Just things you probably don't know about BahrainÜ See you!

1. Bahrain is known in history as the first country in the Middle East to discover oil reservation in 1932.

2. Bahrain is actually not a single place. The Bahrain State consists of 33 islands.

3. The name Bahrain is derived from 'thnain Bahr', 2 Arabic words that mean '2 seas'. The reason for this is the presence of sweet water springs in the sea. The sweet water from the springs mingles with the salty seawater, making it an ideal place for breeding of natural pearls.

4. In Bahrain, anytime during your travel stay you can freely visit a Christian church, eat pork, taste wine, watch some movies, and enjoy the bars and other entertainment centers.

5. The first Formula One Grand Prix in Bahrain was held on April 4, 2004, at the Bahrain International Circuit.

6. December and March are considered cold weather months. During the cold weather months, the thermometer records temperature of 10C as the lowest and 20C as the highest temperature.

7. King Fahad Causeway opened in 1986, this remarkable 15.5 miles (25km) feat of engineering links Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It is one of the most expensive bridges in the world.

8. There are no personal income taxes in Bahrain. No wealth taxes, no Capital Gains tax, no death duty tax or inheritance taxes.

9. Bahrain has an open and relaxed attitude, with a reputation as the most liberal country in the Gulf.

(The post title fits Bahrain perfectly – okay, so somebody have thought of it before I did :D I see that same line everyday all over the city.Lol)

Hey all! Long time no see.Ü I’ve been living and working in Bahrain for almost 3 weeks now. As I’ve said to my email to some friends, everything has been in between good and great.Ü I’m doing well and I’m glad to be here. This is a step towards the future – my future that I am so looking forward to!! Every day is a learning experience! I’ve met a lot of interesting people and found a couple of really nice new friends. Weeks after being away from home, I’ve already learned things not just about the place where I live now or the people I’m working with – but also things about myself. I’ve learned that I’m flexible enough to handle new things and adapt to new situations. Also, I’ve realized that there are things that you might think you’ll never be interested in but it will be a surprise when all of a sudden you feel that you’re open to learning new stuff. It’s great to know that it’s REALLY easy to just push the silver button – to wash your clothes. :D It’s amazing when you love to eat junk foods so much but it turns out that it’s possible to have a healthy diet – more greens, fruits, and lots and lots of water. Also, you can get used to living in a place where normal temperature ranges from 45-50 degrees Celsius! Whew! It’s also exciting and fun to learn to stand in your own two feet. So many new things right now and coming soon!

I’ll blog again when I have more time.Ü I miss Jon, home, friends and all of the other beautiful things in the Philippines!

I just had my PDOS at PASEI last Tuesday. I'm telling you, it was a really long one! I attended the morning session, it started at 8:00am and we finished at 2:30pm. It was a good one tho, a lot better than I expected. It was very realistic and I think it served as an eye opener and a reminder to a lot of attendees. Can't say that I learned a LOT from it, because I was already aware/informed of the things that were tackled during the seminar.Ü

Manila Ocean Park ~ It's a deeper experience!

We (Pop, Raf, Val and myself) went to MOP a week ago for Father's Day. I wanted to see it for myself and also wanted them to get to try it. I've already been to Underwater World in Singapore and Siam Ocean World in Bangkok, after those two I didn't think I need another visit to an ocean park. However, since it's our very own and it's new, I thought why not?

*Operating Hours: Mon-Fri, 10am-9pm Sat-Sun, 9am-9pm

*Admission: Adults (Php 400) Kids 4ft and below (Php 350)

Be there as early as you can to avoid falling in super long lines to buy tickets. We were there at 9:30 and it still took us around 15-20mins.

On the entrance before the ticket counters, make sure to get a number from the guard for your group. When you reach the area by the stage and the ticket counters, wait for your number to be called, that's when you can buy tickets. There are also numerous shops, kiosks and food stalls on the same area, so you don't have to worry if ever you need to eat or drink before entering the Oceanarium.

It says on the park brochure that the park tour flow journey can take about 2 hours to finish, but we finished after merely an hour. There were 'tour guides' around which I felt were there to add to the security personnels to monitor guests taking photos using flash. Flash photography is prohibited! (but of course, you can still use themÜ i don't see why it's not allowed - Underwater World and Siam Ocean World didn't prohibit guests to use it!)

Some park 'rules': They're not really strict about their rules!

Laser lights are prohibited.
Slippers and sleeveless undershirt are not allowed inside the Oceanarium! (Yeah right! There were tons wearing them!)
Food, beverages, candies and chewing gum are not allowed. (They won't let you in with your water bottles. Mine was covered, so the guard didn't see it.)
Smoking, of course, is prohibited.
Flash photography, as I mentioned earlier, is not allowed.
Touching and tapping of fish tank are strictly prohibited.

The Oceanarium is the first and largest aquarium facility in the Philippines. Experience a wide variety of species, such as sharks, fishes and invertebrates indigenous to the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Overall, it was an okay experience. It's an enjoyable place for kids! They'll love seeing the fishing and they'll love the feeling of being underwater. If you don't mind paying Php400 to be there for an hour, I suggest that you go and check it out for yourself. I've read a lot MORE negative comments from other blogs before we actually went there. Luckily, ours was not as bad as theirs! We didn't have any hours long waiting in line and no putok (bad odor) incidents. Eww.

There were areas within the park where the aircondition needs to be adjusted. It was hot! I think it was also mainly because of the large number of guests. Most of the places, since very crowded were really noisy so it was irritating. It felt like I was in the palengke (market)! There were constructions going on, within the park, also I think for the mall and the hotel, so expect to see construction workers around the area. The underwater tunnel was too short! 25-metes, that was it! They need to put more visible signs for the guests (exit, restrooms, clinic, etc.) I felt that Php400 was not worth it for the experience.

I'm happy that we now have our very own Oceanarium, but the management still needs to work a lot harder to do a better job in satisfying their guests. Goodluck!

What a busy busy month!

Over the last couple of weeks, so many things have happened that involved smiles, congratulations and even tears and goodbyes! It was all for the best. The busy month is over and I am moving on...

As what my good friend Lids over at Speak Up! announced, Lizeth is leaving! Yes, I am leaving. I've accepted a job offer in Bahrain and will be moving soon. The new company I've joined is one that I've always admired; I feel very excited to be working there and also looking forward to being a part of a new environment, culture with lots of history. So...yes, I am leaving. I am moving forward.

I feel the excitement of meeting new friends, learning new things, visiting new places and experiencing something I haven't done before. I am happy and I feel blessed for everything that is going on in my life right now.

With all these awesome things ahead, I will be leaving with fond memories of having met my greatest friends and working for 8 years at a place which brought me smiles, laughters and friendships! I will always remember. Thank you for everything!

How come majority of the Pinoys, including myself, don't know how to swim? Gasp. I know what is my reason. What is yours? :D

Mine: I blame (Lol) my Ninang for not teaching me how to swim when I was a kid! My parents are good swimmers, but Ninang took care of enrolling my older cousins to swimming lessons for summer vacations. Bakit ako hindi? Sigh.

Oh well. I will always need a lifevest. :D

Two Saturdays ago, I started getting really bad headaches. I took meds and hoped that it will go away. After a couple of hours, the headache was still there plus a toothache. Bummer! Over the weekend, I kept on complaining about it and Jon kept asking me to go and have it checked. :S I promised to have it checked as soon as possible on Monday.

At work on Monday morning, I could barely keep my eyes on the computer because of the pain and headache. I went to see our school dentist and she told me that I need to have it x-rayed for the wisdom tooth position to be checked. I went to several dentists: my dentist in Makati, dentist in Healthway but ended up going to our family dentist. With much pain since early morning, I still had to wait because I was patient #12. Finally, I got x-rayed and scheduled for operation for Wednesday. My right lower wisdom tooth was totally impacted. Having it removed was the only way to relieve the pain. The wisdom tooth was causing pain because it is pressing into the surrounding gum.

I started taking antibiotics the day before the surgery. It was removed under local anesthesia, so I was awake the whole time. It only lasted for 15 or 20 minutes. The surgery went well. It was painless but it was hell afterwards. It was really really painful! I took painkillers but my head still throbbed like crazy. I couldn't help but cry on the way home in the car because of the pain plus frustration! Why is this happening to me? The oral surgeon had a hard time removing my tooth. I felt him pull with all his strength for at least 6 times before finally getting it out. He also had to do bone reduction and cutting. He had to cut my tooth in two to make it easier to remove. I thought I was glad it's over, later I realized that it was just the beginning.

Days after, I didn't do anything other than rest, nap and 'eat'. The first two nights I was up all night and couldn't sleep because of the pain and discomfort. For over a week since it started hurting, I didn't get to eat a decent meal. I got tired of soup and liquids! I missed rice and ulam...real food. I could barely open my mouth. My jaw was stiff and sore, even though my face looked better..swelling just a little compared to last week. My cut was still throbbing though.

I was supposed to have my stitches removed last Saturday but when the surgeon checked, it was still open so I was asked to come back after two days. It was such a hassle because he didn't use the one that dissolves on its own but i was too busy feeling stressed before the surgery to ask about it. He said it was healing pretty good compared to others with the same case. Others continue to bleed, etc, so I am thankful. The space where my wisdom tooth was taken out can fit a man's thumb..that huge and deep.

Right now, I feel better, I can eat better...the pain is almost gone even though my jaw is still a bit sore. I'm just really really thankful to God that, finally, it's [almost] over. I'm telling you, it's not as simple as what you think. Honestly, those were the worst days of my life!

Litratong Pinoy #4: Hugis ay Pahaba

i like to experiment with the clothes i wear. as much as possible, i don't want to have a fixed standard look. i have no problem wearing a dress, shorts, short shorts, pants, mini skirts, long skirts, t-shirt, blouse..etc. BUT..for my i-want-to-be-comfy-days in the city (definitely not when you're at the beach!Lol) i like wearing jeans plus a top! simple and comfortable especially for somebody like me who has to commute.

(sa tagalog: mahilig ako magekperimento sa aking mga kasuotan. kung maari, ayoko na magkaroon ng iisang estilo sa pananamit. kaya kong magbestida, mag-nyorts, mas maiksing nyorts, pantalon, pagkaiksi-iksing palda, mahabang palda, tshirt, blusa at iba pa. NGUNIT..sa mga araw na gusto kong maging komportable sa siyudad ha (wag sa beach!Lol) mas gusto ko magsuot ng pantalon at pantaas. simple at komportable lalo na sa nagkokomyut na katulad ko.)

There are so many reasons to be grateful! I don't even know where to start. I thank God for his love and guidance. For giving me strength, hope, all the blessings and also challenges to make me stronger. I thank my family for their love. Pop for his guidance, support and faith in me. I owe everything to you. Mama for always caring and always thinking of what's best for her children. Across the miles, I feel your warmth and love. My brothers, I'm thankful for the laughter and joy we've shared all through the years. You've supported me all throughout. Thank you for believing in me and being proud of me. I'm grateful to my friends who shares my passion and adventures, who listens and cares about me, who supports me. I am so thankful for the love you give me, Jon. I am grateful that I have you and grateful to God for giving us the means to be together. I am truly grateful for my life right now...grateful for every moment i've had, am having and will have with you. Thank you for the smiles, laughter and happiness that we always share together.

Litratong Pinoy #3: Apat na Kanto

this notepad was given to me by a parent at work for christmas last year as a gift. it's a set that includes four pads, the other ones states: i can, celebrate, believe and hope. all four are little square-shaped pads. i've decided to use these photos mainly because it sends an inspiring message for women out there.

notice the square-shaped binder holes and of course, the pad itself.

(sa tagalog: ang sulatan na ito ay bigay sa akin ng isang magulang bilang regalo noong nagdaang kapaskuhan. apat na pirasong maliliit na sulatan ang bumubuo sa set na ito, ang mga nakasulat: kaya ko, ipagdiwang, maniwala at pag-asa. ang apat na ito ay maliliit na hugis parisukat. naisip kong gamitin ang mga larawang ito sa kadahilanang maganda ang ipinahihiwatig nitong mensahe para sa atin na mga kababaihan.

...that i so appreciate, even made me teary.

i know that i've blogged about having been blessed with really amazing bosses. it's one of the major reasons why i love my job! my bosses are awesome!

okay..i know YOU envy me so i pray that you will find yours too.

this morning, they did something that i didn't expect. it showed me how much they value and care for me as a colleague, as a person. they anticipated something that they knew would help me...for that i am so thankful and grateful.

my bosses are supportive, appreciative, generous..they're also fun, intelligent and caring individuals (i know one of them would want me to tag them as 'cool!' so, okay..they are cool!Lol). they genuinely care for us and don't take advantage of their positions. i'm sad that the two of them are leaving in 2 months, but i wish them all the best and i know we'll see each other again.
