Lonely Planet has quality books and they have proved to be excellent for most countries.

However, over the past 4 1/2 months I have been in New Zealand trying out Rough Guides. It's been ideal for New Zealand, simply to avoid following the Lonely Planet trail every backpacker is taking throughout this small country (population 4 million).

I fly to Sydney today, and I have 5 days...I am going NAKED!!! No guide book. Feel free to offer recommendations or vote on my 'You Choose' poll, on www.nomadbackpackers.com

I am letting others decide what my husband and I do in Sydney. We head to South East Asia next and I am using Lonely Planet's South East Asia on a Shoestring. Probably the best option for exploring the developing countries of that region. Way to go Lonely Planet. Enjoy using them around the world.

Hey, I'm looking to get a Corgi, just wondering if (snow aside) he's good for long hikes. Can you take him for a weekend outing, say 15-20 miles in moderate terrain?

Great photo, btw

Cheers,
Todd

Awesome adventures! Looks like you are having an absolute blast and really experiencing the culture.

My husband and I are currently in New Zealand during our new backpacking lifestyle. We have been working at a Pub on Great Barrier Island for the last 2 weeks. We are heading to the South Island soon. Feel free to offer us any adventure or backpacking advice, at www.nomadbackpackers.com

In addition, I recently posted about what we have learned. A woman named Gillian had emailed me some questions. Feel free to add comments on what you have learned in order to assist other aspiring backpackers.

In my opinion, Cinque Terre is a MUST. I really enjoyed it when I visited Italy.

I'll follow your adventure on Nomad Backpackers, don't forget to take pictures of you and your backpack, I'll post them for sure!

WOW! That seems amazing! My husband and I leave on September 30th to backpack for a year or so to various countries all around the world.

My brother is getting married in Italy on October 9th, so we will begin our backpacking adventure in Italy.

It looks like you found some incredible elements of Italy to explore. We would love your advice for us. www.nomadbackpackers.com

For about a week we are going to meet up with our friend Cup (Jacob) who actually lived in Italy with his family for about 4 yrs. He thought we should go to Cinque Terre. Any other recommendations, opinions, advice, etc. you can share with us, we would appreciate!
