Wearing high heels during your entire wedding day is not the only option. Many women buy flats — to wear either as their main footwear or to change into after the ceremony. There are several flat designs available, many of which are dyeable:

- Satin, soft-soled ballerina shoes look elegant and are good for indoor wear. Some designs come with a flattering ribbon that ties around the leg.
- Flat thongs or sandals are available as well. A strappy style is great for an outdoor or destination wedding, or for walking on rough ground.
- While most do not think of wedding tennis shoes as “flats,” they are definitely comfortable! You can go with a subtle white style or embellish a pair of tennies with detailing to match your dress.
- Hardsole, closed toe flats protect your feet better than sandals, are more flattering than tennis shoes, and are better for outdoor wear than traditional ballet shoes. Tanning Before Your Wedding

Exposure to sun is a good news-bad news proposition. The good news is that it’s the best source of vitamin D and gives you a healthy glow. The bad news is that too much sun dries out your skin, creates unsightly sunburn, and causes skin cancer. Yet, we tend to equate being tan with being healthy and want to look healthy as we walk down the aisle (plus, a white or ivory wedding dress looks pretty good offset by a tan). So, if you’re going to do it, here are some things to keep in mind:

* Before you tan, exfoliate your face and body. Use a very gentle exfoliant on your face and something a bit stronger for your body. Pay special attention to your knees, elbows, and feet, which tan darker than less dry parts of your body. Be generous with the sunscreen. The higher the SPF number, the better the protection.

* This is not the time to risk getting sunburned in a tanning bed or to try inexpensive self-tanners that may turn you orange.

* Instead, consider airbrush tanning. An expert can create a natural, “just back from the islands” tan without streaks or spots.

The bride’s shoes have been a source of fashion, and discomfort, throughout history. On a more positive note, a penny or sixpence was often placed in the left bridal shoe to assure a happy and wealthy marriage. Shopping for and purchasing a wedding dress is one of the most involved parts of wedding planning. The process can be exciting or harrowing, depending on how you approach it. Here are some tips to make your gown-buying experience fabulous:
- Be aware of fashion trends, but decide what features *you* like. Initially, try on several styles and settle on your preferred style, neckline, train length, waist line, detailing, and any other features you find important. Also, be aware that a wedding gown — like any piece of clothing — may have a different look from in front of a mirror than from across the room. Have someone take pictures of your favorite styles, then scrutinize them later. You may be surprised that the style you fell in love with doesn’t look so special in a photo. Or, a dress you weren’t sure about emphasizes your best features.
- Whether you are buying through a bridal shop or online, order the gown well in advance of your wedding — at least five to six months before the big day. This allows time to receive your dress and have alterations completed.
- For a perfect fit, plan on alterations. Ask around to find local seamstresses that specialize in wedding dress alterations. If you buy your dress through a local shop, they can likely help with scheduling fittings or finding someone to do alterations. Schedule at least two — maybe three — fittings. When it comes to fit, don’t settle for less than you really want. You will be wearing the gown for several hours and be immortalized in photos.
