I lie here in bed having just texted you; you’re pulling an all-night-er and I gave you the passive aggressive suggestion to sleep for some reason or another. Now you’re probably studying, but I’m lying here being convinced I’ve said the wrong thing.
You’ve told me time and again that saying the wrong thing is nothing to worry about, but it can haunt me nonetheless. I think it’s a problem of mine because I genuinely care what you think of me.
Usually when I text someone something to that effect I care very little what their perceived notion of me is; but with you I find myself constantly worried. There’s evidence to support my elevated feelings for you, I still remember the jacket I was looking at in H&M when you texted my friend asking about me. I was delighted that you’d done the same as me.
Being too nervous to do so physically, I texted my friend about you as soon as you walked into the room (a common room in a residence hall). You were with you friend visiting from I don’t remember where, and I was visiting my friend. So imagine my delight when you text this same friend two days later with similar intentions.
I don’t know where this letter is going, perhaps it was the sudden flood of that memory when I picked up that jacket moments ago, or knowing that writing is a way to prevent my introverted mind from playing with notions all night.
Regardless, whether you ever read this or not, I hope you know I sincerely know you’ll do great on your finals. You’re one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.
