboration (with each other and with you). And we’ll take a look at properties that don’t have a broadcast component and discuss the unique opportunities and challenges of these and look at the Independent Production Fund’s Web Drama Series pilot program. <br /> <br /> Finally we'll examine new distribution models and the opportunities and challenges for Canadian content producers in the 21st-century “global village”. Chris Donnelly, Dan Fortin, and Ernesto Cervini had never played together until a few substitutions and a twist of fate put them on stage together for the first time in late 2010. Since then, the trio has been making music in every jazz club in the Greater Toronto Area.<br /> <br /> The band is a true collective. Each member acts simultaneously as a leader and a sideman. They play mostly original music that features different aspects of jazz improvisation, ensemble playing and contemporary composition. Formerly holding the position of Women's Head Coach for Alberta, Robert made his move to British Columbia and continued to develop his coaching skills. No stranger to accolades, Robert was named the PGA of BC Teacher of the Year in 2009 as well as being named the inaugural PGA of BC Coach of the Year in 2011.
