Universal credit and UK benefits are leaving people hungry and without heat, this list may help you buy more food.

It's no secret that recently in the news and around your towns you are hearing the plights of people receiving universal credit and not being able to eat and adequately heat their homes. I've made a resource of places to get help online and unconventional ways to make your shopping money stretch.

The most important areas that I've heard people need help with is the cost of food and their utility bills, so please stay a while check out my list and see if anything works for you, some things can be done over and over again to help cut the cost and a few are one-offs.

Food for less

CREDIT AND LOAN OPTIONS

Credit available to those with bad credit or low incomes,also those in receipt of benefit

(Best choices of last resort credit in case needed (please do not get in a cycle of debt, please use as an emergency option only).

Child benefit loans

These are very much a last resort loan as you must decide if the payment upfront of £500 if you have 1 child or £1000 if you have two children, Check if it is manageable in your long term budget.

The process is you join a credit union online and then have the child benefit sent directly to the credit union you can do this by phoning the child benefit office . Once the first payment arrives at the credit union you can then apply for the loan which is not means-tested so you will be eligible as long as you are in receipt of child benefit.

It does vary between credit unions so please do look around first before deciding who to sign up with, some will not allow you to touch any of the child benefit payments and will do the loan at about 12 pounds per week repayment if for one child and the remainder of the child benefit will be placed in a svaing account with them that you can withdraw once the loan is paid off. There is another process where they take only the loan repayment amount per week and the remaining is withdrawable.

A tip if in a hurry and need the money quite urgently is if you receive the child benefit paid monthly when changing payment details to the credit union ask if payments can be changed to weekly meaning your loan will only take about a week to be paid instead of a month.

Benefit loans and advances are available.

Universal credit advances are available through the UC journal if eligible and a very much improved system for budgeting loans are very fast for those on legacy benefits, check out my post for updated info on the new budgeting loan process and timescales as they have greatly improved.

This is a buy now pay later service but in my opinion the best of the bunch, it requires a 25% payment on a purchase and you pay the remaining three payments bi-weekly. The reason why I chose this service is that it can be used in any shop, a sweetshop, Tesco etc by adding it to your Samsung pay or apple pay.

I find other providers limit where the credit can be used forcing customers to pay higher prices at shops they would not normally purchase from just to use the credit.

You can start with a modest credit limit of £100, mine was a bit higher but on repayment has significantly increased the limit, i have used it in the past to pay phone bills and groceries at Lidl or Iceland.I think they have a free £10 offer when you sign up, please remember this is credit so please use it very cautiously and sparingly if you're finding it hard to cope already on universal credit.

A quick message -

I did want to add a note, this list is also hopefully useful to those on legacy benefits who have had a hard time through the pandemic also, they did not receive the uplift as did universal claimants and have faced the same hardship, which is why I have included the budgeting loan information and my updated post detailing how it's changed.

How long does a DWP budgeting loan take to be processed - July 2021

If you are on a benefit that makes you eligible for a budget loan from the DWP then you may be aware of the new digital process which is making them easier and much less time-consuming.

The old process -

You would apply online and then wait for a text message saying it was received, this would take a few days to a week.
After 2 weeks on average maybe more you would get a letter with a loan offer for you to accept repayment terms and post back.
including delivery time and then processing by the DWP this stage would average another two weeks.

The process would usually average 4 weeks which I think made some people take out high-interest payday loans or sell items at places like cash converters and the like, budget loans were not seen to help in crisis getting people into further debt even though the DWP resource was there it was purely a timescale thing.

Whats changed with DWP budget loans in 2021

The timescale has been cut down to 7 days in most people cases unless further checks or verification of benefit entitlement needs to take place, the only other caveat is that if not processed in that time period it can be then sent through the above method but from people, I have spoken to they have an average of 5 days of getting the loan and a payment date.

The new process for DWP budgeting loan 2021

1.Apply online

2.you will have the option to be replied to by post or email if you want the faster route to suggest you choose to email.

3.you will get an email saying they are processing your loan application and a decision will be emailed within 7 days.

4.a decision will be sent to you, I have heard of people getting an offer the very next day as these are automated.

5.accept the offer they will be a link where you can accept it online.

6.you will then receive an email maybe the next day or up to three of four days which will give you a payment date normally three days from the email.

so there is no more time-consuming delivery and processing and waiting for reply slips and sending back acceptance and declaration that is all online now.

I hope this is helpful please leave your comments and timeframes to help others that may be looking for this information about DWP budgeting loans online in 2021 as a lot of the info seems outdated.

Also, please if in a crisis consider using the DWP budgeting loan resource instead of high-interest loans that push you further into debt or even loan sharks.

Hi guys the other day the little metal tiny disc fell off my phone I had long lost the power button before that but now there was nonway to turn it on again . Wrong !!!

I found everyone saying take it to the shop but arghhhh my phone was out of warranty . So I had an idea which I must admit don't normally work out well .

Everyone has that box in there room somewhere if their past phones once loved
now bricked , bootlooped, or just retired .

So I started to look for a backcase with NFC on it and voila there was one .

I then decided to rip off the gold parts the two little square bits and held them against the power button what was left that is , fantabulous it turned on .

So next I too jk the plastic power button out of a Samsung y and stuck the gold piece from the NFC to it with electric tape . I opened back case and added my new button works like a charm .
Hope this helps . At ur own risk may effect ur warranty. This is how I personally fixed it I'm not telling anyone else to try it.

The loan is normally sent to your bank the same day ,some unions do faster payments so money will reach the account in 15 minutes .

The only rules-

1.You must receive child benefit for a minimum of at least one child.

2.They take repayment over 50 weeks for £500 loan

3.The remainder of your child benefit is saved with them until the loan is paid off acting as collateral for the loan .

4.Once the loan is paid off the savings will be withdrawable and you can immediately start the process over .

For one child after paying the loan off at the fifty week mark you will have approximately 450 savings to withdraw.(Extra note) If more than one child the other portion can be withdrawn so you can still receive one child's portion of the child benefit while the loan is paid off,or you can choose to save that also giving you roughly 900 -1000 in savings .

Maximum loan 500 minimum loan 100, no credit check guaranteed approval .This is a
godsend to those on low incomes or benefits or just with a shocking credit profile, I cant recommend it highly enough.

From application to payment I would give it 10 days so apply head of time , but they can do it much faster if you phone them and its an emergency .

Ive been watching lots of films this Christmas so I thought id make a list for my readers feel free to add great films . Have a good year .

1.This is England - (film four production)

Should if not be internationally renown a gritty peice of drama that depicts the racism the issue's and the nostalgia of the 70s 80 on ,with drug use , themes dealing with paternal abuse , and social mindset.This is one of the realest grittiest pieces of drama i have seen with awkward scenes that tear at your stomach and leave you feeling unsettled to say the least.A cast that effortlessly delivers an authentic portrayal of the youth at the time.A great film with a great soundtrack.

2-Dead mans shoes - (film four production)

This is a chilling edgy film set in the Manchester outskirts a brother returning from the war comes back to avenge his mentally impaired younger brothers death.A story of a men on the brink of insanity caused by the guilt for his brothers death . Oneby one the perpetrator's of his brothers death are gruesomely killed . The difference with this film s the human aspect which i haven't seen done anywhere else quite effectively you are empathetic for the murderer and in the end scene the vulnerability and pure insanity leave you wanting to save hm which is such a twisted logic but beautifully achieved .

This film Will stay with you for years and years once you watch it its thought provoking ,and has an amazing ending that you would never expect.

28 days later /28 weeks later -

zombie horror flick s that are British to the core with a real urban feel and an abandoned London is something quite stomach turning for someone that walks those roads every day .The story is base don a monkey research unit being broken into by animal rights activists they release the infected monkeys who infect the population , a mail carrier awakes in hospital to roam the empty streets until found by another female survivor , they then meet a father and child and make there way through a savage england.

In 28 weeks later , the story focuses on a family unit beginning with a husband abandoning his wife and kids when under attack by the dead he leaves them to die the kids survive and find him but they think the mother is lost . When there mother is found and they are reunited she infects the father who begins an undead journey to find and kill his children its epic in a modest way with a eye gauging scene that you wont forget easily , both film are great so id suggest you watch them in sequel .

Creep -

Chilling horror based on a abandoned underground train station , now this really made me uncomfortable in a good way being a Londoner who's been at a central tube station for last train with only one other person on the platform and now looking in the dark tunnel is a different experience while i wait for my train. A lone female in London heads out late on the last train ,new yeas eve that's when here misfortune begins she starts to get stalked by a crazed killer who has been living there since they where born even more unwittingly he dresses as a doctor which is way more creepy .Be warned to see gruesome scenes of killings an attempt at surgery on one victim is horrifying and when i watched it first at the cinema everyone in the cinema looked like they wanted to throw up which is great horror right.

Deadset -

The big brother Odyssey turns a British institution that we all grew up with into a horror hat had the whole of England in the edge of their seat .great performances from Jamie Winston from kidulthood and riz Ahmed from shifty , among the undead are all the well know UK big brother faces including the host Davina which was a awesome cameo. Basically the premise is everyone outsides dead or undead and there locked in waiting to finally be overrun will they make it ? A truly wonderful display from the cast very authentic and great drama .

Trainspotting -

Welcome to the world of a carrot top Scott and his heroin induced swimming experience down his toilet , a true cult film with a devoted fan base one of the most intimate drug themed films Ive ever seen a real insight into the Edinburgh undercurrent of the time .A film that made Ewan mccregor the household name he is now .

AliG in the house-

Often overlooked but the funniest homegrown comedy yet , penned by Sacha Baron Cohen and performed hysterically this is a favourite.
