His email respond was prompt and complete which is why we chose ANET over many others. As we were unfamiliar with the culture and environment, we had many questions. But kudos to Devi, he never hesitated to answer and clarified all our questions. <br /><br />We had one of the most memorable trip and just catching a glimpse of the mighty Sagarmartha was an unforgettable experience. The expedition went very smoothly as per planned, aided by our experienced and friendly guide Kumar. From the start, he has been very helpful, always keeps a look out for us and ensure our stay is as comfortable as possible. He takes great photos as well and is a warm and funny guy. We thoroughly enjoyed his companionship and he must be one of the best guides here.<br /><br />It was a very well-organized trip and we were even given the flexibility to customize it based on our needs. Thanks to our host Devi for his warm hospitality and dinner treat where we had a chance to sample his wife’s delicious home-cooked meal. The only regret I had was that our trip was too short. If we had another 1-2 days extra, we might have had the chance to trek all the way to Tengboche to visit the monastery. <br /><br />But overall I would rate it a very successful and excellent trip. I’m glad that we had made the right choice and chosen ANET. Thank you for the wonderful experience! See you again for ABC.<br /><br /><br />http://www.nepalecotrekking.com/<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script language="Javascript" src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript><iframe width=180 height=120 frameborder=0 src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550/html"></iframe></noscript></div>Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13284328696115858132noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065857191361782682.post-32696020823265946142013-04-08T11:30:00.002+08:002014-10-25T11:12:25.615+08:0010 Days Everest Panorama TrekWe'll be doing this in 3 weeks time :)<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.nepalecotrekking.com/page_gallery/30everest_panorama_trek.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.nepalecotrekking.com/page_gallery/30everest_panorama_trek.jpg" /></a></div><br />Everest panorama Trek Route is one the delightful trekking trail in Everest region. It is always good to be well prepared.<br /><br />The following are recommended to achieve acclimatization:<br /> <br />1. Ascend Slowly. Because it takes time to acclimatize, your ascension should be slow. Taking rest days will help.<br /> <br />2. Do not overexert yourself. Mild exercise may help altitude acclimatization, but strenuous activity may promote HAPE.<br /> <br />3. Take slow deliberate deep breaths.<br /> <br />4. Climb high, sleep low. Climb to a higher altitude during the day, then sleep at a lower altitude at night.<br /> <br />5. Eat enough food and drink enough water while on your climb. It is recommended that you drink from four to five liters of fluid per day. Also, eat a high calorie diet while at altitude, even if your appetite is diminished.<br /> <br />6. Avoid tobacco, alcohol and other depressant drugs including, barbiturates, tranquillizers, sleeping pills and opiates. These further decrease the respiratory drive during sleep resulting in a worsening of altitude sickness.<br /> <br />7. If you begin to show symptoms of moderate altitude sickness, don't go higher until symptoms decrease. If symptoms increase, descend.<br /> <br />8. If you do not feel well, do not try to pretend you are fine and mask your symptoms and say you feel OK. Only with accurate information can best treat you.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script language="Javascript" src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript><iframe width=180 height=120 frameborder=0 src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550/html"></iframe></noscript></div>Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13284328696115858132noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065857191361782682.post-15289911538417218542013-03-29T13:01:00.003+08:002013-03-29T13:02:28.503+08:00Itinerary for Nepal Trekking TripLooking forward to our Nepal trekking trip in 4 weeks time. :)<br /><br /><br />Flying route:<br />PEN → KUL → KTM → LUA → KTM → KUL → PEN<br /><br />PEN → KUL → PEN (by AirAsia)<br />KUL → KTM → KUL (by AirAsiaX)<br />KTM → LUA → KTM (by TaraAir)<br /><br />Itinerary in Brief:<br /><br />Day 1 : Penang (PEN) → KL-LCCT (KUL) → Kathmandu (KTM)<br />Day 2 : Kathmandu (KTM) → Lukla (LUA) → Sagarmatha National Park<br />Day 3 : Sagarmatha National Park<br />Day 4 : Sagarmatha National Park<br />Day 5 : Sagarmatha National Park<br />Day 6 : Sagarmatha National Park → Lukla<br />Day 7 : Lukla (LUA) → Kathmandu (KTM)<br />Day 8 : Kathmandu (KTM) → KL-LCCT (KUL) → Kuala Lumpur<br />Day 9 : Kuala Lumpur → KL-LCCT (KUL) → Penang (PEN) <div class="blogger-post-footer"><script language="Javascript" src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript><iframe width=180 height=120 frameborder=0 src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550/html"></iframe></noscript></div>Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13284328696115858132noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065857191361782682.post-1775010933640747892011-07-25T23:19:00.000+08:002011-07-25T23:19:43.892+08:00Krabi Cycling and Rock Climbing AdventurePlease excuse my laziness for not updating my blog as often as I had liked. But then again, I haven't been to any adventurous trip for quite some time till Krabi lately.<br /><br />Had been planning for this trip for quite some time but just had the opportunity to do it since my packed schedule allowed. Managed to burn some calories and YES! am feeling 2-3kgs lighter now.<br /><br />This was a short 4D/3N trip and much time was spent on the road. 8 hours journey back and forth from Penang to Krabi really took its toll on me but I survived it. Cramped like a sardine inside one of those vans (mini bus), it's gonna take a hell of a good trip to make it all worth-while.<br /><br />My first day was supposed to be relaxing and spending time familiarizing myself with Krabi town, visiting some nearby attractions like the Tiger Cave temple, Wat Kaew, Vogue and the walking street. But it was more than what I had expected as the 1,237 steps up to the top of the hill at Tiger Cave temple was quite a challenging one. <br /><br />The second day was a full day Krabi Eco Cycle tour. It was a new experience for me to cycle and visit a place at the same time. But indeed it was really a good and cheap way to visit places and get a cardiovascular workout at the same time. We visited a traditional latex processing house, the emerald and blue pool at Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve, had wonderful Thai lunch then end our journey at the Hot Spring Waterfall at Klong Thom district. All in all it was about 20km of cycling and plenty of chances to cool-off by dipping in those pools except the blue one. Our guide Wut was very proficient in English and had provided many insights to these places.<br /><br />The next day was the highlight of the trip as I had my first hand at outdoor rock-climbing. What better place to get a first taste than Krabi, the world renowned place for rock climbing. As it turned out, rock climbing is actually quite a graceful sport, relying more on balance and leg muscles rather than the strength of arms as many perceived. But of course a great upper body strength and strong fingers would give you an edge in this competitive sport. I learnt a few terms as well like "climbing", "climb on", "falling", "down", "tension", "slack" which are frequently uttered between the climber and his belayer. Wonderful time, wonderful experience and I can't wait for more. I'll get the 6A next time.<br /><br />Look out for King Climbers!<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; We decided to do something different but the thought of cliff-hanging via ferrata seems quite disturbing at first. I've seen photos of people attempting it and it was pretty scary at a glance and there was the weather too. Gutsy winds and freezing temperatures would surely add to the excitement if not exhilaration of this attempt. </div><div> </div><div>So we reached Laban Rata at noon and made our way to the Pendant Hut for the Via Ferrata registration and familiarization session. We were introduced to our friendly trainer Joe who had also gave us the compulsory briefing and demo session. There were 2 routes to choose from, the shorter "Walk the Torq" and the longer and much challenging "Low's Peak Circuit". My cousin Jeremy just grabbed the form and signed it without hesitation while the 3 of us read through the fine prints. Walk the Torq or Low's Peak Circuit, we decided on the latter eventually. Traversing the mountain via Walk the Torq normally takes 2-3hrs while Low's Peak Circuit would usually take 5-6hrs, depending on fitness levels. Both routes eventually meet towards the ending section. We knew what we were up for but at the same time it just gives us extra impetus to reach Low's peak which was our next challenge on hand. Praying hard that the weather would be kind to us as bad weather would definitely force the Via Ferrata off. Refunds are provided for bad weather but not withdrawals. We were told that once we were hooked up to the harness, there was no turning back. </div><div> </div><div>We reached Low's peak at about 5:30am just in time for the sunrise 30mins later. The cold weather and gustling wind didn't allow us to stay for too long as we made our journey down to the meeting point of Via Ferrata some 30mins away. Waiting for us was our trainer Joe who gave us final instructions on the harnessing methods and safety measures. There were only 3 groups on that day including us. One group has just started their descend while the other one miss the cut-off time at 7:30am. </div><div> </div><div>We were quite intimidated at first hanging by the edge with only ropes and harnesses. We were hanging 3,000m above sea level and everything below looks like an abyss. Of course it is very safe and we were hooked to the harness at all times but the thought of falling keeps us at our feet all times. We were 100% focussed on our task of swapping the harness to the next line as we made our way down. It was totally an awesome experience. My top highlights of the route are the suspension bridge at 3,600 asl, the mini jungle, the 2 & 3 tight-rope walks and the vertical cross-over. </div><div> </div><div>The best part of the Via Ferrata is anyone and everyone can do it without any technical mountaineering experience. You can test your limits without jeopardizing your personal safety. You just need determination, guts and a lot of adrenaline. What I loved about it is the photos and memories I brought back from this experience which I can share with the whole world. Enjoy the photos. So far I had avoided eye contact with them and did not show any signs of fear, and they had stayed their distance. Have been to Langkawi countless times but all the trips were shopping and booze-themed trips without really exploring the nature side of the island. So the opportunity beckons when Boon shared with me his itinerary and I promptly booked my flight. <br /><br />Day 1 <br /><br />Finally arrived at ~2030 in the evening after countless reschedules by Fireflyz. Initially our flight was scheduled to depart at 1730 but it got re-timed 2-3 times and finally ended up departing at 2000. It was around 2130 that we finally got to Pantai Cenang and settled down for dinner. Renting a car was not cheap at this time of the year as a poorly maintained manual Wira cost RM80. Dinner was only average at the much hyped Red Tomato Garden Cafe. Ordered the house-special tomato soup and 10" pizza but it was overly priced and tastes average. So I will give this a skip for future trips. <br /><br />We then check-into the White Lodge Chalet which is located along Pantai Cenang but is only accessible via a small private road. The room was spacious, tidy and clean, and at just slightly over RM50/pax, it was worth every penny.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx2pdMSE8I/AAAAAAAACdg/_S9ZRpQn3tQ/s1600/PB050044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx2pdMSE8I/AAAAAAAACdg/_S9ZRpQn3tQ/s320/PB050044.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">White Lodge Chalet, Pantai Cenang</td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx4WCHgJrI/AAAAAAAACdw/3MLM7KhGlZg/s1600/PB040001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx4WCHgJrI/AAAAAAAACdw/3MLM7KhGlZg/s320/PB040001.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Twin bed room with plenty of space</td></tr></tbody></table><br />The sky looked ominous and soon after it was raining heavily. We were slightly worried as there was the island hopping tour tomorrow morning.<br /><br />Day 2<br /><br />It was a good night's sleep but the weather was not too kind to us as the rain continued pouring and show no signs of ceasing. We prayed that the weather would be kinder to us as we decided to change the tour to the afternoon session. Fortunately the tour operator was flexible enough. Prices vary a lot for the tours and we were surprise some people were paying double when book directly through the hotel. So it is wise to look around as there are plenty of tour operators along the Pantai Cenang stretch. <br /><br />We made our way to Kuah town and visited the Wat Luang Phor Khoon followed by a private tour of the Dragon Fruit Farm by its friendly young operator. Too bad we missed out on the flower blossoming the night before. Amazingly, our prayers were answered after blessing from the Siam temple. Clouds started to be blown away and there were glimpses of the bright blue sky. It was a relief as the island hopping tour was able to proceed as planned.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx3QkhI_uI/AAAAAAAACdk/hl0ooELl9ZA/s1600/PB050013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx3QkhI_uI/AAAAAAAACdk/hl0ooELl9ZA/s320/PB050013.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wat Luang Phor Khoon, Kuah Town</td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx3ui8rg1I/AAAAAAAACdo/_uN4mMECG60/s1600/PB050032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx3ui8rg1I/AAAAAAAACdo/_uN4mMECG60/s320/PB050032.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A ripe Dragon Fruit with its thorny plant</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx3v62TMmI/AAAAAAAACds/EdgBji94fiI/s1600/PB050036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx3v62TMmI/AAAAAAAACds/EdgBji94fiI/s320/PB050036.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dragon Fruit Farm, Kuah Town</td></tr></tbody></table><br />At 2pm sharp, the tour van picked us up and accumulated other passengers on its way to the jetty. We were taken for a speed boat ride to Pulau Beras Basah, Pulau Singa and Pulau Daya Bunting. These islands were pretty much uninhabited and therefore has some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches. Watch out for the plastic-bag crazy monkeys as they often target visitors carrying them as it's associated with food. Luckily for me they did not attack as I was on my toes all the time. We made a longer stop at Pulau Daya Bunting to witness the famous "Lake of Pregnant Maiden" which is a short hike away. The lake is named so because of the overlooking mountain resembling the shape of a pregnant lady. Of course the famous legend that those unable to conceive will be able to after a dip in the lake. Before we knew it, the tour was nearing its end and there was a short stop to witness the eagle feeding at one of the islands.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx4vqUQjBI/AAAAAAAACd0/Jbn9rDED1nQ/s1600/PB050080.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx4vqUQjBI/AAAAAAAACd0/Jbn9rDED1nQ/s320/PB050080.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Speed boats hover at the beaches of Pulau Beras Basah</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx4ytZum4I/AAAAAAAACd8/MZyOqEkGi_U/s1600/PB050067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx4ytZum4I/AAAAAAAACd8/MZyOqEkGi_U/s320/PB050067.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pier at Pulau Beras Basah</td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx6UScFSjI/AAAAAAAACeA/zyY4zGm2Zic/s1600/PB050103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx6UScFSjI/AAAAAAAACeA/zyY4zGm2Zic/s320/PB050103.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">People swimming and relaxing at the Lake of Pregnant Maiden</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx6WABlqjI/AAAAAAAACeE/o7sysrBpYk4/s1600/PB050099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx6WABlqjI/AAAAAAAACeE/o7sysrBpYk4/s320/PB050099.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Boats parked along the pier at Pulau Daya Bunting</td></tr></tbody></table><br />We were dropped back to our chalet just about evening time right before dinner. So we decided to try the famous Japenese food here "Unkaizan" and so happened it was fully booked. Keeping with the Asian theme, we then decided to try the Korean food "Han Kook Kwan" and it did not disappoint. Hidden at a deserted complex nearby the airport is this gem of a Korean restaurant. There are some construction work going on at the complex which seems like an indoor water park. Maybe due to its location, there weren't many patrons and the visitors were mainly limited to regulars, mostly Korean expats. Tried the ala-carte menu and the food was delicious especially the pork dish from the separately presented "secret menu". And keeping up with the tradition, all appetizers are served bottom-less which is why I regretted over-dosing on Kim chi....breakkkkk!!!!<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx7JSfmLWI/AAAAAAAACeI/CiUfu6PEjww/s1600/PB050115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx7JSfmLWI/AAAAAAAACeI/CiUfu6PEjww/s320/PB050115.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Han Kook Kwan, Padang Matisrat</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx7K5oxIRI/AAAAAAAACeM/ttQU7l3u3Uo/s1600/PB050116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TOx7K5oxIRI/AAAAAAAACeM/ttQU7l3u3Uo/s320/PB050116.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Han Kook Kwan, Padang Matisrat</td></tr></tbody></table><br />To be continued....<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script language="Javascript" src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript><iframe width=180 height=120 frameborder=0 src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550/html"></iframe></noscript></div>Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13284328696115858132noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065857191361782682.post-78956895417640130622010-11-19T11:36:00.001+08:002010-11-23T14:57:10.745+08:00Central Java Trip - Merapi, Borobudur, Prambanan, Dieng Plateu<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />Ha, this post seemed forever to come by but I just felt like it is the right time with the recent eruption of Mt Merapi. This trip was way back in July 2009 booked with Indonesia Journey. The package included the Merapi climb, Borobudor temple, Prambanan temple and free easy tour around Yogjakarta.<br /><br />Day 1 - Arriving from KL, we were greeted at the Adisutjipto airport by our friendly guides Yoga and Kido. We were whisked away to dinner and quickly settle down at the Delta Homestay. <br /><br />Day 2 - The next day, our tour begins at the <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Merapi%20National%20Park/">Merapi National Park</a>. Arriving early before other tourists, we made our way to the 3-storey platform tower where there are plenty of photo opportunities of Mt Merapi. It was just a 15 minute hike to the platform tower and couldn't even serve as a warm-up to our more challenging climb tomorrow.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Merapi%20National%20Park/P7131116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Merapi%20National%20Park/P7131116.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Platform Tower at Merapi National Park</td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />Soon after, we made our journey to <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Ketep%20Pass/">Ketep Pass</a>, a museum and educational centre of Mt Merapi. There is a volcano theater here where you will be treated to a 15 minute clip on the history and origins of Mt Merapi. Again there are plenty of photo opportunities here overlooking the mountain.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Ketep%20Pass/P7131137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Ketep%20Pass/P7131137.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">View at Ketep Pass</td></tr></tbody></table><br />After having lunch at the restaurant we proceed to the village of <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Selo/">Selo</a>. The weather at Selo was nice and cooling as the elevation was already quite high. We settled at the Bungalow Tersenyum or smiling bungalow. Fortunately it was equipped with a hot shower as the temperatures were getting lower come dusk. The climb was to start in the early morning at 2am so after having a satisfying dinner at the nearby stalls, we promptly called it a day. See my other post on <a href="http://mymountainadventures.blogspot.com/2009/10/mt-merapi-climb.html">Merapi Summit</a>.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Selo/P7131154.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Selo/P7131154.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New Selo - Starting point of climb</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Day 3 - The summit of Merapi (refer to my back post). After the successful climb, we gather back at the lodge and took our time to have a refreshing shower. The next grueling journey would take us to Borobudur where we reside at the <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Manohara%20Princess%20Resort/">Manohara resort</a> just next to it. It was a complete makeover of the lodge we were staying the day before. With 4-star facilities and a comfortable bed, its all we ask for after the Merapi summit. I could have spent another night there if not for our packed schedule.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Manohara%20Princess%20Resort/P7141389.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Manohara%20Princess%20Resort/P7141389.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">View at Garden of Manohara Princess Resort</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br />Watching the sunrise at <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/">Borobudur</a> is a unique experience not to be missed. At dawn and armed with a complimentary torch light from the resort, we made our way to Candi Borobudur which is just a short distance's walk away. You can feel the crowd growing and photographers jostling for the best spots as the time nears. It's just a magical occasion witnessing the sun rise over the horizon and every corner and angle of the Borobudur just seems so pleasing to the camera. After countless photos, we made our way back to the resort and have our breakfast, buffet-style. This was really an unforgettable experience.<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151439.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151439.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151473.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151473.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151475.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="79" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151475.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151512.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Borobudur/P7151512.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />And that's not it for Day 3, we made our way to <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/">Dieng Plateau</a> a mountain range few hours drive away. There we visited the Sikidang crater, Candi Arjuna, Telaga Warna and manage to witness a live pigeon race. The Telaga Well meaning colored well is known as such because of its green-colored lake. Just at this moment, the unthinkable happen. My camera battery ran flat and it was so unfortunate that I was without the spare battery either. Too bad but it's not all doom after all as there are still plenty of cameras from my group snapping around. The frigid weather did not allow us to stay longer than we wanted and we made our way to other attractions around the area. The smell of sulphur at Sikidang crater reminds me of the time at Mt Sibayak. It just smells like the stink bombs we used to play as kids.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/P7151577.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/P7151577.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Preparing for bird race at Dieng Plateau</td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/P7151563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/P7151563.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Candi Arjuna</td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/P7151601.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Dieng%20Plateau/P7151601.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hot Spring at Skidang Crater</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Day 4 - A visit to the <a href="http://s1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd375/yapshaun/Indonesia/Central%20Java/Prambanan%20Temple/">Prambanan temple</a> is a must while we're here. Mount Kinabalu, South East Asia’s highest mountain dominates in the background as competitors compete from dawn to dusk, and sometimes into the night to complete each day’s adventure be it on mountain bike, on foot or rafting down cold, magical rivers and through native villages. <br /><br />No prize money is offered for winners and each individual is expected to complete the event by crossing the finish line each day. <br /><br />Competitors can elect to compete in the full on adventure race/mountain bike race over 3 days or a 2 day ultra 60km trail run either solo or in a duo (duo not available for ultra 60km trail run).Teams are required to be self-sufficient and to compete by navigating with topographic maps and compass from check point to check point, as well as taking on the challenge of the natural jungle landscape and surrounding mountain ranges that dominate the West Coast of Sabah. <br /><br />Each year, the race directors look at new ideas and formats to ensure each year’s challenge is slightly different from the previous year’s event, ensuring varying difficulty and challenges for competitors who do return year after year to compete and to take on the challenge of completing an SAC.Teams are required to carry adequate food and water as well as a list of equipment on their mandatory kit list as they are transported to the starting location each morning and then back to their accommodations at the end of the day. <br /><br />Its the experince of a Sabah Adventure Challenge that makes competitors leave Sabah with experiences to talk about for years to come and memories of a challenge to last a life time having completed an adventure race covering 150 kilometers over three days. <br /><br />This is, the Sabah Adventure Challenge. The air was thick with the smell of sulfur. <br /><br />Two people died, but Priyadi Kardono of the National Disaster Management Agency said it was too early to say if the volcano was to blame. <br /><br />Sinabung last erupted in 1600, and officials acknowledged that they had not been monitoring the volcano because it had been dormant for so long. <br /><br />"The nearest monitoring post to Sinabung is Mount Merapi — around 400 kilometers (240 miles) to the southeast — so we were totally in the dark. We didn't know anything until it started rumbling," said Imam Simulingga, a government vulcanologist.<br />Related news<br /><ul><li> <a href="http://www.novinite.com/view_inpictures.php?picture_id=4381">A resident tries to escape from his village as Mount Sinabung spews clouds of ashes in the district of Tanah Karo ...</a><cite></cite> </li><li> <a href="http://www.mysinchew.com/node/44197?tid=37">Rumbling volcano keeps Indonesians in shelters</a><cite></cite> </li><li> <a href="http://wenatcheeworld.com/news/2010/aug/31/thousands-flee-indonesian-volcano/">Thousands flee Indonesian volcano</a></li></ul><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script language="Javascript" src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript><iframe width=180 height=120 frameborder=0 src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550/html"></iframe></noscript></div>Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13284328696115858132noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2065857191361782682.post-51464891823288122042010-08-05T08:51:00.000+08:002010-08-05T08:51:33.019+08:00PAC Activities for 2nd Half 2010<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TFoKVHB4VuI/AAAAAAAACEY/k7tKHDgL91w/s1600/PAC.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jV1AA_q51a0/TFoKVHB4VuI/AAAAAAAACEY/k7tKHDgL91w/s320/PAC.JPG" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://pac.com.my/events/bungalow-stay-penang-hill">Bungalow Stay @ Penang Hill</a> <br />25th- 26th December 2010 <br />Penang Hill <br />Fee. I love you!'" Drake said. "I just told him to get his butt back home."<br /><br />The teenager with long curly hair — who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa when he was 9 years old — says he was inspired by a painting in his school hallway of the seven continents' highest summits.<br /><br />"Every step I take is finally toward the biggest goal of my life, to stand on top of the world," Jordan said earlier on his blog.<br /><br /><a href="http://mymountainadventures.blogspot.com/2010/05/13-year-old-youngest-to-top-mount.html">Read more...</a><br /><a name='more'></a><br /><br />The former record for the youngest climber to scale Everest had been held by Temba Tsheri of Nepal. He reached the peak at age 16.<br /><br />Jordan's climbing team reached the summit hours earlier than expected.<br /><br />"The first thing, they all hugged each other and said, 'I love you, I can't believe we're finally here' and started crying," said Rob Bailey, the team's spokesman, by phone from the United States.<br /><br />Jordan, from Big Bear, California, was climbing Everest with his father, his father's girlfriend and three Sherpa guides. He left for the peak from the base camp on the Chinese side.<br /><br />Everest was his first challenge above 26,240 feet (8,000 meters).<br /><br />Unlike neighboring Nepal, the other approach to Everest, China has no age limit for climbers. Jordan registered with Chinese officials in April, said Zhang Mingxing, secretary general of China Tibet Mountaineering Association.<br /><br />No interview with Jordan would be possible until he returns to advance base camp, which could take a couple of days, Bailey said. Climbers stay overnight at three or four camps before the summit, depending on their route and pace.<br /><br />Jordan carried a number of good luck charms, including a pair of kangaroo testicles given to him by a friend who has cancer.<br /><br />"That's the one that probably meant the most," Bailey said.<br /><br />At the summit, Jordan left behind his lucky rabbit's foot and planted some seeds that a Buddhist monk at a local monastery had given him for luck on his journey, Bailey said. Then he took the satellite phone and called his mom.<br /><br />Just one mountain remains in the quest to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents, the Vinson Massif in Antarctica.<br /><br />Jordan's team leaves for Antarctica in December, Bailey said.<br /><br />"A piece of cake," his mother said.<br /><br />-AP<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script language="Javascript" src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript><iframe width=180 height=120 frameborder=0 src="http://www.feedblitz.com/pubroll.asp?6e2c10c9dac3bde35e72f00a732e9f7e10292550/html"></iframe></noscript></div>Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13284328696115858132noreply@blogger.com1
