Christmas market in the city center of Oslo

Today I went to the Christmas market in Spikersuppa in Oslo. Here you have a collection of small booths that sell everything from moose burgers and traditional Norwegian food to typical cool traditional handicraft stuff. It's located between the Parliament and the National theater. Perfect place for buying Christmas gifts!

They have also living rein dears that you can ride! When I was there, they had a break from the public but otherwise I would try to ride.

Mathallen - Oslo's new food court

Mathallen is located at Vulkan, Grünerløkka. This is a food court for everyone who appreciates high quality food and drink. You can buy and taste many different types of food, both suppliers of Norway and also some imported products. It is a very good place to get some new inspirations, and also for tasting and buying real quality Norwegian food. I love this place! This is definitely not my last visit.

Astrup Fearnley Museum Of Modern Art

Yeasterday I went to the new museum Astrup Fearnley, this is a modern art museum which present temporary exhibition of international art. The museum was originally located in Dronningens gate before it moved. September 29th this year, Astrup Fearnley reopened in a totally new building at Tjuvholmen. Renzo Piano, a world-renowned architect, designed the building.

The museum consist of two buildings - one for the museum's own collection and one for temporarily exhibitions.

Breakfast at Grilleriet in Oslo

Today I have been eating a wonderful buffet breakfast at Grilleriet by Folkeateateret. There are many things that you can choose from the buffet, everything from imported ham to Norwegian cheese to a classic egg and bacon and so on. You can also choose your own ingredients and then the chef will make your omelet, especially for you!

This buffet costs only 165 NOK per person at the moment.

Grilleriet is itself a very good restaurant, it's mainly a place with barbeque dishes. So if you are unsure on where you want to eat dinner, I would recommend this place for a good dinner in the city center!

Grilleriet has been named "best breakfast in Norway" for the Oslo region this year by several actors like Twinings.

Clarion Hotel Royal Christiania

I just visited Royal Christiania in Oslo. This is a quite big hotel, it's actually the second biggest hotel in Norway! They have 532 modern rooms and 21 conference rooms. The hotel is placed right by Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) and the Oslo City shopping center, so you have the main things around you at a very close range. This hotel is very famous in Norway and in the old days it was called "Viking".

This is the bed you will get if you have one of the suites, I think it looks so fresh and nice!

They have a swimming pool and also a gym that you can use during your stay.

I especially liked the picture on the ceiling over the pool.

The high-season has just started for the tourist information offices in Oslo. The upcoming month will therefore visit different hotels and restaurants so that we are updated on what we can offer tourists that come to us advice. I am going to blog about the different places I have visited. So this is my first post that I will share with you.

Café Sorgenfri is a very nice place, it can reminds you of a museum, packed with all kinds of things. So you can enjoy a good meal and look at all the things around you.

D/S Louise is a restaurant that has a beautiful maritime theme. "Seilbaren" is decorated with the rigging and sails from the famous Norwegian-tall ship Christian Radich.

Café Christiania is a café that has an atmosphere that is based on Norwegian culture from the first half of the previous century. We had a wonderful dinner and dessert!

Popsenteret in Oslo!

Today I went to the Popsenteret, this is a center for popular music in Oslo. You can go through the history of Norwegian pop music. You will find musical instruments and record collections amongst many other things. In a way, it explains the history of the Norwegian music through the years, and you can use your creativity to play around with music and make your own song and album cover, you can also get your song on MP3.

There are plenty of touch screens for you to play with. So if you are interested in music you will definitely have a great time, even if you're not Norwegian.

My day at Holmenkollen!

Today I have been to the famous Holmenkollen! It was very nice to see the ski jump and the ski museum. The ski museum is actually the world's oldest ski museum. How cool is that?!

I took the metro from the Nationaltheateret station in the city center and took line number one towards Frongerseteren. It took about 30 minutes and from the station it took 10-15 minutes to walk up to the main areas of Holmenkollen. It was a little bit icy, but absolutely worth dong it. I recommend good winter shoes! The trip with the metro was beautiful in itself, because you can see the view from one of the highest points in Oslo, the Holmenkollen ski tower! It's a real treat to see Oslo and the Oslofjord with such a beautiful panorama view.

I visited the ski museum first. The museum has a lot to offer, you can see old skis from Norway in all different types. In a way it explains the history of Norway, a ski country!

In conclusion I would say that a visit to the Holmenkollen area is absolutely recommended when you are planning your stay here in Oslo. The ski museum is also worth visiting, because you can see the world's oldest ski collection.

The World's longest gingerbread train at the Oslo Central Station!

At the Oslo Central Station, the Norwegian rail company NSB invited Oslo locals and visitors to build the world's longest gingerbread train. Schools and kindergartens from Oslo made their own carriage. It has been very popular and the gingerbread train was 206 meter and 617 carriages together. It was extremely cool to see this special event at the Central Station in Oslo! And NSB raised also money for charity! Cool, don't you think?

One day at the Norwegian Museum of Science & Technology

In the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology you have many options on what to do and see. It’s smart to have good time, because the museum has a lot to offer and it's a very big museum. They have themes like technology, industry, science and medicine. They also have over 20 permanent and temporary exhibitions about energy, oil, industry, medicine, airplanes, cars and trains. Something for all the tastes. At the moment they have an exhibition called “Mind Gap”. This exhibition was very interesting, because you can get to see different brains and installations. A work of art by the artist Robert Wilson. The coolest thing was in the first step of the exhibition, because the walls, roof and floor were in glass and it was very cool, and maybe a bit funny. Watch where you go!

I enjoyed the museum, even if it was not my first visit, as this attraction is a very popular place for schools in Norway. All the Norwegian students of all ages have been there.

In conclusion, the Norwegian Museum of Science & Technology is absolutely worth a visit! I also enjoyed the bus run from the city center to Kjelsås (but you can also take the train from Oslo S!), and on the way back I decided to walk along the river Akerselva in order to discover a very interesting part of Oslo, with industrial history and nature. Recommended!

My first visit at the Football Museum

I’m not the type of girl that is extremely interested in football, but of course I was curious about what the Football museum here in Oslo had to offer. I was actually very positive surprised. The museum was both interesting and fun at the same time. Here you can learn everything about the Norwegian football history, also the great International victories of the Ladies' Norwegian national team. You can see different football t-shirts, shoes, medals and more memorabilia. You can also play FIFA and table football, sounds fun right? I think so! All visitors are offered a guided tour around the stadium.

You will get the chance to see the Ullevaal stadium, try to sit on the seat used by the Norwegian King when he is attending football matches like the Cup Final, the players tunnel and the dressing room. There are guided tours in Norwegian and English every 45 minutes until the closing time, which I think it's a very good offer to experience Norwegian history from a "football point of view"!

The grass was still green during my visit in November, quite unusual!
