Terrain: Forest

So we all know that Treeman like to surf with a forest. So it has become common behavior for a WE player to place his extra forest in front of a Treeman. Then in first movement phase walking into the middle of the forest and then move the forest.
Erm.. yes... so here is my special made forest:

There are 4 removeable parts. Removeable parts are great for gameplay.

Mind the owl!

All four parts have magnetized bases out of card board.

Dryads

As mentioned before I become a fan of forest spirits in birch aspect. Hence I painted a unit of dryads as birches. I love them! The cute bare breasted girls is a conversion from an Ral Partha Witch Elves set.

Treekin

Actually I started some dryads before I finished the Birch Tree Man . However the unit was completed after that one.
Later I started another 3 Treekin + some Dryads.

Now with 8th edition we are happy to run 6 Treekin so these can go to the back rank. The first rank will consist of this three fellows:

First - sorry for that bad picture. But the experts among you will look at it and know which model I used for conversion :)
It is a simple conversion - just cutting of the arm, replace it with hammer-arm from mordheim sprue and add some puffyness with green stuff

I still consider this color scheme for my nobles.

Empire - color study

So I started an Empire army... back it the old days and not a single mini painted. I painted that marksman to test my alternative Averland Scheme - White/Yellow with black as 3rd color.

As background I used the freely downloadable paper model from Fantasy-Cutouts. It is a relative difficult model and much time consuming.

Ricco's Republican Guard

In the same timeframe I painted Ricco's Republican Guard. These models are really awesome! These are the best plate armors, which GW ever produced.

Elite vs Special

I was told that in WHFB the special units are called special units and not elite units like in WH40k.
Well... in German translation it is both elite. Hence I continue tagging them as 1337

Spearmen (Eternal Guard)

So the next thing were 2 Spearmen test models. 4 years later I completed a unit of 16. When it is finished (in a few years) they will be 25 with full command.

The shields are jade green with some decals. There is only one shields with hand painted trees in this unit. And this happened due to a broken decal :)

So even within a single unit you can see how the painting skill improves. To show the variety of a unit of clones I photographed all identical models as a group.

just in case you have missed this wonderful face... sometimes you are lucky!

Wardancers with shields

In 5th edition the wardancers were able to change their 2nd weapon with a shield. So I made a unit with shields. Sadly they look terrible. The conversation is ok but the paintjob is pretty bad. I don't like them. No further comments from my side.

So, now I showed you almost every mini which I have painted before my long pause.
After Treeman and Glade riders I started another unit of wardancers, a scratch build chariot (yes - a woodelves chariot with 4 steeds!). However the next complete model was a mage. He is a Ral Partha miniature of an "developing character set". These sets were made for RPGs and developing (0 leveling) characters. I completed "level one"

My first Treeman

After that horses (have you seen the terrible mold lines? I saw them first during painting) I needed something real powerful! So what is almost never missing in an Woodelves Army? - Yes, a big fat living tree. I dunno remember when he was finished. It think it was already the year 2000.

I was used to place my tree-friend within my big forest which you can see on the picture. I remember once my enemy forgot him because he did not see him amongst the other trees. Well, his blood demon ate him anyway later in game.

Glade Riders

Building up an army I added some more power - cavalry. These were painted 1999. I actually ever liked to have a nice large woodelves cavalry army. The 5th edition fluff for these was nice. They were on par with bretons! (fluffwise)

Maybe I add some better photos later. But I wanna push this blog forward because I wanna show you my latest creations :)

As you see, I used the nice decals on the shields. The shields have a pretty simple wooden look. I just used bleached bone (the old one!) as base and added some (old!) flesh wash to get the grain. I don't like it when people start to paint wood grain in stripes. Think of these lines when you scale the 28mm model to a 2m tall elf. Same technique on spears. The metal parts were painted black -> drybrushed jade green -> drybrushed bronze (or something like that) -> dry gold for final shimmer.

The champion has a really nice black horse. I haven't a good photo of it. His spear broke once after it was painted. So some color chipped of, too. Therefore I added the green rings as decoration - especially around the grip.
I also have a photo of the standard bearer and his white horse. BEWARE!
The next miniature is ugly. Protect yourself. You may fall of the chair due to loud laughter.

On some of the pictures you can see parts of a barded horse. That one belongs to the General. I painted the horse at the same time. The General itself is not really finishedyet. So no pictures from him at this time.

Wardancers

uh... I haven't blogged for a while. I recently made some great progress with my miniatures. Anyway, my goal is to blog all my minis in the order I painted them...

So after I painted that archers I continued with some elite warriors

here is a detail picture. You may recognize, that I bended legs and arms to get different poses.

A bit later I added the blue champion. That's actually the best paintjob I did until then. Unfortunately I haven't a better photo shot, yet. The Blades are made of bones. In 5th ed. there were blades made from oger's bone as regular magic item. The base should have the shape of a pentagram, however it looks more like a star.

After painting the Lizards I decided playing Elves. I always loved Elves especially in the German RPG "Das Schwarze Auge" ("The Dark Eye" for my international readers). This was '98 I think.
However the high elves looked foreign to me. The Wood Elves (as they looked in the 4th and 5th edition) were more familiar to me. Only the Punks aka Wardancers weren't my favorites. Hence I got a box of these cheap terrible plastic unipose archers. The Champion was a gift from the shop owner where I buyed all my stuff. He just started selling Warhammer (more or less) and got it from GW for free. It's a metal waywatcher model. Back in these times I thought every regiment should have a banner. Well...
Actually this is one of my worst paint jobs I did ever. However I tried something like dipping - but I used a brush and washes....

Now I wrote enough boring stuff from my beginnings. Here are my Woodies from the 90s (please don't laugh):

I got a increasing number of visits for this blog. Sure there is just a single reason: I'm part of a bit more modern type of classic web ring - The WFB Allies.
I greet all readers of WFB Allies and would like to explain my blog which is a bit different.

I started Warhammer in 1997. Well... actually I started more or less frequently gaming 2008. In the 90's I played less than 10 games. However I continued buying stuff and painting... However - to be honest - I rarely found time. So this blog is created to show my slow but continuous progress in getting my stuff painted. I think it's pretty nice to see someone's progress in becoming a good painter. The special of this blog is, that I really want to show you ANY mini I painted ever in chronological order. I don't know exactly where the Woodelves where that I painted after the skinks. Hence the Update Rate of this blog is pretty low. However this reflects my painting speed ;)
