(T.E.D.) provides an opportunity for educators in the United States and the European Union to come together online for shared exploration and examination of a variety of educational topics as they relate to issues of identity and difference, with a particular emphasis on representations of "the other" in the classroom.
Who is involved with T.E.D.?
A total of seventy educators in the U.S. and the EU will be involved. Participants from the U.S. may be current teachers, pre-service teacher education students, school administrators, graduate students, and education faculty. Participants from the Europe should be residing/teaching in an EU member country (including candidate countries).
Where Does T.E.D. Meet?
Participants can participate anywhere they are located, provided they have access to the internet. Class sessions are synchronous; readings and reflections take place asynchronously.
Synchronous sessions take place weekly for ninety minutes using Elluminate. This online application enables registered participants to simultaneously communicate with classmates by using microphones connected to their computers, typing into a shared chat-rooms, contributing notes on a "chalkboard" tool, and using webcams and other capabilities to upload videos and picture images. Technical support for the program is provided by the University of Illinois, College of Education.
Prior to each weekly session, participants will have assigned readings representing US and EU perspectives on the topic. Readings will be available through a shared course website called Moodle.
Using Moodle, participants can share articles with other participants, post comments on topic-specific forums, and send messages to other participants.
Participants will be meet on-line once a week for 90 minutes: Sundays (February 12 - May 6) 12PM US Central Time / 5PM Greenwich Mean Time. Upon successful completion of T.E.D., all participants will receive a Certification of Completion from the European Union Center / Center for Global Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A Video Party is a shared video experience on Socl. Socl lets you search and quickly assemble a list of videos to view and chat about together, in real time if you like. You can create your own party, or join an existing party created by another person.
How does Socl work?

The Socl post creation experience is powered by Bing; we use the public Bing APIs to display search results. When people want to express themselves on Socl, they look for great content on the web and share the results in the form of a post collage. These results can be web pages, images, or videos found through Bing or found while simply browsing the web and shared with the Socl community (the Socl bookmarklet makes this easy to do). Posts can be tagged to Socl Interests to aid discovery and discussion.

The Internet Curator’s role is to seek on the web information related to a specic domain,fillter them, select them, organise, share, present them in a unique mode. For this reason we launch ICT4eTwinners project : Innovation, Curation, Teach for eTwinners where we collaborate and integrate new tools and apps useful for teachers and students in XXI Century Education . This is a eTwinning project launched after I was leader in community of practices 2 organized in SMILE Project . In our COP2 - Using social media in schools - whole school approach we have a team from 8 members who make a case study related to our theme
European Schoolnet (EUN) has been awarded an inaugural Digital Citizenship Research Grant by Facebook and for this reason they launched Social Media in Learning Education Project . http://leedu.eun.org/web/smile/home
This SMILE year-long project consists of three phases:
- An online learning laboratory for 100 teachers from the 30 member states of EUN's partnerships to investigate and embrace the educational opportunities social media offers.
- Research with the 100 learning laboratory participants to highlight trends and best practices for how social media is being used and can be used in classrooms.
- Broad dissemination of results of the research through EUN’s interactive portals for teachers as well as through European and international meetings and conferences.

Google Course Builder design process has four simple steps, which get iterated multiple times:
Plan before you start.
Before you get into the details of creating your course, take 30 minutes to think about the following areas and write down your answers. Eventually, you'll spend much more than 30 minutes on planning; this initial time is to get you oriented in the right direction on all aspects of your course.
Develop the content without technology.

Implement the course with technology.
The first iteration of the theoretical development is now done. Now, it’s time to "implement" it. During this phase, you write the text content of your lessons, create videos, and modify the Course Builder software to implement assessments and activities. You also set up your groups, organize online office hours, arrange for teaching assistants, and do all that other fun stuff.
Pilot with your target audience.
We strongly encourage you to pilot your course by having people go through the entire course before you release it to actual students. You may find, as we have, that a large percentage of your work comes after the first pilot, when you see how people actually interact with your material. Be sure to leave enough time to make the necessary changes you discover while piloting.

Develop a "Personal Action Plan" outlining a project they will complete
Lead at least three local professional development activities over the course of 12 months.

Actively participate in the GCT online community.
Share the impact of their work with other Google Certified Teachers through mid-year and end-of-year reflection.In addition to two free days of training, GCTs get:

Opportunities to give feedback to Google on educational uses of tools.Invitations to join Google at special events.The right to post the GCT web badge on their website or blog.
Applicants
Approximately 50 innovative educators from around the world are selected to attend each GTA based on the merits of their online application. Applicants include classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, technology specialists, librarians, administrators, professional trainers, and other education professionals who actively serve the world’s primary and secondary teachers and students.Participants are selected based on their professional experience, their passion for teaching and learning, and their successful use of technology in school settings. GTA are particularly interested in educators who actively provide mentoring or training for other teachers.
Participants must provide their own travel, and if necessary, their own lodging. The GTA is designed to create a strong professional community of educators who support each other over the course of a year, so if you are not local, you must be willing to be resourceful with all technologies to facilitate communication and collaboration with your fellow Google Certified Teachers.

Application Requirements
All applications to the Google Teacher Academy must be submitted using online form. GTA only accept applications submitted before the deadline. The application includes short answer questions and a video. The original one minute video must be on one of the following topics: "Motivation and Learning", "Classroom Innovation," or “Positive Change in My Community.” Be as creative as you like, but make sure you follow copyright laws. Once you create the video, you must post it on the Web to YouTube, then paste the specific URL for your video into the appropriate field on the application.They will not accept videos by email, and will not watch more than one minute of video. GTA realize that you may not have produced a video before and that you may not own video equipment, but we are confident you can find a way to meet this requirement. You do not need to be in the video, but please do not submit videos produced for another project or videos created by others. Do not include any copyrighted images, footage, or music.(For more information visit the copyright education site on YouTube.If you have applied to the GTA in the past you can reuse the same video if you wish.

Diaspora the newest social media startup open source social network attempts to combine all of our social networking information into one powerful, secure and private (public only if you want) application. Last year I was verry upset when Diaspora Co-Founder Ilya Zhitomirskiy Dies at 22 and in this way one of the Diaspora Brains died , but other founders of this startup continue the adventure .

Facebook Awards Digital Citizenship Research Grant to European Schoolnet to implement SMILE :) Project and you can read more here . This project has 3 parts :
1. An online learning laboratory for 100 teachers from the 30 member states of EUN partnership to investigate and embrace the educational opportunities social media offers;
2.Research with the 100 learning laboratory participants to highlight trends and best practices for how social media is being used and can be used in classrooms;
3.Broad dissemination of results of the research through EUN’s interactive portals for teachers as well as through European and international meetings and conferences.

Still the begining I want to tell you that I have the pleasure to be invited by Deena Kelly, GlogsterEDU director, and I received a phone from Justin Landis to take part like a GlogsterEDU Ambassador http://dumacornellucian.edu.glogster.com/ to Intel Teach Essentials organized in Prague between 22 - 25 may 2012 . I must told you that I tried in last 3 years many times to make a Intel Teach Course here in Romania , but I find only online on http://iteach.ro/ . I have the surprise to find that our trainer is Ollie Bray, that I meet on the elearning platform of Smile Project managed by European Schoolnet who is National Adviser for Emerging Technologies in Learning at LTScotland .

Also we have a brilliant Intel Education trainer from UK Ruth Merrett who was in our project team in the right ( Marta and Mihaela ) and help us in our unit project and I learn from her how to make a succesful project and a lot of things .

An organization established by MIT and Harvard that will develop an open-source technology platform to deliver online courses. EdX will support Harvard and MIT faculty in conducting research on teaching and learning on campus through tools that enrich classroom and laboratory experiences. At the same time, edX also will reach learners around the world through online course materials. The edX website will begin by hosting MITx and Harvardx content, with the goal of adding content from other universities interested in joining the platform. edX will also support the Harvard and MIT faculty in conducting research on teaching and learning.

Who will lead edX?

EdX is a priority for the leadership of both Harvard and MIT, and it will be governed by a board made up of key leaders from both institutions, appointed by each university’s president. MIT Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Anant Agarwal will be the initial President of edX and will report to the board.

What technology will edX use?

An open-source online learning platform that will feature teaching designed specifically for the web. Features will include: self-paced learning, online discussion groups, wiki-based collaborative learning, assessment of learning as a student progresses through a course, and online laboratories. Create playlists of presentations

With SlideDog you can use playlists to play multiple slide shows one after the other. You can also add other files and media such as videos, web pages, Prezi presentations, spreadsheets and documents. A playlist can be saved to disk for easy playback at a later time. Each playlist may have a background image associated with it. This image will be shown in between presentations and may act as a pause-image for your meeting or other event.

SlideDog supports a lot of different file formats. You can add PowerPoints, PDFs, Videos, Prezi presentations, web pages, excel spreadsheets, word documents, flash animations and all kinds of images. These files will be played using the best tools available. Some of the files can be played directly, while others will be launched by an external application E.g. Office PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer is used for showing PowerPoint files, but it will seem like they are directly played by SlideDog.

Switch between files seamlessly
SlideDog will launch the files in the playlist in fullscreen without displaying the computer desktop or application specific loading screens to the viewers. This enables a smooth transition between speakers (if used at an event with several speakers) and files (if used by one presenter alone).

Use a presenter screen with notes, timers and playlists
SlideDog uses a PowerPoint like multi-monitor output to provide meta information to the speaker during the presentation. It is able to show a normal presentation window on one screen, while showing a more sophisticated overview on the other one providing information like thumbnails of the next slides, slide notes and timers. The two timers show time spent on the current file and total time since the playlist started.

Reel helps you quickly create and share presentations. Each preso is stored online behind a unique URL, making it easy to poll your audience for their impressions.

As I mentioned in my previous post I hope that my curation blog will provide gateway to knowledge for many teachers and students from Romania and worldwide because I will try to describe weekly gr8 new and useful resources(applications and tools web 2.0 and social media) that make educational process to be impressive and enjoyable for students. I was pleased to see that my project, eSafety4eTwinners - Web 2.0 and social media use eTwinners to prevent school dropout "was accepted in the exhibition Innovators Forum in Education organized by Microsoft, Romanian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and EOS Foundation .So I was participated in Brasov, Aro Palace Hotel on 1 - 2 March 2012 Innovators Forum in Education which was held in conjunction with the Meeting of National Education MECTS and so our projects have been visited in the Exhibition, and appreciated by general inspectors and other inspectors who were present at the event. In this special event experts have shared us the latest news in the Microsoft field. Thus I learned that Microsoft has released a new platform for Microsoft Partners in Learning http://www.pil-network.com/ Network with many facilities for teachers worldwide, and Microsoft experts showed us the new Microsoft tablets of 12 and 10 inches and showed us some features offered by Windows 8 touch version that was released a few days ago. We also had a video conference at the event with Adina Popa from a Patfinder American school who organized # globaled11 . Also during this session and headteachers of Mentor and Patfinder schools from Romania have explained us the benefits obtained as innovative schools.

The two projects who will represent Romania in Lisbon on 25 March at the European Forum are: ,, Natural Resources "- Secondary School Nr. Galati 29 selected by the jury on the 1st place and ,, The story of a sheet of paper" - School grades I-VIII Panticeu, Cluj selected by public vote. I am also proud that the project in our county,, traditional houses Severin "coordinated by Mr. Tudor Deaconu and Remus got a deserved 3 place .

In nowadays society where science and information known a spectacular development and use of new web 2.0 and social media applications is no longer regarded as an avant-garde movement our students should be able to handle in the creative use of computer and online free tools represents a necessity in XXI Century Education . Today more than ever is observed a conversion worldwide of educational content in a digital form and this products are available to anyone, anywhere and anytime through eLearning technology. Interactive presentations like glogster edu and digital school lessons make a centered student who live in a learning envirolment and virtual education has become a phenomenon in education in last years. Training and professional development must be guided and monitored also for disadvantaged childrens because for this students classic access to information is not avaible . In the era of Internet and development of new technologies although my students and other students who have problems are children with special educational needs, at risk of school droppout XXI Century Skills can help them integrate into society .. Web 2.0andsocial mediacan bring a new dimension and can reform education around the word because electronic communication helps teachers and students to learn from each other. These technologies can stimulate discussion, open gateway to knowledge, promoting creativity and innovation for effective lifelong learning . Teacher and also students should have an entitlement to safe internet access at all times.
Pulling Piaget and Papert , the use of participatory media tools in education is typically geared towards, creating a more student centered, adaptive environnement where learners can contribute to the course material, formulate and express their own insights and opinion, construct their own understanding of material by connecting concepts, to personal experience or current events, and learn from one another in collaborative environments .Web 2.0 , social media and other digital and information technologies are powerful and interesting tools, which open up new opportunities for everyone and for this reason teachers and students must know how to use it nowadays in a safe mode

In the same time students are happy to came at schools where they learn about new tools and apps web 2.0 and social media and also they learn how to integrate in a safe mode new digital technologies in their classroom ,and this may prevent early school dropout . Although there are students with special needs , if they develop digital skills easier to integrate into the labor market today as most employers require computer literacy skills when hiring.
AIMS
Through this project we want to develop XXI century skills for students using in a eSafe mode new tehnologies in education 2.0 . If we use with our students new tools and applications web 2.0 and social media we open for them gateway through knowledge .
