A picture can speak a thousand words. That prove to be what is on my mind when I stumbled upon this wonderful artist, José Manuel Hortelano-Pi from Madrid. He somehow managed to portray human expression and body language impressively; like an emotion stuck in a picture. These are few of his artworks:

Listening to music is one of the way for me to release my tension; especially while driving. I love a soothing feeling it brought me against the background of hustle and bustle of the city. It's like having a dose of coldness in the heating heat of the afternoon. This time around, I would like to share with you Mumford and Sons, a band that I stumbled upon few months ago in YouTube. I can't stop spinning the track Little Lion Man from the album Sigh No More. Check out the video!

Mumford and Sons formed in December 2007 and they shared a common purpose: "to make music that matters without taking themselves too seriously". Four young men from West London in their early twenties, they have fire in their bellies, romance in their hearts, and rapture in their masterful, melancholy voices. Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa (The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines)

First of all, I would like to make it clear that this post is totally from my personal point of view. I paid for the ticket myself (not being sponsored like others) and I am entitled for my comments. As soon as I finished watching this movie, I tweeted some of my review on Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa, some of my friends agreed with it while there are a number of them did not. One even said that if I had so much to say on that movie, maybe I should make my own film. Which is totally nonsense; if I am a movie producer, I might produce a film. However, I am not. It’s like saying a carpenter should be a businessman, while the businessman should be a carpenter.

Truth to be told, I dozed off few minutes during the first half of the movie; and I rarely dozed off while watching a movie. (This is the second time and the first time was while watching Underdog Soldier). All in all, the CGI effects are commendable, worth the 8 million spent to make the movie. However, the overall film is a little bit gloomy and uninspired, apart from the fighting scenes. The details from the CGI are washed out by the gloominess of the color of the film.

The main actor, Stephen Rahman-Hughes as Merong Mahawangsa is praiseworthy, but when his dialogs keep changing from Malay to English, it’s distracting my attention throughout the movie. At one point, the dialog between Merong Mahawangsa and Prince Marcus (Gavin Stenhouse) on the ship, while fighting are so gayish, I almost half expecting that they will kiss each other. Marcus and Lycius (Hendrik Norman) dialogs are mostly stiff and confined by the script.

The antagonist character, Kamawas, played by Khir Rahman excelled in his deliverance of the evil sense of being. The characters of the Chinese Princess (Jing Lu) and Ying Ying (Nell Ng) are injecting humor in the film. Embok, played by Ummi Nazeera also added a little bit of color to the film. Even though Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa is an epic film, it doesn’t need to be boring. I still love the Puteri Gunung Ledang (a Malay movie few years back) much more than Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa. Nevertheless, I gave this movie 3.5/5 stars!

Now you can actually buy a breast milk ice cream! Yes, the real breast milk. It was donated by 15 women and each serving will only cost you $22.50. The product, unmistakenly named after Lady Gaga was called Baby Gaga dessert went on sale at an ice cream parlour, Icecreamists in Covent Garden, London in February. It was sold out only hours after it went on sale. Rumors have it, there were up to 200 women had already asked whether they can donate their own breast milk for the making of ice cream.

Unfortunately, the local authority had siezed the ice cream for health and safety check. Breast milk could carry viral infections, including hepatitis. However, the manufacturers said that they used the same screening procedures as blood donation centres or milk banks in London.

On the other hand, your Highness, Lady Gaga is planning to sue The Icrecreamists Limited asking them to change the "Baby Gaga" name.

The letter accuses The Icecreamists of "taking unfair advantage of, and riding on the coattails of" Lady Gaga's trademarks in a manner that is "deliberately provocative and, to many people, nausea-inducing".

Meanwhile, I was doing some Googling and saw a post in the Mothering forum asking for the recipe of making ice cream or milkshakes out of her breast milk.

I am looking for any recipes for making ice cream or milkshakes out of my breast milk. My MIL has leukemia, and I've read that breast milk has strong anti-cancer properties, and helps combat the side-effects of chemo. So I'm trying to find ways to make it appetizing for her. I've tried googling, but to no avail. Any ideas or recipes would be greatly appreciated.

It just come to prove that some weird view is just another one's normal view.

Black Swan

One of the best films I have watched in quite some times. The storyline was quite simple; a journey of a ballet dancer to perform a perfect dance as a Swan Queen. She has to be a White Swan and the Black Swan. The only problem was that she is the perfect fit for a White Swan, but still hasn’t found her darker side.

In her pursue of becoming a Black Swan, she found her evil side of herself. At this point of the movie, the border line between reality and hallucination blurred out. Natalie Portman is such an amazing actress. Although you can see how old she is, the fragile part of being a White Swan delivered well. The Black Swan’s side only can be seen at the end of the movie, and she excelled that part perfectly too.

All in all, the movie was mesmerizing, with few scenes injected some of the eerie feeling into the audiences. Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel and Natalie Portman delivered well throughout the movie. A must watch. I gave Black Swan 4.5/5 stars.

The Social Network

Why are we attracted to successful people? Because in every success, there always a story behind it. Whether it’s a hard work that paid off, a steel of determination that overcomes all the obstacles or the sad life ones have to endure just to become successful. Either way, it’s driving me to the cinema to watch the story behind Facebook.

The Synopsis

On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

The Review

The story is articulately made with the character of Mark Zuckerberg being played well by Jesse Eisenberg (I always remember him as the guy from Zombieland). Justin Timberlake also was in the movie and made me feel like punching myself in the face because for the first time in my life, I think he played the character of Sean Parker well. Andrew Garfield and Armie Hammer also played their respective characters well.

All in all, the movie is very well made and really fun to watch it! 4/5 stars from me!

The Next Three Days: Lose who you are to save what you love

Consider yourself an everyday type of person, if you are married, how well do you really know your spouse? How far would you go to save her from a miscarriage of justice, after every legal action has failed? Could you forsake all of your worldly possessions? Would you be willing to leave behind your one and only old child, a six year old, as part of the price of freedom? Willing to risk being shot on sight? What about always wondering if law enforcement is going to kick down your door in the middle of the night? Going on the run requires money and money always runs out when on the run.

Yes, another movie reviews! I went to watch lots of movies during weekend (cheaper than my other favorite pass time activity which is shopping). Between watching 3D cartoon or some hot ass action (Tangled or Russell Crowe), I chose the latter.

Synopsis
A married couple's life is turned upside down when the wife is accused of a murder.

OMG. Love this poster!

My Review

This movie is actually a remake of French movie: Pour elle (Anything For Her). And it was awesome! If I never Googled about the movie, I would never believe that the story is a remake. It is a good movie, keeps me guessing what the next moves are and agitated throughout the movie. After every two gripping scenes, I turned to my friend on my left and said “I like this movie”.

Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Bank are both excellent. The director, Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby, Crash and lots more) directed the film well. You should watch it, your friends should watch it and it should be a box office. However, I am sure the audiences will be divided between Harry Potter and God’s forbid, 2 Alam. Anyway, I heard Tangled (Rapunzel) is a good movie, maybe I will watch that next ;)

Harry Potter and The Deadly Hallows Part 1 Review

The much awaited movie

Well, I must watch the movie myself don’t I? The movie is topping the box office chart for the second week in a row with the worldwide grossing of $609 Million. Thus, my friend and I went to watch the movie last week.

Synopsis

As Harry races against time and evil to destroy the Horcruxes, he uncovers the existence of three most powerful objects in the wizarding world: the Deathly Hallows.

This must be my favorite poster of all!

My Review:

It was one of the closest adapted to the book so far, which doesn’t really meant a good thing. I never really into the first quarter of the book to begin with. I found that the storyline is quite slow and depressing; especially on the part where Harry, Hermoine and Ron wandering around without any clue where and how to get the next horcrux.

Thus, the movie is becoming, as my Brunei friend put it, “dragging” a little bit. This resulted in my friend fell asleep half part of the movie. On the good note, the first part of the final installation of Harry Potter series cannot be ended in any better way. I can’t wait for the Part 2 soon enough!

My rating: 4/5 stars. Worth watching, but if you’re not strong enough, you might fall asleep.

Dr Rozmey Killed His Own Movie: 2 Alam Review

The amazing, Dr. Rozmey

The Buzz

This is the most talked about movie in Malaysia right now; even though 80% of it is bad. 2 Alam was drowned by the cockiness of the producer, Dr Rozmey. Some of his statements:

Opening day said to collect RM 2 Million

Boosted about the RM 40 Million estimated box office

1. 2 Alam will collect RM 40 million at the box office (5 times the highest grossing Malaysian movie)
2. It will be shown in all 700 screens in the country
3. Cinema operators will postpone Harry Potter The Deathly Hallows Part 1 to make away to 2 Alam

Other OMG-what-do-you-think-you’re-doing things he did:

Claimed that 2 Alam will be shown in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei

1. Announced that he did not need media to promote his movie after media criticized his movie as “trash and waste of time and money”
2. The poster of 2 Alam featured himself and his production house
3. Went to a solo promotional tour signing autographs and taking photos with fans

Synopsis

"2 Alam" is about a transsexual named Amy, previously known as Adam bin Zainal, who commits suicide and whose body is brought back to his village for burial. While prepping his body for burial according to Islamic customs, strange incidents begin to arise.

My Review

Yes, I went to watch the movie yesterday. I try to keep an open mind without letting Dr. Rozmey haughty claims to cloud my mind. These are what I came out with:

1. The soundtracks used are good, but the sound effects are too much and sometimes at unnecessary scenes just to evoke pointless suspense
2. The makeups are way too much; even for the male actors! You can see clearly the different between the white face and the darker shades on neck
3. I can see the moral of the story very clearly. The message of the movie is projected well; changing what God’s gift to you is against in Islam. 2 Alam also touch on social problems in the society today; drinking alcohols and commit suicide
4. Even though the message is quite clear, the storyline is too simple and scenes were wasted by extended redundant flashbacks
5. The actors did their acting well; pardon all their makeup

At the end of the day, the movie did stir up your conscience and trigger your remorse. And for that, I gave the movie 2.5 stars. For the first baby from DR Movie Production, it is not a (totally) bad lemon after all. The movie most probably will sell better if not be drowned by the cockiness of Dr. Rozmey. In the end, he killed his own movie.

Pamela Anderson next?

P/S: I can't wait to watch the next movie from Dr. Rozmey. He mentioned that he wants Pamela Anderson to be in his next film. I am sure it will pull together another box office miracle.

Beyonce Heat Perfume is Too Sexy for British TV

Too sexy for TV!

For a perfume advertisement, I think it is indeed too sexy. Beyonce's Heat Perfume ads has been banned on daytime TV due too its sexual imagery. Beyonce is laying on some sort of table in a middle of the room, her red dress barely cover her boobs and she's basically caressing her breast at one time!

Don't get me wrong, I love Beyonce and sex does sell. But when you're projecting it excessively with no reason, you tend to step the boundary of being slutty. Just saying.

When Karl Lagerfeld Talks

I saw this very interesting article on Karl Lagerfeld on his idea or comments on things in his world. Check it out!

On the house of Chanel: It was a sleeping beauty when I joined, still a beauty, but sleeping.

On the past: Everyone wants to pay respect, but if it's too much like a funeral parlour we all want to get away.

Coco's two mistakes: In the 60s, (Madame Chanel was born in 1883) she forgot that elegance has to change. She didn't like mini's and she thought blue jeans were horrible. Nobody wants to be told by an old lady.

On re-creating Chanel: No other house has the logo, the camellia, the pearls, the shoe with the black toe, the jewellery. I play with the elements like a musician plays with notes.

On computers: I am quite fascinated by the digital age. I don't use computers because my brain is supposed to do the same thing. But computers are beautiful; they look like Brancusi sculptures.

On happiness: I'm always in a bad mood, but only with myself. I'm never pleased with myself. I always think the next (collection) will be better.

On models: Chanel liked models who looked like what she thought she looked when she was young.

What was Coco like: I have met older men who knew her and who say she was charming. She was not a feminist and she was never a dyke. She hated women. She was only for men.

On ego: I have no 'me' personality, I am not on an ego trip.

On working for Fendi: I can capture - I have a strange gift - what they should express but cannot themselves.

On money: I am good with people who invest. Money makes money. If you don't invest, the box is closed.

On the price of haute couture: I don't have any guilt trips. If people buy couture, other people make a living.

On work: I am there to be used, but I like to be used the way I think I should be used.

On fashion: Today, the inexpensive and the very expensive have more value than the in-between.

On himself: "Who am I? I'm a cocktail.

On the Karl Lagerfeld label: It was in a way the poor child. It reflects the way I dress, but I am not obsessed with it.

On the future: I never think of what comes after me. I really don't care. I never think about the past or the future - only the moment.

Why You Should Watch Unstoppable

Unstoppable

Oh my! I was not expecting anything from the moment I bought the ticket. I was actually planning to watch The Other Guy; staring Derek Jeter, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson, but I missed the last show for that day.

Anyway, Unstoppable is about a runway train caused by a stupid engineer mixed up with technical errors and bad lucks. Oh and the train is carrying cargos of toxic chemicals. This movie is based on a true story starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson.

I am not sure why there are not lots of buzz about this movie, it literally keep me at the edge of my seat throughout the movie. The story line is actually simple, but with a great graphic details and sound effects, I basically biting my fingernails. I am never did that, trust me.

So, if you haven’t watched it yet, please do. I gave it 4/5 stars!

I love Eminem, but after listening to his much talked about album, Recovery, I felt that his way of rapping (some said Eminem is not a rapper, who knows? I can't sing!) is still the same. Not that I am complaining, I like how he's rapping and still will do. Definitely buy the original later!

She's hot, she has her own clothing line, she's rich (daughter of AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim), she's a former hip-hop MC (Teh Tarik Crew) and now a R&B star. Oh and she is Malaysian! What is not to love? With her super sexy image - some lambasted her since she's a Muslim, she turned out to be more than the pretty face.

Growing up, Nina was influenced by many of the great 1980s and 90s American hip-hop acts, including the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC, The Roots and Lauryn Hill of The Fugees.
