Do you ever catch yourself saying that? Saying “I wish I could…______”

I know I say it all the time; and the things I wish for are all over the map.

Mamakatslosinit Writers’s Workshop prompt this week is just that: “I Wish I Could…”

I think I could go on for days..or at least as long as the media coverage of Whitney Houston’s funeral; but instead I decided to time myself.  Five minutes.

Ok…timer set?

Check.

Hands on the home keys?

Check.

So, without further adieu, here is my list:

I wish I could…

Cure cancer and mental disease

Travel the world and live in a new place every year

Go to sleep at night in less than 5 minutes

Run as far at Forrest Gump did

Play the guitar like Brad Paisley

Sing on stage with Miranda Lambert

Be on a reality show with all my friends

Type faster

Dunk a basketball

Give my kids everything they need and teach them to work for what they want

Polish my own nails and it actually look good

Get a maid/nanny/chef/personal trainer for all working parents

Find the perfect pair of jeans

Start my own *fun* business

Find a grocery store that delivered

Convince Starbucks to start delivering

Find enough time in the day to do all the fun hobbies that I enjoy doing

Find the perfect hair style for rainy days

Figure out why my garbage disposal sometimes smells really baaaaaaaaad

Stop the wind (if you’ve ever been in Oklahoma, you know what I’m talking about)

Invent a pill that automatically clears up seasonal allergies

Write a book

Put a pool in the backyard

Sleep in tomorrow

aaaaaanddddd…that’s it! Five minutes! Done!

Hmmm…I wasn’t really prepared and I’m sure in the next five minutes, or five days I’ll come up with some really good ones!

Ahhh…  Those three little words.  The mean so much, don’t they?

I was sitting on the couch and reflecting last night…

Well, I was trying to sit and reflect…but Mackenzie was busy changing her school stuff from one backpack to another and for some reason this task gave way to many, many questions from the “daughter of a thousand questions”.

So…back to me.  I was sitting and reflecting.  Yes…kind of lost in thought…

“Mommy…do you want these school papers?” (From last year’s math book to keep forever and ever and ever because everything I touch is precious and wonderful and should be a keepsake.)

“Yes honey…put them in your tray and I’ll get them later.” (If later means 3 days past never, then yeah…)

Alright.  We’re sitting…we’re lost in thought…we’re…

“Mooooommmm…I found that library book, you know that one I was looking for…where should I…?” (You mean the one “I” spent two point five hours looking for and then finally said screw it and just paid for a new one…”that” library book?)

“Just put it in your book shelf.” (And the next time you say “I don’t have anything to read”, guess what book you’ll get to re-read…uh-huh, yeah…that’s one way to get my money back.)

Mmmmkkkkkaay… I’m sitting, relaxing, having a meditative moment.  I began to think that words…even only a few words…can mean so much.  They bring feelings of…

“Hey mom? I have two pairs of scissors, do you want one?” (You mean, do I want a pair of yours because you’ve managed to lose about 22 gazillion pairs of mine?)

“Yeah kiddo…that’ll be great.  Put them in the drawer in the kitchen.” (Or the trash, or just throw them in the yard because they’ll be lost by the weekend anyway…so why even try.)

They bring feelings of such heartfelt joy.  It’s like when you hear them, you just know that you are special…you feel special.  You feel…

“Uh-ooooh…Mom. Uh…Mommy? There was a pencil sharpener in the bottom my backpack and I didn’t see it so when I dumped my backpack it came apart and now there is a mess on the floor.” (A mess? On the floor? Well there’s something new. Like the Lego pieces scattered from here to there don’t qualify as a “mess”?)

“Ummm…ok.” (Eyes closed, hand to forehead, deep cleansing breath taken.)

You feel like…like…the luckiest person in the entire world! You hear those words and you just know it! You know that…

Then,

…without expecting it

…completely out of the blue

…you hear the most wonderful

…the most beautiful, three little words.

You hear…

“Where’s the vacuum?”

What?

Did I hear that right?

Did my sweet, little, baby angel of a daughter just say what I thought she said?

Did she say:

Where’s.

The.

Vacuum.

As in…she’s going to get out the vacuum, plug it in, turn it on and clean up her very own mess?

Those words?

Those three little magical words that can make a woman’s heart soar?

Ahhhh…and you thought true love didn’t exist?

Trust me friends…it does.  It really, really does.
