First time participant Alex Ramsey (40) from Ohio (USA) finishes the 29th Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendence 3100 Mile Race in 50 days 3 hours 53 minutes and 11 seconds and placed 4th. Alex has completed several of the world’s classic ultras like Badwater, Leadville, and The Spartathlon. Malta, Madeira, Thailand, Iceland, Vietnam, Nepal, Dubrovnik, Bintan, Bali … the list of destinations travelled by Kedar Misani is almost endless and covers almost every continent. Travelling is one of his hobbies, as is photography – an enthusiasm that he obviously inherited from his father as a teenager. Kedar’s many travel destinations have taken him to the most beautiful places with the richest motifs, so he has kept a ‘visual diary’ and brought together the most interesting impressions of his travels in this illustrated book. However, these are not organised chronologically, but rather by country and by type of motif. On the contrary, the pictures are better and more pleasingly organised than if the sequence were strictly chronological.

The illustrated book begins with 15 black and white photographs, almost all of which date from the early days of Kedar’s work. At the time, the photographer was particularly fond of black and white and the quality of the baryta prints, which led to him publishing the magazine ‘print letter’ for fine art photographers and picture galleries for eight years. After this, the travel phase of his life began, and with the advent of digital photography, colour found its way into Kedar’s visual diary.

Kedar has a special eye for detail, which he focusses on in most of his pictures. Often it is inconspicuous objects that the photographer wants to draw our attention to, then again it is atmospheric landscapes that have impressed him, or it is personal impressions from his many encounters with people. One person in particular has shaped Kedar’s attitude to life – and therefore also his photography: Sri Chinmoy. The spiritual teacher from India has become known worldwide for his teachings on meditation, inner peace and self-transcendence, and Kedar was fortunate enough to accompany Sri Chinmoy at his meditation events for around 40 years. He was thus able to benefit from his teachings, which he recorded in his book ‘My Life with Sri Chinmoy’. This life experience is also reflected in many of his pictures: they are very subtle images with a spiritual background in which Kedar expresses his feelings and sensations. They are considered and perfectly composed photographs which, in addition to their exciting and fascinating content, are also very balanced and precisely composed in formal terms.
