A red carpet is traditionally used to mark the route taken by heads of state on ceremonial and formal occasions, and has in recent decades been extended to use by VIPs and celebrities at formal events.

The earliest known reference to walking a red carpet in literature is in the play Agamemnon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. When the title character returns from Troy, he is greeted by his vengeful wife Clytemnestra who offers him a red path to walk upon:

Now my beloved, step down from your chariot, and let not your foot, my lord, touch the Earth. Servants, let there be spread before the house he never expected to see, where Justice leads him in, a crimson path.

Agamemnon, knowing that only gods walk on such luxury, responds with trepidation:

I am a mortal, a man; I cannot trample upon these tinted splendors without fear thrown in my path.

Oriental carpets in Renaissance painting often show rugs and carpets, patterned but with red often the main background colour, laid on the steps to a throne, or on a dais where rulers or sacred figures are placed.
A red carpet was rolled out to a river to welcome the arrival of United States president James Monroe in 1821.[1] In 1902, The New York Central Railroad used plush crimson carpets to direct people as they boarded their 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is believed to be the origin of the phrase "red-carpet treatment". Film premieres are often laid down with red carpets.
Unrolled carpets can be potentially hazardous. In 2010, when Pope Benedict XVI arrived at Edinburgh airport in strong winds for a state visit to Britain, the red carpet was removed on health and safety grounds.[

A red carpet is also used in gala celebrity events such as the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Met Gala and BAFTAs. While the awards take place inside, much of the publicity and excitement takes place outside with journalists discussing the red carpet fashions, what designers are being worn by which stars and photographers taking pictures. This is now a spectacular international product placement arena of great importance to the fashion industry. Red carpets are often coupled with publicity backdrops which contain brand logos or emblems for photography purposes.[3]
Carpeting in other colors may replace red in some instances to honor a certain cause or for a sponsored event, the sponsor's logo colors, such as a "green carpet" to promote environmental awareness, or for the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, an orange carpet is used instead to go with the network's primary imaging color.[4]

More generally, "red carpet treatment" and "rolling out the red carpet" refer to any special efforts made in the interests of hospitality.
United Airlines operates a series of VIP lounges at major airports that were formerly known as "Red Carpet Clubs".

you're thinking about giving someone jewelry for Valentine's Day,
here's a list of things to know about jewelry, to go into your ten cent
crazy book.

Diamonds

Look at:
Cut, Clarity, Color and Carats

The better the cut the more it shines
Look for a diamond that's not cloudy
The less yellow the better the diamond, and or course carat is the weight

Pearls

Look at:

Luster, Nacre, cleanliness, size and shape
Luster means you don't want pearls to be cloudy, you want to see your reflection Nacre is the internal part
Cleanliness again means color and luster
Size,
bigger is better (and more expensive) but only if the shape is round
Potato shaped small pearls can be pretty and less expensive

Gold

Look at:

Karatage, gram weight, craftsmanship

Karatage means the purity of the gold - 24K is pure gold
Gram weight is how heavy it is, and Craftsmanship is how well it's made - is it a mold or hand crafted

A charm bracelet might be a great gift for her that can start with one charm and more charms can be added later.

A
watch might be a great gift for him, but when dealing with watches,
remember you're looking at two things, when it comes to price - The
outside of the watch and the inside of the watch.

The outside will make a price difference on whether it's stainless steel, or 18k gold and whether or not it has diamonds.

The
inside of the watch will make a price difference on whether the watch
is quartz and takes a battery (less expensive) or if the watch is
mechanical (more expensive) because it can have up to six hundred parts,
put together by hand.

Follow me for more crazy book ideas

Ok, it’s the beginning of a new year and some of
you might want to know how to diet and how to figure out your BMI (Body
Mass Index) As for diet, I’ve only ever been on one that I truly
liked, it was no carbs, but I could have all the cheese and bacon that I
wanted, and every day at lunch, I could have a taco salad consisting of
meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and all the sour cream that I wanted. As
for a snack I could eat cool whip. Surprise, Surprise, I never lost
any weight on this diet and was told that it was not at all healthy,
but I truly liked this diet. As for BMI, yes, that’s the thing they do
to kids in school now, so that they can tell even the skinniest kid that
he’s overweight and needs to exercise more, but for those of you that
want these things, here they are.

I recently read about a lady who lost over 100 pounds. She ate a bowl
of wheat or oat cereal with milk, twice a day. She could eat all the
fruit or veggies that she wanted. She ate chicken, turkey, steak and
fish at meal time, and she ate nuts for a snack and drank water if
thirsty. She took a multivitamin every day. She said this cured her high
cholesterol, high blood pressure, acid reflex and sleep apnea, and this
diet is said to be healthy.
As for figuring out your BMI
Measure your height in inches
Example: if you are 5ft 3in, that’s 63 inches tall
Multiply the inches by it self
Example: 63x63=3969
Now take your weight and divide by your answer
Example: If you weigh 120 pounds, divide 3969 into 120 or 120 divided by 3969 = 0.0302343
Now take this answer and multiply by 703
0.0302343x703=21.254712
Your BMI is 21
Your BMI should be 18.5 to 24.9, if higher then 24.9; “they” say you should see a doctor and lose weight.
My BMI does not fall into this range but I do not plan on seeing a
doctor and as you know already, my favorite diet, does not work.
Any expert weight training person, will tell you that figuring your BMI
without knowing how much muscle you have, doesn’t give you a true BMI
number, but if figuring out your muscle is anything like figuring out
your BMI, I don’t think I want to go that far. I think they have
machines that you stand on at the gym, to figure out your muscle size.
If I ever go to the gym, I’ll let you know.

someone having one, you probably have forgotten or never knew that
different years mean different kinds of gifts. Most of us know that 25
years means a silver anniversary, or that 50 years is gold, but here are
the ones you probably can't remember, and a few gift ideas to add to
your ten cent crazy book, so that you and probably no one else will
remember from now on.

Anniversary & Gift Ideas

1. Paper

Tickets for something, books, Newspaper or magazine subscription, Stationary, board games, puzzles, calendars, gift certificates

2. Cotton

Pillows, Cotton Candy Maker

3. Leather

Briefcase, belt wallet, handbag, desk set, Gloves, backpack, luggage or Organizer

4. Candy and Iron

Chocolates, Fireplace accessories, an Outdoor swing or Bench, clothes iron or Cast iron cookware

7.Wool or Copper

Socks, gloves, scarf or any movie with the word seven in the title, copper vase

8. Bronze or Brass

Bookends, candleholders

9. If you wish to start your own crazy book - read post 1-4 to find out how.

Ok, now I will give you something to add to your crazy book. All of you won't want it but some of you will.
My
friends often use me as a muse of sorts, not that I have a guiding
spirit or that I'm a wealth of information or inspiration, but more than
likely, just to see what I will say. I tend to be quite blunt and
honest most of the time and I think this amuses them, more than anything
else. Whatever the case, someone recently asked me how they could
change their aura (like I would know). Well I told them that I didn't
think they wanted to do that, because I think perhaps that your aura is
the core of who you are. (And I like this person, so why would I want
them to change) In any case, I told them that I thought I had something
wrote in my ten cent crazy book that was about "How a person could
change". Well, being that it's the beginning of a new year, several of
you may want to know how you can change, and this is what I came up
with. In my opinion, (remember, no guiding spirit, no wealth of
information or inspiration) there are only six ways a person can truly
change.

1 By changing the way you look – pay attention to your
style –cut your hair-change your makeup-wear jewelry –add accessories-
this can change the way people receive you

2 Change your routine –
drive a new way to work – go somewhere you usually don’t go – like the
library- a new grocery store-a new gas station- this way you see new
people –they see you and your attitude towards life will change
according to how you are treated – if you are treated badly or rudely,
or like you don’t matter at one place- go to another- bringing new
people into your life will change your perception of yourself and others
perceptions of you- making small changes in your routine –upgrading
anything you do, will make you feel better

3 Take 10 minutes a day to sit in peace.

4
Try to change any negative thoughts into positive ones – when you
listen to others and they don’t listen to you – you are being the one
with a higher power and this is said by the Chinese to bring you luck,
wealth and happiness.

5 Remember that how you choose to spend
your time is up to you – you can be a couch potato and watch television
all day, or you can read, sew, paint, clean a closet, cook, or start a
new project. You can watch television while doing something else or
"watch with a purpose of enjoyment", like learning about a country you
would like to see or travel to, or a cooking show, or decorating show –
even without doing these things, you will learn knowledge and have a
sense of accomplishment. Watching television with a purpose of enjoyment
can also mean renting a DVD watching for 15 minutes and then pausing to
cook something, clean something, start a project, while the DVD is
paused, slowly count to 100 and do something else – chances are 15 or 20
minutes later you’ll realize – Oh yeah – I’m watching a movie. Start
the movie and then pause again 15 minutes later- You will accomplish
more than ever before and feel good about not wasting time – I have had 4
rented movies last a whole weekend by pausing them every 15 min.

6
Think about the people in your life and how you can make them happy –
Is it by listening to them, helping them with a project –taking them
something you’ve read, that you think they would like, buying them a
soda, taking them a muffin – remember these things bring you luck,
wealth and happiness.

Most or all remember how great you are – if
someone doesn’t have time to listen to you, it is their GREAT loss –for
the knowledge you have to share could have changed their life – and how
sad for them that they missed out. That’s why they say to pray for your
enemies, because if they don’t realize how great YOU are, they have no
chance for true happiness.

Enjoy your ten cent crazy book - Follow me for new ideas and new things to add.
