Different Covid Easter in Madrid: 3 nice plans for holidays: nature, flamenco and art

This Easter week, without being able to leave Madrid, has been very satisfying, in fact I think I have taken the opportunity to enjoy nature and culture.

Here are three tips for you to enjoy them too:

- Nature: I discovered the route of the Trofas stream and Peñascales reservoir in Torredolones, a route of 1.6 km ideal to do with small children (I did it with my little 4 year old), you can see the reservoir, and small streams along the way as well as huge stones forming almost magical structures. Ideal for a picnic and only 30 minutes drive from the city centre.

- Culture (I): The flamenco tablao Las Tablas made me vibrate on Good Friday. The tablaos now need all our support as they were usually crowded with tourists. The show offered by this modern tablao is fantastic with first class dancers and singers and couldn't stop myself clapping and shouting: OLÉ!

- Culture (II): Fundacion Mapfre Exhibition of paintings by the great Russian expressionist painter and portraitist Jawleski (1864-1941) member of Der Blaue Reiter and also in the same building the photographs on the forgotten memory of the Japanese photographer Tomoko Yoneda, both of which will be on display until 9 May.

Esta semana santa, sin poder salir de Madrid ha sido ha sido muy satisfactorio, de hecho creo que he aprovechado para disfrutar de la naturaleza y cultura. Os paso estos tres tips para que los podáis disfrutar también:

- Naturaleza: he descubierto la ruta del arroyo Trofas y embalse de Peñascales en Torredolones, unas ruta de 1,6 km ideales para hacer con niños pequeños (yo lo hice con mi pequeña de 4 años), se ve el embalse, y pequeños arroyos en el camino así como piedras enormes formando estructuras casi mágicas. Ideal para montar un picnic y a solo 30 min en coche del centro de la ciudad.

- Cultura (I): El tablao flamenco las Tablas me hizo vibrar en viernes santo. Los tablaos necesitan ahora todo nuestro apoyo ya que habitualmente estaban concurridos por turistas. El espectáculo que ofrece este moderno tablao es fantastico con unos bailaores y cantantes de primera.

- Cultura (II): Exposición de pintura del gran pintor expresionista y retratista ruso Jawleski (1864-1941) miembro del Der Blaue Reiter y también en el mismo edificio las fotografias sobre la memoria olvidada de la fotografa japonesa Tomoko Yoneda que estarán disponible ambas dos hasta el 9 de mayo.

I firmly believe that in the city's traditional markets you can find the best gastronomic and most daring offer in the city. That is to say, they may not have ironed linen tablecloths, uniformed waiters, or a neat décor, but clearly their food and their bets take you to seventh heaven, gastronomically speaking of course.

It happened to me a few months ago with Doppelganger in Mercado de Antón Martín and it has happened to me again with Tripea in Mercado de Vallehermoso. A stand where I ate on Sunday and today, Monday, I dream of going back.

Tripea has been open since 2017 in Mercado de Vallehermoso and chef Roberto Martínez Foronda gives you the friendliest of smiles and approaches you with extreme delicacy and professionalism to finish your dishes. With his cap and casual look, he's a bit of a misleading figure, and it was only today when I looked into his CV that I discovered that he is the alma mater of this special gastronomic concept. I discovered that he has been trained with well known chefs such as Dario Barrio, the Roca brothers, Andrés Madrigal and that he has been head chef at one of my favourite restaurants, Nakeima.

At Tripea, the concept is fusion with a Southeast Asia and Peruvian twist. On weekdays a 7-course gastronomic menu designed to share is available for 35 euros without drinks and on Sundays you have a short menu written in a blackboard that sounds complicated to read but that works wonderfully on the palate. What's more, I still salivate when I remember it... Oysters with a ginger and soy sauce, chicken in dim sum and sea bass tiradito were my choices, but the flavours were truly unique and breathtaking.

I love discovering these places so full of talent! Thanks Tripea, I really enjoyed it!

And it's not only me who says it, as Michelin included it in its guide and Repsol awarded it with a SUN distinction

Creo firmemente que en los mercados tradicionales de la ciudad puedes encontrar la mejor propuesta gastronómica de la ciudad. Es decir, puede que no tengan los manteles de lino planchados, ni jefes de sala, ni una decoración cuidada, pero claramente su comida y apuesta te llevan a septimo cielo, gastronomicamente hablando claro.

Me pasó hace unos meses con Doppelganger en Mercado de Antón Martín y me ha vuelto a pasar con Tripea en Mercado de Vallehermoso. Un puesto donde comí el domingo y hoy lunes, solo sueño con volver..

Tripea lleva abierto desde 2017 en el Mercado de Vallehermoso y el chef Roberto Martínez Foronda te dedica la más amable de las sonrisas y se acerca con extremada delicadeza y profesionalidad a terminar sus platos. Con su gorra y look informal despista, y solo hoy que me he puesto a investigar sobre su CV he descubierto que él es el alma mater de este especial concepto gastronómico. Descubro que se ha formado con los grandes chefs Dario Barrio, hermanos Roca, André Madrigal y que ha sido jefe de cocina de uno de mis restaurantes favoritos Nakeima.

En Tripea, el concepto es fusión con toques del sudeste asiático y Perú y lo que me encanta es que entre semana tienes un menú gastronómico de 7 platos pensado para compartir que cuesta sin bebidas 35 euros y el domingo una carta muy corta , complicada de lectura pero que en paladar funciona de maravilla. Es más, salivo al recordarla. Ostras con una salsa de gengibre y soja, cerdo rebozado encima de un arroz blanco, pollo en dim sum y tiradito de corvina fueron mis opciones, pero los sabores fueron realmente únicos y breathtaking.

Me encanta descubrir estos lugares tan llenos de talento!! Gracias Tripea, realmente flipé!

Visiting artits studios in Carabanchel with stop in Usera for chinese food

These are difficult times, who can deny it. However, this weekend I felt like a tourist in my own city and I enjoyed it. There is an incredible artistic offer in Carabanchel. I also took the opportunity to eat at the famous Chinese restaurant Lao Tau in Usera and admired the building painted in this neighbourhood by 3TTMan.

The morning started with a visit to the studio of the photographer Alejandro Guijarro who showed us the whole artistic process behind his works, where photography may be the least important thing as everything turns around memory, his well-known blackboards and X-rays of paintings from the Prado Museum among others.

We were lucky that Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, an industrial designer well known for his famous lamps called petlamps produced by artisans from Ghana, Ethiopia, Thailand, Colombia and Australia among others, also showed us his workshop and his new productions, a real marvel.

On our Carabanchel tour, we also took the opportunity to visit Sabrina Amrani's gallery in Calle Salaberri 52, where the artist Joël Andrianomearisoa, a Magadascar artist who has been present at the Venice Biennale, is currently exhibiting his work.

And finally, we went to Usera where I was amazed by the mural of the urban artists 3TTMen and ate in a totally Chinese atmosphere in the Lao Tau restaurant.,The tiles on the walls represent bullfighters and flamencas but it is the only Spanish thing you'll find in this delicious Cantonese restaurant where hake head and noodles are their speciality. Estos son tiempos difíciles, quien lo puede negar. Sin embargo este fin de semana me he sentido turista en mi propia ciudad y he disfrutado mucho visitando la increíble oferta artística de Carabanchel. Además aproveché para comer en el famoso restaurante chino Lao Tau en Usera y admirar el mural realizado en este barrio por 3TTMan.

La mañana comenzó con visita al estudio del fotógrafo Alejandro Guijarro que nos mostró todo el proceso artístico que hay detrás de sus obras donde puede que la fotografía sea lo de menos ya que todo gira en torno a la memoria, sus conocidas pizarras y radiografías de cuadros del Museo del Prado entre otras.

Tuvimos la suerte que Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, diseñador industrial muy conocido por sus famosas lámparas llamadas petlamps producidas por artesanos de Ghana, Etiopía, Tailandia, Colombia y Australia entre otros nos enseñó también su taller y sus nuevas producciones, una auténtica maravilla.

En el tour por Carabanchel, aprovechamos también para visitar la galería de Sabrina Amrani en la calle Salaberri 52, donde el artista Joël Andrianomearisoa , artista de Magadascar que ha estado presente en la Biennale de Venecia expone actualmente.

Y por último, hicimos un salto a Usera donde aluciné con el mural de los artistas urbanos 3TTMen y comí de cine en un ambiente totalmente chino del restaurante Lao Tau, aunque los azulejos de las paredes sean de toreros y flamencas es lo único español que encontrarás en este delicioso restaurante cantonés donde la cabeza de merluza es su especialidad.

Previous moment before the concert

Madrid is full of wonderful secrets, today it is the turn of an oasis of nature and music in the middle of the city. I am talking about the Olivar de Castillejo, a magical place near the busy Alberto Alcocer Street. In this olive grove, it seems that Napoleon himself slept with his troops during the War of Independence.

It is now a Foundation created by the descendants of the original owner, José de Castillejo who was a naturalist and intellectual. And thanks to him, we can enjoy his programme of open-air concerts in the summer. It is a luxury to be able to appear in the middle of nature to enjoy a concert of classical music and a good aperitif thanks to the small terrace installed near the stage. So between olive trees, a few rabbits and for only 10 euros (important only in cash), you forget that outside it is terribly hot and that you are in the city!

Madrid está lleno de secretos maravillosos, hoy le toca el turno a un oasis de naturaleza y música en pleno asfalto de la ciudad. Hablo del Olivar de Castillejo, un lugar mágico cerca de la concurrida calle Alberto Alcocer. En este olivar, al parecer durmió el mismisimo Napoleón con sus tropas durante la guerra de la Independencia.

Actualmente constituye una Fundación creada por los descendientes del propietario original, José de Castillejo que era naturalista e intelectual. Y gracias a él, podemos disfrutar en verano de su programa de conciertos al aire libre. Es un lujo poder aparecer en plena naturaleza para disfrutar de un concierto de música clásica y un buen aperitivo gracias a la pequeña terraza instalada cerca del escenario. Así que entre olivos, algún que otro conejo y por solo 10 € (importante solo en efectivo), ¡se te olvida que fuera hace un calor espantoso y que estás en la ciudad!

Puedes consultar aquí el programa, lo mejor es llegar unos 30 minutos antes del concierto con tu mascarilla porque el aforo es reducido a 100 personas.

Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer : Parallel Visions in Prado Museum

On Monday the exhibition of Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer was inaugurated at the Prado Museum. It is incredible the amount of activities that the museum is carrying out on the occasion of its bicentennial.

I was lucky enough to attend the inauguration and enjoy the fantastic exhibition that takes you back more than five centuries of history. In the first room, the painting 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp' painted in 1632 by Rembrandt stands out, you have the glances of 24 men dressed with stiff necks and serious semblants. After the visit you will be immersed in wonderful still lifes and customary scenes combining it with large paintings from the Museum and loans that have been obtained for the Exhibition. Velázquez's Mars painting is one of my favorites as well as the drunks and seeing them is always a wonder.

The exhibition will be open until September and while visitors can also visit Fra Angelico and the exhibition of Giacometti, a luxury museum.

EL lunes se inauguró la exposición de Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer. Miradas afines en el Museo del Prado. Es increíble la cantidad de actividades que está realizando el museo con motivo de su bicentenario.

Tuve la suerte de poder asistir a la inauguración y disfrutar de la fantástica exposición que te transporta a más de cinco siglos de historia, en la primera sala destaca especialmente el cuadro de 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp pintado en 1632 por Rembrandt, tienes las miradas clavadas de 24 hombres vestidos con rigidos cuellos y semblantes serios. Después la visita te sumerge en maravillosos bodegones y escenas costumbristas combinandolo con grandes cuadro del Museo y prestamos que han conseguido para la Exposición. El cuadro de Marte de Velázquez es uno de mis favoritos así como los borrachos y verlos siempre es una maravilla.

La exposición estará abierta hasta septiembre y mientras los visitantes pueden también visitar Fra Angelico y la exposición de Giacometti, todo un lujo de museo.
