Dear all,

Recalling incidents from the early days of Jin.

He is now about a year old. The summer time has set in. He makes a crying face at night when we ask him to sleep outdoors. We prepare his bed consisting of an old bamboo mattress, few old clothes (used by us - he likes those) and a square pillow.

Once I bought him a red rubber tennis ball. We were trying to teach him how to play with it. He took it upstairs. Few other balls he would just try to chew them away. But this one he kept it on his bed upstairs. He was quite possessive.

Dealing with illness

Once he fell ill, stopped eating. He was also scratching madly, almost peeling his skin off. So very difficult with pets. He was just collapsing. Finally after a couple of days we consulted a vet. He advised some de-worming tablets. And he gave me some strips free of cost. Looking after street dogs was his hobby. We don't realize it but there's a lot of goodness around.

Then we gave Jin a dosage of tablets for about a week. He was very drowsy and used to eat very less. Mom took really special care of him. Very attached. You have to be with him. Then very slowly, he raised, started eating and evidently the intensity of scratching stopped. He was so good to see.

Jin a source of joy

There are some really special things about Jin. Whenever the gate opens, he used to run out like a jet. It's a sight that used to make us awkward. He used to play on the street for a long time and come back for meals. But when we would go out he would remain near the gate watching for our return. Even it be an hour, he misses so much. On our returning he would jump, lick, yelp and run around out of joy. His happiness is matchless. So is ours.

He has this habit of forgetting me when others are around. Actually, our newspaper delivery man had brought him home. He is also very attached. Frequently he too comes and gives him some biscuits. Then is when Jin forgets me. But he comes around eventually.

Memorable moments

In the early times, we also had the problem of him dropping feces in the neighborhood. But after a lot of scolding he overcame it. He also used to go into everybody's houses and bite away rubber or leather slippers, shoes and the like. Several times they came complaining, but we told them to keep their dear belongings further up and out of reach. And also they and their kids were also taking Jin to play whenever possible. All are very fond of him.

He has this unique nature of being caressed and loved affectionately. So all the neighbors also tolerated, out of love for him. And also as Mom was feeding him very nicely. They liked to see him growing and being healthy. Often, the neighbors also used to take and feed him chicken, mutton and other leftovers. He could not eat food back home. So we advised them to relax and they reduced.

Jin is the favorite of all the three streets. In the early days all houses used to welcome him, feed him well, play with him and then let go. But after he came to stay with us they refrained.

There are yet lots of lovely moments, which would be covered in the coming days.

Dear All,

Wishing to share my joy every day with my pet Jin. Jin is actually a street dog. During the sundry times of covid-19, our great respite.

Day One - Jin looked at me from across the road. You can say it was love at first sight.

He came into the family and is with us ever since. There was this wonderful creature moving in the bunch of dogs. Daily when I used to go on my bike we could spot each other out. Actually I was praying to God for some unconditional love.

Jin is a she but we consider as him. One fine day he just walked in. Mom loved him. So attractive, eye-catching, adorable, friendly, naughty. But he was very restless.

He has all these friends whom he would love to go out and play with. But mom started feeding him regularly with the leftovers. He used to have them hungrily.

But the first day is so very memorable. He came, we all were sitting in the drawing room watching TV. He came wagging his tail and shook hands with each one of us. He raises his front paw for the shake hand.

Jin was overjoyed to be with us. He turned over, lying on his torso, was smiling to himself. This was his regular habit for the first few days. Several times others and I spotted him this wise.

Mom being very particular about cleanliness, tried to keep Jin indoors. But initially, he was in-hold-able. He just wanted to eat and run and play with his friends on the street.

He (actually she), has a lot of boy friends. Mom spotted him running in the midst of the group totally carefree. He too saw mom and from the end of the street, he came bowing his head to one side and came and fell at mom's feet. He came showing his left cheek, saying, slap me. But as he came near, he put his paw forward for a shake hand.

Saying I know I'm wrong, I know I'm wrong but please forgive me Ma. He would then en-circle my mom with his paws, hugging tight so she cannot beat him. But mom would just turn to ice seeing him. So lovely, so adorable, heart straight from heaven. His eyes in particular.

Whenever anyone tries to rebuke him, he just puts his front paw forward for a shake hand. He knows only that.

He was and is very agile, swift as a cheetah. In a second, he would be at the end of the street. And the very next second he would be with us. Like a flash. He could jump walls, fences, ditches and son on. In the early days he would just run out as soon as the gate is opened. Go a bit far, then look back if we are still watching him, do they care? Then he would come back hiding behind trees, vehicles but watching us to see if we were still looking for him. That's Jin.

Other equally popular novels by Sir are The dogs of war, The Odessa file, The fourth protocol and so on. All the books are heavily informative, plots are intriguing and most of his books are international best sellers.

Jack Higgins is another writer about second world war stories. Other famous books by Sir are The Eagle has landed, The Eagle has flown. In the first the Germans capture a full English village. But when a small boy falls into a river, the uniform gets exposed and the enemy is revealed. The soldier who dives to rescue dies in the attempt. This is the turning point ... A book which is a total page turner, suspense thriller that keeps you on the edge. A must to read.

Sea Water For Sanitation

Dear All,

The entire marine industry utilizes sea water for Sanitation and general housekeeping. Sea water is also used as secondary coolant for engine cooling, jacket water cooling, air conditioning, deck washing, ballast and so on.
Why is it not being used on land ? How are countries in middle East namely Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq ... etc managing ?
They are using large de-desalination plants that cost a fortune for installation and maintenance. They also import fresh water.
But for Sanitation all use sea water.
If we too use sea water for Sanitation and house keeping lot of lives can be saved. It is just a matter of pumping, supplying and distributing the sea water into households.
Separate lines can be laid out for the same.
Even for firefighting.
God has supplied us abundantly. let us embrace wisdom and make it a better place.
The fresh water from rivers can be used for the more domestic purposes like dish washing, clothe washing, bathing ...
It is a must that every household be supplied with the sea water line.
A further development would be using Gomutra (cow urine) for purification of seawater. It is the Ram banam (God's Arrow), a panacea that can purify everything and anything. Glory be to God !!

Continuing with our blogs on Speed Math. All these techniques are to be practiced daily for at least 15 minutes to get full advantage of them.

{ Sharing - recently lost someone very dear. Please bear with me. So took a break from blogging. But one has to continue working. As this topic is very useful for students, teachers and parents. It is futuristic as it addresses and refines our fundamentals. Once simple calculations can be handled in the mind, our study in various Science subjects becomes easier.

Base method multiplication extension

20 as base number

So, as is obvious, the left side of the result is arrived by adding diagonally. The right side is the product of the difference above or below the base numbers. Then the left side is to be doubled as 20=10x2. Only one digit is to be left on the right side.

The expansions are:-

23 x 26 = (23+6)20 + (3x6) = 29*20 + 18 = 580 + 18 = 598
18 x 21 = (18+1)20 + (-2x1) = 9*20 -2 = 380 - 2 = 378
22 x 31 = (31+2)20 + (2x11) = 33*20 + 22 = 660+22 = 682

The expansion is for knowledge purposes only. The above method of separating left and right side of the answer by a slash gives one speed.

Thinking further, we can take any base number that is generally a multiple of 10. If the base number is 30 we do x3 for the left hand side, if 40 we do x4, if 70 we do x7 and so on. Generally, it is best to take base number between the given numbers. The whole idea is to avoid the pen and still be right. But taking the subject in capsules makes it easy to digest.

Another way of adding numbers

      +25            +5   +10
Ex:     125+85+90+105+110
                -15 -10

Take 100 as the average. Above and below mark the differences. The net difference is 15 {+10 and -10 just cancel out}. Now we have five 100's that make 500. Adding 15 gives the final answer as 515.
Averaging and adding is much better than running for the pen, writing in columns and then adding. With practice, this can easily be done in the mind.

Ex:     45.50+89+32+65.50+17
          -4.50    -18             -33

Take the average as 50. Managing the differences, 15.5-18 gives -2.5, -4.5-2.5 gives -7, 39-7 gives 32 and 32-33 gives -1. So as we have five 50's that make 50x5=250. Taking -1 out of it gives us the final answer as 249.

This is one of the best ways of adding numbers. Its no fun running for the rough paper time and again.

Despite being a celebrity Ravi mingles easily with everyone

Ravi Teja is one Telugu hero who easily mingles with everyone. He is featured in more than 50 movies. Some of the hits include Amma Nana Telugu Ammai, Kick, Balupu, Khadgam, Idiot, Bhadra, Venky. He also features in the Forbes list of celebrities top 100 from India. He is basically from Vijaywada. His comedy and punches are bang on target. We watch some clips again and again. Like the hotel scene in Balupu, where he comes in yellow shirt. In fact most of his movies are deserving replay. The song in Balupu is worth mentioning. The cinema world was birthed with the view of relief for the tormented soul. And actors who are more like doctors deliver the goods. Amongst a sea of talent one with unique qualities only shines. Once done, not to be forgotten is the buddy with whom we used to roam. We in our circle are huge fans of Ravi Sir. God bless.

This is a topic of debate over centuries now. The little girl in washing powder Nirma advertisement is notable. If a celebrity endorses a certain brand, obviously its popularity would grow. The sales would shoot up. The other side of the coin is that - what if the particular brand be not up to the mark, yet be endorsed by a celebrity?
Practically seeing, all brands differ on suitability from person to person. Right from tooth pastes, soaps, powders, hair oils, etc. it is the celebrity that makes the difference. Common man really cannot go around testing every product. He watches the TV and makes opinion on what he would use.
But nowadays, things are not all that simple. The celebrity is generally already a health being, so it is obvious that it is not the usage of a certain product that has made him or her special. The point is more like the positive and the negative effects of cosmetics. If we notice the skin of some of the older folk, it maybe be wrinkled but one can notice the unmistakable richness in the quality thereof. The rich skin is spotless without a blemish, smooth, colour sustained, soft. To be very frank the exploitation of the human mind under cosmetic industry does really continue. God has made all human beings beautiful. It is only man who tries to prove his superiority by roundabout means. Did we know that there are certain remote places on the earth where there is no ageing? If they are remote, it means that they are also out of reach of exploitation.
That does not mean that cosmetics are totally bad for normal persons. Every individual does go out once in a while. It gives a shade of grace when applied meticulously. Whenever overdone or underdone, the results are ballistic. Have you ever tried hair dyes? These can destroy one's scalp. There are so many chemicals, that if your skin is sensitive, it can have devastating effects. On the other hand, natural Henna does not have any side-effects.
Nowadays, small sachets are available for mostly every brand. So it would be quite wise to test before purchasing the big bottle. Well as long as the earth lives, the market place would be there, the need for more and more natural products would always be there. But we note, that only natural does not give fast results. So a need for well balanced, tested, engineered and doctored products must be endorsed by the celebrities.

Continuing with the series on simplifying mathematics.

Multiplication:-

Base number multiplication. People look at it oddly but the system is more than centuries old.

Base number 10.

+2 +7

12 x 17 = 19 / (2*7) = 19 / 14 = 20 / 4 = 204.

We put the differences from 10 above the numbers ie +2 & +7. There are a left side and right side of the answer. For the left side we add diagonally, 12+7 or 17+2 ie 19. For the right side we multiply the differences ie 2*7=14. Only one digit is to be kept on the right side, so we carry forward 1 out of 14.

So, finally we get 20 on the left side and 4 on the right side. And the final answer is 204. Rather than memorizing tables, we do have an alternative. We do earn high degrees but find it difficult to fine-tune the basics.

Some more examples:-

+5 +8

15 x 18 = 15+8 / (5*8) = 23 / 40 = 270.

+6 +7

16 x 17 = 16+7 / (6*7) = 23 / 42 = 272.

So, by this method, multiplication tables up to 20 are covered. Please practice this so one does not have to mug up tables again. Generally, it is advisable to create a multiplication table like this.

We go on filling in our free time. Only one or two times we write to understand the syntax. Once that is done we put the pens down. Its easily done in the mind.

Note:- The actual expansion of the method is something like this.

+2 +4

12 x 14 = ?

Adding diagonally we get 12+4 = 16. We multiply by base 10 to get 16*10=160. Now we add the result of multiplication of differences ie 2*4=8 to this to get 160+8 = 168. If one does not understand this expansion, one can always follow the method given in the beginning.

A legend is always born and cannot be made. Viru ji is unique. The batting style, the approach towards the game and the composed nature. Unravelled by any opposition bowling. Dear All,

Continuing on our series of different methods of dealing with calculations. Taking help mainly from Vedic Mathematics, then from Abacus and other ancient techniques. They work fine.

Subtraction:-

We do from left to right. As we read from left to right, why do we do math from right to left? The endeavor here is to develop from left to right. It builds speed.

Eg:- 26-5 = 21, 26-9 =?

Generally we borrow from the ten's digit and then do 16-9=7 for the unit's place. Then we get answer 17.
But now, we do subtraction by 10's compliments.
1 9, 2 8, 3 7, 4 6, 5 5 are compliments as they add up to 10.
Now for 26 - 9 = 26 - 09 = 2/ 7 = 17.
2-0=2, as 9 is greater than 6. We take the compliment of 9 ie 1 and add it to 6 to get 7. Now whenever you use compliments slash the digit on the left ie reduce it by 1. Here 2-1=1. So the final answer is 17.

Eg:-    5643       7521
     -1254         - 4382
          -------         --------
          44/9/9           32/4/9
          4389               3139

Whenever the lower digit is higher, just take the compliment and add, next lower the digit on the left by 1 by marking with a slash.
So, no borrowing or carrying in our head. This is a time-tested approach and it takes away our struggle.
Some more examples. {as writing so doing, it is that simple}.

{Remember, here we have used the slash, but actually you just strike out the digit to the left when required and reduce it by 1}

Hope, the reader is practicing the methods stated so far. Now we come to the thought that, it would have been very nice had there been some simpler methods in subtraction.

Nikhlam Sutra - All from 9 last from 10.

   -----      ------- -------------    --------------

This is the beauty of Vedic Maths. This is applied when we have zeroes in the first number. Starting from left, we just subtract every digit from 9 and the last from 10. The first digit on the left is reduced by 1 whenever the Sutra (formula) is a applied.
Generally, in monetary calculations we do have to often subtract from large numbers in zeroes. Isn't it amazing?
Hope, this short session was useful.
As mentioned before, people going for competitive exams, do only Vedic Maths. One starts answering the questions in the text books by different methods. Once, you have innovative ways of calculation, whatever the degree might be, one's approach is always simple. In some of the sessions, the people generally ignore with a bored look, but someone who is not so good at math, just catches the method. To everybody's amazement he or she shoots answers like crazy.
So, not to be all that bookish. To understand math with logic and reasoning. To apply Sutras (formulae) whenever we get calculations. The subject is really very vast. But for the time being elementary methods are more than enough for our usage. It actually goes into all the chapters in Mathematics.

People spend lot of time hunting for shortcuts to success. We speak, brag a lot about Vedic Maths because it is definitely worthy to be praised.

How many munchies treats are safe for dog consumption?

This can only be confirmed by experimentation according to the needs of the particular pet.
We mix some bits with rice & curd or any other curry that we make at home. Any pet would like some of the natural food too. He does consume food nicely when we add the treats. If he is having food in 1/2 kg bowl, we give him 5 to 10 treats maximum. He likes the chicken flavor in particular.
We prefer giving him some chicken boneless chicken pieces usually once in 3 days. He likes them so much; he doesn't take food without these. Same goes with treats. If you over- dose then he wouldn't take any other food.
This could be entirely different for business purpose pets. But for domestic purpose pets above stated is okay according to our experience. The main goal being our pet must enjoy good health.

Our pet was also having severe rashing, ithching, scratching ... We tried home remedies like eating green grass, rice with curd but not very effectual. So tried to approach a vet but really could not take the pet to the shop. Meanwhile, he also was getting loss of appetite, energy loss and just collapsing. Then met a friend who advised de-worming tablets to the full course. We mixed with food and gave. It was very tasteless but somehow he ate. The value of zero.

Dear All,

This is an endeavor to further our understanding of the fundamentals of Mathematics. It is not always the hard-work or the work-hard that receives adulation. Here, we will be enumerating a series of methods different from our regular practices to ease up our calculations. Once this area is covered, people can concentrate more on the reasoning and logic in Maths. God has actually provided for us early systems like Vedic Mathematics, Abacus and so on. They are very difficult to be picked up at later stages in our lives. If one is already in college or job, where do we get the time for these extra efforts.
But believe me dear readers, Vedic Mathematics is the game changer. One does not need to memorize anymore. One who is really good at math in our schools, colleges and institutions, hardly studies. This is mainly because of the techniques used.
On observation people especially those going for competitive examinations do need some skills and have to acquire them fast. If one is asked to go through long tables like 14*19, 16*18, 15*16 ... very difficult. But those who are exposed to these methods find relaxation from the pain of mugging the tables or memorizing them.
We learn our subjects in schools, colleges, and private tuitions. So, there is actually no need to repeatedly discuss the same things. Once people know these methods, they practice them alone. More later, lets get into action :-

Addition:-

(Never add more than 10 )

eg:- 23 + 52 + 75 = ?, Ans = 150.

Suppose we write in columns one below the other and add. Whenever the total comes to above 10 just send the extra forward, mark the left side column with a underscore or dash. If we get 17 we keep 7 and forward the 10. So we continue adding with the 7 in our mind.

But actually we don't even follow that. We add row-wise and put the answer just there. Add the tens first and later add the units digits. We do reading and not adding in our mind. 20 + 50 = 70. In the mind we don't say 20+50 but just 20 then 70. Hope that's clear. Reading and not adding. It comes through practice and is far more enjoyable.

In the above example, we do 20 70 140 143 145 150.

596 + 683 + 497 + 6254 = ?, 80/3/30 , Ans = 8030.

Just visualize this as
5/96 + 6/83 + 4/97 + 62/54
{just separating with a slash. Now we add the tens. We do only reading not adding.
So, 90 170 260 310 316 319 326 330. We have 330, we keep the 30 on the right and move the 3 forward. For the left side 5 11 15 77 and the 3 makes it 80.
The final answer is 8030.

Actually, I'm first answering then explaining in this article. It is so fluent. Vedic Mathematics is the turning point in our approach towards the subject. People who are good i.e 75% will get into the 95-100% range and those who don't like Math will definitely start loving it. These are the foolproof methods that never go wrong. Just when we follow and appreciate our God given gifts, struggles are not reduced but they just vanish.

7589 + 4152 + 3544 + 1879 = 169/2/64 , Ans = 17164.

We visualize as 75/89 + 41/52 + 35/44 + 18/79
For the right side do 80 130 170 240 249 251 255 264. For the left side 70 110 140 150 155 156 161 169 and 2 from 264. So the final answer is 17164.

Please practice as this is time tested and works well all the time. The beauty of Vedic Mathematics just cannot be ignored. We do earn a lot of degrees but it is more important to dominate the fundamentals.

For adding practice the 10's circle is given.
Just draw a circle. At the opposite ends put the digits 2,8 3,7 4,6 5,5. Not to add but read in the mind as the digits that add up to 10. This fastens the additions in the real sums.

Well, that's it for now. Please bear with me. We will soon be doing tables up to 20 in four different methods. That is just the tip of the iceberg. We simply put the calculations into the hands of the God. The impact is evident more of our Science subjects like Physics, Chemistry ...

Actually, the more fluent one is at Sanskrit; the better one is at Vedic Mathematics. There are 16 different Sutras (formulae) and sub-sub sutras (sub-formulae) which need must mentioning.

Moreover, things get easy when you move towards the zero. As we add the 10's first in the above example. And that is the beauty of Vedic Mathematics. I don't stress to repeatedly repeat the phrase because very confident that it will always work wonders. Hope, this has been worth your time.

In the fairy-tale life of Sir Diego Armando Maradona Franco, visited India twice. First time was in 2008 When he landed in Kolkata. He inaugurated a private football academy. He was a staunch supporter, admirer of Cuban President Fidel Castro, whom he considered a fatherly figure. Maradona saw Fidel Castro's photograph with Mr Jyoti Basu the chief minister of West Bengal. He eagerly responded to an invitation to a function with the honorable chief minister.

Maradona got a wonderful reception in Kolkata right from the touchdown at the airport. As thousands gathered to greet him with much pomp and glory, he nostalgically remembered Napoli, Italy, where he was received with capacity 75,000 crowd. He played a charitable friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium. He excitedly got into juggling the ball as the crowd reveled and cheered. “This is the second biggest reception of my life after Napoli,” he stated.

The historical goal that Maradona scored against England stays in the heart of every football lover. He again visited India in 2017; December to play in a charity 'Diego was Dada'. He did not play due to a hand injury, nevertheless he visited some school children. In his three day visit in the City of joy, he unveiled a 12-feet statue of himself. Maradona realized his dream of visiting the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata and prayed at Mother Teresa's abode.

However, well most memorable also is the goal Lionel Messi scored that repeated the feat of Maradona in 1986. Its almost a replay and that is why Maradona adores him. There are 250 million people playing soccer in about 200 countries. Its audience parallels the Olympics. This is the story of Maradona. A mega-star sprang out from the outskirts of Buenos Aires on 25 September 1960.

Pele, Maradona, Platini, Crioff, Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar … are some of the big names in this wonderful sport. Each having their own theme of play.

Maradona was discovered by Fransico Cornjeo at 8 years old itself. He played for Newland boys, Boca Juniors by the age of 16. Recorded as the youngest player ever. His exuberant skills drew many a praise. He jumped up the ranks and led Boca Juniors to their first ever title. He produced a clear nutmeg (push the ball between the opponents legs ) which won accolades. Then he captained Argentina juniors and won the Youth FiFa world cup by the age of 20 years.

His first appearance in the 1982 world cup was not very fruitful. In the 1986 world cup at 25 years, Maradona had the world at his feet. He was in the limelight, most sought after player by the crowds, the cameras.

Worth mentioning is the hand of God goal he scored against England. The referee could not spot it correctly and the goal just stood. But right after that, Maradona from the right half, received the ball in his own half, brought the ball close to him, as the opponents came he turned 360 degrees, evaded no.2, swerved, jumped over the no.3, dodged past no.4 & no.5 (five in all). The acceleration rendered many speechless. Finally, he slipped the ball into the post with a little left touch. The whole world witnessed what is widely acclaimed as the best goal in FIFA history. The jubilant crowds, the ecstasy, the celebrations were on at cloud 9.

The semi-finals against Brazil when he was heavily marked, yet just a few moments of lapse and he gave a through pass to Valdano who converted into a handsome goal. In the match against Belgium the pure class, clinical ball control and magic of Maradona is clearly seen. These matches are watched again and again to this day. The final against West Germany was another great bonanza. Maradona went running to take a pass from a corner kick, about 3 defenders followed him leaving some player free at the post. The pass following was converted easily. The match ended with scores at 3-2. The strategy, the tactics, the dupe, the con, the skill, the acrobatism of Maradona was, is an extravaganza.

But Maradona also fell into Cocaine addition amidst the outgoing lifestyle. He was tested positive and suffered a ban of 15 months. He spent this time in Spain and returned to Argentina. 1. Direct Flag Method:-

We have,

1. Divisor - like advisor the number dividing.

2. Dividend - the number being divided.

3. The Flag - the multiplier.

Now, we simply follow the MSD rule. Multiply, subtract and divide.

In this method we divide with only one digit and use the rest as flag. The Dividend is split for as many digits as the flag. Here if we have one digit in the flag we split the dividend from the right by one digit. The answer after the colon are decimals.

The system is beautiful and accurate. Here we can see, 8 is the divisor and 3 is the flag. The whole division is carried by 8 alone. 8 is bigger than 4, so we put 0 and carry forward to get 45. The quotient 0 is multiplied by flag zero to get 0 as the subtractor. Now, 45-0=45. We divide 45 by 8 to get 5 as quotient and carry forward 5 to get 59. The 5 quotient is multiplied by flag 3 to get -15. So, 59-15=44. Now divide this 44 by 8 to get 5 as quotient and carry forward the remaining 4. Now, quotient 5 is multiplied by 3 to get Sub-tractor -15. 40-15=25. This 25 is divided by 8 and so on...
