These days, there's no getting around the fact that college is expensive. According to the College Board's most recent Trends in College Pricing report, the average yearly cost of just tuition and fees at a four-year college or university can range from $13,500 (for in-state students at public schools) to $32,300 (for students at private institutions). Add on books, room, board and other expenses and you could be in the $50,000-per-year range.
But before you let cost discourage you from applying..
This is a great article to finance your education.
News about college tuition is rarely good. As schools continue to raise prices, students are taking on an increasing amount of debt.
According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency created to help consumers understand financial products and services, student loan debt currently tops $1 trillion.

Education is very expensive. There are cheap college with good education
also. So, where should you go to get quality but affordable education? I
would recommend to search extensively over
the internet before you make your mind . US news website is a place for
great resource. But no matter where do you go money is a great factor
while going to college in US. Although I personally believe education is
everybody's birth right. While it should not be free, but very
affordable. Unfortunately that's not the case here. No wonder now lots
of students from USA goes overseas like Europe and Latin America to get
their education. From my personal life experience, where you get your
degree from plays a very small role to have a successful career. Keep in
mind in this country lots of people become very successful and have a
six figure income career even without a degree. Having a degree keeping
that in your consideration, put you ahead in the competition.

You do have to sometimes take
loans and yes its very easy to have one while in school. Banks are kind
of standing in line to hand over you the money hoping that they can eat
butter on your head once you get out with degree completed. Sometimes
student even don't care what they are getting onto is actually a trap
from the greedy bankers. Student loans should be regulated and carefully
controlled so that they cant fool the students with a heavy burden. You
will be surprised how many students get out with a heavy loan while the
economy and job market is tanking. With a huge competition typical job
should not be the only option now. You must have a side plan. I would
say take student loan just to cover tuition and books, dont borrow it to
cover your food and housing expenses. Try to do something during
weekend to cover your extra expenses. There are so many ways to make money now even on line.
Try to do freelancing. Even help your parents with mowing lawn to earn
few bucks extra. Work study is a great option for students. Its a
federal project to earn money while working and gaining experience in
school. Try to take only subsidized loans as they are less expensive and
initial interest is paid by the government. Try to cut living expenses
as much as possible. get rid of those habit that cost you money. Do
some physical work that will bring you some money instead of going to
gym and waste your time. Avoid credit cards or get them and save them
for your senior year. Trust me you will need them during final semesters
at school.

Alternative to student loans.

Due to higher cost of college education, lots of people
every year don’t even think about going to college after finishing their high
school. Some of them do go to community college and some goes to technical
school to get career training. Although I don’t discourage you to go to
community college or technical school, my focus will be to educate you how to
finance your higher education in college or university. Technical school or
community colleges are great way to start after high school. In an university
tuition are very high, even if you go to any school in small town. I would say
average tuition is more than 3.5k per semester. You should apply on the fafsa
website as soon as you determine to go to university. Apply for everything
including grant, scholarship, work study and subsidized loan. As soon as you
get your SAR- student aid report. Review all the information. By this time you
probably have made up your mind to go to any specific school of your choice. Calculate
how much money you will need for tuition, books. Put $200-$300 aside in your
calculation in case you need to buy something during semester for your class
project. Think if the money from grant and scholarship will cover everything
including tuition, books. What about living? Look at your work study fund and
see if its enough to cover living and food. Work study is much better than
working off campus. From my personal experience it’s a great way to gain
experience, make living. In work study you always work on campus and those
people you will work with always understand a student compare to any hotel or
fast food chain store. Your living cost and food should not be more than 1k
every month. Try to get a student roommate. Don’t stay with anybody who is not
student unless he is your close relative and you get a better deal. Try to get
some online job or mentoring kids job. There are 2 benefits. You work some
quality job and chances are you will make more money in less time. Doing online
blog, taking surveys – are great ways to make money. If you are good at
something, try to get yourself on fiverr.com. sell
something on ebay. I always discourage students to take any kind of student
loan. To me they are like trap. Once you are in, you are screwed for long time.
Student life specially in undergraduate is very challenging in USA. So, prepare
yourself for 4 years of rough time. Take a break during summer. Work double
shift and save some money for Fall semester. Don’t take credit card, unless you
really need it. Try different scholarship website on the internet. From my
personal experience, I never able to get any scholarship from internet. May be I
wasn’t that great. So, I wont suggest to waste too much time. But there are some
great scholarship on your school financial aid website, try them. You have
better chance. Try to get involved with some sort of internship program. Sometimes
you can work 10-20 hours at your own schedule. By all means try to avoid
student loans.

Guys, I am another guy from the block. We all have the same story. Because our journey started with the same dream. A dream to finish higher education and get a career in life. But, the path was not easy for all of us. Lots of people went through the same rough mountain like path like me. To achieve our goal we started taking student loans. It was an easy thing to do and start school. Because the people around me told the same thing. Just finish school and pay back the loan. Such a great idea. But, I never gave a second thought about the economic catastrophe that happened to US in last few years. It changed all my plans. I just started this blog to let the people know what happened in my life and what did I do to overcome this. Also I want to hear all of your story about student loan. May be we all can help each other by sharing our real life experience.
