Hello my friends, how are you?

After a really awkward week we're off to some weekend relaxation, although some things know not of weekends and holidays for they keep bothering our hearts 24/7. This past Wednesday was My Paradissi's 3rd blogiversary but, due to the circumstances I didn't feel like celebrating. I found it a bit cynical that, in the 21st century, when everyone (at lest in the western world- sadly enough) has the right to speak up his mind, create a blog and write his point of view, our national public broadcasting service is shut down. This blog means the world to me. It came into my life three years ago to stay with me (with you), to host my dreams, my passions, my ideas; a creative outlet that keeps a part of my soul vibrant and alive. And this blog would have been nothing if it weren't for you, my friends. I owe you all a big THANK YOU for being a part of this journey, embracing, interacting, commenting, sharing my thoughts and images, being a live and vigorous company of My Paradissi. Thank you again and here's to many years of beauty and optimism! xoxo

It's all about the light, the warm hues on white background and a country freshness that make these shots irresistible. A happy home (and a few thoughts)

I know that this blog is all about happy and inspiring places and spaces but there are some days that it's not that easy to put a smile on the face and pretend that everything is fine. It's not. I'm fine, don't worry, but my country is not. I'm keeping this post simple and short as I don't want to give a political note to My Paradissi but here's what's going on in Greece since yesterday afternoon.

Our unstable and untrustworthy government, without previous notice, shut down all our national TV and radio stations last night. They literally shut the broadcasting signal off and all monitors got a black screen where the national channels used to be*. It is a well known fact that our national TV was having transparency and corruption issues and was in a dear need of some cleaning up and reorganizing. I wonder though, is this sneaky and sudden way the only way to fix things? Living in a country that choses to deal with problems without public discussion, voting or even a notice a few days before so as people know what's going on, makes me wonder in what king of democracy we're living in.

That being said, I'd like to share with you a few shots of Mandy Shadforth's beautiful house. Pretty interiors and cozy home scenes make me feel a tad more positive about life. I don't know why that happens, I prefer to just let it be without overanalyzing.

Su Gologone, Sardinia

I was really excited to stumble upon Su Gologone Hotel the other day. And the reason for that is that I always enjoy a design that incorporates so many folkloric and traditional elements in a fresh and stylish way. The warm mediterranean hospitality is present on every inch of this place, from the warm and cushy bedrooms to the green and shady patios. I've always known that all mediterranean countries share common history and aesthetics but I was overwhelmed by how much the style of this hotel resembles the Cretan one. I know that, given the chance to stay there, I'd feel totally at home.

Hello my friends, how are you?

This weekend I'm heading to the southern of Crete for some sunbathing and swimming into the still chilly (but crystal clear) sea waters. I'm also going to visit the real Paradissi, for which I can't even begin to tell you how exciting I am ;) I planning to practice my photography skills a bit more and, on top of that, completely switch off any other electronic devices. There is no internet connection where I'm going so this wont be hard. I think my brain starts to get burnt out but the overwhelming amount of information I'm getting each day through the net, which there is no time for my mind to process and absorb. I've read somewhere (see, I cannot even remember where or what) that the tremendous amount of superficial information we fill our heads with is gradually making us a dumb generation. That's pretty scary, don't you think?

Anyway, it's the weekend now. Let's have some fun! xoxo

DIY: Rope towel hanger

Catherine of On My Honor had the most brilliant idea, being inspired by Martha Steward, to create a cool towel hanger for her bathroom with the use of rope. Consisting of a few eye bolts mounted on the wall and thick natural rope, she adjusted a wall long hanger to host all her bathroom towels plus add a coastal vibe to it. I love to repeat that one of the biggest inexpensive luxuries in life is a crisp bed setting. Fresh smelling sheets, cushy pillows and soft throws can be your bff, even if you're in the darkest of moods. This feeling totally multiplies during summer weather. Imagine getting home after a long hot and sweaty day, have an invigorating shower and dive under your freshly washed bedding. I tell you, I'll never get over this experience. Who says that life quality comes with money?

I was never a fan of tiled floors (unless they are something like this) as I usually tended towards more sleek surfaces like concrete or unrefined ones like hardwood. But this floor is a masterpiece. The teal fishbone tiles and the overall modern ethnic decor in this moroccan home dining room have completely changed my mind. Don't you agree?

Eclectic house in Heraklion, Crete

The house I'm showing you today belongs to a dear friend of mine, Kallia. It is a two story narrow building, dating back to the mid century, that she inherited from her grandmother. This house brims with vintage design, from the concrete tile floors to the old wooden doors and windows and the cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms.

The overall architecture of the interiors is a typical example of the houses built in the city center during these years, consisting of plenty small rooms, instead of one large open space. The staircase is situated in the middle of the plan, vertically cutting the building in to two halves. Kallia took advantage of the numerous small rooms, practically giving each space a different use. On the ground floor there is the kitchen and the dining room on the one side of the staircase and her home office on the other. On the second floor, there is the master bedroom with the dressing room and the bathroom on the one side and the living room on the other.

Hello, my friends, how are you?

This week has been a great deal for me as, in case you have missed, I launched a second blog that's all about Greece. I know you love it when I post about sleek traditional hotels in Mykonos and Santorini, inspiring homes in the mainland, beaches and countryside, cities and small villages of my motherland. From now on, such posts will be a daily routine to Grecian Paradise, along with recipes, music, videos, traditions, information or whatever feels inspiring and concerns this country. I really hope you like it ^^

On another note, as summer is all over the place here, I feel totally distracted and unable to stay indoors and work. I wish I had even the tiniest of balconies to pop out every once in a while, do work breaks and sit there just gazing at the sky. Looking upwards somehow makes me smile, have you tried it?

DIY: Concrete lamp

I'm completely in love with this concrete pendant lamp! This amazing industrial chic lamp is made out of concrete and the molds being used for casting are a couple of soda bottles, with the small one placed inside the bigger to create the void for the bulb. My point is that, with cheap and reclaimed materials and a great idea one can do wonders! Visit Brit+Co to see the detailed tutorial and good luck with your try!
