When you’re diagnosed with a serious disease you start to take a good luck at your life. Those things you put on the back burner to do “some day” suddenly receive a new spot on your things to do list. People become more important than things; relationships become top priority. And, if you are a Christain (as I am) you examine your spiritual life, praying with sincerity for God to show you any areas of disobedience or laxity in your Christian walk.

At least, that’s what I did when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My response to the news was to go to God. He is my first line of defense … not a failsafe when all else fails. I was bold enough to ask God to heal me. I believe He does this for others … I have seen it many times in my life. So, why not heal me as well?

I believe that nothing that happens to a Christian is “by chance”. That’s why, when we succomb to an illness or disease we must prayerfully and seriously take a look at our own lives, examine ourselves and submit to God. Every morning when I arise I humbly thank God for my healing and submit to His will for today. Just for today. I can’t go further than that. He will give me strength for today and will guide me in my steps. I know Him. It is His pattern with me … leading me one day at a time, moment by moment. It would be nice to know the future as some seem to be able to do … but that has yet to happen to me.

Every evening when I go to bed I do the same thing. My heart is filled with thanksgiving and gratitude to God. My husband and I pray together, thanking God for the day and pray for those that God brings to our minds to pray for. We submit to God and go to sleep knowing that if we don’t wake up in the morning we will be in His presense.

Throughout the day I continually thank God for touching my life and body and for bringing me into oneness with His will. And (although some of you may not understand this) I curse the disease in Jesus’ Name, laying my hand upon my afflicted breast. I pronounce God’s healing. I rejoice in my heart for what He is doing in my life as a result of this disease. It has brought me closer to Him than I’ve ever been. I’m just sorry it took cancer to do that. But, if that’s what it took … then I rejoice in that, too. “As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after thee …” is my heart’s cry.

To say you believe God will heal you is a bold statement but believing God requires boldness. And it takes courage because people don’t understand you. They think you’re crazy. Are you up to that? One in my extended family wrote an email saying she had always thought of me as an intelligent person but my decision not to have chemotherapy was not very intelligent. She said a lot of other hurtful things … but I wasn’t offended. She was afraid for me and I know that. She simply doesn’t understand that God heals people today just like He did in the past.

And, she doesn’t understand that it takes the same faith for healing that it takes for salvation as both are included in the work of Calvary. “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” (James 5:14,15) “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness– by whose stripes you were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

Does that mean I am not going to the doctor? No. God works through doctors and I am aware of that. I have had extensive tests to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of my body. The reports were all negative and, for that, I am thankful. The cancer is confined to the breast and, that’s a good thing. To say I am believing God for my healing means that I seek Him regarding all aspectis of the disease. I pray about everything … “what do you want me to do?” I query Him. “Guide my steps,” I whisper. “Lead me in the path I must take,” I beseech Him. Then, as I go about the necessary doctor visits and have tests done, I expect His guidance and direction. It is a place of incredible peace that can’t be explained.

As you can see I consider prayer to be the most important part of my healing process. My pastor loaned me a book entitled, “Healing”, a collection of three classic books on healing. It is out of print, but if you can find it – buy it. It features the books on healing by Andrew Murray, A.B. Simpson and A.J. Gordon. What an eye opener!

When I started reading Andrew Murray’s words penned about 100 years ago, I said to myself, I already know this stuff. But, because my pastor had loaned it to me, I decided I would read it anyhow. I am so glad I did. The Holy Spirit used the words of that long ago theologian to minister to me in a way that I needed. It renewed my faith in God’s divine healing power. It helped me to focus on God, not on a cure and not on the cancer. I am able to submit to the will of God and to believe for His healing in my body. I don’t know how it will come about. But I believe it will.

I pray and praise constantly and depend on the Lord to help me make decisons about treatment … or no treatment; surgery … or no surgery. Where He leads me I will follow. And, when the healing is manifest God alone will receive the glory.

As a survivor of both breast and colon cancers, I want to always bring cancer awareness to the general public. While I have not had ovarian cancer nor known anyone close to me who has, I was struck to realize how easily the symptoms of this horrible disease can be mistaken for minor health problems. Don’t take chances with your life, if you or someone you love shows any of the symptoms listed below, please go to your gynecologist and explain your symptoms.

Ovarian cancer is often known as the silent disease because so many women don’t realize they have it until it’s too late. As a cancer survivor, I always want to take advantage of getting any cancer information out to the public. According to Mark Messing, M.D., a gynecological oncologist with the Baylor Health Care System in Texas, some of the earliest signs of ovarian cancer are:

* Bloating
* Pelvic pain
* Abdominal pain
* Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
* Changes in urinary or bowel functions

Unfortunately, these symptoms are very common to many women and can certainly be signs of other problems. However, if you or someone you love shows any of these symptoms and they persist over a few weeks, over-the-counter meds aren’t working, etc, contact your doctor immediately. Dr. Messing says women too often try over-the-counter medications for too long, have bloating but assume they are just gaining weight, etc. It is better to be checked out by your physician than to try to doctor yourself or ignore the symptoms. Many times ovarian cancer will not be the problem. But in the cases where it is present, early detection is vitally important, as it is with all cancers! Don’t take chances with your life; you only get one!

For women who are menstruating, it is very common to experience ovarian cysts that rupture. The cysts may often be symptom-less and disappear by themselves. Nonetheless, in other instances the development of ovarian cysts may be a much greater source of worry.

Ovarian Cyst – Danger of Ruptures

The danger of rupture exists especially when identification during the early period of an ovarian cyst is not made. Intense pain is the result of an ovarian cyst that ruptures and this can lead to grave medical complications. Both infection and hemorrhage can be the result of a ruptured ovarian cyst. If the cyst does not heal alone, a doctor may recommend its removal surgically. The doctor would take a sample of the ovarian cyst in order to examine it for potential malignancy. But ovarian cysts can be responsible for grave and complex difficulties that might not arise if you were examined quickly enough after even the slightest warning of an ovarian cyst. If you are worried that you might have an ovarian cyst, then you should consult a specialized physician for confirmation of your symptoms as rapidly as possible in order to avoid any medical deterioration.

Indications leading to Ovarian Cysts

The danger signs concerning ovarian cysts may include pain at the abdomen also moving to the thighs and buttocks, pain during sexual intercourse or bowel movements, and perturbed or painful periods. Discovery of ovarian cysts is generally accomplished during the pelvic examination routine. A physician would then often monitor a cyst over about one month by using ultrasounds to determine if the cyst will heal by itself. If this is not so or if further pain or symptoms arise, then a doctor would conduct tests to establish if the cyst is dangerous.

Ovarian Cysts – Identifying Symptoms

Severe pain is one result of a cyst that ruptures, but severe medical complications can also arise. An ovarian cyst that has broken open can display very similar symptoms to that of a normal cyst. Severe pain in both cases is a common factor. Because ovarian cysts often develop without symptoms for many women and then vanish without any medical intervention, the disadvantage is that without paying attention, serious medical complications may arise. These could include rupture of the cyst or torsion or pressure on nearby organs. Women with ovarian cysts that have broken will have symptoms such as pain occurring outside of their normal menstrual cycle, particularly just after or just before. This pain is often referred to by victims as piercing and sharp in the lower abdomen when rupture of an ovarian cyst happens. The abdomen might thus become more sensitive or distended upon an ovarian cyst rupturing.

Ovarian Cysts – Getting a Diagnosis

It is the medical team in an emergency department for critical condition patients that will first stabilize your condition while diagnosing the rupture of the ovarian cyst. An emergency gynecologist or doctor can use several tests for the diagnosis of the rupture of ovarian cysts. The doctor will test a sample of your blood to find out from various items what your condition is. To see how many red blood cells you have, your hematocrit level will also be evaluated. A hematocrit level that is weak may suggest that significant internal bleeding has caused anemia. Checks for blood or pus as a sign of infection or information in the ovaries are done by testing urine to see if a ruptured ovarian cyst is the cause. A pregnancy test is also a major part of the procedure as ruptures of ovarian cysts often provoke indications of pregnancy in the fallopian tubes known as ectopic pregnancy.

How to Treat Ovarian Cysts

Several online information sources exist about the treatment of ovarian cysts, because ovarian cysts are so common. Women should receive this information about the ovarian cysts that may rupture in either an asymptomatic or a malignant fashion. However, with the multiple techniques available to treat ovarian cysts, it is wise to appreciate that some may be expensive and others may be designed only to relieve a symptom rather than to treat a problem. The treatment must be made on the real cause of the problem with a cyst if a solution is to be implemented that will work over the long term. A holistic program is there for the right choice if you are looking for a real solution to a ruptured ovarian cyst.

Radiation therapy for ovarian cancer is a long recognized tool in destroying the tumors that are threatening your life. Unfortunately, this realization does not make dealing with side effects of radiation therapy for ovarian cancer any easier. The most commonly reported side effects of this therapy are three fold:

1. Nausea. This is felt almost immediately after radiation treatments and may last as long as five to eight hours. In some cases the body may begin by having preemptive nausea when you are ready to go to a radiation treatment appointment and you will already feel queasy even before you set foot into the treatment center. While there is little that may be done to prevent the nausea, there are some steps that may make it a bit easier to deal with: first and foremost, consider eating only bland foods sparingly on the day of your therapy appointment. Saltine crackers, Jell-O, or even thinned oatmeal may be sufficient to keep you from being overly hungry and from keeping your stomach to give you too much trouble. In severe cases, your doctor may prescribe medication to control your nausea.

2. Vomiting. When nausea progresses to vomiting, you will find that the worst part of dealing with this side effect of radiation therapy for your ovarian cancer is the absence of feeling better once the content of your stomach has been purged. Instead, you may continue to suffer from dry heaves and feel very little relief until much later in the evening. Limit your food intake on days that you are scheduled to undergo radiation therapy to only include bland foods that will cause the least rise in bile. Plain toast, white bread, cooked chicken, or even just a glass of milk may be your best bet. While you know that vomiting will happen, the absence of increased levels of bile will prevent the painful throat burn. In addition, make sure that you carry discrete bags to catch your vomit. Women have reported that the fear of vomiting without having a suitable container is about as bad as vomiting itself.

3. Diarrhea. It is noteworthy that this is a side effect that comes on slowly during your ovarian cancer radiation treatment. You may think you are home free until suddenly a couple of weeks into the treatment you develop persistent and painful diarrhea. At this stage it is crucial to switch to a clear diet, such as Jell-O, clear broth, and any other food you can see through. In addition, switch your food intake to several small meals throughout the day instead of the customary three sit down meals. By giving your intestines time to process the foods, you will find that nutrient absorption is greatly increased.

The most dangerous aspect when dealing with side effects of radiation therapy for ovarian cancer is a failure to recognize the odds of dehydration and nutritional deficiencies. Vitamin and mineral supplementation is crucial and you will find that increasing your water intake dramatically – sometimes actually switching to pediatric rehydration products – is vital to keep your cell functions and organ working.

Overcoming Breast Cancer with the Season’s of God

How I accepted the feelings and emotions of having Breast Cancer

My husband and I go to a wonderful church. Our pastor is like no other. He is a great teacher. He teaches us how the Bible can help us with our daily lives. This book the Bible has everything for a Christian life. It deals with every situation and it gives everything we will ever need to know. The answers are in the word of God.

Pastors teachings has helped me to get through one of the most difficult times in my life. This particular Sunday he preached on the seasons of the year. Our lives are ruled by the seasons. Each season has a purpose in our lives. Mans seasons are changeable and negotiable. Gods seasons are fixed consistent, reliable and not negotiable. Everyone has a different time span for their season. My season may be long and yours may be short. It is just what God has planned for us. All of your seasons follow in order just like they do each year. There are seasons of love, marriage, death, sickness, prosperity and success. Do you know what season you are in?

I was in my Winter. It is the coldest season of the year. It is a time when you are tested. Winter is a time to grow through and not go through, Your winter may be long or short. It may be filled with the problems of snow and rain, and things just are not easy, emotional stresses, death, sickness and the pains of divorce. Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own. Do you know what season you are in?

Then long came Springa time to take advantage of opportunities. It is a season for expansion. This is a time to plant seeds a time to grow. Spring is a time to give birth to new ideas and relationships. Your spring may be long or short. This is a time of great favor in your life. Too, forget the harshness of winter and start a new beginning. All doors are open to you now. The opportunity of college is opened and a new job or home. It is the time to buy a new car or even marriage. The sky is the limit for opportunities. Do not wish for less of a challenge pray for more wisdom. Do you know what season you are in?

A long came Summer the hottest season of the year. It is a time to nourish and protect. This is the time for the seeds you have planted in the spring to blossom. As soon as you plant the seeds the insects and weeds of the world come to destroy. This is a time to protect all good things. A time to protect yourself from sickness, poverty and enjoy the harvest of prosperity and success. All good things will be attacked. Satan will try robbing you of your God given harvest. Successes are to be protected and celebrated. Do not wish for fewer problems pray for more skills. Do you know what season you are in?

Next and last Fall this is a time to take responsibility and reap the activities of spring. Your fall may be long or short. Get rid of excuses of not succeeding, bad childhood, bad relationships and bad choices that you made in life. This is a new beginning to start to make the best of your life. Fall is a time to achieve Gods plans and his true purpose for your life. Do not say I wish it was easier just pray to make yourself better. Do you know what season you are in?

I learned a great lesson from all of this. This was the greatest test of my life. Pastor’s helped me to understand why this was happening to me. This was a part of my destiny, my journey with the Lord. This journey gave me my own testimony. I put all my trust and faith in the Lord that he would bring me through. It was written before I was born that I would have breast cancer. No one can change their destiny. Breast cancer was to be my destiny and my journey. I knew in my heart one day I would have a spring, summer and fall again. Then one day that spring came that I had been praying for. God had healed m.!. I know now that God does things in my life according to the seasons. Each season has a key lesson to be learned to bring you closer to God. Thank your God.

Do you know what season you are in?Many heartfelt thanks and love to all, my Husband, Family, Neighbors, and Friends.
Much appreciation and admiration to my Pastor, our First Lady and Church Family.
Thankfulness, praise and worship to God, thank you Jesus for sparing my life.

When ovarian cancer patients undergo chemotherapy, nausea and vomiting are the most commonly made complaints. Even as the delivery methods of the chemotherapy drugs may vary, by and large nausea is the universally experienced side effect, closely followed by vomiting. What makes this side effect so miserable for patients is the fact that even on an empty stomach the feelings do not subside, and more than one chemotherapy patient may find herself dry heaving repeatedly during and after her chemotherapy treatment.

Since ovarian cancer treatment quite frequently includes chemotherapy, patients and their physicians have been working hard to figure out ways around this side effect.

* On the day of your chemotherapy, physicians recommend that you have an easy to digest breakfast. Dry toast, Jell-o, saltines, or slices of white bread are recommended. Stay away from eggs and anything else that may be considered a full breakfast. Especially of note is that you should avoid anything with a heightened acidity, such as grapefruit or orange juice.
* Bring along some plain crackers and a bottle of water. Listen to your body and its signals! You may be surprised to find that you are craving food in the midst of chemotherapy. Eat one cracker and see how you feel.
* Once you arrive at home, plan on avoiding the smells of spicy foods. In the same way, avoid the smell of drinks as well. Some ovarian cancer patients have reported that the smell of their children’s hot chocolate or their husband’s coffee suddenly brought on a wave of nausea. To this end it is best to spend the first 24 hour period after chemotherapy without strong scents and odors.
* Keep cool when you feel nauseous. Patients have found that having the car window rolled down is essential in keeping actual vomiting at bay and may actually help to relieve nausea. Physicians suggest that the intake of fresh, cool air is instrumental.
* Come prepared for vomiting. This might sound like an odd piece of advise, but ovarian cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and subsequently suffering from severe nausea have reported that the stress over not having a bag readily available should the sick feeling turn into actual vomiting is so stressful that in the end the vomiting appeared to have been induced by the stress and fear of vomiting.

Some patients have experimented with anti emetic drugs and found that they yielded great results. Of course, any time you ingest any kind of medication, vitamin, herbal remedy, or anything else you must discuss it with your physician first! Some over the counter supplements have been known to alter the way chemotherapy drugs work and there is little benefit in undergoing the treatment if the results are not what you have hoped for due to the use of other substances. As a matter of fact, your doctor should be able to provide you with a list of acceptable and not recommended medications and over the counter remedies for the weeks that you are undergoing chemotherapy!

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is possible you may be suffering from cysts on ovaries, (commonly misspelled as syst or cists).

Cysts on ovaries are fluid-filled sacs which often times cause ovarian cyst pain. Cysts on ovaries develop when the sacs or follicles on the ovary containing an egg mature but do not release the egg into the fallopian tube. In some women, cysts on ovaries don’t show any symptoms, can be completely harmless and often times require little or no treatment. Unfortunately, some cysts on ovaries cause a lot of problematic symptoms, such as those listed above, and can actually be cancerous. It is extremely important to get an actual diagnosis if cysts on ovaries are suspected.

It is unfortunate that the above listed symptoms are often considered a normal part of a woman’s menstrual cycle or period. There is evidence to suggest that the cause of cysts on ovaries and accompanying ovarian cyst pain may be due to excess estradiol. Excess estradiol can actually in part lead to more serious conditions such as endometriosis, breast cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer or uterine cancer.

The standard method of treatment in Western Medicine is to prescribe oral contraceptives (birth control pills) to help establish normal menstrual cycles and decrease development of functional cysts on ovaries in the future. Simple ovarian cysts that are larger than 5 centimeters as well as complex cysts on ovaries are generally surgically removed through laparoscopy or exploratory laparotomy.

Some of the following more natural and alternative options have been effective in eliminating cysts on ovaries as well as ovarian cyst pain:

1. Avoid taking estradiol-containing hormone replacement in the form of Premarin, oral contraceptive or birth control pills or postmenopausal hormone replacement.

2. Decrease your consumption of fat.

3. Try and eliminate sugars and refined white flour products in your diet.

4. Increase your intake of fiber foods.

5. Increase your intake of soy and fish.

6. Increase your intake of ground flax seed oil.

The following supplements have shown to be effective in eliminating cysts on ovaries as well as ovarian cyst pain:

1. Soy isoflavonoids

2. Chasteberry

3. DIM (indole-3-carbinol and/or diindolylmethane)

4. Chrysin

5. Quercetin

6. Calcium D-glucarate

7. Vitamin B6

Some women have had great success eliminating cysts on ovaries and ovarian cyst pain simply by taking natural progesterone. However, a complete hormone profile would be necessary prior to treatment, and should be followed by an experienced health care practitioner in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

If a man is experiencing recognizable prostate cancer symptoms, normally the disease has spread beyond the prostate gland. The deadliest, as well as most common cancer among men, prostate cancer only has a cure rate of only 20 to 30 percent.

One in six men will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime with the likelihood increasing as they age (two thirds of prostate cancers are diagnosed in men over the age of 65). Because of the slow development of prostate cancer symptoms, it is vitally important that men begin preventative health-care measures early in life – preferably starting in the early 30’s. Among the key measures is a diet and sensible supplementation rich in clinically proven prostate and anti-cancer nutrients.

Prostate Cancer Symptoms

In order to have a better chance in fighting the disease, it is important to be aware of the symptoms associated with prostate cancer. The most common prostate cancer symptoms include a decrease in the size or force or an interrupted urine flow, painful or burning urination, frequent urination (especially at night) and blood in urine or semen. These symptoms are also associated with an enlarged prostate gland (BHP). In its advanced stages, these prostate cancer symptoms include frequent nagging pain in the hips, back, ribs, and pelvis. This is usually because the disease has spread to the bones in the pelvis or back.

Causes Of Prostate Cancer

While the exact causes of prostate cancer are not known, there are many risk factors that can add to the likelihood of contracting the disease. Genetics is believed to play a role because prostate cancer symptoms appear to run in some families. Having an immediate family member (father or brother) with prostate cancer more than doubles a man’s risk of developing this disease. Diet and lifestyle can also play a role. Eating five or more servings of red meat and / or high fat diary products, in conjunction with substandard amounts of fruits and vegetables, have shown a link to prostate cancer.

Natural Prevention Methods

Without a clear understanding of the causes, it is hard to know how to prevent prostate cancer. However, since you have no influence over genetics, it is best to start with the factors you can control. Diet and nutrition are the first factors to consider when looking at natural cures for prostate cancer. Your diet should be based on a wide range of foods from plant sources, including, fruits and vegetables containing powerful phytonutrients, which often contain anti-cancer properties.

Research studies on phytonutrients have also shown success in preventing and relieving enlarged prostate (BPH) and prostate cancer symptoms. In addition, an anti-cancer diet comprised of brown rice, fresh raw fruits and raw vegetables will not only promote good health, it will give your body the building blocks it needs to fight prostate cancer and other diseases.

Supplements For Prostate Health

Most supplements designed for prostate health are comprised of several key herbs and nutrients. Since your diet is likely to have insufficient amounts of many of these nutrients you need to get them through a multi-nutrient supplement that balances the dose amounts and takes into account the synergistic reactions they have with one another.

The key players for prostate health are:

•	Beta Sitosterol

•	Turmeric

•	Corn Silk

•	Lycopene

•	Saw Palmetto

•	Zinc Citrate and Zinc Aspartate

•	Grape Seed

•	Quercetin

•	Omega 3

•	Green Tea

•	Resveratrol (high potency)

NOTE: Most supplements contain Zinc in the Citrate form which is good but it is crucial that additional Zinc is included in the Aspartate form because this travels directly to the prostate where it is needed!

To learn more about each of these key prostate nutrients please follow this link prostate cancer symptoms and nutrients

Let’s Sum Up

As an older male, it is crucial to have a strong understanding of good prostate health as well as being able to recognize any and all possible prostate cancer symptoms.

Equally important for young men is to adopt preventative health-care measures early in life by eating responsibly, and investing in your long-term health with a quality, science-based nutritional supplement containing a high number of established anti-cancer nutrients. This must include all the key prostate nutrients listed above. (Less omega 3 which can be purchased separately in a soft gel).

Prostate Cancer

Adenocarcinoma of the prostate is the clinical term for a cancerous tumor on the prostate gland. As prostate cancer grows, it may spread to the interior of the gland, to tissues near the prostate, to sac-like structures attached to the prostate (seminal vesicles), and to distant parts of the body (e.g., bones, liver, lungs). Prostate cancer confined to the gland often is treated successfully.

The prostate is about the size of a large walnut. It is located close to the rectum just below the bladder at the base of the penis. The prostate surrounds the urethra, the tube
that carries urine and semen through the penis.Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Canadian men. It usually grows slowly and can often be cured or managed successfully.

Risk Factors
Any man can develop prostate cancer. Age, race, family history, and diet may increase the risk of developing prostate cancer.

What Are the Key Statistics About Prostate Cancer?

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer, other than skin cancers, in American men. The American Cancer Society estimates that during 2008 about 186,320 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in the United States. About 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, but only 1 man in 35 will die of it. More than 2 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.

Causes and Risk Factors
Scientists don’t know exactly what causes prostate cancer. They cannot explain why one man gets prostate cancer and another does not. However, they have been able to identify
some risk factors that are associated with the disease. A risk factor is anything that increases your chances of getting a disease.

Diagnosis
Most of the time, prostate cancer does not produce symptoms in its early stages. Approximately 40 percent of prostate cancers are not diagnosed until they have spread beyond the

prostate. Screening tests are usually the first step in diagnosing prostate cancer. When prostate cancer is detected early — when it is still confined to the prostate gland —

there is an excellent chance of successful treatment with minimal or short-term side effects. Mayo Clinic has many tools to help clarify abnormal findings. Read more about
prostate cancer diagnosis.

Treatment
Prostate cancer may be localised (only affecting the prostate), or it may be locally advanced or advanced (the cancer has moved outside the prostate).
If your doctors believe the cancer just affects the gland, they will discuss different kinds of treatment with you. These could be
·   Active surveillance (sometimes called watchful waiting) – where the state of the cancer is closely observed and treatment started only when, or if, necessary
·   External Beam Radiotherapy – where radiation is used to kill cancer cells
·   Surgery – where the prostate is removed

Treatment for prostate cancer may damage nerves and muscles near the prostate and the bowel and this may cause unwanted side effects.
The side effects of prostate cancer treatment include:
·   Impotence
·   Fertility problems
·   Urinary incontinence
·   Bowel problems
·   Loss of interest in sex
·   Change in body image

The good news about prostate cancer is it’s nearly 100% curable if you catch it in time.
The bad news is that most men don’t get regular checkups. Plus, many times men ignore the symptoms of prostate disease or cancer like: frequent urination, and weak urine stream.
The good news about prostate cancer is it’s nearly 100% curable if you catch it in time.

The bad news is that most men don’t get regular checkups. Plus, many times men ignore the symptoms of prostate disease or cancer like: frequent urination, and weak urine stream. And once they do recognize these symptoms, in most cases, it could be much too late.

The Ugly. African Americans and those with a family history of prostate cancer are mostly at risk.

I’m Thomas Lindsey and I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer about a year ago. And I am here writing to you healthier, happier, and in better shape than I’ve ever been. Let me share with you some things I’ve learned and what I did to overcome my disease.

Other Risk Factors of Prostate Disease or Prostate Cancer

* Having a close relative (father, brother, or son) with prostate cancer doubles your risk of disease.

* Having two of the above increases your risk to 3 or 4 times.

* Having three of the above raises your risk by a factor of 8-10 times.

Vasectomy Yes or No?
Early reports had suggested that having a vasectomy could possibly promote prostate cancer. However, after further studies, the current thinking is that vasectomies have nothing to do with prostate cancer.

If you’ve already had a vasectomy you don’t need to take on any special precautions. Just stick to your regular checkups.

Prevention of Prostate Trouble
Eat Less Fat: Just as with heart disease and other forms of cancer, prostate cancer is more prominent among men who eat a fatty diet. And the worst thing you can eat is saturated fat (that goes for all of us). Eat less meat and increase your levels of fruits, veggies, grains and non-fat dairy.

Don’t Smoke Men who smoke have an increased risk of prostate cancer. The risk isn’t hugely bigger but it’s best not to smoke at all. If you have any of the risk factors above, it’s extremely important not to smoke.

Have Regular Checkups Starting at the age of 50, you should have a prostate checkup. If you have any of the risk factors, you should start having them when you turn 40. Make sure you get the blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA) as well.
