Windows 8 News Update

Been hiatus for a while and almost 2 months since my last post... Well I do hope I can keep on posting from now on. Last September 13, 2011, I have posted about the new next version of the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems.

Windows 8 News Update

The Windows 8, packed with its new and exciting features. This time however, it appears that the Redmond-based software giant will make its next version of Windows available for download to end-users by the end of February. According to several reports, Microsoft last Wednesday has already sent out invitations to journalists to a media event that will take place in Barcelona, during the World Mobile Congress, this February 29th, a leap day. At which it will formally unveil the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Although the software is not officially being called a beta version, it's generally thought to be analogous to the "public beta 1" label that the software maker used during the pre-release period for past Windows launches. MWC is an annual event held to showcase new products and services in the mobile industry

Back in my last post there are some information that has not been confirmed like the system requirements and the details of its new features.

Here are some Windows 8 Updates

Minimum System Requirements

It is reported that Windows 8 is expected to have the same system requirements as Windows 7, and will run on existing machines that run Windows 7.Though these system requirements may change in the final release.

Here are the following minimum system requirements to run Windows 8:

Processor: 1GHz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor
RAM: 1GB (32-bit) or 2GB (64-bit)
HD Space: 16GB for 32-bit (or 20GB for 64-bit)

Features new to Windows 8

Language and standards support

It has a new developer platform according to Microsoft Vice President Julie Larson-Green, who called it "our new developer platform, which is...based on HTML5 and JavaScript."The new platform is primarily designed for 16:9 screen resolutions, with 1366×768 and larger screens able to display two Windows 8 "Metro-style" applications side-by-side by "snapping".

Windows Store

Similar to the Ubuntu Software Center, and Mac App Store, that allows developers to publish their Metro-style applications on Windows 8 devices.

Picture password
Instead of typing a password, a new authentication method allows users to use a set of gestures in the selected picture to login. These gestures will take into account the shape, the start and end points, as well as the directionality. However, the shapes and gestures are limited to tapping and tracing a line or circle.

Taskbar
Windows 8 provides a configurable taskbar in the traditional Windows desktop that spans multiple monitors. The Multiple Monitor Taskbar can be turned on and off and is used to display the minimized windows.

Windows Explorer
The re-designed Windows Explorer will use the Ribbon interface to enhance discoverability of commands and bring relevant commands to users depending on their file selection. Windows Explorer can now mount ISO, IMG, and VHD files as virtual drives through simple right-clicks or the Explorer toolbar(Windows 7 could mount VHDs but in a less-discoverable way via the Disk Management section in the Computer Management MMC).

Task Manager
A new Task Manager replaces Windows Task Manager (though the old version is also included).

New easy restore
The Developer Preview comes with two new recovery functions. Namely, Refresh and Reset, which both make a complete restore easier than a re-installation. The former keeps all settings & files of the user intact and only reverses all changes to Windows files to its original state and removes all installed programs and apps. The latter deletes all files and effectively re-installs Windows, but without any additional user input such as agreeing to license agreements or selecting a hard disk required. After a reset completes, the user will be asked for the product key and will then proceed to account creation.

Windows Live ID integration
One big change is that user accounts do not have to be local-only anymore but can be linked up to one's Windows Live ID. This has the advantage that users will not lose their settings and files[citation needed] as they move from their home computer to their work laptop or to any other computer also using Windows 8.

Storage Spaces
Storage Spaces is a storage virtualization technology which succeeds Logical Disk Manager and allows the organization of physical disks into logical volumes similar to RAID1 or RAID5, but on a higher level.

USB 3.0
Windows 8 will have built-in support of USB 3.0 for better power management and longer battery life.

New architecture support
Windows 8 will support System on a Chip (SoC) architectures, including ARM-based systems. On the x86 architecture, Intel Corporation and AMD continue their work on low-power SoC designs that support Windows.

Activation
Mike Angiulo confirmed at Computex 2011 that Windows 8 will use OEM Activation 3.0 instead of OEM Activation 2.1 (used by Windows 7), which supposedly makes it less prone to cracks.

Virtualization
Windows 8 will also include Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualization software. Previously only offered in Windows Server, Hyper-V will now be available in client versions of Windows for the first time. The system requirements for Hyper-V are a 64-bit processor, a 64-bit version of Windows 8, and a minimum of 4 GB of RAM. Hyper-V also requires a 64-bit system that has Second Level Address Translation (SLAT), a feature that helps with memory management. Many of Intel's and AMD's recent processors support this feature, including many of Intel's i-Series processors (with Extended Page Table) and AMD's 10h family processors.

Shorter boot times
On September 8, 2011, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 has short boot times, because it saves the kernel's memory to the hard disk on shutdown (similar to the existing hibernate option) and reloads it on start up.

Boot security
Windows 8 will support the UEFI secure boot feature. This will enable a new foundation for an architecturally neutral approach to platform and firmware security. It is based on a public key infrastructure (PKI) process to validate firmware images before they are allowed to execute. A secure boot helps reduce the risk of boot loader attacks.

WDDM
Windows 8 includes WDDM 1.2 and DXGI 1.2. New features were first previewed at the Windows BUILD conference and include performance improvements as well as support for stereoscopic 3D rendering and video playback.

Other major features include preemptive multitasking with finer granularity (DMA buffer, primitive, triangle, pixel, or instruction-level), reduced memory footprint, improved resource sharing, and faster timeout detection and recovery. 16-bit color surface formats (565, 5551, 4444) are mandatory in Windows 8, and Direct3D 11 Video supports YUV 4:4:4/4:2:2/4:2:0/4:1:1 video formats with 8, 10, and 16-bit precision, as well as 4 and 8-bit palletized formats.

Steve Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011)

Steve Jobs, one of the most visionary Americans of his generation and the cofounder of Apple computers died last October 5, 2011 at the age of 56.

Apple's corporate website greeted visitors with a simple page showing Jobs's name and lifespan next to his greyscale portrait. Clicking on Jobs's image led to an obituary that read "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple." An email address was also posted for the public to share their memories, condolences, and thoughts.

Jobs was survived by his wife, Laurene, to whom he was married for 20 years; their three children; and a fourth child, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, from a previous relationship.

I understand this is great lost in the apple company since they lost a great leader and also in the computing world as one of the great minds of this century...As one of his follower I would like to extend my deepest condolence to the family and friends of Steve Jobs...

Google is now officially a teenager. The search giant on Tuesday celebrated its 13th birthday with a homepage doodle that features the company's logo surrounded by presents and a cake.

Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products,and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program. As for me Google is the most helpful search engine, as we often says "If you want to know something, just Google it" .

Microsoft Windows has added a new version of operating system in the microsoft family. The Windows 8 is the codename of the next version of Microsoft Windows, a family of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs, servers and media center PCs.It adds support for ARM microprocessors in addition to the traditional x86 microprocessors from Intel & AMD. Its user interface has been changed to make it better suitable for touchscreen input in addition to the traditional mouse and keyboard input. And it said to be release in Fall 2012.

Features

The main feature that was shown is the extensively redesigned user interface, optimized for touchscreens as well as mice and keyboards. A new "Start screen", similar to the one in Windows Phone 7, includes live application tiles. It replaces the Start menu, being triggered by the Start button or Windows key, and is also the first screen shown on startup. The user can go to the regular desktop by choosing the "Desktop" tile or a traditional desktop-based application. The Start screen also displays the user's name and avatar. Windows 8 has a new developer platform according to Microsoft Vice President Christopher Ham, who called it "our new developer platform, which is...based on HTML5 and JavaScript." The new applications run in full-screen, but two of them can be displayed side-by-side using "Snap". On my spare time I like playing online. One of the online game that I am playing until now is RAN Online Philippines. It is I think one of the most popular MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) here in the Philippines or even some countries such as Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan. The Game was released globally and here in the Philippines I think was in 2006 by E - Games. Well, I started playing the game around summer of 2007.

The System Requirements

The Storyline

The Game was about a four schools the Sacred Gate, Mystic Peak, Phoenix, and Leonair Campus. These campuses were founded by the Sacred financial group that ruled earth after a meteor shower happened almost 18 years ago. And only the smartest, strongest, fittest students were recruited in this schools. And later on rumors spread that this schools are training there students in to some forbidden arts that was use in Ancient Wars.

The Characters

The Characters in Ran Online can be built in three main types-DEX(dexterity), INT(intelligence)and the POW(power) types. DEX types usually has fast skills, low attack power and high defense, INT types has mid skills, very high accuracy, mid attack power and mid defense while POW types comes with fast skills, very high attack power but low defense.

The Brawler - this students are trained in the art of Brawling, where they use fist and legs as a weapon using a gauntlet they are unbeatable in a close range combat. In which a single fist strike or kick strike will kill the opponent.

The Swordsman - this students are trained in the art of Swordsmanship. Where they learn the various sword play. With there knowledge in using sword plus there strength and agility give them the advantage on a short radius combat.

The Archer - this was regarded as the most artistic of the four. In which students are trained in the art of Archery. Equipped with a Bow, they are deadly at a long range combat.

The Shaman - this students are trained in the art of Shamanism. The combined Martial Arts and Qi (the energy that flows through and around the human body, physically and psychically). They are the one that heals and cast buffs where they can sway the result of the battle.

The Extreme - has the ability to use all kinds of weapon making them exceptional compared to the first four classes. They also have the ability to use skills which the first four classes do not have. A player can only unlock the Extreme class whenever he/she reached a level of 195 using any of the first four classes.

The Gunner - the latest character that is released in the game. By using guns as their main weapon, Gunners have the unique ability to debuff a player, summon powerful mobs to assist them, or even paralyze an enemy making them unable to use potions.

The Game play
The game was simple its main goal is to upgrade your level. You will gain level by gaining experience. To gain level you will need to kill monsters. Each level you will be given 3 stat points and 1 skill points.

Stat points are use to increase Statistics in Dexterity, Strength, Inteligence and Vit.

Skill points are use to learn and upgrade your skills.

Skills has a Level and number of stat and skill points required. And you will need to scroll to lean them. You can acquire the scroll on in game store or from taking the quest.

The map, where you are playing is one of the vital place where you gain level. Each map has different level required that you will need to reach a certain level to take the quest and enter the new map.

Weapons this are very important when you are leveling since this will give you the attack power to kill those monsters. As I have mention the Brawlers use Gauntlet, Swordsman use sword, Archers use Bow and Arrows, and Shamans use Staffs. This weapons also has a level and number of stat and skill points required and can be upgraded using a refines called Burr (can upgrade your weapons attack 1 to 4) and Fine Burr (can upgrade your weapons attack up to +9)

Armor as important as a weapon since it increases your defense to sustain your life while leveling. As the weapon goes it also level and number of stat and skill points required and can be upgraded using a refines called Protection Potion (can upgrade your armor's defense up to +4) and Luxury Protection Potion (can upgrade your armor's defense up to +9)

This are just brief information about the game. Have gained friends and buddies upon leveling up. I can say is that I had fun and learn some few lessons in life while playing the game.

AMD Bulldozer

AMD Bulldozer is the AMD's given codename to the the next-generation CPU cores after the K10 microarchitecture for the company's M-SPACE design methodology, with the core specifically aimed at 10-watt to 125-watt TDP computing products. Bulldozer is a completely new design developed from the ground up.

According to AMD, Bulldozer-based CPUs will be based on GlobalFoundries' 32 nm SOI process technology and utilize a new approach to multithreaded computer performance that, according to press notes,

"balances dedicated and shared computer resources to provide a highly compact, high core count design that is easily replicated on a chip for performance scaling."

In other words, by eliminating some of the redundancies that naturally creep into multicore designs, AMD hopes to take better advantage of its hardware capabilities, while using less power. AMD claims dramatic performance-per-watt improvements in HPC applications with Bulldozer cores.

As of November 2009, Bulldozer-based implementations built on 32nm SOI with HKMG are scheduled to arrive in 2011 for both servers and desktops. The server segment includes the dual chip 16-core Opteron processor codenamed Interlagos (for Socket G34) and single chip 4–8 core Valencia (for Socket C32), while the 4–8 core Zambezi will target desktops on Socket AM3+

Based on the information provided by AMD during its annual Analyst Day in November 2009, the Bulldozer chip code-named Zambezi will feature eight x86 processing engines (cores) organized in pairs. The cores of a module share a floating point unit with two 128-bit FMAC units and two 128-bit integer SIMD units, and an L2 cache. Multiple modules share an L3 cache as well as an Advanced Dual-Channel Memory Sub-System (IMC - Integrated Memory Controller). Bulldozer is designed for higher memory level parallelism. AMD also states that the new CPU will feature “Extensive New Power Management Innovations”. The new chips that belong to Bulldozer’s family will also support “Advanced Vector Extensions” (AVX) that supports 256-bit FP operations.

The AMD Bulldzer will release the first Opteron server processors to feature its new Bulldozer cores on Sept. 26, according to PCMag. AMD's FX-series Bulldozer chips for high-end desktops are also set for release in either September or October, according to a report from DigiTimes.

AMD is eyeing the Sept. 26 release date for its new Opteron 4200 series, codenamed Valencia, and Opteron 6200 series, codenamed Interlagos, according to a source familiar with the company's product roadmap.

Wi-Fi hotspots is one of the benefits of wireless networking and one of the marketing strategy of coffee shops and other establishments. However this hotspots are designed to be unsecured to give convenience to customers as in tended by the administrator of this wireless network unfortunately, that same lack of security also makes connecting to them risky.

Be sure and set the location to "Public Network" when prompted, if you're connecting to a public hotspot. The Public Network location blocks file and printer sharing-which are common routes for data snoopers. HomeGroup is not available with this option selected and network discovery is turned off, too; all of which makes your data less visible on a wireless network.

Use a VPN

Use a third-party VPN product like HotSpot Shield; GoTrusted Secure Tunnel 2 or an all cloud-based option like HotSpot VPN. These solutions protect by creating a virtual private network between your machine and their network-a virtual tunnel. This tunnel is secured against anyone who may try to intercept your Web session while connected to a public hotspot: hackers, snoopers, bots and the like. Be forewarned, Web surfing and file downloading may be a little slower using VPN.

Harden Your Data Defenses

Antivirus software and security suites are great, but you should also harden your data defenses in case someone gets through. In Windows, hide folders that contain sensitive data—it's easy to do: just right-click on the folder and select "Properties" and then under the "General" tab, set the folder's attributes to "Hidden." You will still be able to see the folder, although the folder icon will appear transparent. Then go into Windows Explorer. Click on the "Organize" button and then select "Folder and Search Options" to launch Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab and then select "Don't show hidden files, folders and drives." This is of

This is less a technical tip than a behavioral one: if at all possible, avoid doing more serious tasks like bill paying, accessing your bank account, or using your credit card when connected to public Wi-Fi. Save those transactions for when you're connected safely to your home wireless network. Because that's secure, right? Opt to Not Save Passwords

Yes, it is tempting. There are just so many passwords to remember. Websites and browsers are forever asking if you want to save and store passwords. A general rule of thumb: you're probably better off not storing your username and password anywhere, especially when it comes to banking sites and the like. That goes double for road warriors who frequently connect via public Wi-Fi. If you have trouble remembering your password, use a utility like the excellent LastPass to keep track of them for you.

Use HTTPS and SSL

Turn on Windows Firewall, and use the setting for public networks for more secured access. And don't forget your other apps either; even people who remember OS updates often forget to keep their apps patched. App updates may also fix serious security holes, too.

Remove Sensitive Data From Your Laptop

Consider leaving home without it. If possible, remove sensitive data like spreadsheets, bank files, or documents with a social security number from your laptop you travel. Leave them on your home machine. If it's must access that data, consider storing it on a NAS device that you can access from the road. Apple Releases New Generation of iMac models with Thunderbolt

Today, Apple announced the release of the new generation of iMac models, running at speeds up to 3.4 GHz and powered by the next generation of Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The models also build in support for the new Thunderbolt high-speed peripheral connection interface that debuted in Apple’s MacBook Pro line earlier this year.

The new iMacs have arrived. The Apple store is back online after being down this morning in anticipation of the updated desktop systems sporting the first Thunderbolt port on a desktop, AMD Radeon HD graphics and an HD FaceTime camera.

The refresh also features the integration of the much-anticipated "Sandy Bridge" processors from Intel. The new iMacs come with quad-core Intel Core i5 processors with an option for customers to choose Core i7 processors up to 3.4 GHz.

"Our customers love the iMac's aluminum enclosure, gorgeous display and all-in-one design," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said in a statement filled with the company's typical bravado. "With next-generation quad-core processors, powerful new graphics, Thunderbolt technology and a FaceTime HD camera, we've made the world's best desktop even better.".

It's widely suspected that the new iMacs will be the first line of "Lion-ready" desktops. But until OS X Lion debuts, Apple will only confirm that new iMacs are shipping with OS X Snow Leopard.

The new machine comes in four basic configurations:

Two 21.5-inch models with a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 processor respectively, and Two 27-inch models with a 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 and 3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel i5. Apple is also offering build-to-order Web-only options to bump the 21.5-inch model to a 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, and the 27-inch model to a 3.4GHz Intel Core i7; the i7 processor upgrades add $200 to the cost.

Ever wonder what those green bars on your task bar (lower right hand corner beside the time) means? Well that pertains to the wireless signal strength of your wireless signal. The performance of your wireless network connection depends on signal strength. Between a computer and access point or the router, the wireless signal strength in each direction determines the total amount of network bandwidth available along that connection.

You can determine the signal strength of your Wireless Network connection at any given point in time, by using the following:

1. Operating system utility - Microsoft Windows (and other network operating systems) contain a built in utility to monitor wireless network connection status. In the Network Connections section of Control Panel, opening the Status window of the Wireless Network Connection icon reveals a Signal Strength meter. This meter shows up to five green bars representing the current strength on a quality scale from "Very Low" (1 bar) to "Excellent" (5 bars).

2. Wireless adapter utility - Some manufacturers of wireless network hardware and/or notebook computers (e.g., Linksys, IBM) provide software applications along with the hardware that also monitor wireless signal strength. These applications often report signal strength and quality based on a percentage from 0-100%.

For example, a connection with an Excellent / 5 bars rating in Windows XP may show in IBM ThinkVantage Access Connections as Excellent with a percentage rating anywhere between 80-100%. These percentages are based on actual radio signal levels maintained by the wireless network adapter, in decibels (dB).

3. WiFi locator devices - Resembling a keychain, a WiFi locator device is designed to detect signal strength of nearby wireless access points. Most WiFi locators use a set of between four and six LEDs to indicate signal strength in units of "bars" similar to the Microsoft Windows utility. Unlike the above methods, WiFi locator devices do not measure the strength of your actual connection, they only predict the strength of a connection.

So you have already determined the signal strength at your current location so the next question comes into your mind is if in case you are getting a low wireless signal what can you do to improve your wireless signal strength?

Here are some tips on How to Improve your Wireless Signal Strength:

1. Position your wireless router, modem router, or access point in a central location

If possible, place your wireless router, wireless modem router (a DSL or cable modem with a built-in wireless router), or wireless access point (WAP) in a central location in your home. If your wireless router, modem router, or access point is against an outside wall of your home, the signal will be weak on the other side of your home. If your router is on the first floor and your PC or laptop is on the second floor, place the router high on a shelf in the room where it is located.

2. Move the router off the floor and away from walls and metal objects (such as metal file cabinets)

Metal objects, walls, and floors will interfere with your router's wireless signals. The closer your router is to these obstructions, the more severe the interference, and the weaker your connection will be.

3. Replace your router's antenna

The antennas supplied with your router are designed to be omnidirectional, meaning that they broadcast in all directions around the router. If your router is near an outside wall, half of the wireless signals will be sent outside your home, and much of your router's power will be wasted. Most routers don't allow you to increase the power output, but you can make better use of the power. If your router’s antenna is removable, you can upgrade to a high-gain antenna that focuses the wireless signals in only one direction. You can even aim the signal in the direction you need it most.

4. Replace your laptop's wireless PC card-based network adapter

Laptops with built-in wireless networking capability typically have excellent antennas and don't need to have their network adapters upgraded. These tips are for laptops that do not have built-in wireless networking.

Wireless network signals must be sent both to and from your computer. Sometimes your router can broadcast strongly enough to reach your computer, but your computer can't send signals back to your router. To improve this, replace your laptop's PC card-based wireless network adapter with a USB wireless network adapter that uses an external antenna. In particular, consider a Linksys Wireless-N or Hawking Hi-Gain Wireless-N USB network adapter. These add an external, high-gain antenna to your computer and can significantly extend your wireless range. Wireless router and wireless repeater

5. Add a wireless repeater

Wireless repeaters extend your wireless network range without requiring you to add any wiring. Just place the wireless repeater halfway between your wireless router, modem router, or access point and your computer, and you can get an instant boost to your wireless signal strength. Check out the wireless-N repeaters from Linksys, Hawking Hi-Gain, ViewSonic, D-Link, and Buffalo Technology, or shop for a wireless-N repeater.

6. Change your wireless channel

Wireless routers can broadcast on several different channels, similar to the way radio stations use different channels. In the United States and Canada, these channels are 1, 6, and 11. Just as you'll sometimes hear interference on one radio station while another is perfectly clear, sometimes one wireless channel is clearer than others. Try changing your wireless router's channel through your router's configuration page to see if your signal strength improves. You don't need to change your computer's configuration, because it can automatically detect the new channel. You can check the manual of your router on how to change the wireless channel of your router on the configuration page.

7. Reduce wireless interference

The most common wireless technology, 802.11g (wireless-G), operates at a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz (GHz). Many cordless phones, microwave ovens, baby monitors, garage door openers, and other wireless electronics also use this frequency. If you use these wireless devices in your home, your computer might not be able to "hear" your router over the noise coming from them.

If your network uses wireless-G, you can quiet the noise by avoiding wireless electronics that use the 2.4 GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones and other devices that use the 5.8 GHz or 900 megahertz (MHz) frequencies. Because 802.11n (wireless-N) operates at both 2.4 GHz and the less frequently used 5.0 GHz frequency, you may experience less interference on your network if you use this technology.

8. Update your firmware or your network adapter driver

Router manufacturers regularly make free improvements to their routers. Sometimes, these improvements increase performance. To get the latest firmware updates for your router, visit your router manufacturer's website.

Similarly, network adapter vendors occasionally update the software that Windows uses to communicate with your network adapter, known as the driver. These updates typically improve performance and reliability. To get the driver updates check the vendors website.

9. Pick equipment from a single vendor

Although a Linksys router will work with a D-Link network adapter, you often get better performance if you pick a router and network adapter from the same vendor. Some vendors offer a performance boost of up to twice the performance when you choose their hardware (like their USB wireless network adapters). Linksys has the SpeedBooster technology for its wireless-G devices, and D-Link has the 108G enhancement for its wireless-G devices. These enhancements can be helpful if you have wireless-G devices and you need to transmit over a long distance or you live in an older house (old walls tend to block the signal more than newly built ones do).

If speeding up your connection is important to you, consider the next tip—upgrading your wireless technology.

10. Upgrade 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g devices to 802.11n

Although wireless-G (802.11g) may be the most common type of wireless network, wireless-N (802.11n) is at least twice as fast and it has better range and stability. Wireless-N is backward-compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g, so you can still use any existing wireless equipment that you have—though you won’t see much improvement in performance until you upgrade your computer or network adapter to wireless-G, too.

If you're using wireless-B or wireless-G and you're unhappy with your network’s speed and performance, consider replacing your router and network adapters with wireless-N equipment. If you're buying new equipment, definitely choose wireless-N.

It is their remarkable optimism in the face of such calamity that symbolizes the truly unshakable spirit of the gnomes.

Humans

Recent discoveries have shown that humans are descended from the barbaric vrykul, half-giant warriors who live in Northrend. Early humans were primarily a scattered and tribal people for several millennia, until the rising strength of the troll empire forced their strategic unification. Thus the nation of Arathor was formed, along with its capital, the city-state of Strom.

Night Elves

The ancient and reclusive night elves have played a pivotal role in shaping Azeroth’s fate throughout its history. More than ten thousand years ago, their heroics during the War of the Ancients helped stave off the demonic Burning Legion’s first invasion. When the scattered remnants of the Legion on Azeroth rallied together with the vile satyrs centuries later, the night elves again rose to meet the threat. The ensuing War of the Satyr exacted a heavy toll from the night elves, but ultimately they vanquished the forces that had set out to wreak havoc on their world.

Horde

Goblins

Originally the slaves of jungle trolls on the Isle of Kezan, goblins were forced to mine kaja’mite ore out of the volcanic bowels of Mount Kajaro. The trolls used this potent mineral for their voodoo rituals, but it had an unexpected effect on the slaves who were in constant contact with it: kaja’mite generated a startling new cunning and intelligence in the goblin race.

Blood Elves

For nearly 7,000 years, high elven society centered on the sacred Sunwell, a magical fount that was created using a vial of pure arcane energy from the first Well of Eternity. Nourished and strengthened by the Sunwell’s potent energies, the high elves’ enchanted kingdom of Quel’Thalas prospered within the verdant forests north of Lordaeron.

Orcs

Unlike the other races of the Horde, orcs are not native to Azeroth. Initially, they lived as shamanic clans on the lush world of Draenor. They abandoned their peaceful culture when Kil’jaeden, a demon lord of the Burning Legion, corrupted the orcs and used them in his vengeful plot against the draenei, who were exiles from Kil’jaeden’s homeworld.

Tauren

The peaceful tauren—known in their own tongue as the shu’halo—have long dwelled in Kalimdor, striving to preserve the balance of nature at the behest of their goddess, the Earth Mother. Until recently, the tauren lived as nomads scattered throughout the Barrens, hunting the great kodo beasts native to the arid region.

Forsaken

Death offered no escape for the scores of humans killed during the Lich King’s campaign to scour the living from Lordaeron. Instead, the kingdom’s fallen were risen into undeath as Scourge minions and forced to wage an unholy war against everything… and everyone… that they once held dear.

Trolls

The savage trolls of Azeroth are infamous for their cruelty, dark mysticism, and seething hatred for all other races. Yet one exception among the trolls is the Darkspear tribe and its cunning leader, Vol’jin. Plagued by a history of subservience and exile, this proud tribe was on the brink of extinction when Warchief Thrall and his mighty Horde forces were driven to the trolls’ remote island home in the South Seas during a violent storm.

Classes of World of Warcraft

Warrior
Warriors equip themselves carefully for combat and engage their enemies head-on, letting attacks glance off their heavy armor. They use diverse combat tactics and a wide variety of weapon types to protect their more vulnerable allies. Warriors must carefully master their rage – the power behind their strongest attacks – in order to maximize their effectiveness in combat.

Paladin

Paladins stand directly in front of their enemies, relying on heavy armor and healing in order to survive incoming attacks. Whether with massive shields or crushing two-handed weapons, Paladins are able to keep claws and swords from their weaker fellows – or they use healing magic to ensure that they remain on their feet.

Death Knight

Death Knights engage their foes up-close, supplementing swings of their weapons with dark magic that renders enemies vulnerable or damages them with unholy power. They drag foes into one-on-one conflicts, compelling them to focus their attacks away from weaker companions. To prevent their enemies from fleeing their grasp, death knights must remain mindful of the power they call forth from runes, and pace their attacks appropriately.

Hunter

Hunters battle their foes at a distance, commanding their pets to attack while they nock their arrows and fire their guns. Though their missile weapons are extremely effective, hunters are at a disadvantage when their foes close in, and often attempt to evade or restrain enemies so that they can continue fighting from a safe distance.

Druid

Druids are versatile combatants, in that they can fulfill nearly every role – healing, tanking, and damage dealing. It’s critical that druids tailor the form they choose to the situation, as each form bears a specific purpose.

Mage

Mages demolish their foes with arcane incantations. Although they wield powerful offensive spells, mages are fragile and lightly armored, making them particularly vulnerable to close-range attacks. Wise mages make careful use of their spells to keep their foes at a distance or hold them in place.

Priest

Priests use powerful healing magic to fortify themselves and their allies. They also wield powerful offensive spells from a distance, but can be overwhelmed by enemies due to their physical frailty and minimal armor. Experienced priests carefully balance the use of their offensive powers when tasked with keeping their party alive.

Rogue

Rogues often initiate combat with a surprise attack from the shadows, leading with vicious melee strikes. When in protracted battles, they utilize a successive combination of carefully chosen attacks to soften the enemy up for a killing blow.
Rogues must take special care when selecting targets so that their combo attacks are not wasted, and they must be conscious of when to hide or flee if a battle turns against them.

Shaman

During combat, shaman place damaging and controlling totems on the ground to maximize their effectiveness while hindering their enemies. Shaman are versatile enough to battle foes up close or at range, but wise shaman choose their avenue of attack based on their enemies’ strengths and weaknesses.

Warlock

Warlocks burn and destroy weakened foes with a combination of crippling illnesses and dark magic. While their demon pets protect and enhance them, warlocks strike at their enemies from a distance. As physically weak spellcasters bereft of heavy armor, cunning warlocks allow their minions to take the brunt of enemy attacks in order to save their own skin.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs took to the stage in Cupertino last March 2 to announce the that second version of the iPad the Apple iPad 2. This latest version of the iPad will be available on March 11 in the U.S. and by March 25 it will aslo be available in Mexico, much of Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Hardware Specs

On stage, Jobs touted the new design for the iPad 2:

It's 33% thinner and 15% lighter than the original iPad, but the screen size remains the same.
Apple says the battery life will be unchanged - up to 10 hours.
It will feature a dual-core A5 processor.
The iPad 2 will have two cameras. The front-facing VGA camera for FaceTime and a rear-facing camera that will capture 720p HD video.
The new device will come in 2 colors. Oh yes. The mythical white iPad will be available on the first day of sales, says Jobs.
The iPad 2 will run on both AT&T and Verizon's 3G networks.
It includes a new Smart Cover that offers screen protection and doubles as a stand.
A built-in gyro.
HDMI video mirroring, which will let you mirror your iPad screen on an HDTV.

The Operating System

The iPad 2 will come with iOS 4.3, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system. Its features include:

Faster Safari mobile browsing performance.
iTunes Home Sharing (finally).
Better AirPlay.
The choice to use the side switch as either a mute button or to lock the screen rotation.
A personal hotspot to share an iPhone 4's data connection over Wi-Fi (provided it's supported by your carrier, of course).
