CareerNow! Blog: August 22 is National Punctuation Day

Hey, are you ready to celebrate National Punctuation Day? You may be asking who needs to rejoice over this special day. Well, besides everybody, the people with most cause to celebrate are clearly the students of the more literary fields such as English, Modern Languages and Literatures, and Children’s Literature. Or perhaps those with plans for entering the writing or publishing industry also want to take notice. However you qualify, the Career Resource Library (P304E) has the perfect way to honor this day set aside for periods, semicolons, hyphens, and question marks.

Seeking Professional Opportunities Outside Your Comfort Zone

Diversity in the Workplace: Seeking Professional Opportunities Outside Your Comfort Zone - CareerNow! Weekly Blog

“Make the best of an unfavorable situation” is the advice Syliva Jimison gives for employees that are part of minority groups, in her recent article published in Diverse Issues in Higher Education. The article presents the testimonial of a black employee dealing with the (not so) subtle barriers in a homogeneous workplace. The author warns of the emotional toll that making the best of a difficult situation can be, and suggests that a strong “support system” is required in order to survive in environment where one is not quite comfortable.

Note: You will need to use your Simmons login to access this article off-campus.
