Tony's 65th Birthday

It was my manager's birthday few days ago and I surprised him with the best birthday cake of his life! :P Well, I think so anyway hehe

Few weeks before his birthday, he asked me if I can make a cake for work. He knows I bake a lot, but he didn't know I don't do normal cakes. lol

So I said ok to him and basically told him I will make something nice :)

I went home brainstorming and googled for ideas. I know I'm going to do something with birds and bird watching because it is one of Tony's hobby. He would go anywhere with his lovely wife for a weekend getaway of bird watching.

After sketching and googling, this is what I came up with :)

I have to admit that this is actually my second try in decorating this cake. I wasn't happy with the color that I put together for the first one, so I had to redo it again. :) I'm very happy with the outcome, thank god I change my mind haha

The base cake is a Lime and White Chocolate cake with White Chocolate Buttercream and the fat tree with Tony in it is a Red Velvet cake.

Do you like the cheeky bird on top of Tony's Binocular? :D

My workmates were all impressed with my cake decoration skill and asked me how long it takes to decorate. Honestly, it took me 8+ hours to decorate this cake, not including the time for the first decoration. If I ask my cousin to do a 8 hours cake decorations with me, I think she will run away. Sounds crazy isn't it? The time just passed so quickly when I'm doing this. But I really enjoy it!

I made up 2 Australian Birds using fondant and play a little game with Tony.

I pointed at the blue bird and the black bird and asked him to guess what bird it is, and he looked at the blue bird and pretty much in 5 seconds he said it's a Fairy Wren! I couldn't believe how fast he can recognize the bird! Especially it's fondant bird! Impressive!

He couldn't guess the black one as he hasn't seen it before.

Tony whipped up his camera and started taking photo of the cake! He totally loves it!

He didn't want to eat the top tier (Tree cake and Tony with binocular), he brought it home and kept it. :)

Frances's Big Three Oh!

Another 30th this year! :D

..and the birthday girl is Frances!

Recently she's into Tin Tin!
The Adventures of Tin Tin is a series of comic albums created by Belgian artist Remi Georges (1907–1983), who wrote under the pen name of Hergé. The series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century, with translations published in more than 50 languages and more than 200 million copies of the books sold to date.

I thought, since she likes Tin Tin, why not surprise her with a Tin Tin cake?! :D

To be honest, I have never read Tin Tin books before so I have no idea what is all about! So I asked Joe and googled it to hopefully get some ideas for the cake.

This is the outcome of it :)

Maybe for the professional cake decorators out there will think that I'm not there yet but hey~ this is my 4th time making decorated cakes, I think I did quite well hehe

I have Tin Tin sitting on the suitcases and holding a gift box, Snowy getting excited, an old ship and an old flying plane on the side of the cake.

Effort is totally worth it! To see Frances looked at the cake with excitement and the contented smile is just what I wanted.

After blowing the candle, we didn't want to cut up the cake! haha but after a few minutes of thinking to eat or not.. we decided to cut small pieces of it and trying not to ruin the looks of it!

After that Joe, Frances and I went to one of our favourite restaurant in Perth, which is Balthazar in the city. The food never fails. Excellent wine list and friendly service.

This is what we had yesterday.

Top left: Pork Crackle, fennel seed, piccalilli

Top right: Freshly shucked oysters. lime, coriander, chilli

Bottom left: Bresola, persimmon, ricotta, balsamic

Bottom right: mushroom, goats cheese, farro, truffle

Entree is just superb. Pork crackles has nice textures, nicely salted. Oysters was fresh and delicious. Bresola was excellent! I love the saltiness of Bresola with the sweetness of persimmons. Wow.. just packed full of flavour and surprises me.

Top left: Palate cleanser : lemon sorbet

Top right: Pork, jamon, black pudding, scallops, cherry mustard

Bottom left: Duck breast, zuchini, tamarillo, buckwheat, pickled beans and dill

Bottom right: Beef fillet, mushroom, smoked potato, creme fraiche

I have tried all meat and they were all wonderfully cooked! moist, tender, juicy, flavoursome.

Wow.. impeccable. I had the Duck Breast and what I really love is actually the spinach at the bottoom! It soaked up the juice of the duck breast and the spinach just so soft and juicy and the taste is just awesome!! Love it!

As for Dessert, Joe and I had the Date pudding, caramel popcorn ice cream. Delicious!

The only down side, the popcorns keep sticking onto my teeth!

and Frances had the Salted caramel with a brightly lit candle. :)

I got CHEATED BIG TIME

I am very very very angry and felt stupid that I got cheated by a China website that sells Mont Blanc Pens. Why am I sooooooooo stupid purchase it from them???

First thing first, I should clarify that I didn't know it's a site from China. For some reason I can't tell, normally I can lol.

So, me and my workmates thought of getting a nice pen for our manager's 65th birthday. We did a few research and stuff and I, watashi, wo, saya, Jo Serwey found this site and they only sell Mont Blanc pens. The site is call http://www.smoothmontblanc.com/

They have all the Mont Blancs for less than $100! (original price is around 400 bucks)

So i thought may be it's a old design and nobody buy it anymore, I didn't think much about it. Ask my workmates, and they said it looks good. Especially the website says 100% AUTHENTIC ITEM!

Damn it. I picked it up this morning from the post office. Saw the package with Chinese wordings on it.. I was thinking.. oh gosh.. (you know what I'm thinking that time)

To confirm, I opened the box and immediately know that it's a imitation.

Mont Blanc uses cheap cotton for their packaging? NO WAY!

Mont Blanc Printed crookedly? NO WAY!!

Mont Blanc spelled instruments with a space?? NO WAY!

Fail in designing a proper box? NO WAY!!

DIRTY STICKY thing on the box? NO WAY!!!

Whats worst is this!!! When I twist the pen, it made some squeeeky sound! WTF!

The nightmare is I have to go on live chat with a person named ANGELA for 2 freaking hours.

They basically forcing me to keep that pen and said refund me 15aud.

I said I don't want that imition pen, i want them to refund me today. They said I have to send the pen back to them first then only they will do the refund.

OK, I know they won't refund me if i send the pen back. Secondly, they finally admit that it is a High Quality Imitaion.

Err.. so where is my 100% Authentic pen?!!?

I have tried my very best (2 freaking hours) basically forcing them in every way that I can to get some money back today. because I know if i send it back, I won't get my money back and i will have no pen, and no money.

TEFAL EASY PRESSING STEAM GENERATOR

Nuffnang was having a Product Talk Bonanza this month and one of the product was Tefal Easy Pressing Steam Generator.

I've always wanted to get one but because I don't really iron my clothes :P

So I don't have much reason to get one + the iron at home is still working fine.

Well, Nuffnang must have read my mind, by having the Product Talk, I have the opportunity to try one of these baby :D

To have a proper test out, I set up the ironing board, have my NEW Tefal Easy Pressing Steam Generator, old iron and a really crumpled shirt from Joe.

You won't believe this, as I was carrying the old iron out, the water from the iron just dripping everywhere! I think the iron is not happy with the new sexy Tefal.

Okay, this shirt is the one that I'm testing on.

I'm going to iron right side with my old iron and left side with Tefal.

My iron has the steam function too.

The ironing was alright, going up and down the shirt 5-6 times to get the part of the shirt look straight.

Turbo steam! Gliding on the shirt 2-3 times and pretty much done in a few second! 0_0

and the crease on sleeves and pants are more pronounced/defined than with a regular steam iron

Actually Joe was the first one to try out the new Tefal Steam Iron because he has some working shirts that are super difficult to iron. Joe is very particular with shirt being perfectly straight. Why I know that? It's because of me. Apparently I'm a lousy iron-er!

Anyway, Joe tried it on a couple of shirts that he knows it's super difficult to iron. He was amazed with the outcome! With the steam, it just glides over the shirt and don't need to put too much effort! It makes ironing feels really easy! The shirt looked new after ironing it using Tefal!

Other than the easy ironing part, the design of it is very very thoughtful. Well designed in terms of safety and conveniences.

Here are some of the thoughtful bits..

Easy ironing, the iron glides over your clothes so you don't need to put too much effort.

Vertical steaming

Large tank of water. 1.8L :D So you don't need to refill so often.

Iron lock so that it doesn't fall over when moved.

Turbo function for a rapid burst of steam.

Multiple steam and heat levels to suit different clothing types

Anti Calc Function, so you can use tap water! Saves you the major hassle of buying distilled water. Calc is collected in the boiler, prolonging the life of the steam generator. It is recommended for people who's tap water is particularly hard (Ie high calc content) use 50% tap and 50% distilled water.

Electrical Cable retractable

Auto shut-off for the forgetful types (ME!)

Quick heat up 2 mins, (ready to use by the time you prepare your ironing board and first garment)

Wire can be tucked away

"EasyCord system" manages the iron cord better so it doesn't get in the way of ironing or drag on your clothes.

Not like the old iron that I have.

Even Frances had a go with it too with her difficult-to-iron skirt.

She was really happy to see her skirt is finally crinkle-less!

She's totally loving it! ^_^

She said it was gliding on the skirt and didn't have to press it while ironing! Easy! :D

I'm glad that there were Joe and Frances testing it out with me! Love to hear different opinions!

There's a few things that you need to take note for this product though..

For example, it is better not to iron while everybody is sleeping.. because the steam can be quite loud especially if you use the TURBO button :P It will go PHHHHHSSSSSSSSTTTT

It is a bit bulky and a little heavy but it is expected.

Instruction manual could be more detail and of course, be careful with the steam.

Tefal Easy Pressing Steam Generator is worth getting if you iron clothes very often and for busy people. Definitely saves ironing time especially you don't have to iron the same spot over and over again and there's noneed to spray your clothes with water before ironing!

It makes ironing more fun!

If you are getting it, it is recommended to get a mesh ironing board too, otherwise the steam will gush out sideways and potentially onto your hand.

This is a long overdue post, but happy things must share no matter how late it is! :D

After looking at the photo above, I'm sure you can guess what it is already!

It was my friend's Steve & Angela's big day last month and I'm honoured to be their photographer & the person who make the cake for them!

These are some of the photos that I took on that day.. :)

The cake that I made was a success for me :)
It was my first time making such a huge cake and for such an important day! Honestly, I was stressed for a bit because there were so many "just-in-case" in my mind! Thank god that cake turned out the way I expected!

Drunk Angela and Steve on top of the cake! (that's how they are when they are drunk in real life lol) Made some silhouette of alcohol bottles too because they are both alcohol lovers :)

The only thing that I never thought of is the heaviness of the 2 tier 12inch + 8inch size cake! They were HEAVY!!! Luckily Joe helped me carry the cake!

The best part was I was told by Steve and Angela's friends that the cake tasted awesome! I was sooo happy to hear that! Thank you so much to YOU that liked my cake! Made my day :D

Trees

I got an email yesterday saying one of my workmate (from other department) resigned from her position. I was curious so I asked her why. She told me, a few weeks ago, she went out with her children and parked her car at one of the Subi carpark. She got out of the car and while she was locking it, she heard "cracks" and suddenly black out.

A tree branch just fall onto her head and knocked her unconscious for a bit. She showed me the picture of that tree branch, it was huge! Ambulance came and brought her to the hospital for further check up.
Now she left with shoulder, neck and head pain everyday. Poor thing.. This incident made her see her life differently now and she is going to rest at home and spend more time with her family. I hope she will get better soon..

Everybody telling her she was lucky that she is alive.. Well, I think so too because I heard a worse one from my manager.

He told me 2-3 years ago, at Aruluen Park, a guy was taking photo for his girlfriend or wife.. not sure.. and next thing he saw was a tree fell over on her! She didn't survive. I felt so sad after hearing it. Feel sad for the guy because he saw everything and nothing he can do, feel sad for the girl, she's just there for a visit.

Please becareful with these trees.. I think it's either call Mary tree or Double Widow tree. They are native trees. The reason why they fall so easily is because the roots of the trees just growing on the surface of the ground instead of going downwards into the ground. That way the trees aren't strong enough to support. The trees is everywhere too.. it's hard to prevent and at least be aware.

This post is long overdue! Pardon me because I am still going to post this up although I can't remember the flavours vividly. :) But I can assure you that this place is the place to go!

and that place is Home Town's Kitchen! My workmate have been telling me about this place since they open a year or nearly 2 years ago and I was finally there to try! Food was gooooood... trust me.

See how pack it is! Fully booked! I was there for a welcoming and farewell for WC's family. Welcome her family to Perth for a holiday and farewell to WC because she's leaving to Chile for her adventures! If you wanna follow her on her blog, click here!

I'm so glad that I found this newly opened bar and restaurant in Vic Park! Honestly the look of the restaurant doesn't really feel like it should be here in Vic Park... BUT NO COMPLAINTS! I am totally happy and excited that they opened in Vic Park! Near me lol :P Get to eat good food every day~

Interior looked awesome! Comfortable seating and just nice in terms of spaces.

I like the paintings on the wall. Painted by Marek Szyler. Go in and have a look, they have 4 more sections. Looks awesome!

The menu was very appealing. I felt like having everything on the menu! They have Turkey Wings, Gnocchi & Pull Pork and even a whole fish! If it's not because my friend is quite a small eater.. I would have ordered moreeee haha.. really tempting.. but I controlled myself. Life is hard isn't it haha

We had Sliders Trio. It was yummo! Believe it or not, it's actually vegetarian burger.

Generous! Nicely done scrunchions. Crispy, salty & crunchy!

Yammous & Tortilla crisps
Which is the sweet potato dip with Tortilla crisps.
This one is so-so. The tortilla Crisps can be better in terms of taste and texture.

My friend had flat white. I didn't try so I don't know if it's good. But my friend did burnt her tongue a bit for the first sip.

I was looking for sugar for my friend and saw this jar on the table. At first I thought it was some condiment or something until I smell it. It's actually made from sugar cane and all the way from Columbia! It smells really goooood... :) I wish I can have a cup of coffee to try this lol

Lastly, the dessert. Pavlova roll with lemon curd.
Quite a disappointment.. I was really looking forward to a nice crust on the pavlova roll..
Not sure if they did this on purpose (maybe their style?) or they put it in the fridge for too long.. or didn't bake well. It was marshmellowy though..

I'm looking forward to try more of other dishes because it sounds good and delicious! Maybe you can see me there next week! :D

Easter Hi Tea

How's everyone's long weekend? I'm sure it's one hellofafun weekend!
I have been staying up til 4am every night hanging out with friends! Although it was tiring but it was awesome!

We started on Thursday night, from guys drinking/chillout session to Karaoke night at home! Alan has set up a karaoke program thingy for me and it is the best thing in the world!!! I can sing Karaoke anytime! OMG! I don't have to go to Utopia lol Thank youuuuuu Alaaannnnnnnnnnnn! We were so happily singing and lost track of the time! :D

Then on Friday night, 2 of our friends were back to Perth for a visit. We prepared a huge steamboat party for them. 3 hot pots! Non spicy hot pot, Tom Yum Soup hot pot & Super Spicy hot pot! So gooooood...

Played Ping Pong and sing Karaoke too. Then around 1am in the morning, after most of them went home, Angel and I got a bit hungry and we started baking!

Saturday all of us went to play badminton for 3 hours.. we are still SURVIVING!!!!
At night, Joe and I just chilled at home and watch drama whole night long.. Oh and I baked too.. for the Easter Hi Tea with the Girls!

We each made 1 or 2 things for our girly Easter Hi Tea.

We have Lemon Slices. I cut into round shape to make it look nicer~ but failed haha

On Sunday night, Joe and I decided to open a bottle of French Wine.. It's my favourite Chateau La Nerthe 2004 Cuvee Des Cadette.

What a beautiful and hectic weekend! :D

Happy 7th Year Anniversary!

Today Joe and I celebrated our 7th year anniversary!
Wow.. 7 years together!
Even when we talked about it.. we both goes "Woah! 7 years man...!"
People always says 7th year is the dangerous year, but to me, our love has become stronger every year and made us closer every time. I'm so lucky that I have him in my life, he gave me encouragements, gave me strength, supports me and most importantly he makes me happy. He taught me the meaning of life. I can go on and on about him and you would probably click the close window button! LOL.

We sort of celebrated our 7th year a week earlier at Restaurant Amuse for the dessert degustation that they hold for Eat Drink Perth event. Since it's such a "sweet" event, why not right? :)

The Restaurant Amuse's Dessert Degustation was absolutely awesome experience.
Firstly, I have never had so much dessert in my life for 1 night.
Secondly, it was such an honoured to be able to have Hadleigh Troy's dessert creations. I saw him that night too!

There were 11 courses in the degustation. Can you imagine having 11 types of dessert in 1 night? :P Freaking sugar high lol

I have Espresso Martini to start with. I totally love this cocktail! You've gotto try it!

Now first up, Caramel, white chocolate and wasabi.
Which is Caramel parfait in a white chocolate and wasabi shell.
This is like a bomb in your mouth. Cracked in your mouth and the smooth and creamy white chocolate oozes out and melt on your tongue.. woah.. orgasm man.. so damn good.

Chimay 2011
Chimay Blue 2011 sorbet, barley foam with a pretzel and salted cashews.
Less fancy on this.. it was nice until I had a quite hard to bite pretzel. :P

G & T
Gin and Tonic jelly with a drunken sponge encased in marshmallow, topped with lime zest.
Another favourite of mine. I totally love the marshmallow and the lemony taste of it.

Lychee, banana and finger lime.
Lychee as a mousse, a gel and freeze dried served with coconute pastry cream, banana puree and Gingin finger limes from Marvick Farm.
I love everything on this plate! I love lychee I love banana and I love the look of finger lime!
Honestly.. dried lychee.. what an awesome idea! I had dried durian before from Thailand, it was GOOD and dried lychee is equally awesome!

Mike Thompson (Galapagos, Mana Lucie, Snow White, Thai Pink Lady, Green Grape, Orange Cherry, Princep Borghese, Marmande, Pale purple & Black Plum) 10 different types of tomato made as a sorbet with verjuice and balsamic pebbles finished with Hessop.

10 different tomatoes used in this sorbet, can you imagine? it's totally insane!!! I will give this dish plenty of stars with ++++ on it because it's actually savoury but in dessert form! Balsamic pebbles! OMGOSH. it's like drinking Tomato soup but COLD and FANCY!

Bee Pollen and Crunchie
A blast back to 2008! Bee pollen milkshake with honeycome crunchie.
Love the old school bottles. Diggin it :D

Hay, Pollen and crunchie
Hay custard, fresh blueberries, blueberry syrup on cocoa and coffee crumbs with hay smoke.
I wish to have this again.. for some reason it's addictive! lol
There were smokes coming out of the jar when you open it, and you will smell smoke. It smells like cigarette smoke but nicer and smoother~ haha it tasted like smoke too! Quite cool.

Beetroot, pistachio and raspberry
Thirty second beetroot sponge, pistachio parfait, crushed mik biscuit and fresh raspberries.
To me, this dish is like palette cleanser. it was quite clean... if you know what I mean :P

Return of the 2007 Snickers
Chocolate and peanut butter mousse coated in caramel with a nougat ice cream.
It tasted like SNICKERS but BETTERRRR.

Apricot souffle served with a vanilla anglaise.
Just out from the oven! Fluffy, warm, smooth and yummmm

Last dish. Coffee Macaroon and bailey filled truffle.
So cute right?!! MINI Macaroon!

We were full from the dessert and on like sugar high that night! We talked nonstop like machine! But it was gooooooood.

As for the actually day of our 7 years, 4th of April, we decided to go back to where we first dated.
Fast Eddys.

We were Uni students back then and working part time at night. So Fast Eddys is probably one of the few restaurant thats opens midnight! I remember going to Fast Eddys during winter time at 1am in the morning.. it was FREEZING COLD!!! Got in and immediately order a pot of tea to warm ourselves, sometimes a breakfast meal to share and we will stayed till 3am in the morning then he sent me home after. <3

Anyway, before dinner, we went to the newly opened 140 william St Pigeonhole popup shop!
We thought it will be fun to pick something for each other in that shop as a small gift!

He got me an Eggling!(Check out their website) I can haz Petunia Flower popping out soon! I am bringing it to work to give my desk a lil colour~!

and I got Joe a mouse pad for his work! lol.. he wants one for a long time he said.. :P good choice! haha

It was a simple celebration but it brings back memories to when we were on our first date.
We were so thin back then....lol.

Homemade Picnic Hamper

This post will probably make you extremely hungry or makes you want to have a picnic now. If either one happen to you.. don't blame me :P

I was contacted by Yuka (shop owner of Zakka Box) one day and asked if I'm interested in doing a picnic hamper for her friend Aki. It's a birthday picnic for Aki's mom. I thought what an interesting project for me! I love picnics, I love food and I loveeeee packaging!!!

I said YES and I think I have done a wonderful job! (okay.. this is the first time I'm praising myself so let meeeeee praiseeeeeeeeee :P )

Tell you a secret.. After I packed up everything.. I was so happy with the outcome I wanted to keep it for myself! lol. It's just too beautiful to give~~~~~

Basically I've planned, researched, went shopping 3 days to get what I want for the picnic hamper. I think I did well in terms of I only had 5 days notice hahaha. Good thing Joe helped me. He gave me a lot of advice, ideas and helped me to prepare the food. <3

Aki provided me some details about what her mom doesn't eat. So I hope that she is okay with the food that I prepared for her.

For starters, Mango Avocado Prawns Salad.
Easy and delicious! Definitely creates an appetite!
This dish is probably the most problematic one. Why? Because I couldn't find the freaking mango anywhere in the supermarket! I went to Coles, woolworth and IGA but they sell none.
Joe and I ended up went all the way to Subi market to just get the mango. Thank god they have it! Phew!

Vietnamese Grilled Chicken in Lettuce Parcel.
I love this dish... it's packed full of flavour!!! Lemongrass & Coriander.. loving it!

Sticky Pumpkin with Sesame Seed and Smoked Salmon Avocado Salsa Tart

As for dessert, I made Honey and Buttermilk Pudding. I label them with Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad and ME just to put a little cuteness in it!

and lastly, a refreshing picnic drink. Apple Mint Iced Tea.

I can't believe they are all fit in a bag! I didn't want to give them plastic bag or box because it's more convenient this way.

Well, fingers crossed hope they liked the picnic hamper that I prepared for them!!! :D

30th Birthday Celebration (IV)

My birthday seems like never ending this year! Yes! This post is about my birthday celebration again! hahahah Well, it's my 30th afterall! :P

My 30th celebration in Perth was organised by my boy! Celebrated last week :) He didn't want me to know anything at all except the date and start sometime in the afternoon. :P
It was quite difficult to plan my surprised birthday party as I was with him the whole week! (We were in Singapore for birthday trip)

Thank you soooooooooo much for throwing the lovely lovely birthday party for me.. I love it!!

All of them put a lot of effort on making this party happen! They planned on food and decorations together with Joe and helped to set up too! Thank you so much guys.. you are the best!!! :D

If I can cook breakfast lunch and dinner with it, I FREAKING WILL!!! Thanks Leen!!! You wait for your big present from me when you are 30 okay! hahahaha

I think my friends know me too well.. They got me what I will use or like! I camwhore with them pretty much straight after opening them! A Prada sunglasses, a lomo action sampler camera, a serving plate, a Kikki K voucher and a cartoony looking bag!! ARIGATOU MINASANNNN!!!

30th Birthday Celebration (III)

A very delayed post :P ops!

Can't believe I'm 30 already. The number seems so strange but have to say, 30 is the best number! I born on 3rd of March and celebrating my 30th with friends that grew up with me, with my beloved family and my sweetest boyfriend in my Malaysia Home! I love my 30th :D

Joe and I flew back to Malaysia the day before my birthday. Feeling really excited to see my family and friends!!! My sis picked us up from the airport and already I can smell the curry mee that she bought from the famous curry mee shop! On top of that, she bought me Chee Cheong Fun and Banana fritters too!! OMG... I ate the banana fritters pretty much straight away and forgot to take a photo of it!

Then got home, put down our luggage and eat!!! Curry mee and Chee Cheong Fun!

Soooo satisfying.. The Best Curry Mee I've ever had!
If you are interested, the shop is in OUG (Overseas Union Garden) called Ah Loy Curry Mee.

After that 3 of us went out for a bit to get some stuff for my birthday party they next day.
So happy to go to new places in Malaysia.. so many things to see and buy! :D

and eat so many things too! :D burp!

My mom made bird nest specially for everyone at home.. mm.... :) Feel so healthy.. hehehe

I'm a kid at heart. I love kids stuff. So I asked my sis to get me 30 helium balloons for my 30th! Joe got me a balloon that says OH NO! The Big Three-Oh! So funny!

For my 30th birthday celebration in KL, I made it a sort of like a Girly party. I even have bags of girly goodies for everyone to take home as a lil gift from me :) Silly me forgot to take a photo of it!! I wonder if any of my friend have a photo of it :P

My family were as excited as me on my birthday. Maybe because I have such a kiddo-look party! With Helium Balloons, a Chalkboard in front of the house written Welcome to Wey's 30th..

I even made a bunting to hang outside too!

My sister is the chef for my party. She made a list of food a few weeks before so that I can make some food labels for decorations :)

All of us were helping my sis to prepare the food and setting up tables and chairs outside too.
Look at my birthday meal caters for 25 people!

I brought back the drink fountain for my party too! Such a beauty :P

Oh and a huge ham that weights around 5kg!

There's more food like Italian Herb chicken, pasta, meatballs and mom made a huge bowl of red eggs for me too but I didn't have a chance to take photos of it! :(

I'm so happy to meet my primary, high school & college friends! It's been quite a while I celebrated my birthday in KL... maybe 8 years?

Here I would like to thank my friends for lovely lovely gifts.. and being part of my 30th. I am very grateful to know you! I love my gifts very very much!

My cake is from Miki Ojisan No Mise. It was one of the yummiest cheese cake that I've ever had!

The most importantly, I thank my family for always being so supportive for my everything. They are the best! They have done so much for me.

It was my sister's first time preparing so much food, she put a lot of effort planning, cooking and preparing until her muscle aching the next day :P My mom helped my sis a lot on cooking too! Running around, plating up, cutting and cleaning. My dad helped my sis skewer the meat and fruits, helped me decorate my party, my bro busy looking for a suitable electric cable for my fountain and brought down a portable speaker too to play some music. :P and Joe.. he helped me cut up the ham and skewer the ham, talked to everyone and serves everyone drinks..

What an effort!!!

I wish I can celebrate my 30th every year :)

30th Birthday surprise continues (II)

I have tons of back log post about my 30th birthday!! I'm gonna blog it (hopefully) daily :P hehe Good things have to share right? :D

2 weeks ago, I came to work with a lovely birthday surprise by my workmates!! I got a shock! A table full of yummy nibbles, a tower of gifts and cute decorations for my birthday!! What an effort! :D I even have a drawing of Batman holding a light saber sitting on a spaceship thingy and holding a balloon from one of my workmate! :D Cute!

I was literally sweating because I was so happy and excited that time! Speechless and not used to the lime light! But really really enjoying the moment :)

Especially.... waiting to open the gifts!! 3 boxes!!

They got me the Royal Albert Tea Set!!

OMFG ZDNGKEHWODKSWEKSNL *okay that's the sign of excitement!*
I wanted a good tea set for the longest time and I finally got one!!
Isn't it pweeetty?? The roses are so intricate my workmates were afraid to even hold it!
Classic.. I love classic stuff.. I'm gonna treasure it forever!! Thank you so much to my favourite workmates!!! <3 I'm gonna sip my cup of tea one day with this beauty :)

Lunch @ Malaysian Stall, Subiaco Market

Actually, I have no idea what's the name of this stall. I've tried to look for it, but can't find it, so I call it the Malaysian stall.

2 weekends ago, Joe and I went to Subiaco Market to try this sort of new shop in Subi Market. One of our friends tried it and raved about the delicious Char Kuey Teow! As a CKT fan, for sure rushing there as soon as I can to try it!

This is their menu. It's quite limited but I guess as long as their food is good, there's no need of having 1000 types of food on the menu :)

There you go, my plate of Char Kuey Teow (Penang Fried Keuy Teow)
I must say.. it was pretty good! Kuey Teow was nice and smooth, enough "wok hei" (wok heat) and taste authentic! and what's good about it was they were generous with crispy pork lard! Yummo~!

If, they can add the Si Ham ( a type of clam ) that would be PERFECT!!! The flavour of the Si Ham definitely will enhance more on the CKT.

Joe went for the Nasi Lemak.
Looks like the Chinese style Nasi Lemak but no gravy.
Joe was a bit disappointed to see that tiny little piece of chicken wing.. Actually I felt sorry for him because of the tiny little chicken wing! I even offered him to have my CKT.

Fortunately the rice was lemak-y and the sambal was good but Ikan Bilis wasn't crunchy.
So, overall Nasi Lemak taste okay but not satisfying.

I would go back and try other dishes. :)

Some of you might not know that my BIG THREE O is coming real soon.
Yes.. I'm gonna have a hell of a girly birthday parties!! I can't wait for my trip back to Malaysia! I'm going to celebrate my big day with my closest friends and my family! I can't wait! After that, Joe and I will head to Singapore! My birthday gift from Joe! I'm gonna eat eat eat!! Don't worry, I will help you eat too hehe..

My birthday actually don't start until the next weekend but I have been receiving birthday gifts from my friends!! SOOOOOOO HAAPPPPYYYYYYYY!~~~~ (^.^)

My first gift was from Weiching! She gave me a Urban Locavore box!
How awesome is that!! This box is totally a foodie heaven. Urban Locavore hand picked the WA best products each month and delivers them too!

I can't wait to try them all! Especially the finger lime.. really interesting. :D

Oh! and her family came to Perth for a holiday and gave me yummy pineapple tarts too!

My second gift is a Label Maker from Elisha!

As you can see, I can't wait, I have started using it! It is soooooooo nice to use!! I'm gonna label everything in the pantry, fridge, boxes and everything that I can label! Even Joe wants to borrow it and use it at work! :D

and my third gift is from Lillian and Cindy. I sorta knew they will give me something (some craft stuff) but just never thought that they surprised me with a lovely homemade plum cake baked by Lillian and beautiful toppers made my Cindy! Look at those pearls~!

OMG the cake is soooo cute I ate half of it! They were quite surprised I ate half of the cake. haha

Other than the cake, they gave me some lovely gifts and cute cards!!

Thank you so much for showering me with so much love everyone!! I didn't expect to celebrated my THREE O a week earlier! hahahaha It's kinda weird to tell people that I'm 30 soon! What a weird number for me! Oh well~ I'm sure I will get used to it. :P

Yay! Can't wait to meet my friends, family and a trip to Singapore in a few days time!

Dinner @ Aisuru, Northbridge

I went to Aisuru Sushi today! Newly opened Japanese restaurant, focus on delivering good quality sushi.

Their widely open space with huge windows attract lots of passer by. I even saw this girl walked pass staring at everyone's food! She didn't even blink her eyes! Quite funny :P

Anyway, nice wide open space. Nice sushi bar settings. Friendly service too.
We got there quite early so we got a nice table. (When we left, the place was packed. In fact, it was full house at around 7pm)

We had some food to start.

Edamame $3.50
Nothing fancy, would prefer it salted :)

Creamy Popcorn Shrimp $15.50
Delicious! I love everything about it! Prawns were fresh, batter were light and crispy and the sauce is yummy! Quite appetizing!

Salmon Skin & Unagi Roll $18.50
I like it! Well balanced and I like the charred flavour!! I must say the sushi rice was great.

Black Velvet Roll $12.00
I like the name of it.. Just sound so... satisfying. Unfortunately, the sushi didn't satisfies me as much. Probably feels like a fancier version of California roll? I would much prefer the Salmon Skin & Unagi Roll.

Sweet Corn Tempura $9.50
Interesting dish! Perfect batter, nice tasting & well cooked corns. Drizzled with Truffle Oil and Aioli. Wow! I like it! :D Definitely goes really really well with beer! Too bad they don't serve alcohol :P

Chicken Teriyaki, Rice & Salad $15.50
Honestly... not a very nice dish.. the chicken could be more tender.. sauce wasn't impressive.. salad looks disappointing. It just doesn't worth $15.50.. Felt like they didn't put much thought for this dish at all. I know they are focusing and good making sushi.. but making a basic Japanese Teriyaki shouldn't be that difficult...

Agedashi Tofu $8.50
Taste ordinary and a lil bit pricey for a piece?

Overall, I love their sushi. Wide range and they even have Foie Gras nigiri Sushi & Hokkaido Scallop sushi! I would love to try their Torch Roll too next time :D

Frances and I found this place beautiful place while we were heading to Mrs S for lunch. This shop totally got our attention because of the beautiful antique looking tables and chairs and the prominent red umbrella.

Inside is even more interesting! Beautiful settings, cosy environment and very oriental. They speciallise in tea. Everything with Tea. Tea pots, tea cups, all kinds of tea leaves, and they even have a tea tasting experience. Check it out here.

Both of us browse around for a bit and we found a lil outdoor area for us to have our lunch.

The shop is separated into 3 sections, the front of the shop is all about tea, then the middle section is the dining area (indoor and outdoor) then the back bit is a shop selling antiques, reproduction artifacts and gifts.

Anyway, let's start with what we had for lunch!

2 pots of Tea. Frances had the French Tea - Creme de la creme
I had the Silk Oolong.

Served with beautiful China by Royal Albert. Very delicate and very classy :D

Service was great. The waiters were very friendly and attentive.

First up.
Fresh Rice Paper Spring Rolls.

Honestly fresh and delicious. I totally loved it! The crunch, the freshness of everything! To die for.

Frances had the Chicken curry pie

and Smoked salmon Korean Sour Salad for myself.
Our lunch is quite good but there's room for improvement. The chicken pie was a tad dry. Thats all :) My Salad is hell healthy haha! But a huge bowl of it.. it's a bit too much for me. hehe but good.

I wanna go back there again to try the food that other food bloggers raved about... like the kimchi pancakes and the scones maybe?

After lunch, we went to the back section of the shop.

The shop were beautifully decorated too. Everything is so neat and tidy. The stuff they sell is amazing.

You just have to go there to have a look yourself.

Our Early Valentine's Day Celebration

Hello~!!! How is everybody's weekend?? :D
My weekend was great! Well, I should say my Friday and Saturday was great as now is only 12 something in the afternoon while writing this post :P

Friday night is the usual friends hanging out night. We'll hang out at home talking crap, have a couple of drinks, have a good laugh, and the guys will have a ping pong marathon at home. I'm serious, it's really a marathon. They can play from 9pm-5am in the morning trashing each other. Well, while they are busy trashing each other, I did my Valentines Day Cupcakes ready to be delivered the next morning! :D

This is one of the Valentines cupcakes I did that night. It was ordered by one of my readers Imas. She is such a sweet girl! The reason because she requested to have the cupcakes written, one for her baby boy and another one for her hubby. What a sweet Valentine! Giving her loves to her family! I was touched by her love, I thought, it's Valentines Day, I shall share the love too! I made one more cupcake especially for her so they can each enjoy the cupcakes together! :)

On Saturday morning, Joe accompanied me to deliver the cupcakes. It was nice to see her, she's very friendly and her lil boy is soooooooooooo cute! We chatted a bit and guess what..

She made me delicious fritters!! So sweet of her :D
Nom nom nom~! Joe and I couldn't resist because it smells so good in the car.. so we ate a couple hehe.. Thanks Imas! Taste really yummy!

After that, Joe and I went to Planet Cafe at Mt Lawley to have breakfast. We agreed to celebrate our Valentines Day earlier because I will be working late on Valentines Day itself.

As Daily Planet Cafe is quite a new cafe and I have been wanting to go there since their opening, we decided to give it a shot.

No doubt, Planet Cafe is a nice looking cafe. Interesting layout and comfortable.

Joe had flat white and I had the usual English Breakfast.

Our breakfast was quite substantial!

Joe had the Bagel with smoked salmon sandwich and I had the 3 egg omelette with Tomato, mushrooms and smoked salmon.

I quite like my 3 egg omelette especially the tomato. I like the way the chef cook the tomato for some reason haha so juicy :D As for the omelette, it might need some more seasoning. Just felt a little bit tasteless.

Joe and I had a great long chat too sipping our coffee and tea. It was great!
After breakfast, we went home and have a short rest before heading to play badminton with a couple of friends.

I was really looking forward to play badminton as it was one of my favourite sport. Not a pro but I just like hitting the shuttercock. haha It's been soooooo soooooo long since I last play in a proper badminton court! I think since I was in high school?? Gowd.. I'm getting so old! hahaha

Anyway, our V Day celebration continues..

We went to the Polka Dot Vintage Fair at Scarborough Beach. We didn't know it's quite a small Fair so we didn't get ourselves anything..we walked around the beach and enjoyed the breeze :)

Our dinner was planed by Joe. He chose Blackbird Restaurant in East Perth because it's romantic and it has good reviews.

We chose to sit outside because of the view, the weather and I love the the street lights shining at the maple leaf tree. Accompanied with the French music that they played.. Gosh.. Felt like I'm in Paris!

For starters, Amuse Bouche.
It's Prosecco Citrus Granita.

Good choice to make the granita using Prosecco the Italian Sparkling Wine. Definitely good to start the night with a little alcohol! :P Refreshing start.

Then we had the bread too. The bread was home and freshly made! It has a hint of Indian spices too. Interesting bread! We love it.

Entree: Duck Parfait, Chutney and crisp bread

Entree: Master stock pork belly, lychee and water chestnet

Entree was good. Their plating up - spot on. Totally look like a photo from a food mag. Impressive! Flavour - two thumbs up. The only down part - my pork belly was a bit rough in texture.

Mains: Pork chop and scotch egg. It was on special that night, so I couldn't remember what full name of it. hehe

Main: Black Angus Sirloin and triple cooked hand cut frites with bearnaise.

The mains were absolutely delicious. Flavour - spot on! Plating - spot on!
Joe absolutely love the pork chop. the flavour is perfect and especially love it because it was a lil charred. As for the Angus, the bearnaise sauce was delicious! They surprised me with a few drops of truffle oil... it's oh so yum! Although the sirloin was a bit over cooked (I ordered medium rare) But with the sauce + truffle oil.. I'm happy.

Service was great too! Really polite and attentive!

Did a bit of a camwhoring to mark our lovely day. hehe

We finished our V day by watching The Vow at the La Premiere. I'm in love with the La Premiere seats! Sooooooo comfortable!!!

The Vow is a great movie. Unfortunately there's more sad part than love part. A bit regret choosing this movie because I thought it's a happy love story but it's okay! It is still a meaningful movie! :P haha Should watch it! Well probably not on Valentines Day haha

I should have blog about S & T Thai Restaurant ages ago as this is my favourite Thai Restaurant in Perth. Food is authentic, delicious and very Thai (because Thai people goes there)

I have been there so many times because I love (absolutely in love) with one of their dish.
It's their Raw Crab Papaya Salad.

I can seriously eat this everyday. I know it sounds weird because it's Raw Crab, but if you love the seafood and like the taste of the seafood fresh, you will like this. The salad is the most appetising dish because it is salty, sour, spicy, sweet and a lil seafoody taste! Mad love this dish.
The papaya is crunchy and fresh too. I like it medium hot although it might be quite spicy for some people. If you wanna try this dish and you can take chilli heat, order medium. Or else.. mild will be good.

My second favourite dish is Phat Thai. Huge plate of Phat Thai to share. Generous serving and delicious! Noodle cooked just right, not too oily.

Third would be the green curry.
Haha nothing special, but it goes really well with the rice hehe creamy and tasty.

Now, Joe's favourite dish in S & T is the Pork Larb. I like it too because it's not too heavy. Meat mixed with some coriander and onions toss with some sour sauce to balance up the flavour of the dish!

These are a must for Joe and I when we go there. :P But we are slowly trying new dishes every time we go there for dinner. A good dinner place to go to for good food and good price.

Last Saturday morning, I receive several comments from a person call Anonymous. One of the comments is about Chicken Rice!

I'm a Chicken Rice fan. So when a person told me there's a restaurant that serves yummy Chicken Rice, I will be there! Pretty much straight away. Haha.

I went to Hoi Bo (this is the chicken rice recommended place) at Bedford at 11.15am, thinking we are still early as they open at 11am, so we should be able to get a table.

Yes we got a table. Lucky! Guess what, there's only 2-3 tables left! Wow.. near full house after 15 mins from opening business.

This restaurant is full of Asian. That's shows that this restaurant is good isn't it?

We ordered 2 types of Chicken rice. The Steamed and the dark soya sauce chicken.
The service was fast and efficient i must say. First up, A big bowl of rice and soup!

The soup was delicious! Seriously yum! It's the preserved vegetables soup. I used to drink this when I was young, my mom would always boil this soup for me because it's my favourite. Ahh.. I want this soup againnnnn.....

and here comes the Chickenssss...

The chickens were succulent for sure, smooth too. I prefer the Steam Chicken as it has the garlic oil to give the chicken extra flavour. Pretty sure there are no other restaurants in Perth does Garlic Oil on chicken rice. That's pretty authentic.

But to be honest, I think the flavour of both of the chickens were quite bland. (OMG I sound like the girl from MKR.. yeah! yeah~ yeah...) Although they cooked the chicken well, unfortunately lack of flavouring. This is just my personal thought anyway, everybody's opinions on authenticity of chicken rice is different. Do go try it! You might like it :)

But I will go there again on the weekends for their 'Saturday & Sunday Malaysian Lunch Special' 11am-2pm. Most dish only $9.50! I wanna try their Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Prawn Mee, Char kuey teow & hokkien mee! Oh how I wish they have Asam Laksa! Maybe if everybody request them to do it, they might consider.. hahaha

Wonderful week of CNY in Perth :D

How's everyone's CNY? Did everyone enjoy this festive season?
If you hang around Northbridge anytime last week, I'm sure you saw lots of lion dances around!

For my second week of CNY, I got my first red packet from our friends Franky and Mira! The first couple from our group that got married last year. A few of us went to his house to "Bai Nian".

Such a weird feeling that my friends gave me red packet! hahaha I'm used to receive red packet from elderly :P Wow.. I'm getting old am I??

They cooked us a meal that I have never tried before!

Korean rice cake soup and Chinese style "Pen Chai" Mix pot.

The Rice Cake soup was delicious! I can't stop eating it!
Very delicious stock and rice cake is just nice.

As for the Chinese style Mix Pot, I think it consist of 13 or 18 ingredients in it. I can't remember how many exactly but the reason why they have to have those number of ingredients is for luck.

Taste really yum! I like it too!

After that we sat around the TV and cheer for the Tennis game! It was quite intense!!

and Djocovic won the semi final. Did you see the butterfly? :D

After that, we played "Yu Ha Hai" game! Translation should be Fish Prawn Crab!

Basically you just put the money on the animal that you wanna bet on and roll the dice to see which one wins! Easy game! :D

That conclude our night on Friday.

On Saturday, I went to have Brunch with Joe at Hai Bo near Inglewood. A reader told me about this place so I decided to give it a go! Will blog about it soon.

After that I went to Laneway Night Market with my cousin.

It's quite a cool and small market. Lots of quirky and vintage stuff. One of my cousin's favourite is the huge sushi pillow. I think it's a pillow.. ? haha it's cute!

As for me, I like the Tacos!

Poor guy making Tacos on a hot day of 40 degrees! I'm sure he is sweating like Djokovic. But his Tacos were yum! We had the Beef and Pork ones as the Beans sold out.

Then I saw the Burlesque boys running around Northbridge to promote their show at the Fringe World.

After that, went back to my cousin's house to bake! We were quite drained from the hot day so we weren't as energetic.. but we still manage to bake some yummy cookies! It's not an ordinary cookie... it's my favourite cookies that my mom always baked on CNY!

I'm so glad it turned out good!!! Not as pretty as my mom's but definitely taste as good! :D
I packed some in a container for my aunt too. Tadaa~~~!!! Look so pro!!! hahaa I think I can sell cookies too now :P

Popiah is Fujian/Fuzhou style Fresh Spring roll. Put whatever you want on the paper like crepe, roll it up and Nom!

Haha I didn't do very well in wrapping it. :P

After that we have Malaysian Ice Kacang!!! OMG look! My aunt got the ice kacang machine! I want one!!

She prepares everything from scratch! Unbelievableeeeee...

Mmm... taste so authentic!

After that I went to the CNY festival at Northbridge with my cousin! We are the only ones that miss out all the family reunion dinners, family gathering and I'm missing out my favourite Bai Ti Kong Night! Thats the night where you can see fireworks everywhere around our house! ( I was writing this half way, I stopped and Facetime with my family while they are Bai Ti Kong-ing :P Wow!! I love iphone! Feels like I'm at home! hahahaha )

Anyway, back to CNY Festival in Northbridge! Lots of people there! Lots of food! performances!

We had coconut juice! Refreshinggggggg!!!

Saw some performance.. I didn't take a lot of photos though.. :P because it was a hot sunny day and too many people.

I end my Sunday with friends and family at home, having spicy steamboat and watch the tennis final, Djokovic Vs Nadal. The most intense game EVER!!! 5-6 hours game!! Aren't they tired??

Congrats Djokovic to win the game and of course Nadal for being such an awesome competitor!! They are both awesome!
