We went to Namdaemun. Namdaemun is famous for it's cheap souvenirs. Most of the souvenirs sold here is almost 50% - 70% cheaper compared to what we have seen many other places from the first day. For ladies, here is the place where you can find huge collection of accesorries such as earrings and ribbons for very cheap price.

We next proceeded to Dongdaemon to buy some clothes. We managed to get some clothes for very good bargain.

After dinner we went out again for 1 more final round shopping. We just went their retail mart (Core Mart) to get some dried and wet food to be brought home.

From what we found, most of the souvenirs sold here are quite expensive, but as for handbags, they are very cheap (from as low as RM28). The material was quite good too.

Wake up and refresh. Why so early? Well Yeouse is very far from Seoul and takes almost 4 hours journey to reach there.

We leave for Yeouse. We reached there at about 10.30am. It was a rainy day.
Once reach we went for lunch straight so that we can utilise the next few hours exploring the world expo.

We entered the expo area and start exploring in small group. Well, what is this World Expo about? It is a yearly expo which is held in different countries every year. Previously China hosted this expo. In this expo, most of the countries of the world will open their booth in allocated place, and exhibit anything that could best represent their country. India for example displayed their traditional clothes and also architecture, US impressed us with their marvellous and powerful presentation and Malaysia with it's rainforest theme and also the traditional products of Sabah and Sarawak.

We leave back to Seoul. On the way back we stopped by at R&R for dinner. We had noodles for the dinner, and seriously the taste was not bad.

We took bus to Sinchon district for lunch. We reached a seafood restaurant, Kosami Restaurant. Lunch was rice with fish and squid dish. The fish and squid was really awesome, the best food I had while in South Korea.

Walk to Ehwa Campus Complex. It is a freaking awesome university, where a big portion of the university is concealed underground. It is very beautiful and the space inside is very big. The underground complex consists of lecture hall, administration hall, shops, and even a cinema.It really has high class of aesthethic value.

After introduction session we was specifically brought to visit the Electrical Engineering Department at KAIST. Here we was enlightened about the course structure as well as administration of Electrical Engineering Department by Prof Myung Jin Chung. UTM also was given opportunity to present, where UTM lecturer Dr Kamal presented about Fakulti Kejuruteraan ELektrik UTM.

After the exchange session, we was treated with Korean Traditional food, Bibimbap. We found out that Bibimbap is usually served to welcome guests.

We was then brought around the campus for a campus tour. The university is very huge and has many environmental value, parallel with the university's aim to be a green campus. We was impressed with KAIST's electric shuttle bus which uses magnetic strip which was buried under the road to generate green energy. It is widely used for in campus travelling. After visiting the campus, we stopped by at souvenir shop.

From KAIST, we then went to National Science Museum. The museum is very huge with wide aspect of technology and history for display. Among the key attraction at National Science Museum was the history of Magnetic Levitated Train and also dinosaur skeleton. However due to time constraint, we was not able to see much of the displays.

Our next stop is Itaewon, which is for dinner. The journey took almost 2 hours, where we reached Itaewon at 6.30pm. Itaewon is famous as hub for foreign foods. Itaewon also is where a big mosque is located for the Muslims.

We went to Maharaja Restaurant where we was finally treated with a food so much similar to Malaysian food. It was a buffet style restaurant and the food was awesome.

After dinner, we walked around the street while the Muslims went to mosque to pray. There are wide range of items and souvenirs sold, but due to the fact the place being a trourist center, everything is very expensive.

Walk along Chongae Stream - Chongae Stream is one of the the achievement of Seoul City because of the clean treated water which runs through the center of city. Apparently the view at night is much more beautiful because of the lightings and sceneries.

We walked to a folk museum about 15 minutes away from the City Hall, but too bad for us, the museum was closed on Monday. However we was lucky enough to have found a booth which allows us to try on Korean Emperor's traditional clothes. It was a memorable experience for us all.

Move to Gyeong Bok Gung Palace by public bus. All the public transportation in Korea uses tMoney card, which is similar to Touch'n'go card in Malaysia.
The Gyeong Bok Gung Palace was attached to folk museum, thus we had the opportunity to learn up close about Korean traditional lifestyle and also experience the difference with traditional life in Malaysia.

We walked to Insadong for lunch. Lunch for the day was Korean traditional food, Bibimbap. Bibimbap is rice with a number of vegetables, where we have to put all together in a larger bowl, mix and enjoy it. :)

Then we walked to nearby area, Gahoe-dong where we was able enjoy an aerial view of the town. On top of the hill there was many traditional houses, but in order to go inside we have to pay.

We took bus and leave back to our room. It was a tiring day because of the long distance we had to walk and also the uphill journey to Gahoe-dong.

Korea Trip Day 01

Day 1 (6th July 2012)

We gathered at UTM International Campus on 5th night and moved together in UTM bus to KLIA LCCT.

9am (Malaysian time)
Flight was at 9am. Boarded flight at 8.20am and had in flight breakfast because of the long journey. We took almost 6 hours to reach Incheon Airport, South Korea.

4.20pm (Korean time)
Reached Incheon airport. We was guided by our tour agents (Malaysian students who are studying in Korea) and went to Golden Pond Guesthouse by bus.

9pm
For the first night we decided to try out Korean famous food, kimchi. Some of us oredered Kimchi Fried rice, while some opted for Squid Fried Rice. The taste is quite sour. Some of us didn't really like the taste, while others managed to adapt well to the new taste.

After dinner we just took a walk around and survey the area near our guesthouse. Basically no much difference with Malaysia except for the left hand driving in Korea, which is opposite to Malaysia.

UTM South Korea Academic Exchange & Industrial Visit Day 01 - (6th July 2012)

From 6th to 17th July 2012, a group of 34 students with a lecturer has succesfully executed a Global Outreach Program to South Korea.

This delegation was executed as an effort to give early exposure related to foreign lifestyle and education system to the students of Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In addition, the delegation will also be able to provide new experiences not only in term of technical but also personality and spiritual aspects as well.

In accordance with UTM’s aim to produce graduates who are creative and innovative, this delegation was able to provide exposure to the advanced technology of foreign countries such as Korea, one of the Asia’s developing country, especially in Electrical and Electronics field.

What we learned from this trip :

It was a new experience in a totally new environment and culture.
Survival skill in a country where English is very seldom spoken and Korean language is main language used everywhere.
Unlike Malaysia, they have very less dustbins, however you still see their roads are way cleaner than Malaysia. This is because they are disciplined to bring home their own trash to be thrown.
Their self discipline is very admirable, like what the students from Hanyang Uni. said, 'in order to mingle with them, you need to work as hard as them'. And from what i see, they are very ambitious. They give high priority on the developement of the next generation technology.
On top of that you can see how much they obey the law especially at traffic lights, where people actually fo stop to allow pedestrians cross the road. Koreans were not pampered with flyovers here and there, but were disciplined to follow traffic rules.
How they commute is very important. Their transportation such as the subway is very efficient. Meaning we can learn from their technology.

Move to Nami Island by bus. Reached "Naminara Republic" entrance at 10.15am. Naminara is classified as one of micronations in the world. Check here for more info : micronations

Took ferry to reach to the Nami Island. Nami Island can be said as a man-made island. This is because previously Nami Island is part of mainland and only appears in form of island when it rains and floods. After the construcion of dam nearby, it remained as permanent island now.The Nami island was named after Korea's General Nami. Nami Island also famous as being the main location for South Korea's "Winter Sonata" drama shooting.

Lunch at Nami Island Winter Sonata Drama Cafe. What's for lunch? We had what we call "Nasi Goncang" in Malay, I don't know what they call it in Korea. It's basically rice with tuna in metal container, and we have to wear gloves and shake the container until rice and tune is fully mixed. After that we eat rice as usual.

We start moving back for Seoul. I managed to buy a piece of Naminara coin worth 1000won.

We reached at N Seoul Tower. It is very similar to our own KL tower, but not as tall, and it is located on top of hill. The famous Teddy Bear Museum is also located here. However due to time constraint, we couldn't visit the museum, so we just bought some souvenirs and go back.

We went out for shopping at Daison Mall, a small store near our guest house.
