At just two weeks shy of turning two years old, you have clearly left your babyhood in the dust.

Gone is the marshy mellow that would lay in my chest and sleep for hours. No longer can I keep you in the stroller or highchair for more than 15 minutes. nor can I make you eat all the wholesome and nutrious meals that I planned. You have definately come into your own. Facing out. Ready to take on the world.

But I am not ready to eat your birthday cake this fall and not remember how awesome these two years were. I want to file away these magical moments. I want to remember the sweet smell of milk on her breath and the lavender scent of your lotion I used after your bath.

Today marks the kick off of the string of celebrations we are going to have for your big day.

Ooops! We did it again.

Yes.We did it again. Ok ok. I did it again. I am the mastermind. We school hopped again sometime back. And this time, I enrolled you in My Gym. It has always been my yearly resolution to hit the gym weekly. At the same time this year I have a new resolution to NOT be in denial. Therefore it has been quite obvious that I 'll never have the time to go to the gym in my near future. So now every Friday, MArshy and I will go to the gym. Marshy's gym.

Till today, my sis still cannot understand why am I spending these funds to send Marshy for 'enriched' and 'scheduled' play when you are already playing constantly at home. Haha. well. Maybe it is the socialisation, or the sportsmanship that I want you to pick up. Maybe I want sports to be part of life. Anyway, whatever, let's just enjoy and soak it up!

It's kind of fun when you get to experience the different acrobatics/gymnatics stunts there. The teachers are really good in coaxing and helping the little people do all the exercises.

Sometimes when I watch you pull yourself up on the monkey bars, or doing a somersault with the help of your teachers, it made me cry inside. I am so proud of you. I didnt know it was possible to be proud of such a small little person. But I am.

I also don't know who decided that a mommy could blink and her squishy newborn would be a mobile toddler. Time is moving too fast. Watching you roll and flipped mademe realised you are changing at the speed of light. You don't slow down when you discover your world.

The days have disappeared into nights in a orangey haze. We have been out and about and even said hi to the animals at the zoo.

We went to the zoo in the hottest of days but coolest of winds. Marshy had a silly smile on her face the whole day. The big broad beaming kind.

Because Daddy is bringing her to the Zoo.

This is Marshy's third visit to the zoo but this time as a little toddler who finds magic in every little thing. You are a cheery and chirpy one. You hardly nary a whine when you were melting like a butter under the hot sun.

You are a brave little one. You took the bananas and apples and fed them to the elephants without hesitation. But you didnt like the slimy feel when the elephant tried to lick you!

Hello Sunshine!

July is looking good. There are swim dates, little gym dates, zoo date and a trip to look forward to. For these reasons, July is one to love.

I have always wish I could give you more pool time even though it is a tiring task to get you in a swim suit. I think it is a little like trying to put two weeks of clothes into a overnight bag. But anyway, this month we get to swim again and again! So I lathered you up in sunscreen, blow up the baby raft and wiggled you into the swim suit and headed to the pool.

As soon as you saw the waters, you were kicking your legs and flailing your arms. You went down to the pool without any hesitation, leaned back and soaked it in.

Still having your favourite shades.

You grined and giggled. Kicked your feet and splashed your arms. Just enjoying yourself thoroughly in the waters.

All these times, I have never swim with you before. I have always been the photographer. Watching you playing happily and getting excited outside the pool and trying to capture all these favourite moments. But you have started to wave at me and asked me to join you. "Mama, come! Mama, swim! Mama, Fun!"

I will, I will, darling. Even if it means to suck in my post baby belly as I do it.

This July

Today you turned twenty three months old. Just a month away from being TWO! This led me to think about how we are going to celebrate that. Last year, we had a big bash(BIG in my context as birthday celebrations are foreign territory to me). So what are we going to do this year?

Whatever we decide to do this year, I hope when you grow up and you'd remember all the hoopla and fuss we make over you and how I always make a great deal from your birthdays. Yes, it is a day where narcissism and an "all about me" attitude is not only allowed but encouraged.

So this year, a different plan. For my little Marshy who is turning into this wonderful little girl who I so so love.

Till now, I still get this achy feeling in my heart. That feeling that says I love this little girl more than I could ever imagined. That incredible love soaked heart of mine still leaps with an indescribable rhythm when she's in my arms.

Playdate Day

Marshy has been busy. Another wonderful playdate at the museum to be remembered. It seems so long ago but the happy memory lingers. Everything seemed illuminated at the museum that day. We had so much fun with Tory and Trudy and their mummies (missing Julius here because he was late due to his naptime)

This is my first time to the museum too. We are 2 curious mummy and daughter exploring the Singapore museum with wonderful company. We are supposed to be going for the Children's Interative Festival but we were one week late but neverthless, we still had fun. Fun is fun with the right company regardless of where you are.

I love the way you kids recognise each other although we dont meet that often and it melts my heart to see you girls hug and kiss spontaneously and play hand in hand in the most comfortable of ways.

Everyday should be a playdate day.

I have been tardy on the writing front. No words on the blog. I was busy and at the end of the day, I was just too fuzzy-brained to write. But we met up with your baby friends and their mummies yesterday and had great fun catching up. It made me realised I have yet to blog about our last playdate some time ago. I need to help us crystalise these beautiful memories to remind ourselves of the fun we had.

Yeah. This time we went to the airport (You read it right! Airport again) with Julius and Trudy and their mummies. The mummies had coffees and the babies had bites and loads and loads of fun and laughter. The lushly carpeted floors were their playground. The kiddos were rolling, running and spinning away in merry circles. Insanely carefree.

I hope I dont have to deal with your post playdate withdrawal blues.

Till the next date, I really can't wait.

This is your favourite lullaby. And I used to sing it to you blindly and thinking what a dumb and meaningless lullaby until one day. I started to understand and feel deeply for the song. This lullaby expresses the love and the need within the mother to provide for you and not wanting you to be deprived.

I want to give you the world.

Today I am going to let out a secret - YOu have a horrendous amount of toys. It was endless. If you spend 10 minutes playing on one toy, you cannot finish playing everyone of them in one day. My mom your grandma has given up nagging. I have gotten used to the looks of astonishment on visitors' faces and with most shaking their heads in disbelief and ime oblivious of the comments about me setting up a toy rental business.

Yeah this is daddy and mamma's joint efforts. Our common weakness since the day you were born. And I blame it to the fact that we are strong advocates of learning through play. And more play.

So check this out. Just a prelude-

A pirate ship we lugged back from Melbourne last year. It is something that I would like to have if I was a kid!

Twenty Two months this Month

I am hating myself today. And I feel like the lousiest mummy ever exist, Marshy is turning 22 months old today yet this mummy is at work. And is missing her like crazy. The hours felt like eternal. And I am hating it.

I am sitting through a management meeting but thinging oif your cheekiest smile when you are doing your barney dance. You should be having your bath now while this tall Dutch man claded in a grey business suit was doing his presentation. I think about your soap slicked body and wet hair framing your face sitting in the baby tub, contented to soak in with your bath toys. Then every minute or so you would look up at me and say: mama! with a smile.

I raced home with a longing heart and felt like I missed so much of you. But I know you save the sweetest smile and loudest chuckles for me. But I miss you so much I want to cry. I know, this mama, so needy.

Marshy is always a girlie girl. Look at how you feed your bear of the day.

I love you, Marshy. The way you love your bear bear.

Babies really do grow up! I need to capture everything in pictures and writing and most importantly capture these moments in my heart so that the beauty of being your mommy at every stage of your development can stay with me forever.

Marshy has always been very interested in music and musical instruments. Singing and dancing is what you do everyday. You have been asking for a piano ever since you attended playclub when you saw the teachers playing the keyboard. But I have been procrastinating the plan of getting you one for the longest time. Thinking that it is going to end up another one of your toys.

One fine day while we were watching a musical show, you got up from your chair and walked straight to your old FP keyboard and then pulled your potty along. YOu sat down on the potty and started pretending to play the piano.

After that episode, Daddy went to Toyrus and bought you your first piano. A real looking grand piano! Now you sit at the piano and play while commanding me: Mama sing! Mama Dance!

ET Phones Home

We are a movie loving family. Daddy and I used to go for late night movies very often (pre keri time). ANd even now, we still watch lots of DVDs. And we love watching replays of our favourite shows. We made efforts to catch replays of some classics on HBO. And some time back, we managed to catch ET- The extra Terrestrial again together with Marshy after so many years.

If you have watched ET before, you'd be familiar with the following scenes when ET was wrapped in a towel.

And guess what did I see when I was tucking you in that night?

Did they say role playing is one of the most important kinds of imaginative play for toddlers? Well, you definitely excel in this area.

You wrapped yourself up in your blue blanket and sat very still for a long time -pretending to be ET.

Finally you turned and looked up at me and said: Mama, Baby Phones Home!

This cloud of Sadness

It has been a year since she left. As this day approaches, I dont know how it will be for me here on earth. It 's like I have this cloud hanging over my head and all of a sudden the sadness starts raining down on me.

Just one little peek into heaven, is all I am asking for today. I just want to know how's she doing in heaven. Is she playing majong with all the angels? Is she lonely? If you just let me look for a moment, to catch a glimpse of her smiling and kind face, I promise I wont try to take her away. I know, she 's in a better place. Just one little peek into heaven. Today, Marshy is officially a proud owner of a spectacular fire engine red sports car! It is an early birthday gift from Daddy. It seems that Daddy has a To Have list that evolves with your age and stage in life. But these two don't usually go hand in hand in your case. You are often a little faster in your milestones (just like the sizes of all your clothes)

This car is for age 3 and above and I was initially a little hesitant. But my worries were unfounded. You have no problems handling this new gadget and manoeuvre like a pro.

You drove and drove and drove. Stopped and waved with a big smile on your face. You found delight in every hue and turn. Such a lovely lovely drive on this idyllic afternoon.

Just days before Daddy has to leave for his business trip in Germany, Marshy had a bug bite on her left eye lid. The eye was so swollen. Big and red and fiery.

but you amaze me with your tenacity You don't let the discomfort hobble you. not even the swell that affects your sight. You continued to sing and dance. Without a care in the world.

You squeezed your Bear bear and yourself into Daddy's luggage bag and sang: Row, row, row your boat. Gently down the stream..... Merrily, merrily...

Marshy announced to me: "Mama, baby and bear bear sit airplane with Daddy!" and tried to pack yourself and bear bear into the bag!

Daddy was away for 5 days and although you didn't tell me, I know you missed him and wondered where is he? . You are always very fond of daddy, not because he bought you all the fanciful clothes and shoes or the latest toys from Toyrus. You missed daddy because he makes you chuckle inside out.

Old Macdonalds had a farm

Daddy brought us here some months ago but you were not ready to enjoy the place. And this time we revisited this place and you love it. Daddy has always wants to instill values of respect and love towards animals in you. Now as a toddler and equip with your increasing interest and explosive knowledge of animals, this is the best time to bring you here.

Last time, we came here as visitors and this time, you were busy feeding fish and fluttering around showing me the rabbits, ducks, turtles just like you have known them forever.

"Mama, duck duck quacks! Mama, rabbit hop hop hop! Mama, fish eat bread... Mama tortise where? Where tortise? Mama rabbit sleeps! Mama, look! Birds Fly!" My Marshy couldnt stop talking and jumping up and down excitedly.

And then I saw it. The ducks are not just ducks, fishes not just fishes, rabbits are not just rabbits. To you, all the animals you know in Old Macdonald's Farm had come alive!

And I couldnt stop smiling . I am just glad taht I am not too busy, too hurried or too distracted to see all this in your eyes.

And I couldnt stop smiling at the wonder of our ordinary life.

Work starts proper for me next week. My plate is full with orientations, training and business trip in the pipeline. SO to make up any potential loss of Marshy and mummy time in the coming days, we were out most of the time. Breathing in the mall, cafes in the airport and soaking in the light buzz of the weekday crowd.

You have always been a dream to hang out with. Even more so these days. Today is one of those impromptu outings when we decided to drop into Ikea for a lazy afternoon.

We had a glorious day. I skipped the stroller and we walked. Sometimes, hand in hand. Most times, you ran loose. But stopping to wait for me and couldnt stop smiling. We had so much fun and finally decided to lounge out at the cafe. But you were so tired out and fell asleep while munching on your spaghetti!

In the end, we left with me carrying you sound asleep in my arms and giving up all the items we picked up together ealier. My hands are full with you and the wonderful memories we created together.

Such a happy happy afternoon.

Twenty-One and Counting

It's strange where time goes. Tell me it's just not me. Oh time, please slow down. Marshy is celebrating TWENTY ONE months old. I thank my lucky star s that it's not 21 years old. I havn't have enough of you, my baby.

I love seeing you sing, dance and read and do so many fun and exciting things. You are speaking so well these days. Mostly intelligible and holding conversations with me. In your own time, baby.

You amazed us with your learning capability. You count your numbers, sing the lyrics of all the songs you love, you demonstrated how well you know your phonics by singing the ABC song from A-Z and you even recognised all the shapes from your toy box.- Circle/ square/ Triangle/ Oval/ diamond.......I am proud that you are learning well but nothing beats the way you curl your fat little fingers around mine. The way you break into the most cheeky of smiles. The way you say- I love you , mama in the most melodious voice and kissed and kissed and kissed me. On my left cheek, on my right cheek and on my lips.

You made me faint with love 21 months ago. You still do.

Stay happy, keep dancing, baby. Happy twenty one months old!

Overnight Celebration

To celebrate Daddy's birthday this year, we checked into the Swissotel Hotel over the weekend. We couldn't squeeze in a holiday as Daddy is always so busy. But... anyway.

After checking in at the lobby, we headed up to our room on the 37th floor. When I opened the door for you, you peeped in suspiciously before following Daddy into the room. After walking up and down surveying the bathroom and the magnificent view we had from our window, you made yourself very at home on the king sized bed.

After lazing in the room for some time, we went made it out of the door and wandered around. Shopping is a must and getting new toys for you (Again!) before heading to dinner. It felt good to be able to take our own sweet time and not worry about schedules.

We had dinner at Fruit Paradise Cafe because Daddy wants his favourite Fried Ebi curry rice and the tarts on display looked too good to give them a miss. So we had Japanese rice and Marshy had ramen and we shared a yummy chocolate banana tart for dessert.

Then we headed back to the hotel to laze. You were so mesmerised by the night view from our balcony that you just stood there and stare at all the cars, lights and the Ferry wheel. And the next morning, you insisted in having your breakfast next to the window.

Surprisingly, you went to bed earlier than I expected. I guess my darling Marshy wanted to give this exhausted mummy a break and some time to relax and enjoy myself too. Or perhaps you knew we were going swimming the next morning!

The two days passed quickly. We had fun. It was as awesome as holiday can get without leaving the country. It was really a welcome break. And I am actually looking forward to our upcoming real holiday.

You finally went swimming. With Daddy that is. In the winking waters. You squealed and you flapped. My little sunshine with the scarlet glow, showing off your juicy thighs in its chubby glory.

What is swimming without a taste of water? You had multiple gulps of mineral water and we laughed it off. Swimming is definately more fun with daddy. We must try to do it more often because Marshy loves it so. We must. We must. For Marshy.

This is the second time you are celebrating Daddy's birthday. And it seems we are going to be stuck with Barney cake for some time. Everytime I ask you : What cake shall we get for, baby? The answer is always: Barney Cake! Barney Cake!

So we got a Barney cake for Daddy and Daddy's precious. You cant wait till I got the cake out for you to blow out the candles together with Daddy. You share a special bond with daddy. A really special one. You are really a daddy's girl, alright.

Last month I got upset with myself for missing the Borders Fair at Singapore Expo. For as long as I can remember, I seldom missed Book Fairs. Because I love to read. And I love how reading makes my mind work. I love how it transports me right smack into someone's life and thoughts. It made me feel alive. An escapade from my own life.

Despite how much I love reading, I hadnt been making it my priority. Life had swung out of control and I was barely keeping my head above the waters. Therefore, I have not been setting a good example for you. Again, I stew in my guilt.

Then I decided enough is enough. I whisked you up and brought you to the library despite feeling exhausted from work. Well, anyway the fatigue that has been constantly absorbing me cannot be any worse. So we arrived at the library and I spent the next few hours picking up behind you while you amused yourself non stop with all your finds.

I am so glad we made this trip to the library. I felt rejuvenated even after all the running after you. The rest of the things in my life didnt just go away, they still swirled on but I feel more balanced now. Ready to embrace life again. A date with you is definately a perfect remedy for a work-battled soul and body.

It's FUN In the Night Garden

After almost 2 years of being a mummy, I have come to realise that babies change their minds fast. Without any warning or signs to look out for. You used to love eating Babymelts and Mueller Little stars yogurt. And this foolish mummy stock up heaps of them so that you 'll never run out of supplies. But one day, you woke up and decided your palette has changed and looked at the once 'Yummy' snacks with disgust.

Once upon a time, you were so impressed and besotted by Barney. To my dismay.You live and breath Barney and again mommy bought Barney pillow, Barney cups, Barney DVDs, Barney books and the list goes on.

And history has to repeats itself.

One day, you just stopped watching Barney. And now you are obsessed with Daisy. And I mean OBSESSED. Daisy, Daisy... makka pakka... iggle.. from the UK programme- In the night Garden.

But I am silently happy that you have finally fallen in love with the show. It is one of the shows that I approve and like as well. (OMG. Did I say APPROVE?) But I am just not sure how long is this interest going to last. And this time round, darling. I am restricting myself from getting all the toys, stickers, products related to the show. Not to mention that they are not easily accessible in Singapore. I have to order from the on line stores.

This show is about a community of toy characters in a magical place call the night garden that exists between waking and sleeping in a child's imagination. How sweet and cool can that be?These characters are so lovable and the whole show is fill with bright colours, flowers and imaginary figures that weaves a love of innocence and purity. It may not be the usual educational children programmes that are bursting with educational values. But I love it for its simpleness, creativeness and its own sense of humour. I hope that would impact on your imagination powers and give you the capacity to be creative and imaginative. And most importantly, In the Night Garden is about fun and inspiring.

Zoophonics

So I have been doing a bit of school hopping. Instead of looking seriously for a preschool for you next year, I have been trying out some highly rated enrichment classes. Let me recollect- Kindermusik, GUG, LNT, Staccato, JG, Josiah Monstessori, Zoophonics. And the search goes on. Hoping to find one that meet my expectations. And I am sticking with Zoophonics for the next term so I guess it's not so bad.

You started Zoophonics some time back. It is a bilingual class and I am switching you to the English class next term if we are still around. So, you know what I mean. although the Chinese class is only about 30 mins, it is a waste of time. The teacher is hilarious, pardon me but it's true. She speaks funny. (And no, she is not a Chinese Native.It's not her accent but her pronunciation) and dances funny. Trust me, I am really not trying to be rude here but if you ask me, it is really funny but I am taking it with a pinch of salt and trying my best not to laugh out loud.

Today was a little wet, but not drippy enough to skip Zoo. We are going to the Zoo... zoo....zooo!

Twenty months twinkled by but something remains the same. You are woven into my heart. Milestones are piling up like bricks in the bucket. And I sure hope this is the last month when you grow out of your fit throwing.

We have had a bunch going on lately that I must pause to remember. Remember to take more pictures of you and etch these pictures and thoughts into this piece of cyber memory.

You have been revisiting your 'old' toys recently. And this day, you decided you wanted to get into your exersaucer which you had outgrown for many months. And I feel you are just alittle too big for it. But what Keri wants, Keri gets. So in you go and we all had a good laugh about it. You looked hmmm.. out of place. But you were unfazed. And played in your long forgotten toy for a good hour and refused to come out.

But amidst all the laughter, I got abit teary eyed. I cant stand it when you grow up so darn fast.

OMG! Look at your chubby arms!

I think you are growing up to be a pixie than a princess. That's fine with me. You inspire me endlessly as I now see the world through your eyes.
