I take my own photographs. It's kind of difficult because I have a timer (not a hand-held remote), which I set for 10 seconds. I click the button, run in front of the camera, strike a pose, trying to appear calm and then woila! A photograph. Yesterday, I ran in front of the camera, struck a pose, then a gush of wind pushes through and camera starts to fall and this shot was taken....lovely. I saved the camera from falling. Thank goodness!

Jewelry or clothes do not have to be expensive to be well made. I picked up these great link chains from a shop in the Alpine Village in Torrance. Alpine Village is known for their month long Oktoberfest. Besides that, there is NO ONE there except the regular old-timers eating their bratwurst and beer. Anyway, went there a few weeks ago, just browsing the shops and ran accross this old guy, who had a storefront, but did not use it as such. Instead, he stored EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING in this little tiny shop, i.e., paintings, clothes, furniture, jewelry; all piled up. The shop was so crammed with stuff you could not step two feet inside. So instead of selling from inside the store, the owner sets up a long table in front of the store and dumps jewelry into bowls for one to scour through. I found these for $10 dollars each. Nice heavy metal link chains.

Just finished making this necklace featuring African Trade beads closing with oval brass beads spaced with sterling silver Heishi beads. Love it!

African Trade Bead Necklace

Beads made by the Krobo people of Ghana. Powder glass beads are made by crushing glass to a fine powder and heating it so that the particles fuse together. The glass is then poured into clay molds, with a cassava leaf stem used to make the hole. They are baked in an oven and the glass fuses and the cassava stem burns up.

This technique has been used in Africa for centuries.

Even though my style is not prim and proper like Barbara Bush (nor would I want to), I can wear pearls (faux pearls) with my tomboy-style. Wearing my camouflage attire, the pearl necklace and self-made wooden earrings really sophisticates my look. Pairing my wooden earrings with the pearls is a perfect blend of earthiness and elegance.

Outfit inspired by my recent purchase of these awesome python print wedge boots Urban Outfitters (excuse the white socks). Originally the boots were $79 bucks. Rarely, do I buy at full-price. I did not here. Picked these up from the sale section, with a sale price of $29.99. Walked to the register, handed over the boots, clerk scans the shoe box, then says "10 dollars and 58 cents, please." I could not believe him and asked him to repeat the price. Yes, I purchased the boots for $10.58. "Score!"

INSPIRATION - Tibet

Every person has a their aesthetic - what they find beautiful. In my case, one of my main inspirations is Tibetan jewelry, which shapes the look of MY PEACE of JEWELRY. Take for instance these beads.

I bought them about two years ago at a bead convention in Santa Monica. They were the last set of beads. I failed to find what were the beads called. They're just beautiful. Having no clue what I would make with the beads, I stored, until I was inspired to make something.

I made these necklaces (just recently making the two strand necklace).

They are my favorites. I posted my three-strand necklace on Etsy asking for $150. A potential buyer emailed me asking if I would consider selling for $120. I replied, it's my only necklace and I don't have enough beads to make a second one and I don't know where to get more beads, but, if I am able to secure more beads and make a second one, then I will sell the original to her at $120.

So my pursuit began to find out about these beads. I searched the internet and finally had a name for the beads - Tibetan Agate dZi beads.

Even without any knowledge of the bead, I am still drawn to the Tibetan aesthetic.

General tidbits:

- The beads are a form of volcanic rock, semi translucent and hard.

- They're considered to have positive spiritual benefits and date back to 3000BC and thought to be protective amulets and even ground up and used in traditional Tibetan medicine.

dZi is pronounce "zee"

The meaning of the Tibetan word "dzi" translates to "shine, brightness, clearness, splendor". In Chinese, the bead is called "heaven's bead" or "heaven's pearl"

If you see my earlier posting (Sept 2010) , you will notice I've had this PEACE for a long, long time. It's not an easy PEACE to sell. It's what you call a statement necklace. One doesn't just throw it with a pair of jeans. Besides you have to have some cajones to wear it. It's not like I am selling to the celeb crowd; even though it would be nice.

Anyway, I say part II for this posting, because I have re-vamped this necklace AGAIN! It has gone from above to below.

I work for a major college in Los Angeles, where every year the campus is closed from Xmas to New Year's. Like most folks, I look forward to this time off, but not for the relaxation factor, but for my ability to commit my time to MY PEACE of JEWELRY. I work on new peaces and mannequins. It was a great stay-cation for creating.

It's pretty cold in Southern California right now - ok maybe not by New York standards - but it's cold to us. We are having to wear coats, scarves and even gloves! I commute to work by bike and my neck get's pretty cold. A turtle neck is an obvious choice for keeping the neck warm, but I ran across these really pretty blouses that I feel like I could even wear, especially considering with my jeans.

Lakewiew Cemetary in Seattle, Washington.

Driving around, my uncle decides to take us to the Lakeview Cemetary. It's a pretty huge. Unbeknownst to me Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee are buried there. If you go online there are several photos of people posing between their graves, which I am not going to post here, but I will post my own.

My brother took this picture. It's really cool. It's some moss on top of a wooden pole with me in the background. It's funny because he thought he made a mistake by having me blurry in the background. I think it's kind of neat.

If I had to say who's fashion sense I admire the most is this woman. I was browsing through various blogs, actually specifically through Van de Fashion blog and she had this posting about Julie Sarr. I love her style. It's effortless, chic, masculine with a feminine edge and comfortable. Would I have the balls to wear an afro?!? Not there yet, but I am definitely feeling the vibe.

Don't like the fact she smokes. Yuck!
