Debian Wireless setup

Well the other day I have a wireless laptop,it was running windows XP Pro. This is a Dell inspiron 600m which I procured brand new.

I installed Debian which was easy I downloaded an installer ISO and burned it to a CD. it installed like a breeze, only problem I had was the wireless was not working.

I then found out what wireless card I had in it by checking the dell service code to see what was installed

I had the Intel Pro Wireless 2200 so with that in hand I searched google and found what I had to do, I then searched and found I had to make sure the wireless tools were installed to do this and it showed up then I typed in the following command in the terminal.

copy and pasted from another website

sudo apt-get install wireless-tools

the command said wireless tools all ready installed
I then went to the the software center under system / administration
found the ipw2x00 drivers and installed, when finished wireless was now working

As I sit here working my real life job, I am debating on what to post about

I have three windows 7 computers sitting around me, one xp computer, two Linux computers, one with Debian, and one with Fedora. The Debian version I put on a laptop the only issue I have is it will not find the wireless card this went on a Dell 600m laptop. The Fedora version went on a desktop again a Dell, and works just fine found the network card in all.

I do like the Linux as it does give a new life to older computers that run 2 slow for normal windows.

Well I was browsing the net and found this site; it is an app site for apple products like the ipad, iphone, with all sorts of tools. One of the things they have is an app that tells you what apps your friends are using for their iPhone and iPad. This I don’t know if it is good or not you would have to make you own decision with privacy and all. I wonder if I would want someone to tell my friends what apps I am using I do think that this is for me to do and not someone else.

My husband and my taste for cable television could not be more different. I do not know how he watches the shows he watches, or why he even watches them. For example, if that show Cops is on, he will always watch it. I can’t stand that show! It is so trashy, and just overall negative. Why would I want that kind of energy in my home? I don’t like hearing the dialogue of the show at all. I literally have to leave the room when it is on and he doesn’t understand why I hate it so. First of all, I don’t even believe it is legitimate. It is so extreme and far out there, that it seems fake and at the least, egged on. My other thought is, if it is legitimate, why would someone give the tv show permission to air it? I mean, why would you want the whole world to see you getting arrested and in trouble? I really just don’t get it at all. I wish he wouldn’t watch it.

Working from Home

In order to save money, and increase productivity, we are offering our employees a work-from-home two days a week plan. We are looking in to getting T1 Bronx so that home offices will be a mirror of our work offices. I know this option will not be for everyone, especially those with young children at home, or those that feel that would be more productive if they went in to an office. For others, though, they spend almost two hours a day commuting, and this time in the car is wasted. I am a firm believer in family values, and family time together, and if my employees aren’t working, I want them to be able to be with their families, not driving in the car. Research shows that when employees have more time with their families, they are happier and more productive when they are working. Additionally, working from home two days a week would cut back on the car pollution, which is important to me as we hear more and more about Global Warming.

DSL Tip

I am working real life for a DSL service provider, and one thing I found out is: when your dsl service stops working a quick fix would be to reboot the DSL modem. this works in 90 percent of all cases. So before you call your ISP about it not working please try to reboot your modem at least 1 time. We might still ask you to reboot it again, but that is part of our job.

Living room/den

When we had our Direct.tv installed, we decided to have a television in our den and in our living room. That is the room that all four of our kids have brought their dates to watch television when they didn’t have money to go anywhere else. I can’t tell you how many dates have been held in our living room. My husband and I could then always have the den free to watch whatever we wanted to watch and not have to watch the awkwardness of our children trying to have a date. Now that our children are out of our house, my husband is the one to go into the living room to watch his five hundred football games in a weekend or whatever the current sport of the season is. And I can watch whatever girl movie I want without any interruption. Now occasionally our son will come home and want to watch a game or two with his dad in the den. It is closer to the kitchen. So I will give it up to them and end up in the kitchen trying to fill up my son with food while he is home.

Well what are you looking for in the line of digital equipment test equipment. I found a great site with Laser Distance Measuring Equipment, and other digital measuring equipment. Laser Distance meters are better to use than the old fashioned tape measure, the laser is straight and true, while a tape measure is flexible and as a result can give you an inaccurate reading. All I know is you have to look through this site for all your needs from A to Z. I saw auto parts on this site, as well as camera and pet food. So you can find just about anything here.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Fall. This is a problem for me. Before I was married, I loved the Fall. It was hands down my favorite season. What is there not to love? Pumpkins. Changing Leaves. Apple cider. Hot chocolate. I like all of these things—no, that’s not even true. I LOVE all of these things. And then, (cue the suspenseful music) I moved in with my husband. And that’s where the ‘hate’ part of the relationship with Fall started. The football. It never stops. From September through January, it is all football in my house, all the time. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am a big fan of college football. I will watch my beloved Georgia Bulldogs every time they are on. This is good, because my husband loves college football too. Great! We can watch it together. However, the NFL is what gets me. My husband is a Steelers fan, but he will watch any game that is on. And thanks to Michigan HD TV, there is a game on nonstop. Of course these games must be watched on the best TV in the house, too, which happens to be in our family room. I am relegated to the bedroom to watch TV, and once I’m lying in bed I might as well just go to sleep. I miss half the shows I want to watch! Fortunately for our marriage, we have a DVR. I record all the shows I want to watch, and then I ban him from the family room anytime I can.

Whatever you’re looking for you can price compare different sites here just looking around saw items from tiger direct, to amazon, so this might be a great place to find some good deals!

I was looking around and found this great site with all sorts of camera’s from the Polaroid instant cameras, to SLR film camera’s most of these cameras are antiques, and quite pricy here but it is the only site I have found with the old cameras. The Camera’s here are of all makes, and models, or most makes and models. Note these cameras are all film cameras I didn’t see a digital camera listed here

Laptop Battery Life

I have noticed some dont know how to extend the life of the battery on your laptop, and this will work for almost any electronic device that will or can operate on batteries. Batteries are the life blood of a lot of the electronics today

Today I will just five you 1 way to extend the life of a Battery.

One of the best ways is to fully charge the item with the battery, once the battery is fully charged, unplug the item from the charger, turn off all battery saving items you may have running and use it. Let the item discharge completely, till it shuts off or go's into stand by mode. It is then safe to plug it in and charge the battery up. I would do this at least 2 times and it will help you regain some life in the battery
