There is so much in life that one cannot in a lifetime accomplish everything. As years come by, not getting younger, we tend to look back and accesses where life has lead us. There’s a lot of measure when it comes to success, success is a relative achievement that ultimately depends on every individual, his visions and goals in life. My three decades in the surface of the earth has brought me into where I am today, have I achieved much in my life? Living in simplicity is the one I envisioned, have a fulfilling and enjoyable job and probably my own family someday. All these are something that I savor today (except the own family thing), I have my mom and siblings and I couldn’t really ask for more. In the journey for the next decade I hope to achieve new things academically and to whatever new opportunities that may come ahead of me, I am prepared to accept the challenge. To my family and friends thank you for everything. To my God and only Savior, to You I offer this life, in You I trust everything and I can’t thank you more for the guidance and strength You have given me all these years. To God be the glory. An ordinary government employee got fired for not declaring all the properties she owned in her SALN (Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth). The impeachment case against the chief justice is a totally similar case where the supreme court itself upheld the decision to remove the employee from government service. The way how the trial is going, it is the stand of the defense that such error can be easily corrected anytime but by visiting the decision of the high court it did not allow the same kind of reasoning for the that ordinary employee. The purpose of SALN is to check if a government employee has acquired unexplainable weath while he/she is in government service and if we admit the argument of allowing corrections after the submissions it denies the purpose of such filings that shall be done with atmost honesty and accuracy. Everytime government employees caught withholding details from their SALN, they will simply invoke that rule of being allowed to make corrections totally defeating the very idea of the SALN.

Students come and go but the memories last forever.

I remember having that as my FB status and had so many likes from my former students and friends. Being an educator is an exciting profession, every start of a new academic year you come to face to face with new people that will eventually be part of your daily life for about 4 years and probably more for some. At the end of a the year you will then see the seniors take the stage and receive their hard earned diplomas, they'll soon join the real world if some would call it and face the real challenges in life. As the moments arrive, you are always feeling a mixed emotion, the feeling of being happy and proud with a bit of sadness as well.

Happy and Proud

After 4 years in college many of your students will graduate, find work and use the knowledge you taught them, maybe not all but surely some of it. You feel excited and full of pride when they get hired in a job.

Sadness

Overtime you develop a student-teacher relationship with most of them. That involves friendship, sometimes as a counselor and it’s sad to see them go.

In the end

As a teacher the fulfillment is not felt after their graduation but rather it is when one day you will see them at top looking back at you with a smile. Peace!

To quote one writer in her opinion she said:

"To assert that these are racist statements is to fail at understanding that racism is about asserting one race’s superiority over another."

Racism is taken seriously in some other countries, recently in the UK a man was arrested for posting on his twitter account considered to be a racist comment after a football player collapse while playing in the pitch and to quote:

"LOL [Laugh out loud]. **** Muamba. He’s dead!!! #haha."

Nothing in the statement mentions about the color of one's skin not even an assertion of superiority.

Different online resources provide these definition about racism.

When one news anchor in a local TV show said, "Nagpapanggap lang kayong mga kayumanggi.." ("You are just pretending to be brown-skinned"), plain and simple it is a racist comment. Peace!

The academic year 2011-2012 is almost over with only a few weeks left things are getting exciting in a way. The group I mentor which we call USLS Mobile Apps Development Group has it shares of recognition already at its young stage. During the Global Android Dev Camp 2012 in Bacolod their game application was given recognition as one of the promising apps created during the event, as their mentor I am very happy to see them work hard and achieve something to boast their interest in mobile application development. Still have a lot of work to do, we are just starting and we target a lot of things for the coming months. Windows phone 7 is one of them and hopefully IOS, for now Android is the focus.

Always been a vocal person, I am the one who can't simply agree on everything other people would say. I value others opinion, more their authority, but it doesn't mean I'm letting go of the things I believe in or my own opinion. Most of the time I just wanted to be heard and then I'm good, expressing my opinion is important to me. At work the same is done and its all about work, if somebody takes it as an attack at them the problem is upon them not on me. In my years of being a professional I never did something like attacking anyone personally about work, for me everything is all about work and a question about work is about work and not you... peace!

Had an inquiry about which is better Ipad or Galaxy Tab from a friend of mine. I would always suggest that you need first to understand what are your needs and purpose of getting a tablet. For example, you want a Facebook apps, read news, send email or put simply productivity stuff both of them can deliver. Where will the difference be, if you intend to use your tablet for some presentation like in a projector Ipad is more likable, not saying that Galaxy tab don't have one for that. There's an Apple Video cable adapter easily mounting your Ipad to the VGA port of the projector while Samsung Galaxy Tab have a TV out cable through RGB ports... Peace!

Just came back from a 4 days tour in Manila with our IT and CS students, was able to get another sbux city mug this time from Tagaytay. Good thing that the students enjoyed their trip and was able to visit some IT firms and got some idea what awaits them after they graduate later on. After a week, the 2nd half of the school year starts, I was told that it will be an all Android app development classes for me. I'm a bit excited for this one and hope to share a lot of things to my students... for now.. peace!

Last day of final examination tomorrow for me and 1st half of the school year comes to a close. Will be in Manila for the educational trip with some students and hopefully it will be a fun trip. June! Time is really running so fast these days, school starts next week. Last month I was fortunate to attend a week long training on android sponsored by SMART telecom in CIT Cebu. It was a great experience and new things learned, also nice to see and bond with my old students Chaztine and Herian in Ayala. Tried Gelatissimo for the first time and it was good, I'm really dying to try the affogato-style but was not able to, hope to do that when I'll have a chance next time. Till next time, peace!

There's a new traffic lights being installed right exit of Robinsons Place Bacolod, this is a good news to ease up the traffic in that area, it is but important to consider that there are areas that also need traffic lights. Just this afternoon while waiting for a friend in a hamburger joint near Lacson street, I saw these 4 girls with a puppy. They're like passing it around, taking pictures like a toy, I just don't know how stressful it feels like for the puppy to be handled like a stuffed toy. Owners should be more responsible, more than its cuteness, it has feelings too. Got a new Starbucks mugs from Taiwan through a friend of mine. Peace!

When the football national team known as the Azkals reached the AFF 2010 Suzuki Cup semi-finals the nation suddenly woke up from its deep sleep and started the hype of bringing back the game of football to the mainstream. When the nationals played the home game against Mongolia for the AFC Challenge Cup 2012 qualifier, again the nation showed its outpouring support. Today, everyone is so excited for the 2014 World Cup qualifier game against Sri Lanka with the hopes that we get through the 2nd round of the competition and hopefully, yes, with so much faith, that hopefully we will be there in Brazil for the world cup and get to score our 1st ever world cup goal.

But we have a challenge right in front of us. Everyday I open up a newspaper and on to the sports section, not a single news is written about football, I open my television and found no show telling me the latest about my favorite sport and sadly even on the radio there is nothing. This is a basketball nation, we must admit and media coverage is great, from the PBA, NBA, UAAP and even the tournament from a small barangay. If you are in Europe and Latin America or just even in our neighboring countries like Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia news about football is everywhere, FA Cup, Premier League, La Liga and so many other leagues within the region. If we want football to be known and followed, encourage the young to participate or simply have the interest and successfully have a grassroots development, we must put football in our news first, just like how we give importance to basketball, surely we can revive football from its current state. The media will play a vital role in our dream of having that 1st goal in the world cup, if we don't we will be forever cheering for the Azkals, just the them. Peace!

coffee talk: English Cafe

I'm a coffee lover no doubt, not an expert when it comes to taste but I know my coffee when it's a good one. Here in my school, there's a newly opened cafe managed by the university, it is called English Cafe. The name English Cafe has nothing to do with english coffee or England coffee variants but was given to promote english as a language. The cafe was built beside the USLS - Language Center, according to the USLS website.

The English Café, designed by Arch. Glenn de Guzman, is a two-storey coffee shop which aims to provide students especially those enrolled in the English for Global Communications (EGC) program, faculty and staff, a place where they can bond together while using the English language during conversations.

I tried their espresso and find it good, it has the kick I'm looking in my cup. Though I'm not really impressed with the tainted window glass. What's the thing about tainted windows then? You see, when you are having your dose of that highly valued hot black liqiud, you will also feel like observing how time passes by before you, if you know what I really mean with that. In most of the cafes if not all, you will observe that they have this wide clear windows, it adds light to the place, invites customers and creates a relaxing environment. But yeah, the next time you are inside the campus, don't forget to drop by English Cafe, nice tasting coffee. Peace!...

I am on a mission, walking by the shoreline, in the pearl white sand of Boracay, ok not that white but still clean white, appreciating the beauty of the beach, the comforting sound of the waves and understandably the sexy ladies in their bikinis and there it was waving along the wind the green vertical flag with the words STARBUCKS and smile covered my face, delaying gratification I slowly walked toward the door slightly glancing at the window with a big question in my mind, do they have it? and to my delight, yeah, it's the Starbucks city mug Boracay. Mission Accomplished.

The world is changing, many things happen with a reason. When we take something from nature, surely nature will also take something from us, we abuse nature, nature will be abusive too. We must start to rethink in all of our actions, you will never know who is next. What is certain is the 2nd leg of the AFC Challenge Cup qualifier between the Philippines and Mongolia, it will happen on the 15th of this month around 12pm our time.
