What Not To Wear - Houston Pride Parade Edition

Setting the tone for the Houston Pride Parade, this young lady (?) in a wig opens her 40 ouncer by jamming it against a fence. I'm not sure if that's Diana Ross, or Dion.

Houston's Pride Parade was Saturday night. I'll get to pictures of the actual parade in a later post. For now, however, we will focus on the pre-parade. See, the pre-parade happens before the parade, and it consists simply of people coming to view the parade. Each year, we pay an increasingly exorbitant amount of money for VIP bleacher seats. We get drinks included, and have fancy air conditioned port-o-jons that we don't have to share with the general population. Elitist? Sure. But after reviewing these photos, I hope you will understand.

See... they moved the VIP section to a new location. And further back from the parade route. This left room for people to walk in front of us as we awaited the real parade. Here are the resulting photos.

Very festive. The spandex pants make the outfit. Or maybe the pink shirt. Or the bra made out of pride beads. It's too much to take in all at once.

The shirtless specimen in the front saw me and flashed the peace sign. How peaceful! The sailor behind him didn't see me, though. You can almost see his seaman.

Denim is totally back. But you have to add a red bow to your hair, like Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island.

Did he braid his hair to match the socks, or vice versa? I'm not sure. But that chick's bow in the back screams "pull me and run!"

This purple beauty made it into the VIP seats. She brought her own mug for the free drinks.

There was a new fashion trend in Houston - it's called just wear your underwear out and forget it.

Is this that chick from the Twilight movies?

This is a different chick. It's hard to tell from a distance...

But up close the mohawk is clearly different. The make up matching the flowers glued to the temples are complete awesomeness.

These people dressed up a friend in duct tape and a gas mask and carried him to the parade. Um. Ok.

This was a "goth" couple, with two girls behind them making fun of their attire! I think those two girls should totally swap tops. The Come Out, Come Out shirt goes better with the floral print shorts. And the fupa area is not sufficiently covered by throwing some see through black mesh over it, y'all.

I'm always pleased when I see someone in head to toe orange. Orange you glad she came to the parade?

The girl in the halter top halted the mohawk dude to take a picture of him. Apparently she thought HE was dress oddly.

Shirtless with skin tight jeans and bold belts was a big trend this weekend.

I timed this beauty just right. The photo was actually of the person in front of her. Then I noticed her wardrobe malfunction and zoomed in for your viewing pleasure.

His shirt says "Boys Love Me." Hand made art is always in style!

Have you ever wondered what would happen when two girls with "free hugs" written on their bellies randomly run into each other on a sidewalk? Well, now you know! They bump bellies and hug! Lots of squealing with delight ensues.

Don't know what to wear? Cut off some jeans so the pockets show, grab a white t-shirt and a some construction tape and you are ready for the world! Actually, his tape says "no hate zone," which I like. But that doesn't excuse the shorts.

I'm confused. Who is Number 1 here??? Wait. Maybe I don't want to see Number 2.

Look! Shorty in the underwear is back. Together with this flip flopped beauty, they make a "10!" No. Really. They look like the number 10.

It's hard to get a good picture with Erwin around.

It's a little small, but Sam saw a big daddy at happy hour the other day.

These are photos Kirk and Barrett took in San Diego last week. I was jealous of their trip. They got to feel an earthquake! The picture of the webcam I took right here in Houston. You can see Kirk sticking his tongue out at me. They were at a place called Urban Mo's. Nice.

I'm back on the busy train at work as of today. Big ol' deadline looming on July 7th. So my fun-ness factor will be lacking for a few more weeks. I'm SO looking forward to my trip to DC in August!

My 20 year high school reunion is in less than two months. I have to lose a little weight before then.

Meant to post this some time ago. Roman on the beach in Galveston! And lots of oil way out there in the Gulf somewhere. Thankfully it all seems to be headed East. Until we get a big Hurricane, that is.

I guess they mean flash flood. Many of my friends will recognize this spot. It's where we normally rent our inner tubes to go floating down the Guadalupe River in Central Texas in the summers. It's gone!

The party buses got picked up and slammed into trees!. I have ridden on a couple of these buses before.

Dang. 11 inches of rain in an hour creates problems.

So I got though my first week of baby makin' classes, only to discover I have to go again tonight and next Tuesday. It seems with each hurdle I make it over, they add another one. I will get there eventually, though!

Yesterday Blogger let me upload the pictures, but wouldn't let me comment on them. Tragic. So I will just fill you in now that the peeps on the floor giving mouth to mouth are Woody and Chris, who were in my baby makin' classes. I was SO happy they were in there with me, so I wouldn't be the lone homo. They are with a different agency than me, but we do some of the training together. The three in the dancefloor photo are Andrew, Dustin, and Chris. AKA Mess, Messy, and Messier. Then there's a photo of Quad driving me down the freeway. If I hadn't mentioned it before, Quad is pretty cool.

Baby Makin' Classes

Blog is on hold this week while I attend baby makin' classes. The certification classes are full time this week, so I'm super busy and tired! The classes are interesting. Fortunately, there's a gay couple I know in the class so I'm not a token. I was worried about that. It's an interesting mish mosh cross section of society in there. Some were already experts on the amount of money each foster child brings, and how much you get in tax breaks for fosters. It was kinda sad, but the ones who are there for the wrong reasons are easy to spot. There are lots of role playing games involved, so of course the only single dad prospect in the audience gets chosen a lot to act stuff out. Today I played a 15 year old problem foster child. It was fun, but also nerve wracking in front of a room of like 50 peeps. I'm not good with crowds, y'all! But I'm surviving.

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day Weekend! I did. Very relaxing.

This is an official legal contract I drew up between Barrett and his favorite bartender on his birthday. Watch for shirtless photos of Jared on July 24th!

Part of my Memorial Day was spent poolside. Here's Sam and Barrett at our "rented" pool on Saturday afternoon.

Helen had a relaxing weekend, too.

Here's Quad trying to decide what to eat at Luby's last week. We were on our way to Memorial Park to run, when the skies opened up in Houston. So we went to eat, instead. We did make it back to Memorial after the meal to work off the LuAnn Platters, though! I promise. We got caught in the rain again, though.

Robbie's kids did really well on their TAKS testing, so he followed up on a promise to get a mohawk. Nice, Robbie. Are you keeping this look for the summer? I'm so happy for all my teacher friends who now have the summer off. No. Really. I am happy for them.

Had a great time on Sunday. Started off with a Brunch for Live Consortium at La Griglia. Some dude paid for 150 peeps to have a really good free brunch, with bottomless mimosas and bellinis and wine. I wish I had that kinda moola!

After La Griglia fancyness, we opted to go a little trashy and headed to Berryhill. Here's Oscar giving his best trashy Berryhill face.

Kirk, Ruben, and Ruben's friend, who we just met, and I must sadly admit I can't remember his name. Nice guy, though.

Big Tall Joe is back in Houston from Atlanta!

The second to last stop of the day was at the Foundation Room at House of Blues. There's the guy who promotes this party (another name I'm bad at), Ray, Jonathan... and Little Billy rolling his eyes! How dare you, LB!

Very fun day. For those of you asking about the baby situation - my classes start on June 2nd. I assume I'll have my home visits and stuff sometime in June or July, and will hopefully get certified to adopt sometime this Summer. Then the wait begins for a match.

Speaking of babies, congrats to my friend Katie (Sallie's daughter) on becoming a big sis! Her dad had a little boy. It has to be exciting becoming an older sibling in your 20's!

These first photos come from EE's surprise birthday party last weekend. Everyone had to wear pink, and they had a free photo booth for everyone to use with little props. EE was told she was going to a party with Bon Jovi and Houston socialite Lynn Wyatt - hence their cardboard faces in these photos.

Russell sent this one in from Hotlanta. Cops in Starbucks are some of my favorite things.

Time to play catch up with junk you guys have been sending me. First, though, here's one I snapped of some guy playing with balls at the IKEA check out.

Next up is a submission from Anne, who found some octopus balls! Roasted, even! I'm not sure I would want to try these.

Garret made some balls of chocolate at culinary school. He says they are white chocolate with colored cocoa butter glaze. I want to eat them. Very impressive balls, Garret.

Last week I had Maggie and Monty sitting duty while Mike and Andrew jaunted off to San Antonio for Fiesta Texas. Here's Maggie one morning enjoying the sun.

Mikey submitted the above three photos from San Antonio. I've always heard good things about Fiesta Texas, but I've never made it over for that. I'm not a huge San Antonio fan.

The tanning place next door to Guava lamp used to have a leg tanner in their front window. It looked like a tanning bed for little people. But they replaced it with a full size model. And, folks, this is a real photo, of a real girl, buck nekid in the front window... just tanning away. They have shades that pull down, but I guess she had her back to the window and didn't notice they were open... or she just didn't care. Anyway. You've been blogged, tan all over girl.

To celebrate becoming an American, Roman, of course, went to Moscow!

I don't remember seeing anything this modern when I was in Moscow in the 80's. This must be new. Kinda cool. Looks like building blocks.
