So, I have internet access at the moment. I want to catch up as much as possible. I hate having iffy internet connection. I would love to have a laptop with wifi. That way no matter where I am, I can do my blogs and participate. But Now I am doing job searching so I will slowly but surely save up for a notebook w/built-in internet. Anyway, I don't like disappearing and I don't like not keeping up with my blogs so I will do my best not to. You all should be seeing more of me again.

What is the first book you remember reading? What is it about the first book that made you really love reading?

I don't remember the first book I read but I do remember reading The Bearstein Bears, Nancy Drew, The Tale of Peter Rabbit series and more. I remember when I was younger that I love that the books went into more detail and when reading a book, it turns into a movie in my head. I have loved books since I can remember. If I could get paid to read, that would be a dream come true!

Sunday Salon 8/8/10

Well, it's been a slow reading week(s) for me since my daughter, hubby and I are staying with friends to be of help so I only brought a few with me thinking that would last me a few weeks. Two out of the three I brought with me were library books and the other a book for review. But then I was so busy I didn't have time to read! I Know! So then I had to return the two books and re-request them. I made sure to devote an hour every night before I went to bed to read So I have about a week or so more to go then I'll be done. That's if I read a minimum of five pages a day. So easy! lol. Then to continue drafting my review for I Will Not Be Silent by April Maley and start my review for Vexation by Elicia Clegg.
On another note, I recently requested/added My Life In France by Julia Child with Alex Prud'homme, Mastering The Art Of French Cooking (Volume two) by Julia Child and Simone Beck, As always, Julia: Letters between Julia Child & Avis Devoto: food, friendship & the making of a masterpiece selected and edited by Joan Reardon, The French Chef Cookbook by Paul Child, Mastering The Art Of French Cooking (Volume one) by Julia Child, Louisette Bertholle & Simone Beck, Julie & Julia: 365 days, 524 recipes, 1 tiny apartment kitchen: how one girl risked her marriage, her job & her sanity to master the art of living by Julie Powell.
Notice something? Yea I'm on a bit of a Julia Child kick.
This is because my mother mentioned that since I love to cook and I'm not half bad at it I might want to try watching Julia Child on PBS. Sure! Why not! I LOVE cooking shows. I have my favs and the ones where I just do not like the person. I love Julia Child. She is funny. I asked my mother is she had any cookbooks by her and she gave me the answer I was not expecting; "no sorry honey...ask your aunt...." :( Well, she has one but....anways, I went to kcls.org (online library) and looked for Julia Child's cookbook. I put pretty much every book there on the list on my request list. Then a couple of nights ago I watched Julie & Julia. I loved it, went and purchased it for a steal of a deal! So then of course my next mission was to find Julie Powell's blog. I found the one she blogs on now. But...after a little bit more research, I found her original one. I am loving it so far. My only question about her new one so far, what do you have against Rachael Ray? I didn't like her in the beginning but I realized that's because 'she's spunky & funny & cute'. But she has grown on me and I ended up buying three of her cookbooks a few years ago. My only complain with Rachael Ray is (I'm sorry hun, I love you, I think you are adorable) her recipes are expensive. When I first bought her 365 recipes cookbook ( where there is a different meal each day and a little box at th top so you can mark it off, say you like it or not) I was going to follow it and write a journal on it but it was too expensive for my wallet. Anyway, this is The Sunday Salon not "Elisha's Rambling's". So until next time,

Hey all! This will be a short blog, more like a note...letting those of you who read my blog know, I am still here! I have been staying with friends to help them out and they had issues with their computer so I couldn't get on. I know... I went a litttttle crazy lol. Anyway, now that the issue is fixed I am hoping I can get on a lot more and get back up to speed...get caught u with my posts, FINALLY put my review up for I Will Not Be Silent by April Maley...It's been bugging me soo much not being able to post my blogs, check out the other great blogs, not bing able to post my reviews...But it's OK now:) My review should be up within this week...that's my goal...
Anyway, I am back nd active as I love so pleas be patient and don't disappear on me please!

This weeks question of musings is...

What do you think of books that receive a lot of hype? (think of the "Twilight" saga, or "Harry Potter", or "The Da Vinci Code"). Do you read them? Why, or why not?

I wasn't into any of these books lol. Not my "cup of tea" Though my husband is a big fan of The Twilight Series. He read all the books and was soo excited when the first movie came out then he was disappointed when the movie skipped parts of/in the book . I was 'forced' to watch the first movie; it was good and I voluntarily watched the second. The hubby wants me to read the series so im not asking "a thousand questions" during the movie. I've added it to my TBR pile.

But weather a book (series or not) has a lot of hype, that isn't going to make me read it. Just like recommendations from people who don't know my reading taste. I'll look into it but it may not go further than that. I read a book a while back that had a lot of hype. I didn't see the big deal. So, alll in all, just because a book has a lot of hype doesn't mean I'll read it and get dragged into the hysteria.
I may read the book (series) after all the hysteria has died down, but it really all depends on the genera, the author, etc...
I should have a TBR for just books that have been hyped or drooled over..then get to it at some point lol

This week's question...

Do you read book reviews? Do you let them change your mind about reading/not reading a particular book?

My Answer:

I do read reviews. I enjoy reading them. Sometimes they make me want to read the book even more. And when the review(s) aren't the greatest, I want to read the book to find out exactly why that book wasn't great but I keep an open mind and half the time I have read a book after it has gotten a bad review, I have really enjoyed the book. The other times; the book wasn't terribly bad but it could have had a little bit more work done to it. So no, a bad review does not stop me from reading a book. I like to get my own opinion of a book, not use someone's opinion as my own, because then I can tell personally what I did and didn't like about that particular book.

I just started Vexation by Elicia Clegg for review. Just started this last night. We'll see how it goes, I'm excited about it...:)

I recently finished 1st To Die by James Patterson...almost a week ago?
Very good. Now that I have read this one, some of the past references, names and stories make sense :)

I also just finished I Will Not Be Silent by April Maley. I am currently working on my review but it will be up soon :)

(My apologies for the 'look inside!') I am going to read Living With Evolution Or Dying Without It: A Guide To Understanding Humanity's Past, Present, And Future by K.D. Koratsky next for review.

This weeks question: Name your top 2-3 favorite genres (the ones you read most from)

My answer...

That's easy for me! Thriller/Suspense, murder mystery and memoirs/ non-fiction stories (ex: Ann Frank Diary). I am very open to reading all sorts of things and expanding horizons but those are my absolute favs! And also reading those genres from different generations... like taking a break from reading James Patterson ( I know it's crazy ; ) and reading some Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys instead.

On another note...I have a few different reasons as to why I enjoy reading memoirs/ diary's/non-fiction: You never know how the book is going to turn out. You can't try to get under the authors pen and try to guess what he/she is going to write. You may have an idea (and it may be a very good one and it may be right) but you don't know because you weren't there. It makes me want to read faster so I can find out what happens. There have been a few times when I read a memoir and I wish I were there to help them, give them a shoulder to cry on, give them that strength, cheer them on or knock some sense into them ( verbally) !! At times you want to yell at them "what are you doing you nut!!!???" And at times I have gotten the strangest look from my husband when I am laying in bed next to him (one of my fav reading spot :) and I say "you have got to be kidding me?! No!"........OK I am done with my ramblings....

Happy Fathers Day to all you great dad's out there! As Well as the Grandfathers out there! We are blessed to have you in our lives to go fishing, camping, hiking, teach us how to throw a decent punch and playing frisbee in the backyard. Thank you for all the great memories and life lessons m:) I look forward to the years to come.

This week I finished 1st To Die by James Patterson. I don't know if there is even a point in making a personal review for this book because he is so well-known and popular. But we'll see...

I've started reading I Will Not Be Silent by April Maley for review...Quick read but good Lord... very sad...more on that later.

I also need to start reading Women's Anatomy of Arousal by Sheri Winston for review. It'll be an interesting read and a learning experience (lol) to say the lease.

I am also reading Vexation by Elicia Clegg for review.

I am only reading one book at a time though because even though I can read three or four books at time, it obviously takes me longer. But I should be able to finish reading I Will Not Be Silent by Friday and that's giving myself wiggle room. But I am going to be putting a lot of though I think into the review because it is a more serious book since it is a memoir about her childhood and how it affected her and still affects her to this day.

1. I got woken up at 6:58 am.
2. It was the reason, of course, why I am on my fourth cup of coffee at two in the afternoon.
3. Putting a cup full of sugar on top of my oatmeal is something I no longer feel the need to do.
4. I have another errand to run, then on to reading my book.
5. I want to just think about where my camera is. Than I think...just go find it
6. What were once vices...are still that: vices.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to snuggling up to my hubby and watching a movie , tomorrow my plans include doing the laundry, finishing my book and Sunday, I want to stay in bed all day!!

I would love to have this book! Why? First of all, The cover is very intriguing and captures your eyes...I mean look at it...you know you wish it were you and your guy (lol right?). And, looking at the cover, you think, I wish that were me and so and so, then you read the description...

13 Things I need to be doing today:

1. Laundry
2. Vacuum
3. Dusting
4. Wash the windows (their weekly wash)
5. Finish reading 1st To Die by James Patterson
6. Start reading I Will Not Be Silent by April Maley for review
7.Start reading Women's Anatomy of Arousal by Sheri Winston (CNM, RN, BSN, LMT) for review
8. Write out grocery list for next weeks meals
9. Go to the grocery store and buy groceries for next weeks meals (lol, yes it counts as two for me at least..one thing to write them...another thing to actually go and get them lol.)
10. Give my daughter Abigail a bath
11. Vacuum out Abbie's car seat (can't stand to leave it a mess)
12. Go through our stuff and downsize before we move
13. Take what we don't want but is still usable down to Value Village or Salvation Army or something
...there is more but I am sticking to the number!

Here is my answer:

All three. As long as I find it a good read, I will read it. I enjoy books by, Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Nicholas Sparks, Steven James, Randy Singer, etc.. but I also love love the classic authors like Jane Austen.
