We`re back!

2011-05-07T09:25:00.000-07:00

I am returning back to my blog after almost two years. Nice to be back! Two celebrity birthdays today.

Gary Cooper was an American actor, most well known for his roles in including A Farewell to Arms and the western High Noon. He started out in Los Angeles looking for work as a cartoonist, but quickly found a new career in the film industry. His handsome and quiet demeanor made him a big success in Hollywood, and he was rumored to have had affairs with Marlene Dietrich and Grace Kelly.

Another celebrity birthday today is Eva Peron, the wife of one-time president of Argentina, Juan Peron. She was the Argentinian public`s darling, and her legacy inspired the film Evita, with Madonna portraying her.

On November 7th 1951, screen beauty Ava Gardner married longtime love, singing sensation Frank Sinatra. After a torrid affair that made headlines worldwide, Frank left his devoted wife Nancy to be with Ava. Frank was Ava's third husband, after actor Mickey Rooney and jazz composer Artie Shaw. They stayed together for six years and remained close friends long after their divorce in 1957.

Jayne Mansfield - Not Your Average Dumb Blonde

2009-11-09T18:37:00.000-08:00

Quick fact: Our Idol of the Month Jayne Mansfield was best known for her sexy physique and dumb blonde on-screen personality, but in reality she had a reported IQ of 163. That rating is considered "Genius" on the Intelligence Quotient scale.

Blake Lively Vintage Pigtails

Blake Lively is starring as the teenage version of the character Pippa Lee in the in the upcoming film "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee". Her role is set partly in the late 1960's where she sports some very vintage garb. In one scene, she wears cute pigtails and a very sweet undergarment set. See more (albeit fuzzy) photos below, along with pics of Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner and Brigitte Bardot in pigtails.

Idol of the Month: Jayne Mansfield

2009-11-04T10:34:00.001-08:00

Here at the Vintage Vault, we will be celebrating a famous woman or man from our favorite eras each month. This month's selection features the lesser known blond bombshell of the fifties and sixties, Jayne Mansfield.

Jayne Mansfield (nee Vera Jayne Palmer) was born on April 19, 1933 in Pennsylvania. After moving around the country with her first husband, army officer Paul Mansfield, and studying drama at the Dallas Institute of Performing Arts and UCLA, Jayne finally made it out to Hollywood to pursue her career. Better known for sexy measurements ( reportedly 40-21-35) than her acting prowess, Jayne was frequently cast in "dumb blond" roles. Her first big break came when she landed the role of Rita Marlowe in the Broadway Play "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" This led to bigger movie roles such as 1956's "The Girl Can't Help It" and the screen adaptation of "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" Jayne's career was tragically cut short in 1967 when her car crashed into the back of a tractor trailer en route to New Orleans.
