The recycling programme helps us in getting rid of spoilt laptops, computers, gadgets, etc and even pays us for the remaining resale value. I don’t know what other recycling programme does that. It also provides the assurance that our data will be wiped out before being recycled.

Having sent in two different brands of laptops for repair, I must admit that I am rather surprised at the different ways the repairs are being handled. My experience with Asus and Lenovo has a vast difference. I’m not even sure where to begin.

Let me start off with Asus, I had to send in the laptop for repair as the screen showed only half of what it supposed to show. I had to travel to The Adelphi in order to send in for servicing as there isn’t a collection by the service centre itself.

For Lenovo, I had to call the service centre and wait for them to arrange a collection. They were supposed to give me a case number so that I would be able to collect it later. A call on Monday ended without any reply from them. Thus, I had to call on Tuesday to check. Apparently, my call didn’t seem to be registered with them since the pick up department or section didn’t even receive my request.

Therefore, I’m wondering if the guy even acknowledge the issues for the IdeaPad Y430 at all. Does that mean that the intermitant sounds and USB problem weren’t that major enough to warrant a service? Fortunately, the guy in charge of the pick up was very helpful and helped me arrange a pick up on Wednesday. I must say that I am rather shocked at the difference in the service attitude between two employees in the same company.

Although individuals have different temperaments, it would serve to know that they are working in the same company and representing the reputation and image of Lenovo. If one keeps one’s individual image of self instead of remembering that one is working for a company and representing the company’s image instead of self, one isn’t fit to work anywhere at all.

The PC Show is here again and I wasn’t really planning to attend it until someone pointed out that there is a free Lenovo S10 up for grabs when one subscribes to MaxOnline Express Plus. I only knew it on Thursday late afternoon and by then, 300 sets must have been given away. Thus, I decided to go on Friday.

A good move unless I wasn’t somewhere else in Tekong sending off the brother for his enlistment. It ended by noon but by the time I got to Suntec, the queue snaked out of hall 604. I circled the huge booth only to find out that it had spread out of the hall itself.

All for grabbing the Lenovo S10 only? Now I think Starhub should give out more netbooks since it’s an attractive offer. As a hubber, I only get a few perks but what if Starhub has a better way to retain my loyalty? Just give me a netbook just by being a hubber for more than 3 years, wouldn’t that be great?

Pet Society is one that I was having fun with until I discovered that coins are easier to earn if I have more than 100 friends playing it. That way, I don’t have enter the race in the stadium. So far, I have less than 50 friends playing Pet Society. I haven’t been actively adding friends just for this purpose. Although I did it for MouseHunt.

Eventually, I found another game, Be A Tycoon. It was fun until I realise that it’s tiresome when the charts are not that accurate in predicting the next change for positive or negative since humans are unpredictable. I soon neglected it in favour for Super Poke Pets. It is much more interactive than (fluff) Friends too.

I liked (fluff) Friends for a while since there were mini games to play until I got tired of clicking aimless hoping for rewards from playing the mini games. Meanwhile, I started playing with Geo Challenge, Word Challenge, Restaurant City and Bejewelled. Thus, in chronological order, the Facebook games that I started adding:

It’s high time I start to housekeep the Facebook applications.

It’s useful for file distribution, remote desktop support, desktop integration, deployment and all other features. Quite a powerhouse for this case. One feature I like is its ability to activate a programme that the students are supposed to be using instead of surfing the net. Blocking all Internet access with just one click is a useful tool since online games are too available.

Being someone who has been in the IT industry for some time, it is indeed useful to know the common websites that provide games so that it’s easily identified and make the students sit up and know that adults do know something about games besides work and scolding them.

I would admit that NetSupport will take some learning curve before the IT administrator can proceed to use it to its full capabilities. It is worth looking at since it has managed to make integration much easier than other platforms I have seen.

I do know that you can create clans once you have reached level 10. Each fight in the arena is rather random wins, I think. In addition, your statistics is also randomly assigned. Once you forget to set your password, you won’t be able to set it when you go in next time. So, set your password before you close the browser or move away from the page. You can only do it the first time.

The fights are animated, so you won’t need to do much clicking except fight or return to your cell after that. Some of the things you can gain from the arena are weapons, vitality and potions. Looks nice at this moment. My Brute certainly looks fun for me right now.

There is a daily tournament too. I wonder what are the prizes for winning though.

Now that you have discovered that everyone else is also doing the same to avoid over-paying for the calls, you can try Hoiio. Free registration. I like the fact that my overseas call will be reduced by 80% when using Hoiio. I like SMS to be at 8.8 cents per SMS when sent from overseas; flat rate. A whole lot better than 60 cents per SMS when in ASEAN and various rates from overseas.

What makes Hoiio stands out is that, when using it to call your friends, you can just dial from the call logs or phone book. Ever tried those call back cards where you have to call the service and key in the number from memory? Hoiio allows you to just dial from the phone book or call logs.

Even when there is a missed call, your friend can just dial the number and map it back to you. Other services just display “Private” or “Unknown” when you are using their call back services. Unfortunately for my case, I rarely call back unless I know the number. I had just too many cold calls to want to call back only to discover that I had to buy something.

This is a great service for those who often have more outgoing calls than incoming since it reduces your phone bills. I’m sure you signed up those mobile plans whereby your incoming local calls are free. You can even change the settings when you have downloaded Hoiio into your mobile such as using Hoiio to call whenever you are calling local or internationally.

What I discovered is that for Samsung Omnia, I would have to activate the programme before I can send SMS internationally at a flat rate since it doesn’t have an option “Send via”. For other mobile phones, I’m sure you would have the option.

This service has a free registration and there isn’t any monthly fees or contract of any kind. Something that is also different, call back cards have expiry dates after they have been activated, this one doesn’t seem to have any expiry. You have 5 ways to top up your credits: auto top up, online, SMS, friends to transfer credits or a post paid account.
