Image credits to Gadgetophilia.

Right now I am thinking whether want to buy Nokia N97 or iPhone 3GS. I have tested both of them and have read the comparison over the Internet. Of course both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Below are my opinions between these two touch screen smartphones:

Nokia N97

Has widgets at the home screen so we can put our favourite applications there.

Has the video call feature which I will use it most of the time.

The camera has 5MP resolution which I think it is far greater than iPhone 3GS camera.

Also has dual-LEDs camera flash to snap pictures in low-light.

The camera using Carl Zeiss optics which will bring more picture quality.

Internal memory is 32GB but I can add up to 16GB external memory. So total capacity is 48GB.

It using QWERTY keyboard which is great for typing messages or surfing the Internet.

Although Nokia N97 has touchscreen but it is not smooth like iPhone 3GS. I have to press the screen to select an item. Unlike the iPhone 3GS, you only need to tap the screen.

The web browser supports flash and I can watch Youtube videos if I want.

Not many applications made available for Nokia.

iPhone 3GS

The touchscreen is very very smooth. No other touchscreen phones can beat it.

Has no video call feature.

The camera quality also not so good which is only 3MP.

Has no built-in flash for taking pictures in low-light condition.

There are many applications made available for iPhone 3GS and most of them are cheap and free.

But the battery dries really fast unless if you switched off the unwanted services like 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth, etc.

The web browser does not support flash. So no Youtube videos.

The capacity is only up to 32GB.

It has built-in compass which I think it is cool.

As conclusion, after comparing both of them, I think I will choose iPhone 3GS over Nokia N97. Although iPhone 3GS does not has the features like no video call, no flash camera, no Carl Zeiss optics, but still, I think it is the best smartphone to have. Especially the touch screen smoothness.

However, if you want to get a smartphone that you can use for Internet surfing, taking pictures and listen to musics, Nokia N97 is suit best for you. But, if you are looking for a touch screen smartphone with various of applications made available freely for you, definitely I recommend you to get iPhone 3GS.

ps: I heard the rumors that iPhone 4G will be out on this coming June or July. Hope it has the video call feature.

Still remember my last post about N79 and N85? Well, today I noticed Nokia has released new colour set for Nokia N79 model. You can see it at Nokia N79 page.

Image from thenokiablog.com

The colour is black with codename Petrol Black. It comes with Dark Grey, Steel Grey and Deep Plum X-press-on back covers. The term X-press-on means, the theme changes according to the colour of back cover you put it on.

Right now, I am not sure whether it already available at the Malaysia market or not. But I will check it at this weekend.

I am thinking whether want to buy N79 or N85. Both have their own pros and cons. But actually I am more want to buy N79 because it is the successor of my N73ME.

The thing that I like the most from N79 is because it is not slide nor flip. The design is small and thin make me really want to buy it especially the white colour design. I already purchased N79 grey colour by using the MBF credit card promotion for my mom. The phone will be arrived around 1 to 2 weeks.

I thought MBF also has N79 white colour model but the customer service said to me that they only have the grey colour only. If not, I am surely will buy two, grey for my mom and white for myself.

On the other hand, N85 is also good and latest model. If I buy N85, I can have another Nseries phone model beside than N7* series. Everything is already perfect except, it is slide. If it is not slide, I think I will grab N85 when I was at the Nokia store in One Utama, one week ago.

So guys, if you have budget for these two phone models, N79 and N85, which one you will choose?

Every Nseries users and all mobile phone users will have the same problem. The battery dried up pretty fast. My N73ME only can last long for about one to one and half days only. This is because I always use the video call before I go to bed. But if you are a normal user, you can save and extend your Nseries battery life more longer.

1. Turn off bluetooth – How many of you turn on the bluetooth all the time? Bluetooth uses power to run. If you are not using the bluetooth, it is better to turn it off to save the battery.

2. No Games – Although our Nseries phone is a smartphone but I think it is not necessary to use it for playing games. Unless if you are a hardcore gamer that love playing mobile games from your mobile phone.

3. Low the Brightness – I set my display brightness to medium. Don’t set your brightness display to high because it will consume more power usage. And don’t set it to low or you will threaten your eyes.

4. No Vibrate – When you turn on the vibrate, your Nseries phone will use more power to run the vibrator. Use the vibrate mode when you are in meeting, cinema or any other places that you need to put your phone to silent.

5. Close Open Applications – Make sure to close all unused applications that running at background. You can check current running applications by pressing the Menu button for about two seconds.

These tips might work but sometimes maybe because of your Nseries battery is old, so its time to replace the battery with the new one. Never buy duplicate or cloned battery because although it is cheap but it might be exploded at any time.

With this program you will be able to play different sounds during a phone conversation, i.e: sounds of street, traffic jam, building site, garden, airport etc.

Features:

Configurable sound rules for contacts, groups, phone numbers and other situations;

Easy to use and intuitive user interface;

Possibility to add any sound in amr format to sound list;

How does it work:

Before you can use this application, you should setup the settings:

Set the necessary options (Mode, Volume, Repeat playing);

Configure sound rules;

Activate Best CallCheater;

After CallCheater has been configured, a message will pop up on the screen:

Sound name;

[Joystick-Up] Cancel sound;

[Joystick-Down] Select sound;

If you have chosen Mode manual, then in order to play a sound you should select it (Joystick-Down). If you have chosen Mode automatic, then a sound will be automatically played, and in order to cancel it press Joystick-Up. To quickly break a sound during a conversation press Joystick-Up.

Sounds’ rules:

There are two tabs in this dialog: Sounds and Sounds list.

On a tab Sounds list there is a list of sounds that can be selected for playing. You can do the following operations with this list:

Play sound;

Add sound;

Delete sound, hot key (C);

On Sounds tab, rules for defining a sound during a phone call are configured. A rule has a condition – Enabled/Disabled and a sound, which is set for this rule.

Default – works only if no other rule is applicable;

Not in contacts – works when the caller’s number cannot be found in contacts database;

Private No. – works when the caller’s number cannot be defined;

Contact – a certain sound is set for all numbers of a specified contact;

Group – a certain sound is set for all contacts in a specified group;

Phone – a mask for numbers is set. The match pattern can contain the wildcard characters “*” and “?”, where “*” matches zero or more consecutive occurrences of any character and “?” matches a single occurrence of any character.

Example:

‘*77′ – all numbers ending with 77;

’877*’ – all numbers beginning with 877;

’12?34′ – all numbers like 12034, 12134 … 12934;

Settings:

Autostart : On/Off;

Mode:

Manual – sound is played when it is selected from a listbox,

Automatic – sound is automatically played when at least one rule suits;

Repeat playing : On/Off;

Handle : Only on phone app / Anywhere. If you choose “Only on phone app”, keys Down/Up will be handled only in the Phone application.

I have tested Best CallCheater and it is really amazing on how it can do. My girlfriend thought I was in the middle of traffic jam at midnight but actually I was in my room, chuckling.

If you don’t want the caller knows where you are or if you want to cover yourself, use Best CallCheater. Use the sounds to keep them believe you are actually at the building workplace.

But I have a suggestion, it is better if Best CallCheater allows us to use our own sounds so we can put background music while chatting with our lovely ones.

Hi all… It has been long time since my last post in here. Been busy all the time and have no idea on what to update on this blog. So today, for this entry, I would like to share with you a tip on how to avoid your NSeries from hang.

My girlfriend just bought her new Nokia phone and claimed that her new Nokia 6500 always hang. I asked her whether she using wallpaper on her phone or not. She said yes and stored the wallpaper image in the memory card. Then, I told her to move the image to phone memory. Since then, her phone does not hang anymore.

So, the question is, why you should put wallpaper image into phone memory? Well, hen you put the image that you want to set as wallpaper into the memory card, the phone will try to retrieve the image from the memory card when each time you go to the front screen. This process takes time because the phone had to retrive the file from external storage (memory card). This will slow down your phone and will make it become hang.

So to avoid your NSeries from hang, you need to put the wallpaper image into the phone memory (internal storage). By doing so, your NSeries will load the image more faster and this will reduce the possibilities of the phone to become hang.

If your NSeries phone always got hang, then you must move the wallpaper image into phone memory instead of stored in into the memory card. But, if your phone is still got hang after using this tip, then need to investigate what are the faulties. Probably, your phone has less free RAM.
