In an event for tech-bloggers and reviewers, today Nokia officially launched the Nokia N900 in India. The dream geek device will finally be available, but at a steep price of Rs. 30,639.

After the announcement, all the bloggers, reviewers and geeks present there were taken for a spin on four-wheeled rally cars, an effort by Nokia representatives to show us the errors of our literary ways -- we should have become rally-drivers instead. No really, Nokia compared the experience to the speed and thrill of owning an N900 device.

The Nokia N900 with Linux-based Maemo software with usable terminal takes us into a new era of mobile computing. Also it's a device (mobile) which actually has a swap partition which can run nearly any open source software, since it has a proper Linux distro, unlike Android. You can install deb packages from a repository, and there is no dearth of free software for Maemo -- the version of Linux which runs on the N900.

You can run a virtualization application to actually emulate and run PC operating systems on it, and this is the famous phone that actually managed to boot an older version of Mac OS for PPC using the PearPC emulator !

After putting so much into one little device, unfortunately Nokia decided to give it a resistive screen, which does not do justice to its capabilities. The price too, at around 30,000 is much higher than what it sells for across the sea.

YouTube XL Optimises Online Video For TV

YouTube (Famous website for watching videos online) has taken its first steps to ensure that the online video has a place in living rooms around the globe, by making browser-based version of the site that's made especially for viewing online videos on big-screen TVs.

Last January, YouTube launched a version of the site for viewing through a PS3 or Wii, which was fine but the navigation left lot to be desired.

YouTube XL fixes this by adding large text and simplified navigation and offers continuous playback.

Also, if you have a Bluetooth enabled remote, you will be able to flick through the site as you would a TV channel.

The new layout of YouTube XL is impressive. The main box is made up of an easily scrolled list of videos, with big-button categories on left-hand side for easier navigation.

Thankfully, the likes of suggested videos and comments have also been stripped from the site, which makes for much cleaner interface.

If it wasn't for the fact that some videos aren't available due to rights restrictions, we might even want to use YouTube XL as main way into YouTube on our computer, let alone for viewing on a big-screen TV.

Rechargeable Batteries are given a certain number of "Charge Cycles" Before they wear out, but what exactly is a charge cycle and how can you findout how long your battery will last?

Many laptops, pocket media players, mobile phones and some digital cameras use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that can be recharges a certain number of times before they wear out. Most of the companies define battery life by its number of "Charge Cycle" which generally refferes to the process of using up all the battery's power and fully recharging it, not the number of times you happen to plug ge battery into a power source to recharge it.

For example, say you play your fully charged iPod for several hours and run the battery down half way. At night, you recharge it all the way, and next day you run the battery down to half its powr again before fully recharging it. Because you drained only half the juice twice, that counts as one charge cycle instead of two.

Batteries on different devices have their own estimated life spans based on specific amount of charge cycles and use, and factors like very high or very low external temperature can also decrease the battery life. you can usually find information in the technical specifications for the battery or device, either in its manual OR on the manufacturer's Website.

Dell, for instance, keep electronic copies of its product manuals online at support.dell.com. In the section describesing its Latitude CPt CSeries laptop battery, Dell states that the battery has a life span of 500 full charge cycles or 2000 partial charge cycles at normal room temperature.

The Church and it's Powers

In a small town in America, a person decided to open up his bar business, which was right opposite to a church. The church and its congregation started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayed daily against his business.

Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the bar and it was burnt to the ground.

The church folk were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the bar owner sued the church authorities for $ 2million on the grounds that the church through its congregation & prayers was ultimately responsible for the demise of his bar shop, either through direct or indirect actions or means.

In its reply to the court, the church denied all responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons to the bar shop's demise. In support of their claim they referred to the Benson study at Harvard that inter-cessionary prayer had no impact !

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork and at the hearing and commented:

"I don't know how I am going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an entire church and it's devotees that doesn't."

How does the Conficker worm work?

The Conficker worm is a computer worm that can infect your computer and spread itself to other computers across a network automatically, without human interaction.

WORM: Win32/Conflicker attempts to make numerous connections to the computers across the network finding new hosts (systems) that have weak passwords, shared files on network, removable disks, outdated Security updates.

Computers on the network without latest Security updates OR outdated updates may get infected with the worm.

Computers with open shares and Shared network files on network can easily targeted by this worm.

Removable devices like USB Pen drives, Flash Drives, USB sticks, External Hard Drives may get infected with this worm and infect other computers where these media will be used for data transmission.

Shared Computer with weak password may get infected. So, make sure to keep strong password. Also use Numbers and Special Characters while setting Passwords.

Computers with a proper Password Policy, current Security Updates, Antivirus OR Security Software and Secured Network Share are protected from Conflicker Worm.

Never underestimate your Clients' complaints, no matter how funny
they might seem!

This is a real story that happened between a customer of General Motors and its Customer-Care Executive. Pls read on.....

A complaint was received by the Pontiac Division of General Motors.

"This is the second time I have written to you, and I don't blame you for not answering me, because I sounded crazy, but it is a fact that we have a tradition in our family of having ice-cream for dessert after dinner each night, but the kind of ice cream varies. Every night, after we've eaten, the whole family votes on which kind of ice-cream we should have, and I drive down to the store to get it. It's also a fact that I recently purchased a new Pontiac and since then mytrips to the store have created a problem.

You see, every time I buy a vanilla ice-cream, when I start back from the store my car won't start. If I get any other kind of ice-cream, the car starts just fine. I want you to know I'm serious about this question, no matter how silly it sounds. What is there about a Pontiac that makes it not start when I get vanilla ice-cream and easy to start whenever I get any other kind?"

The Pontiac President was understandably skeptical about the letter, but sent an Engineer to check it out anyway.

The latter was surprised to be greeted by a successful, obviously well-educated man in a fine neighborhood. He had arranged to meet the man just after dinner time, so the two hopped into the car and drove to the ice-cream store. It was vanilla ice-cream that night and, sure enough, after they came back to the car, it wouldn't start. The Engineer returned for three more nights. The first night, they got chocolate. The car started. The second night, he got strawberry. The car started. The third night he ordered vanilla. The car failed to start.

Now the Engineer, being a logical man, refused to believe that this man's car was allergic to vanilla ice-cream. He arranged, therefore, to continue his visits for as long as it took to solve the problem. And toward this end he began to take notes: He jotted down all sorts of data: Time of day, type of gas used, time to drive back and forth etc.

In a short time, he had a clue: The man took less time to buy vanilla than any other flavor. Why? The answer was in the layout of the store. Vanilla, being the most popular flavor, was in a separate case at the front of the store for quick pickup. All the other flavors were kept in the back of the store at a different counter where it took considerably longer to check out the flavor.

Now, the question for the Engineer was why the car wouldn't start when it took less time. Eureka - Time was now the problem - not the vanilla ice-cream!!!!

The engineer quickly came up with the answer: "Vapor Lock".

It was happening every night; but the extra time taken to get the other flavors allowed the engine to cool down sufficiently to start. When the man got vanilla, the engine was still too hot for the Vapor Lock to dissipate.

Even crazy-looking problems are sometimes real and all problems seem to be simple only when we find the solution, with cool thinking.

Place no more than three items on an end tabke - cluster these varied but related items together for more impact.

3) Paint to Impress: Paint, as you know, makes the most dramatic change for the money. Be bold, be daring and most importantly - don't do white! Choose a complex colour. This simply means if you would use several different words to describe the colour that it is probably complex. For Example; if you said it was a kind of "Gold, strawish colour" than it is probably a complex colour. If you said "just yellow" - it probably is not a very inspiring lok. A beautiful colour on the walls can make the room go from ordinary to extraordinary.

4) Make it Personal: Decorating your house is a job but styling your home is fun. Personalisation is putting your interests, hobbies or values into your decor to really make it your own. Buy simple - read inexpensive - curtains at your local big-box store and then buy exquisite wide ribbon to hot glue on the edge.

5)Change with the Seasons: You know the drill - lighter brighter for summer and darker richer for winter. This easy task of changing the fabric items around the home can help you make it seasonal. Change out placements, bath towels, and accent pillows. The final touch is to purchase a seasonal bouquet of flowers. Decorate your bye spending time not money.

By following these tips, you can make a huge impact by bringing your home from average to spectacular for very little money.
