Ibukun Jegede

He is from Lagos but is a UK based model. He was the 2008 winner of Britain’s Next Top Model of Colour has been a professional model for 8 years and has worked with top designers such as Hugo Boss, Fred Perry, Timberland, Paul Smith and British top fashion label Gloverall.

In 2007, Ibukun was awarded Standout Model of the year by Modelsat, in 2008 he was awarded most fashionable male model in East Midlands UK and in 2009 he won the nod for Best Male Model of the Year at the BEFFTA Awards (Black Entertainment Fashion Film Television and art Awards) in London.

"Easy ladies" Akunna said with a little chuckle, "calm down."

"Girl talk joor" I said.

"When she woke up, I called her name and told her I was the one talking to her, she asked 'where’s Henry?' I told her he wasn’t in the room but he was around, she started crying". Akunna paused and continued, "As I consoled her I asked if she could recall the last thing that happened and she said she could only remember Henry saying 'how dare you?' and a bang on her face and blackout. I didn't want to push further so I recommended she relaxed a bit more."

"I guess he must have slapped her face with something not just his palm" I said trying to picture the scenario in my head.

"Akunna please let's see her, she’s rested long enough" Furo said with so much anxiety, “she’s been here since 3pm and you just buzzed this evening, she ought to be stable now."

"Well, let's go see her cause I'm not sure I'd like Henry to meet you here. You know it would look somehow" Akunna said and we got up to go see Nnenna in a private room.

We met her watching TV. She had just woken up and I guessed she was trying to relax her mind with something interesting on TV. We all exchanged pleasantries with her and she told us she felt better generally but still had pains on her arms and sides.

"Thanks for coming around" Nnenna said with a weak smile.

"That's ok" Furo said and I chipped in "why are we friends if not for times like this?"

"Nne," Akunna said, " what exactly happened?"

Nnenna broke down in tears. We didn't quite understand why so we all consoled her. Finally she spoke up, "thanks for coming around, I'll simply tell you the truth because you are my best friends. I haven’t been the best wife to my husband".

We exchanged glances but said nothing and she continued, "He’s been a good man to me, he loves and respects me. We have our share of bad times but he handles it better than I do. I'm ashamed to say this. I hit my husband almost every time we’ve had a quarrel."

Now that came as a surprise cause this was Nnenna, the least daring of the four of us! Though our facial expressions spoke of many questions we wanted to ask, no one still said a word, so she kept talking,

“I would hit him most times with any object within my reach but he never for once retaliated, sometimes he would even beg. I injured him quite a number of times, and the last time he cried, not because he couldn’t hit back but he was just disappointed in me. This afternoon he was supposed come home for lunch, I fixed everything just to give him a nice treat but he didn't come. I was so angry, called him, he wasn’t picking up. He came home almost 3hrs later to say he wasn’t hungry, he had a meeting with some big client over lunch and closed from there, he's sorry he couldn’t call, and so on. I was very angry because he was even heading for a nap, so I told him he wasn’t going to have any rest. He told me not to disturb that he's really tired and a bit pissed by the outcome of his meeting but I wasn’t just willing to listen to that. Our voices got high and I picked up his phone and threw it real hard at him." She paused for a while.

"He warned me that if I hit him one more time, I wouldn’t like what he would do. I dared him and told him he could do absolutely nothing more than a veg. I guess I should have just kept talking but I went on, took off my slippers and slapped him with it."

"Nnenna!" I shouted.

"You did what?" Akunna queried.

"How could you?" asked a shocked Furo.

"Yes, now I know I was just stupid" Nnenna began sobbing, "he couldn’t take it anymore, all I remember was him saying ‘how dare you’ and I felt a very heavy impact like a rock, land on my face and some sharp unbearable pains on my side. I guess I just passed out after that cause I woke up here."

She was now crying. "I'm so sorry; I'm so ashamed of myself"

While we were still trying to digest what our ears just heard there was a light knock on the door and it was opened. Henry walked in with the most beautiful bouquet I’ve ever seen and a cute white teddy holding a red heart-shaped pillow with "I'm sorry My Love" written on it.

I am not alone in this inquiry; some friends too have observed this trend. So please somebody, anybody, just tell us the truth about this baby, who she is. Is she a celeb’s baby? She’s so adorable!

For close to 24hours now I’ve been wondering what would be enough reason for a young girl like this

to pour hot oil on a fellow human being like this other young girl

thus leaving her like this!

I’m still shocked at this behavior.

Some people have said it could be a quarrel because of a “sugar-daddy” a.k.a. “aristo” but then I asked ‘what would the man’s wife do if mere girlfriends are doing this?’

Or could this be the answer to his wife’s prayers of “God cause confusion in the midst of my enemies’ camp” / “God punish every woman trying to break up my marriage”? Because here, one person is scared for life and the other must go behind bars for a while for carrying out such a wicked act.

Well, let’s watch out as more unfolds.

Odeshi disappoints OPC Leader: dies from friend’s testing shot.

Yisa Anifowose

As hilarious as it may sound but very serious, Yisa Anifowose has sadly lost his life in a bid to test the efficacy of his newly acquired bullet-proof charm popularly known in Nigeria as “Odeshi” (O dighi eshi meaning: it’s not going to happen as intended).

Until his death he was the leader of the Odua People’s Congress, OPC, at Shasha Akowonjo, Lagos State.

Anifowose, 54, who was popularly called Baba Kazeem was shot in the chest by his friend and member of OPC, John Taju, a one-eyed man. Baba Kazeem on returning to Lagos invited his OPC member friends to their base to celebrate his newly acquired power and the purchase of a new car by one of his members. It was during the celebration that he reportedly told Taju to shoot him with a locally-made gun to test the efficacy of the “Odeshi”. Taju reportedly shot Baba Kazeem and the bullet tore his chest contrary his earlier boasting that it wouldn’t penetrate his body. He slumped and died on the spot.

Investigations are now being carried out by the police.

The late Anifowose was married and had six children.

Now, does it mean that the “Odeshi” was not well prepared? Or did he fail in some of the stated instructions on usage? Or was it meant for bullets of a specific type of gun? Or was it because the shooter was one-eyed?

Who is to blame now: the one who went to look for supernatural powers or the jazz man that prepared the “Odeshi” or the shooter?

O dighi eshi, hmm…. O shiela nga o.

MBGN 2011: How unSOPHISTICATED for Miss World.

So the Miss World event is coming up soon and to represent Nigeria is MBGN 2011, Sylvia Nduka. I don’t know how the judges came up with her as the winner of MBGN 2011 because she wasn’t the crowd’s favorite, but anyhow, she is MBGN 2011. But I know the judges at the Miss World event would be totally different from the MBGN 2011 judges. When I saw her Miss World 2011 Questionnaire on www.bellanaija.com, I could bet with all the possessions that God has given me on this earth (especially if the bet is between me and Aliko Dangote or Mike Adenuga…lol) that this girl wouldn’t go far in this competition unless they cheat for her!

Yes! I am saying it! Not that I wish her bad luck o! NO!!! Not at all! But it would be a waste of wish or prayer to wish or pray for success for a four year old child that wants to write MBBS exam, (how e wan take pass? na jazz?).

This girl needs a lot of brushing up sha; her coaches are not trying abeg.

Coming home from work as early as 6pm was not a regular occurrence for me especially on Fridays but today had been a good day for me at work.

First, my boss called in early to say he wouldn’t be around therefore all appointments had to be rescheduled, which I did in a matter of minutes. Second, I got a call from my youngest brother to say he had just finished his final year project defense; I was excited and grateful to God that we all had become graduates. Third, my fiancé sent me an unexpected gift just to appreciate me and the love we shared. He got me a Cartier 21 Chronoscaph wrist watch; I couldn’t hide my excitement so I made sure we were able to do lunch together. My day couldn’t have been better so I was happy to close early and get home early.

I planned to go to the gym with my fiancé on Saturday morning so I needed to go to bed a bit earlier than normal. I quickly prepared dinner and ate. I was going to have my bath to feel very refreshed before going to bed when I received an SMS from my friend Furo. It read,

“Wanga please come to LifeHope hospital. Nnenna has just been admitted”.

This wasn’t just a nice text for the moment; my day had been on a high note and this looked like it was about to bring it down. I called Furo but she wasn’t picking and I got scared, was it that serious? I normally don’t get panicked easily so I calmly changed my clothes, got out of the house and picked a commercial motorbike in other to get there faster through the traffic. LifeHope hospital isn't too far from my house and on getting there I met Nurse Belema at the reception talking with her colleague.

"Good evening Nurse" I said.

"Good evening Wanga, I knew you'd come, Dr. Akunna is in her office. You can go and see her".

"Ok thanks" I replied her as I made for Akunna's office.

Dr Akunna, Furo, Nnenna and I are very close friends. We all used LifeHope hospital because Akunna worked there. I knocked lightly on her door and when she responded I opened the door.

"Hi Wanga, you are welcome" Akunna got up to welcome me.

"Thanks" I said, "what’s going on? Furo sent me a text about Nnenna being admitted. Where's Furo?"

"Furo went to the ladies, she'll soon be here," Akunna replied as I took a seat, "Nnenna is responding to treatment and she should be good to go by tomorrow evening."

Furo came in "Hi Wanga, you were quite fast."

"I used a bike. What happened to Nnenna?"

"Well," Akunna began, “Henry brought her, said she had a domestic accident and she passed out. From what I saw, she had some little contusions on her face".

Furo and I exchanged glances and Akunna continued, "I'm suspecting she landed on her face but she had some marks on her upper left arms."

There was a tensed silence that lasted about a minute before Furo spoke up, "I think he beat her."

That was just what I thought of too.

"Henry doesn't come to me as one who would do such" Akunna said.

"Oh please," I said feeling irritated, "it’s written on no man's face that he's a woman batterer."

"Yes, but we know Henry, he's a good guy" Akunna tried to defend.

"No no" Furo said, "he can't be a 'good' guy if he hits his wife, till she passes out and then brings her to her doctor friend and claims she had a domestic accident!"

"Where is he by the way?" I asked.

"He went home to get some things she maybe needing since she's going to spend the night here" Akunna replied, "I think the traffic is delaying him".

"Has she regained consciousness?"

"Yes, but she was still weak when I checked on her some hours ago so we are making sure she gets some quiet rest" Akunna told us, "but she said something to me before she slept off."

"What?" Furo and I asked in unison.

Broke Blackface Naija dumped by Wife.

Unlike Tuface and Faze, the third member of the trio that made up Plantashun Boiz, Blackface, hasn’t been having life so sweetly financially. It’s been reported that his wife has moved out of their matrimonial home because of his inability to fend for his family. They have been married for about eight years now but had to come to a mutual agreement on living apart pending when the actual divorce will be obtained in court.

I guess going solo hasn’t favored him like Tuface and Faze who have made success of their solo careers.

So was he hiding under Tuface and Faze while they were in Plantashun Boiz or he’s just not been working hard and smart?

UN releases names of victims of Abuja bomb attack.

The United Nations has released a list of names of twenty one of the twenty three people confirmed to have lost their lives in the bomb attack that occurred on Friday 26 August 2011 at UN mission building Abuja. Spokesperson for UN, UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Daouda Touré, said 11 were UN staff and 12 non-UN staff.

Below is the list.

1. Ms. Rahmat Abdullahi (Registry Clerk, UNDP)

2. Mr. Musa Ali (Zonal Logistics Assistant for the North-West Zone, WHO)

3. Mr. Johnson Awotunde (Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, UNICEF)

Among the injured, 17 were seriously injured (12 UN and 5 non-UN staff) and they have been evacuated to South Africa for specialist treatment.

I wish the injured victims a very speedy recovery.

Mc Loph dies in car accident. [Picture]

It’s so sad that the Nigerian entertainment industry has lost another young talent in the person of Obiajulu Nwaozor better known as MC Loph. He died early hours of Wednesday September 14, 2011 on the controversial Benin – Ore road when he lost control of his Ford Durango SUV which he bought a few weeks back, skidded and somersaulted into a ditch. He was travelling to the eastern part of the country for his traditional wedding alongside his Abia state-born wife who is a medical practitioner. It hasn’t been confirmed if she survived the accident but I hope she did.

Mc Loph was the only son in a family of four who graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. He would be remembered for the song that shot him into limelight in the entertainment industry, a remix of the hit song of late highlife legend Osita Osadebe, Osondi Owendi.

Rest in peace Mc Loph.

Boko Haram threatens to bomb UI and other universities.

University of Ibadan

According to http://www.vanguardngr.com/, the authorities of the University of Ibadan have confirmed the threat by members suspected to be of the Boko Haram sect that they are going to bomb the university between 12 and 17 September and this has led to panic among staff and students of the institution as there was heavy security presence at the main entrance to the university, opposite Agbowo Shopping Complex this morning. The Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Elijah Afolabi Bamigboye confirmed the rumour thus “We heard rumours that a group which detests education is likely to descend on institutions where education is being imparted. We heard that U.I is top on the list. When we heard the rumour of the threat to bomb U.I, we did not want to take chances. We’ve heard of experiences in the past, especially the recent bombing of the UN house in Abuja as well as the Force headquarters which left several people dead”.

This is very unpleasant! And our government is just going to do nothing about this menace? Oh God please come to Nigeria’s rescue o in Jesus’ name!

Akolade Arowolo attempts suicide in prison.

Akolade Arowolo, who allegedly stabbed in Banker wife Titilayo in June 2011, has attempted to take his own life while in the Ikoyi Prison where he was being remanded pending the outcome of the autopsy report on his wife.

Reports have it that he paid someone who smuggled in a poisonous substance which he ingested to terminate his life and this wasn’t his first attempt to kill himself in the prison. He was rushed to Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos for prompt medical attention. The case which is still in court was on last Friday adjourned till October 26 by the magistrate.

This man wants to take his own life? This wouldn’t even augur well for his side of the case in court o. God help.

The ‘Beating’ in Beat 99.9Fm: People’s Reactions.

Over the weekend I read about the much talked about ugly incident that took place last week in Beat 99.9FM between Programmes Director, Olisa Adibua and Adewunmi Oyekanmi, the night news editor at Naija Fm, on Linda Ikeji’s blog and on facebook. Reading the different posts and the comments was quite interesting. I don’t support violence of any form in a work place and this case really shouldn’t just die down, our judiciary should use it to teach and warn violent superiors. Employers/Company Managements should also take proper actions regardless of who ever is involved in such dastardly acts.

I enjoyed reading different people’s comments. This “anonymous” button eh,…lol. I want to share some of the most interesting / hilarious comments that got me ROTFL just like the picture above!

The week before last, on the Tuesday and Wednesday, in Nigeria we observed the much awaited public holidays marking Ramadan Kareem. Lots of people had anticipated the break especially corporate workers and many are already counting down to the next national public holidays. After work resumed, I caught up with someone and in the course of our chat she asked me "how did you spend your holiday?" I answered casually that I was indoors because the first day I needed to rest and the second day I hoped to go out but the rains started early in the morning and lasted till late evening, so I couldn’t go anywhere. But then, the question struck me in a way. It brought back some childhood memories.

When I was in primary school in the early 90s, it was a common home work in the English Language subject to write a short essay on how you spent your holidays. It always came up at the beginning of the term or after the midterm breaks. Most of us dreaded that assignment because we didn't understand what exactly we were expected to write. Were we supposed to give an every single day account? But that would take a whole exercise book. Were we expected to pick just one single day and give a detailed account of all that happened that day? But that would be just one day and not the whole holiday. So we all wrote whatever our young brains could put together as how we spent the holiday.

Most often it read thus:

Does this essay ring a bell? Some of us even kept our best copy of it and used it every beginning of term. How time flies. I don’t know if primary school children still write such essays now and how their own stories are told but I expect it to be better than ours.

If you are a Nigerian, you got your primary education in Nigeria and at one point or the other you wrote such an essay say “aye”, if you didn’t say “nay”.

She is the youngest in a family of ten children that hails from Enugu State, Nigeria. With a B Sc. in Microbiology from Abia State University, she is currently observing her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Lagos.

Oluchi has always loved fashion and modeling. She’s been modeling professionally for over a year now.

Last Friday I launched a comprehensive database on all Vehicles in Nigeria designed to link every vehicle to its owner/operator such that vehicles can be traced within seconds.
