Here's some pictures of Christmas gifts that I'm giving to friends, family and the kids teachers, all thanks to my Silhouette Cameo. The 1st pics are of ornaments and the 2nd set of pics are magnets. If my son didn't have a dress code at his school, I'd sure sent him to school in this shirt!

I'm sure no one but my family ever reads this blog and quite that's a good possibility that even they don't read it. However, for what it's worth, I must speak my mind.

Why are there no "colored" rubber wristbands for dyslexia? Recently, I noticed there are now bracelets for Autism (and bless your heart if you have a child that suffers from autism- I mean NO disrespect at all!). BUT......statistically speaking dyslexia occurs in 1 out of every 5 children. Autism occurs in about 1 out of every 100 children. I'm sure those numbers have went down a lot, but not as low as 1 in 5! I could tell you WHY there's no colored rubber bracelet for dyslexia, BUT I'm going to be nice today (check back tomorrow though!).

And why is there a support group for EVERY dang thing imaginable, shopping too much, having sex too much, etc., but I have yet to hear of one for dyslexia. I take that back. There are other, larger communities that do have dyslexia support groups for parents, educators, etc to attend. However, anyone who has ever googled the word "dyslexia" would have surely noticed that if your child suffers from dyslexia, you might want to consider moving to the United Kingdom!

Organizing my life!

Here's just a few ways that I've made my life easier, especially in the mornings when I'm in a hurry.

I've been using the "over the door" shoe holders for years to store (hide!) things in my home. We have one in our computer/craft room that houses all of the cords/cables that have came with EVERY electronic device bought, the owners manuals for small and large appliances, computers, printers, etc. We also keep swimming goggles, cell phone cases/chargers and birthday candles stored in them.

I bought the over the door hanging organizer that I have hanging on my bathroom closet door, from Avon several years ago!! It holds all the overflow of products that won't fit in our HUGE bathroom closet.
Just recently, I decided we needed another one to hang on the back of the actual bathroom door. I believe that I purchased that one from Wal-Mart.

In my craft closet, I try to label all of my bins and boxes so that I know where to find things! It doesn't always work, but I try anyway! Lol!

My BEST secret organizing helper has to be, hands down, my blue jeans holder that's hidden behind my bedroom door! I LOVE IT!! I ordered it from Hammacher Schlemmer. They have the BEST ones out there on the market. Trust me, I've done my research on this one! I believe they carry it in two sizes. I think mine is the smaller size one. It cost around $60.00-70.00. There's NO WAY that I'd have EVER gotten all those jeans/capris in my closet! And it was super easy to put up on the wall!

My daughter bought me a men's tie rack from Bed, Bath and Beyond a couple of years ago. I painted it a nice bright white and now I use it for my necklaces. The only problem is that I need about 2 more of them!

My favorite "outdoor" organization product would have to be the nifty little buckets that I purchased for $1.00 each at The Dollar Tree. I used cable ties to attach them to the sides of our swimming pool at different places.
We use them to hold drinks, tanning oils, cell phones, small towel, etc.
Now there's no more having to get off your raft, climb out of the pool and walk over to the table or chair just to see who it was that just sent you a text or called you!

1st Silhouette Cameo project

Here's some pictures from my 1st real Cameo vinyl project(s). I finally sat down and figured it all out.
Well, not ALL of it, but I do know how to use the transfer paper now.

Isn't it funny how the lack of knowledge on how to do a simple task has prevented me from completing my project for months. And I belong to several cameo and related forums, support, tutorials, etc sites, so I could've very easily asked someone to help me. But I never did.

I know I'm not the only one who has done this.
You know who you are, you often have the "I'll figure this out myself" attitude and what could've and should've taken a few minutes has turned into 6 months.
Why do we not just ask for help? It's kind of like the how the man who is obviously lost, refuses to stop and ask for directions.
Anyway, thanks to a few videos on uTube, I finally figured out how to use the transfer tape. How embarrassing it is to see how simple and easy it is!

Lindamood-Bell continued

This is a follow-up post to my first Lindamood-Bell (LMB) post.  I recently had a request to provide more information on my son's response to LMB. I thought I would post it for others to view, just in case someone else may need it too.

As far as, how did my son feel about being uprooted from his normal day-to-day activities at 13 yrs. old and having to basically move almost 2 hours from home and attend what we referred to as 'another type of school'.
I believe that my son was so unhappy in his regular school surroundings, that he was more than happy to go to LMB.   We even did the intensive 6 hours/day, 5 days/week program.

He is a VERY resilient child and always has been. So much so, that at times I've been in such awe of him! I don't know where he gets that from! It sure didn't come from me! Lol!
He's an amazing kid and not just because he's 'my kid' either!

We went to Lindamood-Bell (LMB) in Oct. of his 6th grade year (he had also just turned 13 yrs old that Aug.), he was reading at about a 2nd grade reading level.   When we left LMB at the end of Nov., he was reading at a freshman college level!   I was SO PROUD (and still am) of him! He really worked his butt off.

LMB basically had to re-teach him how to read by using multi-sensory techniques.  That is the easiest way that I have found to explain to others whenever they ask me "what did LMB do for him?". He had to learn how to count out how many syllables a word has and know how to sound out those syllables, he had to learn about the words roots and what those meant,. He had to learn how to decode words.  And no, I had no idea what "decode" even meant before we went to LMB.

Today, at age 15 and nearing the end of his 8th grade year, my son reads at about an 11th or 12th High School grade level.

The best part of a program like LMB is that ALL children can learn to read with their program(s).
People with dyslexia and/or reading/learning disorders must "learn" to read differently.
I believe it's imperative that multi-sensory reading programs, such as, LMB, should be implemented in ALL schools, nationwide, from the very start of a child's education. LMB should be your child's 1st reading program!

Our school district has been using the LMB program in their Middle School as their Response to Intervention (RTI) solution and they have seen significant results in almost all of the students grades!
Ideally though LMB should be implemented in 1st grade when a student is just learning to read.
However, our middle school has had very poor student test scores over the last few years. Therefore, a supplemental reading instructional program had to be implemented per the Dept. of Educ.
The previous sentence may not be 100% correct, but it's pretty darn close.

Wouldn't it be so awesome if NO child EVER again had to feel 'dumb, stupid, behind, or slow'?
Especially if that child was your child(s) or your grandchild?

In addition to the double-deficit dyslexia, my son also has dysgraphia, several different types of visual problems and has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit disorder-inattentive type. He was also recently diagnosed with depression too.

Loopeez

Attention parents of special needs children: Please check out this new product that I found called Loopeez! They're amazing! I've been trying to find a product like this for the past 11-12 years to help my dyslexic son learn how to tie his shoes!! Unfortunately I could never find anything like this. Now at 15, almost 16 years old, well, let's just say that it may be a little too late to try and put the Loopeez on my son's combat boots that he currently wears. He still does not know how to tie his shoe. He can't even tie a bow, or I guess knot would be a better word to use when I'm talking about a male! Lol!

I'm eventually still going to try and talk him into at least trying the Loopeez. The Loopeez shown in the picture below can be turned over and used as a solid black Loopeez. They come in a lot of different colors and styles too. The woman AKA mom who invented these is the sweetest thing. Just knowing that another mom invented these to help all of us other struggling moms (and kids) makes me really want to buy that product even more.

Arm & Hammer Total 2-in-1 Dryer Cloths

OMG!! These new Arm & Hammer Total 2-in-1 dryer cloths (I call them sheets) smell SO GOOD!!

I bought the lavender and vanilla scented ones. I had 2 scent choices and I can't recall what the other flavor was, but I obviously must've thought it was pretty bad for me to have picked lavender over it!! I've just never been a big fan of lavender for some reason. But I do like vanilla. However, these dryer sheets, IMO, do not really smell like lavender or vanilla. I think they smell like baby powder.

Anyway, I don't like it that there's only 40 sheets in this tub. I also don't like the fact that if you want to keep them moist (and you do!) then you have to make sure and reseal the little piece of paper over the opening. Not that it's going to help all that much either. About half way thru my box, I started adding just a tad bit of water in the container because all the sheets were starting to get dried out. Or at least it seemed that way to me.

Lastly, I do not like the fact that I am so obsessed with wanting our clothes, towels, sheets, etc to smell fabulous so much so that I will use two-four dryer sheets at a time, depending on what I'm drying. Therefore, buying dryer sheets gets to be VERY expensive at our house!

I'm so glad that I finally found a scent that I LOVE. Hopefully, these dryer sheets will be available in larger sizes real soon.

FYI- As I was proofing this review, I realized how BORING AND LAME my life must seem to anyone else who may read this. BUT........ that's okay, because I LOVE MY LAME AND BORING LIFE! I really do.
So I really hope people don't read my blog and make rude and hateful comments. Besides, I know there are worse blogs than mine out there!

Mally Cosmetics review

I finally received my Fierce in Five Mally kit that I ordered from QVC a couple of weeks ago. Yay!

I've been eyeing her products for over a year but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money on them. I have only ordered from QVC one time and that was years ago (like 10-15 years ago). So when I saw that it was available for their easy pay plan of 2 payments, I decided to order it. Because somehow in my brain, it seems like I've spent less money that way.

This was the kit that had the Ultimate Performance liquid foundation that everyone seems to be talking about and wanting to get their hands on. Apparently, it's not available for purchase anywhere else. And it's only available at QVC with the purchase of this kit, I believe. When I first looked at the foundation color, Medium, I immediately thought it was way too orange for me. So much so, that I had already put it away and was planning on trying to sell it later on. However, I kept on reading the reviews about it everywhere and decided I'd give it a try. Well, you know that saying never judge a book by its cover? That definitely applies here. I LOVE this foundation!!! And I don't even like liquid foundation! Ever since I can remember, I've only used cream foundations. I've tried several liquid foundations over the years, but I've never found a liquid foundation that could give me the full coverage I prefer.

This kit also contained the infamous Mally volumizing mascara.  I wasn't impressed with it. I may be the only person in the world that doesn't care for it, but I don't. I'll take Clinique any day over the Mally mascara.

Moving on, also included in my Mally kit was an Evercolor shadow stick (cream eyeshadow), an Evercolor Ultimate waterproof eyeliner, a High Shine liquid lipstick (basically it's a lip gloss) and a tube of Liquid Face Defender Blush. I ordered the kit for "Medium" skin tones. The blush is awesome! Having never used anything but powder blush, this was different for me. I honestly didn't think I'd like it but I do! It just takes a very small amount, which means that I'll be burnt out on it way before I even put a dent in it. I think this could possibly last me about 3 years, and that's if I used it every day.
The eyeliner and lipstick (gloss) were nothing special.  Once again, I prefer my Clinique eyeliner and lipstick over Mally's (sorry all of you Mally fans).

However, I will briefly write about the shadow stick, which is basically a creamy eyeshadow in a tube. Just like the Mally blush, I have never used a cream based eyeshadow before. I will say that I really did like it. The color I received (medium kit) has just a wee bit too much shimmer for me, but even with that shimmer in it, it still looks better on me than the powder eyeshadow that I've used all my life.  At my age, I know that I need to be using more cream based products on my face and that I also need to be using matte, not glittery or shimmery colors/products.
And if anyone reading this right now isn't sure if you, too, have reached that age, then just let me know and I'll gladly give you my mother's phone number and trust me, she won't have a problem letting you know!!
I know that Mally also sells a blush set that is a cream/powder duo. I plan on trying that soon but I'm still trying to figure out what color to order.

So I think that wraps up my Mally cosmetics review. I will look tomorrow and get the actual names of all the product "colors" that I have and I'll post those then.

Apparently 2012 is the year to get organized. ~~We've~~ I've been trying to get my life and our home more organized for awhile now. I can tell you this much- the more products that you buy to help you get organized, then the more clutter you're going to end up having. Or maybe that's just in my case. Or maybe it's only that way until you actually start implementing and using the organizing products.

Either way, my house seems very cluttered right now. Everywhere I look there's some type of item laying around that's supposed to help me become more organized. I've somehow ended up with two Day-Planners, yes two! I knew that I had bought one around Christmas but I could not find it anywhere, so I went out and bought another one last month. And guess what? Yep, you guessed it. I found the first one about a week ago. So now I have two of them! And guess what else? Yep, you guessed it again! You're good! I haven't wrote a damn thing in either one of them!

I'm currently looking for the receipts for both of them!

I have come to realize that probably my greatest asset to this blog would be reviewing some of the many (too many-as my family would say) products that I buy. My sister has a friend who calls the As seen on TV aisles - your sister's aisle. Whenever my family or friends want to know if a particular product works, they call me, because they know that I've probably already went out and purchased it! Now don't think that I buy every as seen on TV prouct because in my opinion, I don't really buy that many of them. Or maybe it's that I just don't keep that many of them.

Dyslexia and Lindamood-Bell

When my son was diagnosed with double-deficit dyslexia (apparently the worst type to have) in September of 2009, the psycho educational tester recommended many things. The most timely, costly and important recommendation being that we enroll him in some type of multi-sensory learning program, preferably one called Lindamood-Bell. At that time, I had no idea what that meant, I was still in shock from the diagnosis. After that day, things moved swiftly. Within 3 weeks, we had packed up half of our house up, our two dogs and moved into an extended stay hotel and my son was enrolled in Lindamood-Bell learning center. I was very fortunate that my boss, at the time, was very understanding and allowed me to work from the hotel via phone and fax.

On my son's first day, I had to write out the largest check that to date, I've ever written. Wow! I felt like I was taking a HUGE risk! And I was! We had no clue whether or not this place would help him. I had googled Lindamood-Bell to death and was pretty much only finding their own statistics and web pages

Lindamood-Bell. Yes, it is a very odd name. And yes, I did spell it correctly.

You're probably on this page because you did a search for Lindamood-Bell. That probably means you know someone with a learning disorder, quite possibly dyslexia.
In a nutshell, Lindamood-Bell saved my son's future.

This blog is a very sssslllllooowwww work in progress. I have faith that I will get it to where I want it to be someday soon. Between all the DIY projects we ( I ) have going on, trying to run my own small business and trying to be the best mom and wife I can be, well, that kind of leaves me worn out!

This year, I am really trying to make some changes in my life. I believe that having and being active with this blog will help me stay motivated to achieve these changes.
