Valentine's Day Treat

The web is filled with valentine's day special treats and sweets. And, while I was looking for an owl themed valentine recipe, I came across these cute little guys by Sugar Swings. Aren't these super adorable!

These are really easy to create and will make a great gift to give to someone special. All you'll need are some heart shaped peppermint patties for the body, valentine's day m&m's for eyes, tootsie rolls for making the wings and royal icing to glue everything together. Serious. Take a look here.

Cup O' Art

Cheeming Boey AKA “Boy Obsolete” is a Malaysian born artist currently living in Newport Beach who makes amazing art combining two very simple things - disposable cups and Sharpie. It all started when he was sitting in a coffee shop and began to draw on trashed styrofoam cup because he had no paper. Gradually, he started to draw more and more and getting noticed by people around him for his artful cups.

His cups with the intricate designs and detailed works of art make anywhere from $200 to $1500 a piece. He became "the man behind the cups in Sharpie’s 2011 magazine ad for Sharpie Pen as part of the Start with Sharpie campaign" - Sharpie blog.

The second best green thing that you could do, after using recyclable products, is to transform the un-recycleable into art.

Hi, friends! I am starting a new section on My Owl Barn called "Owlsome Deal". In this section, I'll post about one product at a time that is made available on a special discount to My Owl Barn readers only for a specific time in a limited quantity. The product can be purchased at the discounted price only while the stocks last and while the deal is on. This means, if you see something you like, you should buy it. "Too late, too late will be the cry when the (wo)man with the bargains has passed you by".

Once the deal expires or the item is sold out. The items listed under "Owlsome Deal" will be archived forever and can be found under the "Owlsome Deal" category, but won't be available as an "Owlsome Deal".

How are the deals selected?

I am working with various merchants to bring you these deals. If you also make an owl themed product like art, pottery, clothing, paper goods, bags, toys etc. you can submit it for the "Owlsome Deal". Read the Merchant FAQ page for details. If you have a question that is not answered there then please feel free to send me an email at shivani AT myowlbarn DOT com with "OwlSome Deal" in the subject line.

Who is responsible for payments, shipping, customer support, refunds etc.?

My Owl Barn is working with merchants to bring specific products at a special discount to you. You are still buying the product directly from the merchant and you'll be directly dealing with the merchant for payment and any questions about your order. Merchant's contact information will be made available on the deal page.

It feels like one moment we were talking about Christmas parties, crazy shopping trips, family dinners and the next Valentine's Day. I can't believe how fast time flies. In a week it'll be February! With Valentine's day just around the corner I have bunch of fun posts lined up to share here. There will be recipes, DIYs, gift ideas and more with hearts, flowers, pinks, reds and owls! :)

Today's Valentine item is these little peek-a-boo note cards with a glittery heart, an owl peeking from the inside with the text "Guess whoo loves you?". Isn't it sweet! The card measure 2" x 3" which is perfect size to slip in a lunch bag, pocket or gift. It comes in a pack of four and includes envelopes with a scalloped edge.

Vintage Owl Radio

This cool vintage owl transistor radio was made in Japan in the 60s. It's claimed to be very popular and sought after item by collectors. I can see why. This little guy sells for anywhere from $100 to $200 a pop. I found one here.

Naomi makes the sweetest cakes ever that'll make you go "aw". Her cakes and treats are just perfect from color scheme to designs, and her owls are so cute that they always steal my heart. She recently made this polka dot owl cake for a birthday party. I am head over heels in L.O.V.E. with it. It's simple, modern and elegant!

Matte Stephen has been one of my favorite artists ever since I first discovered his work and blogged about his owls here. So, I'll wrap up this week with some eye candy by Matte Stephen. Wild Pulp

Wild Pulp was founded by C. Owen Smith in 2009 in New York City. He studied at Columbus College of Art & Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and traveled extensively, now living in Northeast Ohio.

These animal prints are from the series called "North American Animals In Bark', inspired by John Muir’s quote, “when we tug at a single thing in nature, we find it attached to the rest of the world.” The animals silhouettes are created spontaneously, he photographs barks of specific tree species through hand-cut paper templates, looking for the animal's spirit reflected in the world of flora that surround them.
