It seems 88 Keys’ Charles Njapa wasn’t lying about being a LOhead even in high school.

This new video for “The Friend Zone” from last year’s excellent record, The Death of Adam, is a bit unrealistic, in that no one gets phone calls anymore about someone from high school getting married; we see it our Facebook feed. I can understand though, as it seems Charles was busy watching his own video for “Stay Up (Viagra).” Regardless, he does what any of us would do in this situation; look at old pictures and make ourselves miserable. I guess that makes him pretty relatable, but he should really get on Facebook.

Here’s the new “Poke Her Face” “Make Her Say” video, which I guess confirms the track for Cudi’s debut, Man on the Moon: The Guardians The End of Day, due September 15 (Grammy deadlines, eh?). Think Lady Gaga should have made an appearance (as well as the cursing), but still love this. Pretty colors, Cudi, Kanye, Common. Win.

As promised, here’s the full squirrel bombing video for Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing,” one of the best tracks on Viva La Vida, and one of my favorites from last year. It’s also another top notch clip for Coldplay’s often impressive video-ography. The single will be officially released on September 14 in the UK.

Thom Yorke debuted a new song at Latitude Festival this weekend in Suffolk. telling the crowd to “go for a piss” before going into the never before heard acoustic gem, “The Present Tense.” He also threw in some stripped down Radiohead songs (his band. It’s this whole big thing), including In Rainbows’ ‘Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” and “Videotape.”  Still looking for video of the “elegiac” grand piano version of “Everything In Its Right Place.”

Look, I haven’t listened to this yet. I’m sure it’s great. Hannibal King’s first mixtape, Eating Cornbread On The Millenium Falcon (presented by illRoots), features a handful of awesome underground NYC hip hop acts (Brown Bag AllStars ftw). More importantly, it’s the best album title and cover of all freaking time.

Philly singer-songwriter Kurt Vile is set to release his Matador debut, Childish Prodigy, this coming October. His hypnotizing first single, “Overnite Religion” has slipped me into a reverbed, home-made folkpop coma more than once in the past 2 days. With somewhat of an acoustic classic rock sound (parts of this track sound like something right off of Springsteen’s Nebraska), Matador calls him, “one of the more important figures in American music circa 2009.”

The Ghost of Tom Joad called, he said he loves “Overnight Religion.”

Speaking of Passion Pit…

The PS 22 chorus, who you may remember from their Perez Hilton requests (including the Lady Gaga cover that trumped the original), also blessed Passion Pit’s Manners with appearances on a handful of tracks. I haven’t listened to much else in the past week or so, so I thought it only fitting to post up the chorus’ rendition of “Seaweed Song” (which nearly brought PP’s Mike Angelakos and Ian Hultquist to tears), the moving closing track on the Cambridge band’s debut LP.

Starting to get the intended point here that Mark Mulcahy had a lot of great music. Here’s the second track to surface from the upcoming Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, which features covers of Miracle Legion and Polaris songs by artists like Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Dinosaur Jr., and more. The National makes Polaris’ “Ashamed of the Story I Told” one of their own. The song is originally on the band’s only release, Music from The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

The National is effortlessly brilliant. That point I got a long time ago.
