3D Printing Expo

Last week I had the opportunity to go to the 3D Printing Expo at the Javits Center. I primarily went for my job but found it very interesting overall so I figured I’d post my recap here of what I learned and saw. Mostly on display were all different types of 3D printers that showcased lots of figures, toys and artwork. Having no knowledge about the 3D printing world I just walked around and went to a few lectures. Honestly all the booths/vendors looked the same to me but it was neat to see the different objects you can print from just plastic.

I went to 2 lectures…here’s some tidbits I learned that might be helpful, interesting or fun:

3D Printing with Adobe Photoshop

3D printing software is not designed for creatives but for engineers, so Adobe wants to make it accessible for designers to create 3D content within Photoshop
You don’t need a printer to develop content, there are built-in options to send your designs to third party vendors to have printed (even UPS is getting in on 3D printing)
Photoshop can give 3D dimension to flat objects in conjunction with other 3D rendering software

Printing your own content:

The Future of 3D Printing

Possibilities for personalization are endless with all this data out there
Need to make it easier for consumers to create content via user-friendly software
Unexplored areas that have huge potential is in building/construction as well as food (who know?!). Example: 3D Pancake Printer

One last cool product I discovered was the 3D Doodler Pen, which may go on my Wishlist. Definitely check it out!

Ronnie’s Racers

As I mentioned in my last post my mother fought a long brave battle with lung cancer, which is a very special cause for me. November is Lung Cancer Awareness month and I had the opportunity to fund raise for the the Breathe Deep NYC Lungevity walk fundraiser. This was our second year walking with the Ronnie’s Racers team in honor of my Mom to bring awareness to this deadly disease.

Despite the cold, wet and windy day the Ronnie’s Racers team made the most of the walk and raised just over $1,300. Thank you to all of my friends and family for being apart of Ronnie’s Racers! I’m still taking donations until December 1, so please consider making a contribution. Also if you or a loved one is at risk for lung cancer please get screened – early detection can save lives!

A Long Road Back

It’s been a very long time since I posted. It’s been a full year since my mother passed away from a long battle with lung cancer. It’s actually been a very long road for me – when she was diagnosed our family (my father, husband and myself) were diagnosed with the dreadful disease as well. I put my life on hold and lived in limbo not knowing what would from happen day to day. Now that it’s a year later I’m slowly trying to pick up the pieces of my new new normal life. That being said I’m hoping to start blogging and scrapbooking again. I’m finally feeling more inspired and want to capture my memories by preserving them. For almost 2 years I hadn’t scrapped a layout because I just didn’t feel motivated or inspired. It was a really a painful time in my life and the joy I previous had from creating wasn’t there anymore. Recently I felt energized and excited to create the layout below, amazingly everything just came together and clicked!

I’m slowing getting back into it but still have some hesitation but I’m trying not to put so much pressure on myself – it’s suppose to be fun after all!

So stay tuned and I’ll be back!

Lucky 7!

It’s amazing how 7 years can fly by so fast! We’ve been through lots of ups and downs but it’s made us stronger. Here’s to many more years to come with my best friend. We truly are 2 peas in a pod! Happy Anniversary, J!

US Open 2012

Over the weekend we were lucky to go to the US Open for the day and saw some pretty good matches. We went last year as well but this time we spent the whole day there instead of a few hours for 1 match. I’m always impressed with the designs and logos they come up with to represent tennis in NYC and this year didn’t disappoint. Great job by artist Michael Crampton, who was tapped to illustrate the poster!

Goodbye August, Hello September!

Two posts in one week is crazy but here I am! Michelle Underwood has a new kit out called the Libby Collection which worked perfectly to document my August events. Even though I’ve been creatively challenged lately I’ve still been trying to keep up with Project Life by doing monthly layouts. Well I’ve only done May, June and August but it’s a start! Can’t believe August is almost over – it’s been a fun and busy month but I’m looking forward to September, my favorite month. So goodbye August, hello September!
