If you have just bought your computer or laptop in the recent years, chances are the PC or laptop that you have bought were equipped with multi-core processors like Intel Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad or the latest Core i7.

For Windows 7 users, you can actually make use of these excess cores to speed up your computer’s boot up process. What’s best is that you won’t even need to install any software to do so. Here’s how to it:

Click on your start button, in the search box, type msconfig and hit enter.

A System Configuration screen will appear.

Go to the Boot tab and click on Advance options…

Tick on the check box for Number of processors and select the number of processors you want to use for your boot up.

Click on OK.

Then hit on Apply button and the computer will prompt you to restart the computer so that the setting and take effect.

Once you have enabled the setting, your computer will restart using the number of processors you selected. The more processors used, the faster the boot up process.

Go and test it for yourself.

What would you do is you need to grab the screenshot of a webpage? One of the easiest ways to do so is to crop it using an image enhancing tools. However, the software only allows you to crop the portion of the webpage that is visible on your monitor screen. To grab an entire webpage, you will need to crop all the portions manually and joint them together later on. This process is frustrating especially if you need to grab many webpages.

Therefore, that is where Screengrab comes in handy. Screengrab is a Firefox add-on which makes the process of grabbing a webpage much easier by just a few clicks of a button. With Screengrab, you can choose to save your webpage from a small selection, the visible portion to an entire webpage. By entire webpage it means the entire scrollable webpage.

You can download and install Screengrab by clicking here. To complete the installation, you will need to restart your Firefox browser. After the browser has restarted, you will be able to see a Screengrab icon appearing on the lower right corner of your browser.

To save a webpage, all you need to do is to click on the icon, mouse-over on the save… tab and then select the size of the webpage you want to save.

So, the next time you need to save a webpage, don’t forget to use Screengrab. It will certainly save you a lot of the trouble and frustrations.

A drop cap is basically a larger initial letter of the first word in a paragraph which drops into the line or lines of other test below it. A drop cap is commonly seen in novels to make the text looks more interesting and professional. It is also a nice and easy way to highlight the beginning of a new topic or a new chapter in your documents.

To add a drop cap using Microsoft Word 2010 is extremely easy.

Position your cursor anywhere in the paragraph you would like to add the drop cap on.

On your Insert tab, in the Text group, click on the Drop Cap.

Then select the styling you want for your drop cap.

By default, the letter will drop down by three lines. However, you can customize the font and the lines to drop for the letter in the Drop Cap Options Screen.

Now your document will look better with the drop cap effect.

Normally the waiting time varies between 30 seconds to 60 seconds depending on the host website. However, most of the time it might take longer than that if you have downloaded a file before that as there is a restriction as to how many files that can be downloaded within a specific period like say in an hour.

SkipScreen is a useful add-on to your Firefox browser. Although it won’t eliminate the waiting time for you, it save you a lot a trouble by automatically download the file for you after the waiting time has expires. Therefore, you need not have to constantly keep a watch on the time left for you to wait.

SkipScreen is free for download and it works on the following sites:

Megaupload

Mediafire

zShare

Believe or not, a sudden influx of traffic can crash an entire website. If you are a webmaster, you certainly not going to like this type of situation. It doesn’t happens often. But it’s best to check/test how much traffic your website can handle, to avoid it (Who knows?).

You can use Load Impact for testing the traffic that a particular web site can handle.

It is a new online service that allows you to see how much traffic your website can handle.

1. Once your entered Load Impact web site, enter your web site address in the box besides [Load test your website] and click Start Test.

2. Next, click Start Free Test under the Run Free Load Test option on the left. You can use paid service with more features if you like.

3. The test will takes some times to run from start to finish. While the test runs, a status bar at the top of the screen displays the progress. The current speed and total kB transferred are monitored.

4. Results are displayed on a graph below the progress bar. The graph shows the response time users would receive based on the number of other users on the site.

Since the test only monitors the impact of 50 simultaneous users, it is only a base prediction, subject to mathematical variance. Other test are available if you choose to register, including a bandwidth test.

Let’s say you are someone who like simplicity. Dislike shortcut icons spreading all over your desktop. Because it will make your desktop looks very messy. So, you hide all the desktop shortcut icons (by un-tick the [Show desktop icons]). Now the desktop looks cleaner than before. Then, another problem pops out – how am I going to empty the recycle bin? The recommended way is to pin the recycle bin icon to taskbar. For that, I’m going to teach you on how to pin recycle bin to your taskbar to help you on this.

Here’s how :

1. Just create a new shortcut to any place/path

2. Type the %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder into the Type the location of the item edit box and then click Next.

3. Right click the created shortcut and select Properties.

4. Click the Change icon. Change the icon path to %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll

5. Select any icon you desired and press OK.

6. Drag the icon to the taskbar to pin it to the taskbar.

7. Once the shortcut is pinned, you can delete the original on the desktop.

8. It’s done.

I guess some of you have face this problem. Every time you log in your Windows Live Messenger, there will be invitation notifications (only if you have one). OK, it’s nice to have notification regarding invitation. But, problem is even if you accept or ignore the invitation, the notification stays there. It’s really annoying to most of the users (including me).

There are a few solutions to this problem.

1st solution :

- Just click [x] every time you see the invitation notification. (Doesn’t solve the problem)

2nd solution :

- Click on the invitation notification area – [!You have _ invitations]

- You will be redirect to the invitations page (similar to below pictures)

- Click [Accept] or [No, thanks]

- Remember to click [sign out]

3rd solution :

- Click on the invitation notification area – [!You have _ invitations]

- You will be redirect to the invitations page

- Click [Accept] or [No, thanks]

- Close your Windows Live Messenger

- Go to Computer/Local Disk (C:)/Users/YourUsername/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Live Contacts

- Delete everything inside that folder

- Open your Windows Live Messenger and sign in

- No more annoying invitation notification

I don’t know if Windows Live have solve this annoying bug or not. However, just choose any solutions that is suitable to you.
