G4 Pony!

This new My Little Pony Playset called "Pony Princess Wedding Castle" is expected to be released summer of 2012.

Included are Princess Cadence and Shining Armour (who happens to be a BOY!) Considering how often collectors have lamented over there not being any male ponies in the G3 or G4 lines, I bet there are going to be some excited pony fans once they hear this news!

Do you have your costume ready?

Last summer, the My Little Pony Fair hosted a costume parade and contest where Fair attendees dressed up in pony themed outfits and strutted their stuff. I really enjoyed watching this event and can't wait to see what our participants will come up with this year!

If you are looking for a pony themed wig, check out Head Kandi by Cyber Falls. They currently have Applejack, Rarity, and Big Macintosh wigs, but accept custom orders as well. Fun stuff!
It is a sad story and if this were my brother we'd be having some words. Anyway, thought I'd pass it along via blog post.

Dear Summer,

I am writing to let you know about something awful that happened to my daughter. She is 30 now, but played with her beloved My Little Ponies when she was a child in the 80s for hundreds of hours. They have been stored safely in a box in her room for years while she has been teaching overseas.

At Christmas, her brother came home, supposedly to help me clean out the garage, as my health is not good. I told him and my daughter told him that her My Little Pony collection was NOT to be touched, but he was in a very angry mood. He not only threw out my entire DVD collection and about half my CD's, he ripped the box of My Little Ponies, anywhere from 50 to 100 of them; I can't remember, from my hands, saying he just talked to his sister in Finland and she didn't want them anymore. I instantly called her in Finland and she practically had a nervous breakdown. I ran out and he had taken my car and was gone. I assumed he donated them to Goodwill, like he did the DVDs, but they have been very good and very honest with me, giving me back about 60 of my DVDs they hadn't sold yet, and they told me they hadn't received any My Little Pony donations, and indeed, there were none for sale in their store.I then went tearing back home, thinking my son put the pony box in the Bagster, and sure enough he did, but as I drove up, I saw a woman grab them and drive off with them.

She came back day after day and I asked her for my daughter's collection back, but she says she doesn't know what I was talking about. I finally told her if she returned I would call the police.

This woman was driving an expensive car and dressed expensively, so it is my belief she is going to try and sell this collection, perhaps on ebay, maybe through private channels. If we could recover even three or four, it would go a love way toward healing my daughter's heart.

My daughter always wrote her initials, MES for Meghan Elizabeth Smith, in permanent marker on the bottom of one hoof, and the pony's name on another hoof, so that is how they can be identified as hers. Can you help me spread the word among the My Little Pony collecting community, and if anyone runs across a pony with the initials "MES," written on the hoof, could I be notified so I can buy it back for her? She is just brokenhearted and in tears at the thought that her most beloved childhood toys were taken from her, and I am brokenhearted not only for that, but also for the cruel and heartless and dishonest behavior of her brother.

My son got the garage clean alright, but in the process I lost priceless family heirlooms and thousands of dollars in antique lace and pearl buttons. (I used to design and make doll clothes.) To see these wealthy women dumpster diving in my poor little neighborhood just made me sick. I would chase them off and and bring as much as I could back inside, but they just parked around the corner, and the moment I went inside they were back stealing whatever they could grab from the dumpster. It was pretty horrifying.

But the thing that is killing me the most is my beloved daughter losing her carefully preserved My Little Pony collection after all these years, for no reason other than the meanness of her brother, I will never understand it.

Can you help me spread the word and maybe, if my prayers are answered, and with the help of the good people of the My Little Pony world, we can get her at least a few of her ponies back.

Thank you,

Pat Smith

writing as Fat Cat on Blogger

I just checked with the Rosen Plaza Hotel and they told me that they have less than 15 rooms left in our room block for Saturday night. They have no additional rooms available for Saturday, so once the block fills up, there will not be any more rooms added. In other words, if you plan on staying at the host hotel (where the Fair is being held), you had better act fast and make your reservations. Fair guests staying at the Rosen Plaza will receive a special My Little Pony Fair key card and I'm working on getting you some extra goodies as well!

It was a lovely trip full of beach reading, swimming, and walking along the shoreline.

Now that I'm home and it is officially the start of my new year, I have a series of To-Do lists that need to be acknowledged. The first and most pressing item is tackling the mess that is my office. I spent the whole of yesterday sorting, filing, and organizing. It is almost finished and I owe it all to this:

Seriously. I picked up one of these labelers while I was Office Depot replacing my 10 year old 3 in 1 printer that died a slow and painful death, and it has provided me with new found motivation to sort and organize. Plus, I picked up some fun pink labeling tape that I'll be using to label all of my individual pony accessory bags. The possibilities are endless!

I had a bunch of loose MLP Fair Promo cards and Friendship is Magic giveaway items that needed a home so I placed them in some plastic storage drawers and slapped on a label and now it brings a smile to my face just looking at them all neatly organized in their new home. It's the little things right?

If you look to the right, you can see one of the floral wall murals that will soon be no more. I just need to commit to a paint color. Suggestions?

I realize that this whole, "It's a new year and I'm going to get organized" thing is cliche, but if you had seen my office a few days ago, I'm pretty sure you would have suggested I hop aboard the organization bandwagon. So with my new P-touch labeler in one hand, and my to-do lists in the other, I say, "Bring it 2012."

Out with the Old and in with the New!

It is a new year and that means the My Little Pont Fair is gearing up for the 2012 convention. If you aren't familiar with this activity, it basically consists of scouting out flea markets, yard sales, and thrift stores for My Little Ponies. In the past, I have documented my more bizarre pony hunting moments. Oddly enough, pony collecting generates some interesting stories and experiences.
It is certain that my free time is more limited now, but even if time wasn't an issue I wonder if I'd still be eager to dig through bins of grubby toys, haggle over the price of a TE Quackers, or save a smoozed Peachy because she was priced at a quarter.

After I completed my US pony collection, I think I may have lost a bit of the "crazy" related to collecting. Don't get me wrong, I'm still thrilled to find a missing princess crown clip or swirl shell, but I know the odds of finding accessories while pony hunting are even more of a rarity than finding an actual pony. I suppose I don't think it is worth the effort of driving around and coming home empty handed when there are other things to do with my day. I'm all about the ease of eBAY or purchasing directly from other collectors. Plus, I love the fact that whatever I end up purchasing ends up in my mailbox.

I also think I've been a bit spoiled by the annual My Little Pony Fair and the endless pony items available for purchase from the vendors. After experiencing the Fair, it is hard to get excited about a dirty Sundance hiding in a box of McDonald's toys.

Maybe someday I'll come across another $2 Mimic, but for now, I'm happy to pay a bit more for convenience.

Rainy Day Cartoons

It is a rainy curl up on the couch kind of day around here and what better way to spend a lazy Sunday than eating a bowl of sugary cereal and watching some cartoons.

I am a fan of the new My Little Pony Friendship is Magic series but, sometimes it is nice to pull out the old school 80s episodes for the sake of nostalgia. If I'm not in a pony mood, I'll likely reach for The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin. Both make a lovely way to spend the day.

Do you have a favorite 80s series? Any recommendations for me to expand my rainy day viewing?

For those not familiar with this episode (and I pity you if you have not been exposed to it in all its 80s-product-hocking glory) it can briefly be summarized as the following:

Flower loving Pony (Posey) takes pity on talking pathetic scrawny flowers who are actually escaped convicts and plants them in her garden. The flowers deplete the garden of all nutrients, kill the other plants and become rude enormous bully flowers. When all seems lost, a troop of gargantuan law enforcement crabs (yes, I said crabs) round up the deviant flowers and take them away. Posey then learns an important lesson through song about not judging people ( or um...flowers or crabs) based solely on their appearance.

So as I was cursing my rosebushes for getting so ridiculously large this year I was also kinda wishing I had a giant crab on hand since my fiskar hedge trimmers were pretty dull. Plus, I found myself with this song in my head:

When Fathead released a set of My Little Pony FIM wall graphics earlier this year, my initial reaction was something along the lines of "That's fun for a child's room." Not so much because I am above adorning my walls with images of ponies, but more so because I have a very strict rule of no ponies outside the Pony Room and wall space is premium real estate in that place. Given the choice between erecting new display shelving or slapping pony stickers on an empty wall, shelves will win every time.

Fast forward a few months, and now I find myself plotting a full take over of the main floor office. It is currently painted in murals of flowers and weeping willows. The previous owner used the room as a child's bedroom. I've never been a fan, but for lack of inspiration it hasn't been touched since we moved in almost two years ago. Plus, it has really high ceilings and if I'm going to spend that much time balancing myself and a paint roller on a ladder taller than a step stool, I better be committed to the idea. I'm thinking since I spend most of my time in the office working on My Little Pony projects, why not just embrace it and share the space with Twilight Sparkle and the gang?

I've assured my husband that pony wall graphics do not equal "My Little Pony Room Part 2", but I don't think he is entirely convinced.
Time has definitely gotten away from me as I haven't posted on the MLPCollector Blog in months! I've been trying to keep things balanced between teaching, planning the 2012 My Little Pony Fair, and being a mom. I have managed to check in at http://www.mlparena.com/ and http://www.mlptp.net/ from time to time, but not as much as I'd like.

I have managed to keep up on the newest My Little Pony releases and I'm really digging Wave 4. I found Feathermay, Flitterheart, Honeybuzz, Plumsweet, Snowcatcher, and Twinkleshine the other day while shopping at Meijer. Someone had stocked them, but they weren't in the system yet and the cashier told me that they weren't allowed to sell them. I wasn't about to let these girls be carted off to some back room where they'd wait to be keyed into the system and then placed onto the shelves. My life is way too hectic to make a daily trip to Meijer to stalk the toy aisles... There was a time and place for that (college) but, it is no longer an option. I may or may not have given the cashier in question an evil glare prompting him to call the toy department and nervously mutter the pony names into the receiver. Apparently, I am not above intimidating awkward teenagers when it comes to My Little Ponies. Shameful.

I am going to make a concerted effort to blog over the next few weeks since I feel like I need to reconnect with my neglected pony peeps. I hope you all are doing well!

My Little Pony Buy One Get One Free at Toys R Us

<img border="0" height="88" m$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-63LhiMtjz4s/TiONxzkqvJI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/5h68aSMP5Ng/s320/Toys-R-Us-Logo.png" width="320" />

In past years, when people came dressed up in wild pony-themed costumes during the My Little Pony Fair, they may have received a funny look. However, the fair staff embraced the trend this year and introduced our first ever My Little Pony costume contest. Participants dressed in pony inspired outfits and walked the (very short) runway while "Equestria Girls" played through the sound system. It was definitely fun as costumes ranged from a pint sized Satin and Lace, to an Applejack with a light up mane, and Pinkie Pie complete with balloons. I think this may need to become a regular event. It was very entertaining!

And before anyone asks, I didn't participate. I was just a spectator!
The documentary was beautifully done and it is clear that Julie put a lot of love and care into this daunting project. The film was definitely a success as viewers laughed, clapped wildly, and posed for photos with the film's creator after both showings. Copies of the film were sold at the My Little Pony Fair on Saturday of $10 and you bet I snagged a signed copy!

Didn't make it to the 2011 My Little Pony Fair in Rhode Island last weekend? Not to worry, I've added our extra 2011 Fair Pony stock and left over convention shirts to the Fair Shop on www.mylittleponycon.com . There are also a few 2010 shirts listed for a bargain price of only $10! I will begin shipping out pony orders July 22nd.

Check it out and place your order. We are very limited on shirt size availability. I will be updating the Fair Shop as sizes sell out.

I'm still recovering from all of the pony overload, but very pleased with how everything turned out. We had some amazing speakers including Hasbro marketing reps, Ryan Zintgraff of KLECT.com and Hillary DePiano discussed alternative selling platforms. The premiere of Jewel's Documentary film, My Little Obsession ,went off without a hitch, and the Hasbro tours were educational and entertaining. I especially loved touring their new Cake Mix Studios!

I'll be sure to post photos/video links soon, but for now, I'd like to give a special shout out to Karen who made the awesome Fair Banners and Badges, Emery for being the Fair Bingo leader, and to Ona who drew our amazing Fair Pony T Shirt artwork. You ladies ROCK!

I only had about 30 minutes to shop on Saturday since I was tied up with selling Fair merchandise and had to make sure we stayed on schedule. However, even 30 minutes was enough time to drop some money on a few new items for my collection! Check out this candid shot of me digging frantically through accessories. I was on a mission!
Hasbro will also need everyone to follow their guides as we walk around and not wander off – again, anyone found wandering will be kicked out and not let back in. They don't want to sound mean, but they have to enforce security since they're a publicly traded company and there are things that are just not ok to have the public find out about too soon.

New 2011 Comic Con Exclusive Pony Revealed!

<img border="0" height="314px" i$="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_1lQjgtDqGk/TgoH63M4GeI/AAAAAAAAAgQ/2oKcibeEwZE/s320/comic+con+2011.jpg" width="320px" />
After much speculation by collectors, this year's Comic Con Exclusive Pony has been officially revealed! She will be available at this year's San Diego Comic Con for $14.99 and on Hasbro Toyshop.
