Since the beginning of her career in 2002, Kelly Clarkson has managed to churn out several top-charting hits, like “Since U Been Gone,” “Breakaway,” “Because of You,” “Heartbeat Song,” and “Miss Independent.” She has been known to dominate in any genre she chooses, easily flowing between pop and rock-n-roll to country. This might be one element that fans love about her the most, and proves why she has been able to sustain an almost 20-year career. 

She cites her inspiration to become a singer as Reba McEntire, specifically her song, “Read My Mind.” She said, “When I was a kid, for whatever reason, [McEntire’s] voice sounded like home.” So, despite her ability to transition between genres, Kelly Clarkson’s love for country music runs deep. 

Her transition to superstardom

Even though she is now recognized wherever she goes, Kelly Clarkson had a very humble upbringing. She was born in 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas, and was brought up in church. She went from being known pretty much only by those in her small town community to being a household name. She says that her roots and her faith are what helped her deal with the unreal reality of fame. “[I’m] from a small town… where everybody knows you and you can’t keep anything secret,” she said. “I think [that has] helped me wrap my head around [fame]. I’ve always grown up pretty close to church and with God. He’s the only One I can lean on.”

She also revealed that she had a great childhood, but that it was hard for her and her mom, who was a single mother. This struggle, but being able to find the beauty in it, could be another reason why Kelly Clarkson has stayed so humble and grounded amongst her superstardom. She did not have her father in her life, and opened up about that experience. “I think If you don’t grow up with it… it’s hard to miss something you never had,” she said in an interview with Today. 

Physical transformation

Throughout her career, Kelly Clarkson has gone through several stages of weight loss and gain. She opened up in 2017 about why she was more on the thin side towards the beginning of her career. She revealed that the pressure of fame and Hollywood was behind her slim appearance. “I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life,” she said. 

She also shared that while most may think of “skinny” equating happiness, Kelly is quite the opposite. “People think, ‘Oh, there’s something wrong with her. She’s putting on weight,” Clarkson told the magazine. “I’m like, ‘Oh, no! I’m sorry, but that represents happiness in my emotional world. For me, when I’m skinny is usually when I’m not doing well.” And she has been vocal about defending her happiness to whoever tries to tear her down. In response to hecklers on the internet who teased the American Idol singer for being “fat,” she responded, “I’m still f—ing awesome.”

Weirdly enough, this isn’t something that was invented during the pandemic, ear makeup has been around for the past couple of years, but the wide use of masks and face coverings definitely urged this unusual trend closer to being mainstream. 

It makes perfect sense if you think about it. With half of your face covered for your own safety and virus protection, you might as well find other ways to express yourself. Many chose the classic route of cutting and coloring their hair and wearing brighter eyeshadows, but the true creatives chose to do ear makeup and we’re kind of loving it. It’s fresh, it’s fun, it’s creative and it’s something new to try. We’re loving all the unique takes on this trend and we can only hope you’ll get inspired by these and try some of them out. 

We can’t talk about ear makeup and not mention Martha Butterworth, it seems like she was one of the first makeup artists to venture into ear makeup. She’s not afraid to use not only makeup but also various little accessories and even tiny figurines to create little works of art on her ears. Her themes range from floral designs to bizarre but romantic scenes. Sometimes her ear makeup creations are creepy and sometimes they even touch upon religious symbolism. 

Some people on TikTok and Instagram have attempted to emulate the looks Martha was creating, others created their own visions. It seems like even the fashion industry is ready to hop onto this trend, but with a more minimalistic approach of solid colors and geometric shapes.

We love it all, be it just some dots, dashes, and lines, colored in earlobes, gold accents, or just glitter, sequins, crystals, and stars all over the ear. Match your ear makeup to your eye  makeup or make it a pop of color in contrast to a nude everyday look. The more unique the better, after all, it’s all about expressing yourself and when the medium of self-expression is so strange, you might as well go all out.

People focused on her love life over her career

Unfortunately like many other women in Hollywood, her various romances and the drama that came with them were the focus rather than her acting chops. We all remember her romance with fellow actor Dennis Quaid in 2000. They met while filming the movie with Innerspace and the chemistry was instant. Their marriage began in 1991, and they had a daughter and son together. But in 2000, after nine happy years, the couple decided to divorce. Then she met Russell Crowe on Proof of Life and they started dating. Due to the timeline, people assumed Meg was cheating on Dennis and stopped seeing her as a good girl, the reputation she used to have. The scandal affected her greatly, and she then broke up with Crowe in 2000.

It’s completely unfair that women have this double standard while men are praised and encouraged to date as many women as possible. It’s safe to say that this scandal didn’t affect the careers of the very famous Dennis Quaid and Russell Crowe. 

Acting burned her, and burned her out

After the relationship drama led to constant whispers from her peers in Hollywood and the media, she consciously took a step back from acting. Her 2003 film In the Cut was criticized harshly, and that was when she was done. In 2015, she shifted from actor to director for the 2015 movie Ithaca. She said that directing made her feel less burned out. She also believes that getting famous at such a young age limited her growth. Meg Ryan made sure to tell the interviewer that she wasn’t complaining about reaching such a high level of fame, but that there are “fundamental disadvantages” for your soul, brain and personal identity. 

Additionally, many people said that her role in In The Cut is what led to Hollywood locking her out of roles. She went from portraying an innocent girl next doors to portrayed a racy schoolteacher in an R-rated erotic thriller that was quite edgy at the time. Crisis said that the nudity in the film as well as her straying from her usual, more family-friendly archetype, led the media and the industry to blacklist her. 

We’re living in a very different time now, where a woman wouldn’t be chastised for expressing her sexuality. Instead, she would be seen as empowered and have the free will to do whatever she wants with her body. Growing up famous in the 80s and 90s when there was so much misogyny and sexism wasn’t easy for any woman, and it seems like the experience broke Meg down a little bit. We feel for her, and hope that she’s come into her own as a director and human being. She also told InStyle in 2019 that she’s “focused on producing”.

Hollywood hit her with ageism

Her talent didn’t dwindle as she got older, but Hollywood treated her differently as she got older. In an interview with the NYT, she said that booking roles was extremely difficult, since she started in romcoms and usually they cast younger girls in these roles. But doing this put her in a box and didn’t let her audition for more serious roles, with the focus instead being on how she looked. Apparently, she embraced getting older and said that she appreciated all the experiences each year has given her. 

We hope that Meg Ryan reinvents herself on her own terms, since so much of her life has been dictated by Hollywood. Still, it seems like she’ll do this from the privacy of her own home, away from the scrutiny of being in the public away, and away from the pressure of celebrity.

Speaking of amazing careers Scarlett Johansson has had one. Her beauty and ability to land roles has afforded her this. What has also made an impact is her earlier time being in the field of film and TV. She has starred in Home Alone 3, The Horse Whisperer. Even before gaining these roles Ms. Johansson started as early as to her adolescent years.

Keri Russell

Last but certainly not least we have Kerri Russell stars in early films like Honey I Blew up the Kids, and let’s not forget Boy Meets World. She also showed up in Married… With Children.

On the surface, this film is about two best friends, Stephanie and Emily. Stephanie has a parenting vlog, and Emily is a secretive member of upper-class society — the two of them have children that attend the same school. After Emily goes missing, her friend investigates. But is Emily really missing at all? Under the surface, this wealthy mother hides something more sinister beneath the surface, and she’ll go to any length to get what she wants. 

Mr & Mrs Smith

This assassin movie is notorious for the real-life affairs that went on behind the scenes, but with a movie helmed by real-life femme-fatale Angelina Jolie, this role was basically made for her. She plays an assassin, who is assigned to hunt down her fellow assassin husband. Love, comedy, action — this flick really has it all. 

LA Confidential

This 1997 neo-noir flick is all about corruption in LA during the 50s. Through the investigation of three different policemen, we get to know sex worker Lynn Bracken, who causes a serious rift between all three cops. She’s as striking as she is dangerous, but is a unique femme fatale as she helped two of the detectives grow throughout the film.

Fatal Attraction

Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction is one of the most on-the-nose femme fatale performances we’ve ever seen. This steamy thriller from the 1980s starts off with family man Michael Douglas committing an act of adultery over the weekend when his wife and kids are out of town. But he chose the wrong woman for a one-night-stand — instead, the woman he sleeps with is ruthlessly manipulative, unstable, and impulsive. A fantastic lesson against cheating. 

La Femme Nikita

This is the type of rebel girl we love to see portrayed as a femme fatale — Nikita, played by Peta Wilson, is a skilled superspy, but she wasn’t always that way. An innocent woman wrongfully accused of a crime, Nikita becomes. Master of double-crossing agents and turning on alliances. The hardest thing for Nikita is holding on to her soul, which is a challenge with her fast-moving, amoral lifestyle. 

Wild Things

There’s nothing like two smoking hot, jailbait high schoolers to manipulate their way into whatever they want. They use a not-so-smart guidance counselor in their grand scheme, and use whatever tactics they need to get there. Just a little make-out sesh in a swimming pool and he was total putty in their hands. 

Cruel Intentions

We all remember the evil Kathryn Merteuil in Cruel Intentions, played by none of than vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar. She pulls the strings on everyone in her life, especially her step brother, who she has a particularly gross and manipulative relationship with. She was the definition of mean girl — and an edgy one at that. Remember what she kept in her crucifix?

X-Men

This might not be an obvious femme fatale movie, but one woman makes it so. Mystique was obviously our favorite character in X-Men, and not just because she chose to wear blue body paint over clothes, and only spoke when she wanted to. Honestly, goals. If this shape-shifting mutant can do all the badass moves she does while naked, she’s our hero.

1. You’re experiencing relationship nostalgia

There’s a very good chance that the reason you’re having post break-up regret is nostalgia. You’re just idealizing your past relationship and remembering only the good things. It’s pretty common to regret a break-up if you’re the one who initiated it. You starting thinking whether you’ve made the right choice, spiral into the world of what-ifs. What if that wasn’t the right choice? What if I jumped the gun too soon? What if there was an easy way to fix it? What if I made a mistake? And then of course there’s the dreaded “well they didn’t initiate it, so clearly it wasn’t that bad, what if it’s all in my head?”. Just try to stay calm and avoid overthinking. You probably did the right thing and you just need time. Talk to your friends, they will support you and give you some much-needed perspective.

The blind date that started it all

In 2016, mutual friends introduced these two in London via a blind date. Immediately, Harry was taken with her beauty. He told the press later on that he immediately realized she was “the one” as soon as they met.

Still, with this big decision to go public, their fairytale turned into a nightmare thanks to the aggressive media, who harassed and abused his lovely girlfriend. The Prince was embroiled in legal battles to keep false rumors out of the papers. Photographers and reporters tried to get into Meghan’s home and even harassed her loved ones and friends. 

The journey that sealed their bond

The British people and the tabloids hoped that by poking the bear, they would eventually fizzle out the unconventional relationship between this mixed-race actress and the handsome redheaded Royal. But the opposite happened. They bonded in the face of adversity and were more in love than ever. Based on interviews with magazines, it seemed like a wedding would soon be in the works.

The big proposal 

Harry proposed to Meghan in November 2017, with a ring made with two diamonds that belonged to Princess Diana, his late mother. The central diamond? It was from Botswana, of course. How romantic!  They shared this sweet milestone moment with BBC, where they also revealed Markle would be leaving acting to work with her fiancee full-time.

The bigger wedding

In May 2018, they got married with many Royal traditions, but it was clear that they wanted to do things in their own way from the start. With a performance from a gospel choir and a young black cellist along with an address from Bishop Curry, it was clear that this couple was bringing a new age of modern diversity into Buckingham Palace. Some were thrilled, while traditionalists weren’t exactly happy. 

A difficult pregnancy

Before going on a royal tour from Australia to Fiji in October 2018, this couple announced they were pregnant. It was good news, but they were about to go on a long journey. Placed under a public microscope, Meghan revealed later in an ITV documentary that not too many people have checked in on her, and the vulnerability of being pregnant (along with the challenges of a new-born) was overwhelming. Then, the prince was under extreme pressure which was affected his mental health. 

A royal son is born

On May 6, 2019, Meghan Markle gave birth to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Every member of the royal family was completely delighted, and it seemed like their newborn son would soon shift priorities for this attractive couple — drastically.

Stepping back from the royal roles

When their son was eight months old in January 2020, the Duke and Duchess boldly  told the public that they would start the process of stepping back from the role of working royals. The Windsors eventually let them pursue their new business arrangements, but claimed they would not be able to use the word “royal” in any aspect of their branding. In March 2020, their new life began with a final trip to the UK to wrap up loose ends.

A new life in California — and a new baby!

Archie, Meghan and Harry settled down in Santa Barbara, California, making huge business moves with brands like Spotify and Netflix, along with the launch of a new non-profit. Then, on Valentine`s Day of 2021, we learned that Archie would soon be becoming a big brother! When you let go of all that stress, magical things can happen. 

A permanent change

It’s been nearly a year since the royal separation, and both the couple and Buckingham Palace released statements that the separation would be officially permanent, setting off a chain of events that no one could have expected.

Meghan faces accusations 

As the couple ventures out to make a life on their own through charitable engagements and media deals, she started facing accusations out of the left field about her mistreating staff and acting like a diva. However, many suspect that these are lies. 

The infamous Oprah interview

This interview with Oprah Winfrey isn’t about new business ventures, but offered a rare and intimate insight into the couple and their bumpy relationship with the royal family. This was one of the most anticipated Tv interviews ever, and will discuss whether Meghan felt unwelcome in this family and was destined for defamation, or if she truly is a Hollywood brat who treated her staff poorly.

In the special, Meghan says people were “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and hubby, while Oprah says the ex-Duchess revealed “shocking” information, with “no subject off limits”. With all the juicy teasers they’ve released, it’s a sure thing that this will be one of the most-watched specials ever.

She says that she’s tired of this idea that only skinny girls are allowed to wear more revealing outfits and as soon as a curvy woman does it’s immediately deemed to be «too revealing» or «inappropriate». It even goes back to her middle and high school years when she used to wear the exact same outfit as her skinnier friends, but only she would get dress coded because her pencil skirt just “wasn’t appropriate” (since she was just thicker) — and her tank top was “too revealing” just cause she had bigger boobs.

4.Gabriella said that as soon as she saw this vintage inspired shoot for skims she knew she had to recreate it on a curvier body. When we think of Hollywood we usually think of thin people and Gabriella thought that it was important to show that a curvier lady could absolutely rock a look like this and look incredible, because we’re all different and beautiful in our own way and it’s time to be done with the rigid beauty standards.

5.Paloma Elsesser recreated Aaliyah’s look in this gorgeous tiger striped dress. Animal print is for everyone and we think it looks equally amazing on both ladies. 

6.Katie Sutrino didn’t think she’d need a DARE shirt past highschool but when she saw how Olivia Rodrigo styled it she knew she had to recreate the look. Seriously — just look back to the two decade old Grammy appearance in “that” infamous Versace dress and now look at her two decades later in the same exact dress, looking just as perfect. Sometimes life just isn’t fair. 

Jennifer Lopez has denied any plastic surgery rumors that arise, but so have a lot of Hollywood members who don’t feel comfortable speaking out about the work they’ve had done. The changes don’t seem too dramatic, but we do have to ask: has this flawless mother of twins used botox injections or. gone under the knife to stay young forever?

Botox is a form of injections for cosmetic appearances, filled with the Botulinum toxin. That toxin relaxes your facial muscles and smoothes lines and wrinkles.

Doctors and dermatologists have mixed opinions on this, but they all agree on one thing: she has an extremely expensive regimen of light therapy, needles, lasers, and microdermabrasion. Skin professionals say that the only way to get such a smooth, tight and shiny forehead (outside of plastic surgery and botox) is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on alternative treatments. 

She’s kindly asked the critics to not call her a liar when she tells her methods of looking young, which according to her, don’t include cosmetic enhancement procedures. Interestingly enough, the star said “one of my big beauty secrets is that I try to be kind to others and lift up other women.” We’ve heard a lot of diva reports about her in the industry, so this is an unexpected tidbit of info.

She came under scrutiny after launching her skincare line JLO Beauty recently (its star ingredient is olive oil), and claiming that her skin results come from this line. When she did so, she came under fire from a social media commenter, who said that Lopez “definitely” had Botox, and “tons of it.” Jennifer shut it down and put the commenter in their place, but the truth is still a mystery.

She said it felt like it “took 10 years off my face” but other commenters were quick to jump in and add their two cents as well, with statements like: “your forehead is behind your ears…that’s a facelift, not a cream” and “the brows and forehead doesn’t move at all when you try to talk or express.” It’s true that sometimes this singer’s face does have a bit of a frozen quality, even though she responded “LOL that’s just my face!”

Still, Lopez said that when she was in her early 20s, she went to a dermatologist with an ex-boyfriend, and the doctor ended up suggesting Botox. According to Lopez, she politely declined, and said she wonders what she would’ve looked like if she made a different decision, sure that she’d have a “totally different face today.”

She has spoken in magazines about her skincare routine, so while most of us probably won’t end up looking like Jenny from the Block, we can at least emulate her process to improve and enhance our own complexion. She uses a cleanser, mild makeup remover, and moisturizer with sunscreen. That SPF really does do wonders! It’s what J.Lo’s most renowned beauty secret is. Sun is insanely damaging — always be sure to protect yourself.

Her moisturizers (yes, multiple) are medical grade and prevent dryness and irritation caused by pollution and other factors. However, in addition to that, it’s widely thought that microdermabrasion, fillers, and yes, even Botox could be part of this beauty queen’s process.

Her bangin’ body, on the other hand, is thanks to Tracy Anderson’s help, gruelling hard work, and probably some body sculpting procedures. Tracy Anderson has said that Jennifer works out an hour daily and never skips more than a day or two. That’s more than what we can say for our daily workouts in quarantine, or lack of. 

Whatever she’s doing, it’s working, and she’s just under the spotlight because others are jealous they can’t figure out her secret. Botox or not, she’s still killing the game and looking better than most twenty-somethings out here.
