McCain's pet domestic project: advancing the Republican plan to "privatize" Social Security. Privatize is a code word for transfering Social Security assets to Wall Street.
There will be massive commissions made on this deal, something McCain who was shoulder deep in the S & L fraud of the 1980s understands very well.

Without further ado:

Judged By The Content Of Their Character

Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of the day when his children were judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. In more than forty years since he said those words, systemic changes have taken place in state and federal governments which require equal opportunity under the law in every area. Granted, systemic changes don’t change the hearts of people. Consequently, prejudice and bigotry are still alive in individuals of all colors throughout the country. But systemically, equality of opportunity is now the law in employment, education, housing, scholarships, health care and any number of other areas. Today, if racial discrimination takes place in government or business, it is a violation of the law instead of being protected by it. That is a tremendous turn around from 40 years ago!

Will the day ever arrive when we finally just see each other as people? Not black people, brown people, or white people, but just people? Isn’t that what Mr. King foresaw in his dream? But, many people will never allow that day to arrive. They make their living reminding America what color they are. This article is not about people like that. They are Truth Smugglers whose political power and income depends on perpetuating racial division. If we ever realize Mr. King’s dream, those people will be out of business!

But, there are other less sinister actions in our society which continue perpetuating racial distinctions. The most recent ones have occurred in politics, entertainment and sports.
In politics, Barak Obama could be the first black president.
In entertainment, Beyonce was the second black woman ever to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition.
Lovie Smith and Tony Dungee were the first black coaches to appear in the Super Bowl.
How much longer are we going to dilute great accomplishments by referencing someone’s color?

In the days when discrimination was not only the law, but a way of life, “firsts” like this were important for social change. People like Jackie Robinson and Rosa Parks had a place in history because they went against an entire system that was structured to keep them down, and they rose above it. Courage like that is worthy of celebrating. But, those “firsts” don’t happen anymore.
Today, if a minority is elected President, the laws of our country will have given him/her that opportunity. If a minority head coach wins the Super Bowl, our laws and his league which are structured to support and encourage racial diversity will have given him that opportunity.
We haven’t solved the problems of racism in our country. As long as the human heart beats with the force of free will, there will always be bigotry and race based hatred. But, we can make Mr. King’s dream become a reality by recognizing great accomplishments on their own merits without diluting them by noting the person’s race.
If Mr. Obama is elected president of our country, it will be a huge tribute to his character and hard work. When Beyonce appeared on the cover of SI, it was be a tribute to her beauty and talent. When Tony Dungee’s Colts won the Super Bowl, it was a tribute to his skills as a coach in a league where winning championships is extremely difficult.
Let’s begin recognizing people for the content of their character and the greatness of their accomplishments without calling attention to what color they are!
When that day arrives, we will be one step closer to Mr. King’s dream!

Iran dumps U.S. dollar for oil trades

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's President, has called the dollar a 'worthless piece of paper.'

Iran has dramatically reduced dependence on the dollar over the past year in the face of increasing U.S. pressure on its financial system and the fall in the value of the American currency. Two months ago, partly as a rebuke against American threats and interference, Iran opened the Iranian Oil Bourse (IOB), an oil trading market priced in currencies other than the dollar.

PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS said it best, "When the dollar ceases to be the reserve currency, foreigners will cease to finance the US trade and budget deficits, and the American Empire along with its wars will disappear overnight. Perhaps Bush will be able to get a World Bank loan, or maybe one from the "Chavez bank," to bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan."

Members of the Rockefeller family took a fight with Exxon Mobil Corp. public Wednesday, challenging the oil giant spawned by their namesake to split the roles of chairman and CEO and focus more on renewable energy.

The family members, who describe themselves as the company's longest continuous shareholders, said they are concerned that Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil is too focused on short-term gains from soaring oil prices and should do more to invest in cleaner technology for the future. Separating the leadership roles, they argue, would better position the company for challenges to come.

Bush's speech this morning mainly focused on oil and gas prices. He blames Congress for standing in the way of exploration here in the US. I found myself in the unusual position of agreeing with him on this one particular subject.

There is absolutely no doubt alternative fuels need to be developed. Unfortunately, this will take some time.

The political primary campaigns are fully engaged and I notice the candidates are complaining about the level of jobs going offshore, yet not saying what we can do about it.

Why not work on American soil? It’s estimated that a 2,000-acre site on the 1.5-million-acre coastal plain of this 19-million-acre refuge in Alaska contains from 5.7 to 16 billion barrels of crude oil.

Perhaps we could get this oil out of Alaska and other places in the US in such a way that it leaves a very small "footprint". The profits from this could remain in the US thus strengthening our economy while at the same time showing the Middle East we are serious about reducing our dependency on their oil, possibly reducing oil prices once they figure out that we mean it.

The cost of sending U.S. dollars to Hugo Chavez translates into higher costs for most producers and products and, ultimately, for the consumer.

Red tape and choking regulations need to be set aside. Let the private sector be the solution. This time the federal government only needs to pay incentives in the form of bonuses to reward companies for performance on projects that produce oil on time or ahead of schedule.

It’s time for our government to get serious but then to get out of the way.

Why not ANWR?

Until then, imagine what would happen if every single person in the US decided that they have had enoough of paying an arm and a leg to drive th eir car and heat their homes. What if we just stopped buying?
Of course this will never happen because we are much to lazy to ride a bike to/from work, or take public transportation or car pool this would be much to inconvenient. Think about it people it is the concept of supply and demand.

David Barstow provided meticulous and aggressive reporting, even referencing how The Times'amplified Pentagon "surrogates" without sufficient disclosure for readers. The three remaining presidential candidates are talking up their plans on how to get skyrocketing oil prices under control. An article from the Dallas Daily News drew a full tank of clicks as voters read up on which candidate had the best ideas. Whether these ideas do the trick is something we'll have to wait and see. Call me cynical, but it's not like the government is known for working quickly...

For the last seven years we have bitched and moaned about Bush's aggressive foreign policy, his secrecy, his partisanship, and his expansive claims on executive power.

Wouldn't things remain pretty much the same with Clinton in Office?
The problems with Clinton is that she's likely to be as bad or worse than Bush on all of those issues.

Obama on the other hand is appealing. I think that Obama’s talk creates a very idealistic picture, but that there is more going on with him that he isn't telling us.

Remember when Bush talked about being a “uniter, not a divider?” He presented himself as someone who could reach across the isle to work with Democrats. He said he was “a different kind of Republican.”

Well, we know how that all turned out.

It might piss you off to hear me say that Obama at times reminds me a lot of Bush. I wonder if despite his rhetoric about change and hope if he is able to bring the healing he is talking about.

Both Candidates are well qualified that's a given. We need to start thinking like Republicans.

Who is electable. Who can win?
We need to think in terms of who can beat McCain.

That sums it up nicely don't you think?

Wesley Snipes Sentenced

OCALA, Fla. -- A federal judge has sentenced action star Wesley Snipes to the maximum three-year sentence on tax charges.

Prosecutors had requested three years, one year for each of Snipes' convictions of willfully failing to file a tax return.

Snipes' lawyers offered three dozen letters from family members, friends and even fellow actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington attesting to his good character. They argued he should get only probation, because all three convictions were misdemeanors and the actor had no previous criminal record.

The sentencing lasted the entire morning without a decision. A jury found Snipes guilty in February of willfully failing to file taxes for three years, in which the government said he owed $2.7 million.

The actor's attorneys said the government's sentencing guidelines weren't fair for tax convictions like his. They wanted him let off with no prison and no fine.

Apparently Chris Mathews called it racist and John McCain is demanding the NCRNC stop airing it.

“We asked them not to run it,” McCain told reporters traveling with him in Kentucky. “I’m sending them an e-mail as we speak asking them to take it down.

“I don’t know why they do it. Obviously, I don’t control them, but I’m making it very clear, as I have a couple of times in the past, that there’s no place for that kind of campaigning, and the American people don’t want it,” McCain said.

McCain said the ad was described to him: “I didn’t see it, and I hope that I don’t see it.”

Slick way to get some free campaign advertising eh?

Why is Barack Obama so comfortable around people who so despise America and its allies? Maybe it’s because they’re so comfortable around him.

But he’s not, as some hopefully dismiss him, a charismatic lightweight with a gift for sparkling the same old vapid cant. Judging from the company he chooses to keep, Obama’s change would radically alter this country. He eschews detail because most Americans don’t believe we’re a racist, heartless, imperialist cesspool of exploitation. The details would be disqualifying.

McCain is in great shape right now because of the Democratic infighting and his reputation as the Democrats' favorite Republican, that will buy us another 100 years in the Middle East six months at a time....

On the other hand, we have a lot of conservatives who I think are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate .

Think about what this could/would mean for a Hillary/Obama ticket or a Obama/Hillary ticket.

In my view of it - I think Hillary would accept the nomination of VP because this would just about guarantee her a win in 2012, she would probably get a two term Presidency out of this.

After that, Chelsea would be old enough to run standing on her lifetime experience as the daughter of the President, giving us at least another 20 years of Clintons.
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies ev'ryone goes, 'cause everyone knows what that would be like.

I think Obama would be insulted to take the VP nomination behind Hillary because no one, certainly not the first African-American, is going to accept riding in the back of the bus when he thinks he has been chosen to be the driver.

Clinton wins in Pennsylvania

NBC News projected Tuesday night that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton had won Pennsylvania’s presidential primary, a victory that analysts said she had to have if she were to remain a credible candidate for the Democratic nomination.

Clinton, independent analysts and the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois had predicted ahead of time that Clinton would win the state, where she enjoyed large leads in opinion polls until recently. But after closing the deficit in the last few weeks, Obama’s advisers said he would have the momentum unless Clinton won by a sizable margin.

Apparently Clinton scored her victory by winning the votes of blue-collar workers, women and whites in an election where the economy was the dominant concern. So Clinton goes on to fight another day.

Hillary Clinton warned Tehran on Tuesday that if she were president, the United States could "totally obliterate" Iran in retaliation for a nuclear strike against Israel.

On the day of a crucial vote in her nomination battle against fellow Democrat Barack Obama, the New York senator said she wanted to make clear to Tehran what she was prepared to do as president in hopes that this warning would deter any Iranian nuclear attack against the Jewish state.

"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran (if it attacks Israel).

Obama says he would respond "forcefully and swiftly" to an Iranian attack against Israel or any other U.S. ally, whether conventional or nuclear.

Neither one of these approaches is of any comfort.....more unbelievable rhetoric that serves to do nothing but provoke a worsening of the situation in the Middle East.
