Holiday Vacation and Parties

If I were to describe this season, I’d say that people are already on vacation mode around this time. The season is also when people have parties here and there. You can’t avoid resisting food during this holiday season especially when you have a province to go home to where food is served almost every hour.

I am sure I am likely to gain more pounds because of this. I may need fat burners again. There are foods that I really missed back in the province like the original Cansi (beef broth) and Inasal (chicken barbecue). I really can’t wait for this vacation time to happen.

MOA Concert of Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velazquez

I am sure most of the people like me are now busy packing things up and get their Eagle Creek luggage out of the cabinet to be filled for the coming holiday break. These are the times when most people are coming home in their family in the provinces. But this is not the case for Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez. Both will be having a fund raising benefit concert entitled “Kaya Natin ‘To” at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) grounds tonight, December 5, 2009.

This concert project is created for the victims of the recent typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng that hit the country. “Kaya Natin To” is a song composed by Ogie and recorded by singers and other celebrities in the country. It will remind you of the United States’ “ We are the World” concert theme in the 80’s.

Song Hits, Music Album Collector

My husband tells me that he likes to collect song hits and recorded albums when he was still single. He told me that every week he would save money from his weekly allowances to buy them not because he wants to sing but to help his friend who was selling them.

He recalled one time while he was about to ride in a bus, he didn’t notice that his wallet dropped from his pants until a comic and song hits vendor ran after him to return his wallet. That, too, encouraged him to keep collecting more. He would buy song hits every week in a bus terminal on his way home.

He could not believe that after he graduated from college, he has accumulated almost a shipping boxes full of song hits. But all were turned into dust when his ancestral house burnt. His sister was so sad seeing his brother’s collection going out but she couldn’t do anything since they first had to save the more important things like their clothes among others.

Call Center Job

If you are the type who loves to stay on the phone and does not like to bring work at home, working in a call center may be the job for you. You also work for eight hours but at least for now there is no traffic to beat because of the nocturnal nature of the job.

Working in a call center will surely have its pros and cons especially the agent almost always become the shock absorber of the companies he or she represents. It would be best to stay objective and not let the customers’ negative vibes affect them.

One Night with Michael

Today I decided to get away from my work-related routine and headed off to Glorietta’s Art Film to watch Michael Jackson’s “This is It” the movie. I have forgone so many films I due to lack of time but this one I could not afford to miss. It’s a good thing that my husband and son were game enough to ride into my impulsive whims.

Watching MJ rehearsing on stage and singing songs the whole world fell in love with transported me back to my elementary days. Seated inside the theater, I became that girl again who used to drawn herself in his music particularly during the 80s. I kept dancing on my seat while the sexiest 50-year old I had ever seen strut it out with Billy Jean, Beat It, Thriller and many more. I couldn’t help but text my sister my unlocked phone that she must not let this movie pass her by.

I wondered how it would have felt if I were that girl having a duet with MJ singing “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” or the one who played the electric guitar with whom MJ said “It’s your time to shine.” It must have been a kind of feeling that’s simply too wonderful for words. How fortunate these ladies were to have the chance to share moments with the King of Pop.

MJ inspired and touched so many lives especially mine yet he was able to maintain his humility despite the fact that he is larger than life. You could really sense his love for his craft that’s why his works will live forever.

This is It” movie was initially intended as a concert by Michael Jackson to be held in O2 arena in London. However, he passed away less than three weeks before the first show. The series of 50 concerts were being sold out. That’s why in lieu of the concert, the film compiled all interviews, rehearsals and backstage footages of Michael Jackson as he prepared for this concert in the big screen.

“This is It” the movie is now showing worldwide. As you will see in the video you can never expect that Michael will pass away. You will see how he was still dancing with his famous moves, moon-walking in the tile flooring even though with his age.

Seeing a list of well known people, actress, actors, singers, celebrities and even people in the government who have died in car and motorcycle accidents made me realize that riding a vehicle can be a risky matter. Regardless of whatever the cause of road accidents caused them, it is still alarming that this kind of accident really happen not just to ordinary people but more so to celebrities and famous people who are always on wheels, including heirs of the President in a foreign country and even queens.

It is important to really be careful when driving as well as to always check the condition of your vehicle. You cannot be complacent just because you have your car insured or even have mechanical breakdown insurance. It is worth taking extra precautionary measures for your own safety when on wheels, more so if you’re the one driving.

I saw how colorful the life of actor Heath Ledger was when I watched Bio the other night. Sadly he died at the early age of 28 from an accidental "toxic combination of prescription drugs. You can’t really imagine how the successful young actor just died at the height of his career.

It was recalled that a 20-year old Australian boy tried a low budget film in Australia just to have a break until he won the Best Actor in a supporting role in the Academy Awards and a lot more acting awards including the Best Actor in an International Award at the 2008 Australian Film Institute Awards, Best Supporting Actor in Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award , the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2009 and the 2009 BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Indeed, fame is fleeting and you have to take good care of your self also. Invest on your health, prepare for everything. Have a health plan for your family like Blue Cross NC. It is better to be prepared especially when you still are as young as Heath.

Dionne Warwick in the Philippines

If you will ask me to choose between learning how to lose belly fat or to treat myself by watching live concerts, I will rather choose to watch concerts. It is really one of my dreams to see more international performers live in concert like the recent concert of Dionne Warwick called A Memorable Evening with Dionne last October 2 held at the Araneta Coliseum.

Warwick famous songs are Say A Little Prayer, Don’t Make Me Over, Do You Know The Way to San Jose, Alfie, Walk On By, A House is Not a Home, I’ll Never Fall in Love Again, This Girl’s in Love With You, Reach Out For Me, Make It Easy On Yourself, Always Something There to Remind Me, You’ll Never Get to Heaven (If You Break My Heart) and Promises.

Sadly, her concert date coincided with the time when the country suffered too much from the latest typhoon Ondoy that hit the Metro. I wasn’t sure if her concert was a successful one but given a chance to have Dionne concert in the country again, I will certainly save for it.

After A week of Vacation

It’ been more than two weeks since I heard any new entertainment news. I just came from a week-long annual religious activity where we didn’t have access to TV and radio where I could hear new developments in entertainment. All we have was food, clean air amidst a rainy week in the province that’s why I am in deep need of a weight loss diet right now.

I didn’t even have information on what happened to the current concert of Dionne Warwick and other international performers in the country. At least I heard about the latest benefit concert of Apl D Ap of Black Eyed Peas for the victims of typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng.

Boyzone Member Dies

Another shocking report hit the music industry with the untimely death of Stephen Gately, Irish singer, song writer and one of the lead singers of Boyzone. The popular group consists of Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch.

Gately who openly come out as gay was discovered dead in his own apartment in Majorca, Spain. He was with his partner during the day he was found out dead. Until now no other reports on the cause of death was released. Hopefully in the next few days it will shed light to his millions of fans all over the world to what had really happened.

There’s a world wide call for support coming not just from ordinary persons but also from those local and international celebrities about extending their help to those victims of typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines. Actresses like Demi More and singer Josh Groban through their twitter accounts called out those who could extend their help to the thousands of victims of typhoon Ondoy.

Hopefully it will not stop with those celebrities all the people who wanted to help. Celebrities and ordinary people are both capable of helping. Doctors, nurses or people from any medical fields can conduct their medical travel or outreach programs here in the country.

Peter, Paul and Mary Member Died

Those who are in their early30 or 40s will surely remember the songs "If I Had a Hammer", "Lemon Tree," "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Puff (The Magic Dragon.)" These songs were popularized by 1960s’ folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary.

Sadly one of their members died. Mary Travers died at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut on Wednesday. At the age 72, she lost the battle with leukemia that she had for several years. Travers is part of Peter Yarrow’s and Noel Paul Stookey’s group Peter, Paul and Mary.

The group also collected five Grammy Awards for their three songs like "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Puff (The Magic Dragon)" and "Blowin' in the Wind." The group was so popular until the coming of the Beatles in in the mid 60’s. Still avid fans of the group are still there. I will never forget my husband told me that his cousin even exchanged her money allocated for her diet pill just to buy Peter, Paul and Mary CD.

Creed Reunion Tour

My husband’s best friend is really an avid fan of the American band Creed. The band was really popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. But sadly they disbanded in 2004 after three multi-platinum albums, selling an estimated 35 million records worldwide. The band is currently on their reunion tour in support of the new album, which will be released on October 27, 2009.

I am sure he will he will not miss the reunion concert of Creed in Amway Arena in Orlando this 15 of September. He will even stay in cheap hotels Orlando just to watch this concert.

Chris Brown Sentenced - Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004

Concert Accidents

Concert accidents happening on stage such as stage collapses are not new to us. You will recall what happened to the supposed concert stage of Madonna which collapsed during its construction and killed two persons in Marseiilles, France. It happened a few months ago where the accident occurred when the roof of the stage became unbalanced as it was being lifted by four cranes, toppling one of them.

Bloopers like this happened to Kevin Costner also. Sadly, it killed one person and injured many people too. Outdoor stage collapsed during a severe windstorm at a country music concert near Edmonton, Alberta. Lucky Kevin Costner was unharmed during the accident.

That’s why it is important to really check all the possible accident prone parts of the concert venue before the concert. Proper materials and industrial equipment supplies are also important to ensure safety.

We feel sorry for those who already have small kids for they could not witness how Lady Gaga made Filipinos moves with her full packed concert in Araneta Coliseum even if they would bring along with them quinny buzz for their kids. Unless they were lucky enough to have yayas or someone trusted that could take good care of their young ones. I used to be a movie and concert goer before but until I had my little boy which has become my main priority.

Hopefully there will be more Lady Gaga concerts in the Philippines. After all, she has been accustomed to the Filipinos because her best friend since four years old is a Filipino.

Of the new singers we have today, Bugoy Drilon is really something. The 1st runner up winner of Pinoy Dream Academy Batch 2 has a distinct singing voice in every song that he sings. He placed second t0o Laarni who is the grand champion of the said singing reality show.

Hopefully he will be given more chances to prove his talent although we can already see him in some TV variety shows. He deserves the exposures he is enjoying lately to prove himself. We learned about how this boy strove to be where he is now, from a small province boy who was a working student up to the Academy where he remembered having no new pants and shoes that time of the audition.

By now, he could provide a better life to his family with more and more sponsors and companies to augment whatever he makes currently. Not just some parlor, beauty or just any dental discounts but hopefully, more advertisements in the future.

I still remember when Michael Jackson had his concert in Manila in 1996. It was very popular then and people really spent just to see this concert. With all the controversy then, the concert was was successful although there were rumors coming out that the organizers of the concert didn’t make money out of it. But many believed during that time that it was allegedly a propaganda to avoid tax payments.

It was a very successful concert where lots of fans went out to see the King of Pop. Some even carried outdoor pillows to comfort those who stayed in an open field in Paranaque City.

sale advertisement when I saw Boys II Men on TV. Time flies really fast and it’s really different now how they looked like today compared to before. They became mature and physically weighty but what matters most is that they were able to maintain their beautiful voices.
The same Boys II Men will have a series of concerts in the Philippines. It would be great to see them in person.

The other day while on our grocery I saw Sherrie, a local sexy singer who happened to give birth a couple of months ago and I noticed that she is still slim and sexy. I figured she must have found best diet pills if she is likely to be taking them. But I know she also does exercises and other means. Imagine J. We Are the World – How It Started

I was still a little girl during the time when “We are the world” song was released. The initial intention was to raise funds to help famine-relief efforts in Ethiopia which had experienced unusual drought and political instability in 1984 and 1985. This song raised over US$63 million during that time.

The song is written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. It was produced and conducted by Quincy Jones and recorded by a group of 45 popular musicians, singers and other celebrities.

Imagine the recording of this song happened that night after the American Music Award at the A&M Studios in Hollywood, California. The artist arrived looking exactly like they were during the Awards night from limousines, shining car grills one by one arriving in a studio. And the rest is history.

Farrah Fawcett: One Less Angel

Apart from Michael Jackson, I am also sad about the passing away of Farrah Fawcett. Looking back as a kid, our household was a regular viewer of the original cast of Charlie’s Angels. Charlie’s Angels were the standard of beauty back in the 70s.

The other members were Jacklyn Smith and Kate Jackson. There was a time that it was difficult for us to accept that Farrah had to be replaced by Cheryl Ladd. She’s such a darling to many people and I am sure she will be sorely missed.

My husband and I were talking about having PS3 price canvassing since he wanted to have a PS3 instead as video player if we wanted to buy a DVD or blueray player. Suddenly, he saw on TV the news about the death of the King of Pop Music.

The world was really shocked about the reported heart attack and death of Michael Jackson after a coma since it was only a few days prior to his up coming concert in London. Although the autopsy report is not yet published, people are still in doubt on what the reason really is for his death. Hopefully this autopsy will be released soon and will answer millions of fans.
