Why not go large and start your own publishing company?

To start your own company doesn't cost a lot of money and the profits can be high. You don't need to buy anything expensive like self publishing software or premises, so the costs are low.

As a self publisher with your own company you can write and publish all your books for years to come and keep all the profits instead of the miserly 8-10% that other authors receive.

And using Print On Demand means you don't need to do any large expensive print runs. In fact you don't need to do any print runs at all because your books can be printed as ordered (On Demand) whenever a book store or customer places an order.

You can also use the internet to promote your book for free through web sites, blogs, free classifieds, forums ezines and interviews. And the best thing about using the internet for book promotion means your marketing will be global.

And if you wanted to, you could use your publishing company to publish other author's books too.

And with books, you don't just earn money once. You'll receive money again and again from the same book.

So once you know how easy it is to publish your books, you can become the CEO of your own profitable publishing company.

Ruth Barringham is succesful writer, author and publisher and runs two web sites for writers. Writeaholics.net is a web site for freelance writers and Self-Publish Worldwide is a website full of information on all areas of self publishing. So if your interested in writing or publishing, or both, visit these two web sites. You can also sign up for the free monthly newsletter at Writeaholics.net and receive the free eBook 'Become a Freelance Writing Success' when you subscribe, or download a free self publishing report at Self-Publish Worldwide. Or why not do both? After all - they're free!

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

The 7 Easy Steps to Becoming a Public Speaking Failure

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by

Learning to speak in public with confidence is a surefire way of boosting your overall self-esteem. Doing so gives you a real challenge and, because it is actually really easy to achieve, can give you a huge sense of satisfaction and achievement.

When I had finished my education and started out in the world of work I was a quiet and somewhat shy individual. But eventually I realized that if I wanted to progress in the company in the sales and business development roles I desired, I would need to change. So I volunteered to attend a training course on presentation skills and the transformation started there and then!

You too can develop as a person by learning the techniques for becoming an accomplished speech maker. But beware because in all endeavors there is the right way and, of course, the wrong way! And here are seven ways to ensure you fail as a public speaker:

#1 Don't Prepare

It is vital that you spend time planning a speech, gathering information for it, preparing it, and rehearsing thoroughly. If you fail to plan your talk then it is simply going to bomb!

#2 Don't Know Your Topic

There are many people who, when making a speech, will simply read from a script, sometimes using other people's material. To them the subject is irrelevant, but that will soon come across to their audience too! It is essential that you speak about a topic you know about, are genuinely interested in, and can enthuse about, if you actually want anyone to listen.

#3 Don't Have Structure

A good speech should flow like a good book. It should have an effective opening, a main body with a number of points which move logically forwards, and an ending that will be remembered. You need to be able to carry your audience effortlessly along with you.

#4 Don't Grab the Attention of Your Audience

At the beginning of your speech you must make your audience sit up and listen. Use a startling fact, a pertinent question, or a challenging quotation - whatever it takes to get them on board.

#5 Don't Look Good

It won't matter how good your talk is if you don't pay attention to your appearance. Make sure you look clean and tidy and dress appropriately for the occasion. And don't stand with your hands in your pockets, or keep hopping from foot to foot. Your audience will soon be put off.

#6 Don't Sound Good

It is vital that when you rehearse you pay attention to how you sound. There's nothing worse than a dull monotone voice, so put expression into your speech. Remember that nerves can make you talk more quickly and affect your breathing. So control your breathing, try some exercises, and don't be afraid to build pauses into your talk.

#7 Don't Leave Your Audience with Something Memorable

No matter how good your subject matter, if you don't ensure your audience remembers it you will have failed. So end with a challenge or a call to action so that they have to act on what they've just heard.

Learning to speak in public is just one way of challenging yourself and developing a new and worthwhile skill. But I recommend it as it helped transform me from a quiet and unsure young man into a confident and successful business manager. So why not take action today and start your own journey to success.

This article was written by Tony Hall who runs his own business providing individuals with personal and business skills development. If a student client puts in an order, the essay firm should then be professional enough to protect the client's personal information from leaking out to the public. The same needs to be said regarding the finished custom essay. As the client has paid to own the material, the fair practice is for the essay service to never publish the article in any site, and equally important, to never resell it to another client.

R - Research is impeccable
Part of a great composition stems from impeccable and meticulous researching. With useful and up-to-date sources as references, the material is sure to sound credible and convincing. Aside from that, it gives off a positive impression that the writer was dedicated enough to uncover constructive resources for the essay material.

E - Experts as Writers
A great custom essay service hires only highly skilled professionals as the firm's writers and researchers. Relatively, the rule also dictates that every material assigned to a writer has to correspond with the specific specialization of same writer. This is to ensure that the content will be expertly written by someone who knows exactly the ins and outs of the chosen theme.

A - Absolutely Authentic
A great composition site dictates authenticity. This simply means original content. With these customized essays, there is no resorting to plagiarism, only the honest citing of relevant sources that aided the writer in the article composition.

T - True Quality
The material needs to be infused with quality content. This pertains to the exquisite blend of the creative and analytic thoughts of the writer. More than the insightful ideas, a first-rate material also demands quality writing. As it is, the essay needs to be authored in such a coherent and organized manner, which will then play up all the key points and hard-earned research of the writer.

Great Custom Essays Are Out There.
Whereas the above statement is true, the same can be said for substandard customized essays littering the web nowadays. Therefore, students are forewarned to be wise in choosing their custom essay sites. The GREAT traits have been explained here; now it's up to the students to interview and assess online sites if it could indeed deliver great works.

PAUL Byrne is a 35-year-old post-graduate student of creative writing at a premier university in Dublin, Ireland. The tradition was also that he paid for the reception too, though this cost os often shared around today. In keeping with that custom, the bride's father is often expected to host the wedding reception.

For some weddings a professional master of ceremonies is engaged, especially for society weddings. At many weddings the bride's father is will give an opening speech and propose the toast to the newly married couple at the start of the wedding reception, and continue to act as MC for the following proceedings.

There are five essential steps to a father of the bride speech.

The first item is to say some welcoming words to set the atmosphere and create a celebratory mood for a memorable wedding reception. The primary goal is to help the guests to relax. A good way to achieve this is to discuss the wedding ceremony, how beautiful the bride looks, the location chosen for the reception or even the weather -- things that all the guests will have an opinion about -- and how much you are excited about meeting everyone and sharing the reception with them.

Secondly, as the host, the bride's father offers a welcome to all of the guests. It is usual to introduce any special guests, especially the groom's family and those who have made a special effort to get to the wedding. Absent guests are often mentioned at this stage also, especially those with close links with the bride or groom who have been unable to get to the wedding. A much loved grandparent or favorite aunt who has recently passed away is often mentioned at this point.

The third stage of the speech is to create some excitement about what to expect during the reception. The highlight of the best man's speech and any entertainment planned for during the reception, and plans for events afterwards, might be mentioned. Your guests will relax more when they know what is about to happen.

As a fourth step in their wedding speech, most proud fathers want to say a few heartfelt words among friends and family about the bride, their daughter. Finding the right words to say is often the most difficult part of the speech to prepare for fathers. There is not just one way to express your love for your daughter. Telling stories, possibly funny stories, about your daughter meeting the groom and quoting poetry are popular approaches, among many others.

Finally, to place the attention of the wedding reception firmly on the newlywed couple it is usual for the bride's father to call for guests to join him in a toast to the bride and groom. Choosing the right words for the toast is an important step in preparing the speech.

Every father of the bride will add his own style of presentation, humor and feelings into his speech around this or a similar simple five step speech framework.

Few fathers will have much experience speaking at their own daughter's wedding. Most will find a professionally prepared wedding speech guide is very helpful. Public speaking is a great skill to learn for a number of reasons. It makes you a better communicator, it will help you in your personal and financial life and finally only a small amount of people have them.

Take about something you love: I wish there was a way that you could speak about anything, but if you really want to be a great speaker, than you should speak about something you love. The reason is quite simple; that love inside of you will come out in the speech. Typically the emotion you feel, will be felt by the audience. If you can make the audience feel love for what you're talking about, they will love you and want to hear more.

Tell Stories: There is a huge difference in communication when it comes to talking and story telling. Which one do you think builds more rapport? That's right, the story. Our ability to tell a story is an excellent tool to get your point across and do it with a feeling attached with it. If it is a sad story, a sad feeling will be attached to it. If it is an exciting story, an exciting feeling will be attached to it. There is also another affect. When you tell a story, you're giving the audience a little piece of yourself. They get a glimpse of who you are. This makes you much easier to identify with.

Becoming a charismatic and moving speaker is in the grasp of all people. If you're looking to learn to transform yourself from an ordinary speaker to extraordinary speaker, check out Public Speaking Ebooks.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

Use Amazon.com to Market Your Books

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Cynthia Morse, CAP

As an author, you probably know how important it is to get your books out to the buying public. Amazon.com is a great tool that should not be overlooked. Here are some of the key features you can use to help market your books.

Get Listed
First and foremost, get your book titles listed on the site. There are basically two methods for listing your books:

1) Amazon.com Advantage – for new titles
2) Pro-Merchant Program – for used, collectible, and remainder books

Add Content
Once your book is listed, you can add descriptive content. Add things like a short description, author bio, inside flap or back cover copy, reviews, or an excerpt of the first chapter.

Search Inside
This feature will allow customers to view actual pages inside your book, such as the table of contents and index. This will "tease" customers into wanting more, and ultimately will help you to sell more books.

Add Reviews
For increased sales and visibility, ask friends and others to review your book on Amazon.com. If you give away copies of your book, ask the person to post a review if they had a positive reading experience.

Amazon Advantage
For a $29.95 annual fee, you can receive additional services to help market your book. Advantages include:

Your book is listed as "ships in 24 hours"

CDs, DVDs and other products can be sold

Your book can be listed here before being released, and pre-orders can be taken

Book returns are zero to minimal

Amazon Connect
This is a new program that allows you to post messages directly to your readers. The posted messages will appear on your book detail page(s), profile page and blog. In addition, you can create your own profile page.

Amazon Upgrade
Anyone who purchases a hard copy of your book will be allowed to receive a digital copy of the book for an extra fee.

Amazon Shorts
Another promotional tool available to you as an author, this program sells access to short format stories for just $0.49. For less than a cup of coffee, a reader can download a story of 2,000-10,000 words. The downloads can be saved in HTML, PDF or plain text formats to be read over and over.

Kindle
You can make your book available in digital format, to be used with Kindle, a new wireless reading device.

As you can see, there are several ways you can use Amazon.com to your advantage to market your books. For the most part, you do not even have to pay a dime. What better deal is there than that for the exposure you'll gain?

Cynthia Morse, CAP is a Virtual Assistant, and the owner of Virtually At Your Service, http://www.virtuallyatyourservice.biz. Just sign up, put in the keyword that relates to your product/service and you'll receive sometimes daily e-mails on what's happening. This is great for writing articles that are current and up to date.

Amazon.com: I know I've talked about Amazon before but as a research and article idea tool you'll find nothing better. Look for what's in the top 10 list, that's what people are looking for (that's why it in the top 10). For added research use the "search inside" feature and have a look at the table of contents for even more article ideas.

Just as a side note pay attention to the headlines on the books in the top 10. This can give you some ideas of what slang or phrases (people in your niche use) that may add extra pulling power to your articles.

Ezinearticles.com: The biggest article directory online is packed full of great article ideas. Take a look at the most popular articles in your niche. This should give an idea of what your target audience is looking for.

Local Newsagent: Look for magazines that are related to your niche and see what their writers are talking about.

Sales letters: Visit clickbank.com and find a product related to your business. Preferably choose one in the top 5 as these are the highest converting ones. Then take a look at what your chosen sales letter talks about. You may find an article idea in a bullet point or some text that springs out at you.

Google keyword suggestion tool: Visit www.adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and do a search for keywords that your target audience in typing into the search engines. If you're not sure what to keywords to look for, check the "Website content" radio button and put a website that is closely related to your business in the box. In a few seconds the keyword tool will give you keywords that are related to that site. The idea of using this tool is that it gives you the ideas of what your target audience is actually looking for. It just a matter then of simply just giving them what they want.

Questions And Answers: This is a very simple idea to use. Just simply make up a list of things your target audience frequently asks and put together an article where you answer them all. Don't get carried away though, just put together the top 5 or so questions. The best thing about this, is that by you answering the questions it shows that you know what you're talking about and helps make you look even more of an expert in your field.

Finally,

Don't dwell too much on pushing yourself for an idea, relax and they'll come to you. For example I was actually stuck for an idea on what to write an article about today, and low and behold the idea of writing an article on how to get "article ideas" came into my mind to write about.

Start making a name for yourself online today, visit www.ItWasSoEasy.com and give us your articles. We'll do our best to get as much FREE traffic to your site as possible and start building that name of yours... Its what we're here for!

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

8 Ways to Sell Your Book

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Bookcoach

There are many ways to sell your book. Be creative and think of unique ways to sell your book in your community and online. It is important that you feel comfortable talking to others and asking people to buy your book. Take a sales course to get you going. Eight ways to sell your book are listed below. Choose one of them and get everything set up so that by the time your book is published you are ready to sell your book.

1. Get listed in online bookstores. Barnes and Noble and Amazon are two you can list on if your book has an ISBN number. Find online services that specialize in your type of book such as, religious, self-help, personal success, business, etc.

2. Your Website. If you already have a Website then set up a page for your new book and promote your book on it. You need to develop words or phrases that you feel someone will enter into a search engine to find a book like yours. The Internet is the most powerful and inexpensive way to sell anything if you know how to do it. However, you are competing with millions of Websites out there who want to do business. If you are not familiar with the importance of knowing how to attract people to your site (traffic) and how to do keyword search and use it, then hire a keyword expert to do this for you. It is worth the money to have it done right the first time.

3. "Pay-per-click" advertising. With pay-per-click, the advertiser only pays if someone actually visits your website. You buy keywords that you think your type of reader would search for. You don't want to buy the most popular keywords because it's too expensive. Test different words or phrases that your prospect would search and only buy ones that are reasonable. Keywords can cost $1.00 per click—that is too much. You need to keep your keyword under 25 cents. Be careful with this. Sign up only if you know what you are doing. Get an expert to help you with this. Check out the local colleges. There just might be a student out there waiting to help you.

4. Book signing events. Find some independent bookstores in your community as they can give you more attention than a big box bookstore. Also find big events that offer exhibit space. Share the cost with another small business where you each use half of the table top. Create an attention getting display for your book. Use flowers, bright colors, banners, etc. Be proactive and invite visitors to your table to sign books. Ask them an open-ended question to get them involved in interacting with you. For example, as a book coach I could ask, "What is more important to you – attracting more clients or getting recognized as an Expert?" A good conversation could begin once I know the answer to my question.

5. Sell to libraries. Send a mailing to the libraries to order your book. Most libraries buy books that are on the review list of Publishers Weekly, the Booklist, or the Library Journal. Your book must have created a lot of buzz for libraries to take an interest in it. You can sell a lot of books to libraries if your book is a good one.

6. Sell to book clubs. Don't forget to promote your book--include some reviews--to book clubs.

7. Sell your books to corporations as gifts. Phone the corporate executives you know and ask them if they would be interested in buying books for management and key people in their company. You will have all of them personally autographed for them. Check with your publisher to find out how many copies does a corporation need to buy to get a discount. If they are interested send them a copy of the book with a personal letter.

8. Sell your books to corporations with company imprints. Invite companies to buy large volumes with the company imprint. They can give them out at company annual meetings, parties, etc. Check with your printer and ask what the minimum volume is to print with a company imprint.

Close The Sale. Once you have a potential book buyer ask the right questions to get him or her to buy the book. You can't be shy. If you can't get rid of your introverted style then ask a dynamic friend who you feel could sell anything to help you. Award your friend with a Starbucks or American Express card for a selected dollar amount to give them as a gift of appreciation.

Once you've attracted a prospect, once you've explained the book, shared the benefits, it's time to close the sale. Assume they want the book and ask something like, "Shall I dedicate this book to you, or to a friend?" Or, "If you buy one for a friend I can ship it for you." For business owners you can ask, "Would you like to give some of these autographed books as gifts to your employees?" Always be enthusiastic and have fun promoting and selling your book. Be persistent and keep on planning ways to sell your book. You are on your way to a best seller.

Copyright 2008, Joan Clout-Kruse. It is crafted and written in such a way that the reader feels compelled to click on the link or the order button to learn more about what you are offering or selling. If your call to action phrases are not compelling enough to do this then you won't have potential customers visiting your sites and puchasing your products, whether they are your own sites and products or affiliates sites and products.

The purpose of using persuasive call to action phrases in article marketing is to drive traffic to your web sites. You want to get as many hits to your site as you can and the more hits you get the better your chances of making a sale. Without visits to your site you will not sell anything. This is a simple numbers game. To make consistent and daily sales you need to drive consistent and daily traffic to your sites, in high numbers. In order to do this you have to write and submit a lot of articles to high ranking article directories and you have to write convincing call to action phrases that will get your readers to visit your site. Once they visit the site your call to action phrases have to be compelling enough to make them purchase from you.

There are several styles that are used to write call to action phrases. The words you use can make or break your success rate in getting visits to your sites. People want to feel excited about what they are about to do. Your prompt for them to visit your site has to be great. If not they have many other choices they can turn too. Don't be afraid to experiment with different words and combinations of phrases. Be creative! What words would stimulate you to respond?

Read the following two action phrases:

1. Click here now to learn how to make money on the internet. 2. Do you need more money? Discover three simple to apply techniques that can generate cash for you each and every day by visiting here now!

Does one of these phrases cause a greater reaction than the other when you read them? Which one do you find more persuasive?
Would you be more compelled to click on one over the other?

The first phrase is simple and to the point and BORING! The word learn denotes that the reader has to do some extra work if they go to your site. They have to "learn" something. The second phrase starts with a question about the reader's possible needs. It is trying to strike an emotional cord with the reader. If the reader does need to make more money then this question will draw them in further. Using the word discover instead of learn takes the burden off of the reader. They won't have to "learn" anything. We are going to simply tell them what they need to know. Instead of saying click here now which is somewhat generic and cold we used the word visit. This is much more inviting like asking someone into your home.

Don't underestimate the power of the words that you choose. They can make all the difference in the emotional reaction they will generate in your readers and determine how much traffic you'll drive to your website.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

What Makes a Good Public Speaker

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Ronald Myers

I'm going to share with you what makes a good public speaker. There are many people that get up front of audiences from the richest CEOs to the classroom teacher. There are definitely characteristics that make each stand out or not.

Passion (or at least showing it): Passion is like laughter, it's contagious. Having someone in front of an audience giving a speech in a monotone voice isn't going to really engage people. It's the people that have passion. The audience can feel this passion in the diction, the tonality, the body language of the speaker. Are these speakers genuinely passionate about the topic they're talking about? Maybe, maybe not. The point is that they can make it look passionate. They make it look like they care about the topic.

Element of Fun: Being able to add an element of fun can really make all the difference. The more emotional levels a speech hits the audience, more rapport is built. It's really an amazing thing. If you shock them, if you make them laugh, if you make it fun, you will be able to powerfully persuade them. The element of fun, doesn't mean a joke. Fun is engaging the audience differently. I leave that for you to figure out because it is really dependent on your audience.

Use Visuals: This is a great way to impact the audience with more than just what you say. This could be a power point presentation on a screen or it could be as simple as an object in your hands. You can use something visual to really push a point across. I remember my high school physics teacher used a computer chair and a spinning tire to illustrate centripetal acceleration. On a chalk board, it isn't that great, but watching someone spin around on a chair is fun.

Becoming a charismatic and moving speaker is in the grasp of all people. To express yourself means that you give yourself permission to share your inner reality with the outside world of others. Ex-press means to press out, to reveal your inner thoughts and feelings so that others see you for who you really are. The value of self-expression is empowerment, confidence and creation of what you want.

Creating or getting what you want is my theme here. Using the power of self-expression, you can get what you want most of the time. Oddly enough, your negative emotions are often the key to unleashing an unfettered ability to receive all you could ever want in your life. You can use your negative emotions to work for your benefit if you understand that they are part of a natural process of transformation.

The purpose of emotion is to tell you what is right and wrong in your life. Positive emotions tell you to move towards whatever and whoever causes the good feelings. Negative emotion is a clue that something is not good for you and needs to be changed. A strong negative emotion is an inner signal that you need to evaluate what is happening that you don't want.

It is easy to get stuck in the negative feeling and focus only on what is happening that you don't like. You play it over and over in your head reinforcing the negative situation. In so doing, you miss the gift of the negative state.

The negative emotion is only the first step of a three-step process of transformation for the good. There is an important second step to take in using your negative emotion for your benefit. This second step is to identify what you do want. In a few short minutes you can pop out of the negativity by clarifying what you want to be happening.

The empowering third step is to express what you want to the appropriate person(s). Simply ask for what you do want. Be careful to focus your request on what you do want rather than what you don't want. Most of the time, the person will give it to you. Oddly it is the last thing we think of when we are stuck in negativity. But it is the easiest thing to do. Once you get in the habit of asking for what you want, the results are like magic in your life!

OK, I know this is simplistic. But, sometimes simple is best.

When I was first working with this approach to managing my emotional intensity, I had so much feeling that my requests sounded angry and did not get the best results. That may happen to you during your learning curve. That's OK, you are learning. With a little practice, it becomes easy to ask in a neutral tone. That makes it easy for others to give you what you want. The more you get what you want, the easier it gets to ask for what you want. The more you ask, the more you receive. And here's the cool thing. Once you are getting most of what you want, it becomes very easy to let go of the things that you can't get!

So, next time you find yourself stuck in negative feelings, stop and ask yourself "Just what is it that I want?" Then ask the right person for it. Stand back, because you are very apt to get it…most of the time.

Sandra Zimmer is the Director and Founder of The Self-Expression Center. Think of it as writing a speech… possibly the most important speech that you have ever written. Even so, it does not have to be looked upon as a daunting task.

The majority of those who are asked to write a eulogy have a great deal of knowledge about the people they will be honoring. (Usually it is a family member or close friend who is asked to deliver it.)

Because of this, there is typically little research that needs to be done. Many times biographical information such as names and dates are the only things that must be verified. The rest of the eulogy can be based on wonderful memories and personal experiences, shared with the deceased.

In the event that you are asked to deliver a eulogy for a person, whom you don't know well, the first thing you should do is speak with friends and family members, if possible. They should be able to supply you with information and their own personal experiences, suitable for a eulogy.

Eulogies are not necessarily meant to be a chronological history of a person's life. Although, in some cases that's how they are written. Eulogies are meant to convey the reasons the deceased will be missed and how much he was loved.

Writing a eulogy should not be taken lightly. It is not something that can be written quickly. Some people actually find it easier to stick to a theme, during the writing process, making it a bit easier for the words to flow.

If you attended school with the deceased, you might want to focus on your school days.
If you are a family member you might want to talk about his childhood. If you are a coworker, you can focus on work-related memories and humorous anecdotes.

It is, in fact, acceptable to include humorous moments in a eulogy. While it's probably not wise to crack jokes, a little humor will help to lift the spirits of those attending the services.

Funeral services are meant to celebrate the lives of lost love ones. Humor is an appropriate way to celebrate life.

Keep in mind, when writing a eulogy, this type of speech should last anywhere from four to ten minutes. However, don't worry if it runs just a bit longer. No one will be timing you, with a stopwatch.

Even though death is a sad event, eulogies should always be written in an uplifting and inspiring manner. Again remember, the service and eulogy is held to honor the deceased and celebrate life. It is a wonderful idea to include any major achievements that occurred during the person's lifetime.

It is important that you avoid any statements or references that portray the deceased in a negative manner. You can include poems, quotations or passages from the Bible, when appropriate.

There are many facets to planning a funeral. Writing the eulogy is just one of them. It should be written and delivered from the heart.

John Andersen with us-flag-display-cases.com, US leading Flag Display Cases provider company. Also what is the role of editor-in-chief in a magazine and the working hierarchy in a magazine... who reports to whom? Also how much should the editor-in-chief allow the owners/publishers/directors of the media company to interfere in the editorial content? These are just some of the questions that is normally asked about the inner workings of a magazine.

First, I'm not sure what you mean by "working protocol of journalism." Are you talking about relationships with sources, between editors and reporters, or something else? In the context of your other questions, I wonder if you mean something to do with editorial authority, too.

Second,Various journalism roles can vary quite a bit, actually, from publication to publication. Some companies have more "hands-on" management styles, while others give their executives more autonomy. But, in general, the editor-in-chief has control over the publication's editorial contents and direction, just as the advertising director has control over the ad contents, placement, and policies.

That doesn't mean the editor is God, because he/she shares power with other high-ranking executives. The editor's greatest management skill is in working effectively with people -- knowing how to negotiate with other power brokers who have a say in how the magazine is put together, distributed, etc.

I'll give you an example of hierarchy: In the trade magazine publishing company where I worked, there was an individual editor over each magazine. We shared a pool of in-house writers, and we each contracted separately with freelancers as needed. There also was an advertising director who managed the ad sales and placement for each of the three magazines. If I didn't like the ad placement in my magazine, I could go to her and negotiate; she was usually agreeable within reason.

(Of course, we usually prevented negotiations by talking in advance about special features that would need special space, and she was conversant with our standard placement of recurring features, etc.) We also worked with execs at various support companies -- R.R.

Donnelley printing in Senatobia, Miss., which required us to meet certain format standards with what we submitted and to adhere to agreed-upon timetables; and the company that wrapped, labeled, and mailed our magazines, which required clear directives, correct mailing label files, and adherence to agreed-upon timetables. We also worked with the business office in our publishing company to communicate clearly about incoming bills from freelancers (then signing off on them) and other issues.

In other words, the hierarchy is broader, and less linear, than I thought it would be from my studies in journalism. The real world is much, much, much more "cooperative" than it is territory based. And, sadly for editors, the power tends to reside where the money is (hint: Not in the editorial offices). Often, the ad director swings a bigger stick than you will as an editor. Make close friends with the ad director -- do favors when you can. You'll need to call those favors in at some point. Make sure you develop a relationship as allies rather than as adversaries.

Last, The editor-in-chief has limited options in how much he lets the magazine's owners, publishers, and other higher-ups interfere with the editorial content. He should establish the extent of his authority when he is hired and, if possible, have it spelled out in writing. Clear upfront communications are the best preventative step. He can help prevent problems by communicating clearly with his bosses about editorial directions and getting buy-in as he goes along rather than waiting for issues to arise.

If issues are raised later on, the editor's best tool is to be persuasive to his bosses and help them understand why his editorial judgment should prevail. However, when push comes to shove, the editor's choices are limited: Stay and bow to his boss's wishes, violate his boss's wishes and take the consequences, or quit. If he has an employment contract that has been violated, he may consider suing, but that would be rare. Often, compromise (within the limits of your personal ethics) is the best option.

Victor Epand is an expert consultant at http://www.4Magazines.info/. 4Magazines.info offers the greatest magazine subscriptions from a variety of top publishers. You can also develop your voice as an instrument for opening to greater aliveness.

It has been said that if you change your voice, you will change your life. You change not only how people perceive and respond to you. But, you also change your level of openness and aliveness. Your voice is an energy generating instrument. It creates vibration which is life-force energy. The more you develop your voice, the more you access the power that is within all of us. Changing your voice can literally open you to greater flow of life-force energy that makes you feel alive and powerful. This is why every meditation system uses some form of intoning, chanting or singing. It opens you up.

The sound of your voice can repel or draw people to you. It can make people want to listen or tune you out. It can excite, energize and inspire or it can dull people's senses. Your voice is connected to your psyche. Your voice is a physical instrument that reflects your psycho-physical state. It's a reflection of your current emotional state and your overall openness to life.

I teach the Lessac Voice System. Lessac Voice is a method created by Arthur Lessac to teach people how to have great voices. Arthur's method is taught in theatre schools all across America. I was trained and certified personally by Arthur Lessac in 1975 and have been teaching this wonderful vocal method since then.

There are 3 technical aspects of a great voice – Diction, Vocal Tone and Proper Pronunciation of vowels. In addition, to vocal technique, emotional color can help make your voice compelling.

Diction is articulation of consonant sounds. Consonants are the non-vowel sounds. Saying pro-ba-bly instead of pro-bly is an example of good diction. Diction makes speech clear, crisp and intelligible to others. By taking care to articulate consonants, you make yourself sound more intelligent and clear.

Vocal Tone is the resonance, pitch and beauty of the voice. Anyone can have a beautiful sounding voice. The secret is to resonate your vocal sound waves so they bounce off the bones in your head. With practice you can learn to place vocal vibrations onto the hard palate- the boney roof of your mouth. When your sound waves hit the roof of your mouth, they resonate in such a way that your voice sounds strong and projects to others. The sound waves then can be expanded into the bones of the sinus, nose and forehead so the whole front of your face is filled with vocal vibrations. Such "mask" resonance produces beautiful tone quality. Vocal tone that is resonated properly has a positive impact on other people. Others perceive you as direct and powerful. A further emotional impact on others occurs when you vibrate sound into your chest bones. By learning to bounce your vocal sound waves off of the bones in the chest, you are able to express the quality of speaking from your heart. Your voice reflects the quality of love and compassion.

Proper enunciation of vowel sounds is needed to have standard American pronunciation, such as broadcasters and actors use. Mis-pronunciation of vowels creates regional dialects and foreign accents. Because there are so many variations of vowel sounds in American English, it is a fairly long process to get rid of dialects and accents. To do so, you need to be prepared to spend some time changing how you speak your vowels. For some people, it is worth the time and effort to learn to speak with standard American pronunciation.

In addition to the Lessac System, I integrate awareness of emotional color into my voice training. Color and sound are both vibrational frequencies that are harmonics of each other. You can learn to produce sound qualities that carry emotional qualities. Red sound is strong, powerful and direct. Blue sound is kind, compassionate and nurturing. Yellow sound is joyful, enthusiastic and exciting. By changing the color of your voice, you can affect different feelings in yourself and different responses in others.

For the most part, people do not seem to know that they can transform the sound of their voices. The same technology that is available to actors, is available to you. You can change any or all of these aspects to your voice to develop the vocal quality that supports your success in life.

Sandra Zimmer is the Director and Founder of The Self-Expression Center.

It demands a lot of hard work and persistence to produce a quality composition. Every step in essay writing is crucial that's why essay writers often have a hard time finishing this complex and nerve- racking task.

Most writers encounter dilemmas in every stage of the entire essay writing process – from choosing a topic down to editing. Here are some common hindrances and easy solutions in creating top-rate essays.

•	Having an irrelevant or boring topic. It is a primary requirement in essay writing that the chosen subject to be discussed is exciting and relevant. Having a good topic to work on keeps the writing process enjoyable. Readers are also easily hooked with unique, thrilling and educating topics.

Solution: Read and observe. Check out for potential topics.

•	A weak thesis statement. Essays are written for the prime purpose of informing and persuading people. A thesis statement embodies the argument that the essay wants to prove. Having a weak and illogical argument makes the essay immaterial.

Solution: Don't use mere opinions and accepted facts as an argument rather, something
that is debatable.

•	An inefficient opening paragraph. A dull lead paragraph pushes the readers away. Too long starting paragraph also pisses the readers off. An enticing lead grabs the readers' eyes to finish the entire article.

Solution: Use powerful words but not too much superlatives. Make it concise.

•	Lack of interest or understanding of the topic. A writer can never create a masterpiece without having sufficient knowledge on the topic. It can be very difficult to write about something that is unfamiliar. This leads to haphazardly-written works.

Solution: Choose a topic that excites interest. Do quality research about the topic.

•	Poorly researched evidence. Having irrelevant evidences or arguments makes reading an essay a waste of time for the readers. Poorly researched evidences prove nothing.

Solution: Look for credible and up-to-date research materials.

•	Inability to use evidence properly. Evidence doesn't always equate to a quality essay. It depends on how the evidence is used. Inability to use relevant evidence makes the proof useless.

Solution: Select only evidences that suit the argument and write them in a logical manner.

•	Inconsistent position on a subject. Coherence is the key to an excellent essay. Inconsistency of arguments on the selected topic is quite confusing for the readers.

Solution: Stick to a single point all throughout the essay.

•	Having a vague and illogical structure. An unorganized structure results to inability of the essay to communicate the ideas clearly to its readers.

Solution: Create an outline to arrange the ideas.

•	Bad command of grammar and punctuation. Writing is governed by set of rules. Inaccurate grammar and punctuations destroy the credibility of the essay even if it is brilliantly conceptualized.

Solution: Proofread and allow others to edit the draft.

•	Incorrect reference of sources of information. Inappropriate attribution of the key sources also makes the essay less convincing. Citing the references gives the readers an assurance that the essay is thoroughly researched.

Solution: List all references properly.

Essay writing offers a lot of challenges for the writer. It is a complex yet rewarding task. The only issue is whether or not the writer is up to the challenge.

With an extravagant fondness for movies, Brian, a 26-year old copywriter, tirelessly searches for websites where he can share comments or check essays on every single film he sees.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

10 Basic Tips in Research Papers: Note Taking Basics

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by JonathanSmith

Writing research papers entails a critical attention to every detail. Sound academic pieces never undervalue this noteworthy part in the process of research – taking quality notes.

Note-taking is a complex step in research writing. It is not as easy as copying some notes in a blackboard. There are a lot of imperatives to consider:

1.Be concise. Even if taking notes for background, sharpen it down to short but succinct phrases. But do not rely too much on mental notes for it is not 100% reliable.

2.Have more than one key source. Having two or more relevant sources gives weight to the research paper. It is also a determinant of a thorough research skill.

3.Copy contradictory arguments. Having opposing argument that is easy to rebut by another counterpoint is an excellent rhetorical device.

4.Always paraphrase. This is to avoid plagiarism. It is also essential to write down the words in one's one word for it determines the writer's comprehension of the text.

5.Be cautious in attributing. In using many sources it is important to attribute properly for it gives the paper credibility.

6.Be systematic. Have a system in writing that really works. An orderly note-taking will help eventually in writing drafts and outlines.

7.Write legibly. Writing haphazardly results to incomprehensible notes. Hand-written notes must always be clear to prevent misreading.

8.Write only the relevant. Scan for the key words and phrases that are significant to the research paper. Don't just write everything down.

9.Use symbols and abbreviations. It is easier to take down notes if symbols and abbreviations are used. Just make sure that a legend is available so that the meanings of the symbols are also clear.

10.Review and edit the notes. After taking notes review and edit it. A single mistake like not being able to write the word "not" will totally distort the meaning of the text. Every single word in note-taking may affect the research paper.

With the painstaking effort in writing research papers it is really a must to know the nitty-gritty of taking down notes.

Research papers' main objective is to create a quality academic piece that is nonetheless supported with credible evidences. And the only thing to achieve this is through a scrupulous and persistent note-taking.

With great passion for writing, Jonathan Smith finds it fulfilling to do freelance writing although he already have a career in a marketing firm. He is currently working for a custom research paper company. This 26-year-old's enthusiasm in writing is deeply rooted in his parents, for his father was then a newspaper columnist and his mother a true-blooded novelist.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

Submit News with Video and Photo Attachments: MPG, AVI, BMP, GIF, JPG

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Andrew A Karasev

Writing and Posting Articles, Press Releases, Internet Blogs or Web Logs and News should be considered as important direction of your internet marketing, SEO, ecommerce and lead generation campaign. Include each keyword only once, you do not need to double keyword in your blog header

2.	Introduction Section. Here you may include more related keywords. Good idea to make intro section to look a bit intriguing or be to some extent paradoxical. Again – do not overburden it with your keywords, however feel free to include new combinations here

3.	Article Body. It is very nice when news main section paragraphs are enumerated or each new begins with bullet. Some editors and PR submission sites require additional space line between the paragraphs. Article main section may be stretched over one or even two pages and here it is good idea to include likely keywords exact phrases to secure your blog to show up in so-called deep or structured internet query, when internet google, yahoo or msn query contains more than five words

4.	Video and Photo attachments. If you'd like to compete with such sites as youtube, google images, google movie, then you should attach video or photo files: author or company logo in the form of GIF, BMP or JPG file and illustrative movie in MPG or AVI or photo illustration

5.	If you are new to press release writing, you should consider the strategy first to probe your author pen on new submission sites or media portals, where the criteria to the news quality are more democratic.

Andrew Karasev & Taisia Karaseva, Pegas Planet: http://www.pegasplanet.com subdivision of Alba Spectrum Group. Now you have the opportunity to expand their amusement and joy by sending them personalized letters on behalf of their favorite character, be it Santa Clause, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny or what ever character you can create. Writing character letters is a fun and enjoyable pastime which you can also turn into a profitable and pleasurable business venture.

Bring favorite characters to life by writing letters on behalf of them for children and make that special occasion a day to be remembered and treasured. Character letters can be sent on holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving as well as any other occasion such as birthdays, school holidays or Valentine's Day. If you are a creative person who is able to relate to children very well, then this might be just the home business opportunity you are looking for. In addition to the above qualities, a spell of imagination would ensure success with your letters.

You would have to present your services to parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles or any person who has a special child in their life. To make the letters more personal and convincing, ask your clients to provide details and fun facts about their child and incorporate these into the letters you create. For example mentioning about the child's favorite pet or best friend or color would add a more unique and delicate touch to your letters. Another way to originate more excitement for the child is to include enjoyable trinkets to your letters such as fun crafting projects, special holiday recipes, bookmarks, coloring projects or stickers.

As mentioned above there are a range of characters that you can represent. When starting off it is always better to select a few characters and expand as your business gets more established. Depending on the time and effort you have to commit, you should select your characters. You can select year round characters or holiday characters or even create your own special characters. The stationary and trinkets that you use should match up with the characters you have selected. A dependable computer and a color printer are the basic equipment required for your venture.

Advertising the services is an important process for any business to succeed. Word of mouth is the best way to spread the word regarding your business. Tell everyone you know and meet, about the service you provide. Handing out business cards and flyers is also a great way to spread information. Another good method is to publish press releases and articles. Furthermore having a website for your business would be useful since in addition to promoting your services, you can also display samples and obtain orders through it. Fixing the correct price for your letters is vital. Your fixed price should be able to cover all the costs you have endured as well as provide a satisfactory profit for you.

Being passionate and committed to your venture would ensure success in bringing characters to life through your special letters!

Bizymoms.com has been helping women start work at home businesses for over 10 years. It means knowing how to effectively use persuasive words aimed at a targeted market. It means knowing what your clientele base needs and composing your copy accordingly with passion and enthusiasm. In the modern world of today where everybody is always online, having a web content that is efficiently written spells the success of any online business. Regardless whether your webpage is aesthetically designed when its content is only attractive to three to four-year-olds, then you surely will not get the attention of your targeted market. Hence, we see the significance of effective copywriting. So what exactly does it take for a copy to be considered effective? Let's find out.

As with any kind of speech, talk, letter, epistle, the headline plays a very vital role. It is necessary that your headline immediately attracts your reader. A boring or a raw headline will not force any reader to continue and read the entire copy. The same things holds true for your content's introduction. Having been able to attract your reader through your headline, your introduction should likewise encourage your reader to read on. The introduction should be short and straight to the point.

One should also make it a point to make a good follow-through. This means that the body of your website content should be coherent not only with the introduction but with the entire copy. The use of subheadings will help one achieve this. Most readers will look for short copies instead of long ones. With subheadings, one is able to point out important points that need to be stressed. Subheadings make it easier for readers to grasp the idea of the whole content without having to read the entire copy.

Your choice of words will also be an important factor in this task. It should go without saying that using everyday language would be beneficial not only for the writer but also for the reader of the copy. This means that a wider clientele base will be reached with an easy-to-understand language than those techy ones that only scientists or geniuses can understand.

Another effective technique is the use of bullets. This method is normally used when explaining some procedure, instruction, and the like. Not only will this make the reader understand the copy easier, it is an efficient means of cutting your copy short.

Although your copy shouldn't be colorfully presented, your choice of font and font size is also a factor that will determine whether your readers will go through the copy or will not. Remember to use a simple one and to use a light background with a dark font. Doing the other way around is equivalent to an invisible content with nobody wanting to read it.

Finally, after having successfully attracted your customers to read through your content, make sure to have a powerful ending or conclusion. This will ensure you that your readers will remember what the entire article he has just read was all about. Stress out the most important point in your article. Play it out with the right choice of words and you assure yourself of customers who would want to go back to your site and read your content.

Irina provides useful services on Copywriting Services. We may not have submitted those essays to our teachers in school, but we've given those pieces of writing to our parents, siblings, children, and friends--in form of letters.

So why many people still find essay writing a "scary thing"—to the extent that they seek the help of an essay writer, writing service firms or buy essay just to have a fine one?

Why buy essay or avail the services of an essay writer and writing service firms, when you can do it on your own?

You just have to follow basic rules about essay writing, and here are some of them:

Start the process of essay writing by doing a research—this will help you to become an expert essay writer. Resources for writing an essay or essays abound: various Web sites over the Internet, academic-related databases as well as public libraries, you just have to use them. Jot down notes and widen your vocabulary--to improve your reading speed as well--when researching for an essay topic.

After doing a research, begin analyzing the lines of reasoning or arguments of all the essays that you are reading. Identify the claims, take down all the reasons as well as the evidence. The key to learning the ABCs of essay writing is being able to analyze essays penned by any essay writer.

Ask yourself questions and then answer them: Come up with brilliant ideas to write about in your essay or essays—brainstorm is the word. Then choose the best idea and identify it in such a way that you can really write an essay about it—it's difficult to write an essay without a clear thesis.

Outline your essay first before striking that pen. A skilled essay writer usually highlights points to explain what each of his paragraph will have.

Most readers look at the title of an essay first, then either read its entirety or make up their minds, and so it is essential to have a very powerful introduction—it should catch attention, set the mood of your writing and show the way to your thesis. A good essay writer can convey the message to readers as if he or she's in front of them.

A powerful essay introduction must also be accompanied by a strong conclusion. It can be a call to action, twist of logic or a quotation from a notable person. However, all quotations or borrowed ideas should be properly cited or given credit in some parts of your essay.

Lastly, don't forget to proofread your written essay or essays. Give importance to the small details—spelling, punctuations, grammar usage, etc. These little things determine an essay's strengths and weaknesses.

Writing an essay is as easy as inscribing your name on a piece—it doesn't have to be a grueling task nor involve so much trial and error.

For more information about this visit Research Paper

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

Writing a Press Release to Promote Your Website

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Jordan Matthews

If you've not before used a press release to market your business or products, then you're missing out on quite possibly one of the most potent marketing tools known to man.

Press releases is good because they bring a news slant to your promotional drive, and because people pay attention to interesting news items.

You should follow a similar writing approach for a press release which you utilize when writing an ad.

Those pointers are referred to as AIDA. AIDA is an acronym for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action. This is a tried and true method to the flow of promotional campaigns.

So, how important is this philosophy?

It is so important that you cannot compose a solid press release without it. If you simply remember the formula AIDA, then you can create excellent press releases whenever you wish.

Robert Watson is a professional freelance writer specializing in writing press releases. Possible? For famous people like presidents, prime ministers, spokespersons, media channel anchors very possible. But for local people who have never stepped on to a stage knees start to crumble and the voice chords seem to go on a strike.

The same is not with personalities that can talk at hours on length to hundreds and thousands of people staring at them. In fact they can deliver the speech so well that it shakes the ground beneath your feet. They hook you on to every word they speak and quivers can run down your spine when they say something true to your very being.

Speakers are present in every generation. History records Queen Elizabeth for all her defining speeches to her soldiers and subjects that led her to be the most powerful country in the world. This is what she said when she addressed the English army at Tilbury Fort – 1588 when Spanish invasion was imminent.

"Let tyrants fear; I have always so behaved myself that, under God, I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and good will of my subjects. And therefore I am come amongst you at this time, not as for my recreation or sport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live or die amongst you all; to lay down, for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honour and my blood, even the dust.

I know I have but the body of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart of a king, and of a king of England, too; and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realms: to which, rather than any dishonour should grow by me, I myself will take up arms; I myself will be your general, judge, and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field."

America has always had great speakers as presidents like John F. Kennedy. Here is an extract from one of his speeches, "My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own."

John F. Kennedy's words have been immortalized with his famous line, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. Which is still used to date in many variations. A powerful statement like that always makes the onlooker think for himself.

Even India has had stupendous speakers like P. Nehru, Indiara Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi and more. Gandhi is known to move not only a nation but the entire world with his philosophy. Here is an extract from his quit India speech, "I believe that in the history of the world, there has not been a more genuinely democratic struggle for freedom than ours. I read Carlyle's French Resolution while I was in prison, and Pandit Jawaharlal has told me something about the Russian revolution. But it is my conviction that in as much as these struggles were fought with the weapon of violence they failed to realize the democratic ideal. In the democracy which I have envisaged, a democracy established by non-violence, there will be equal freedom for all. Everybody will be his own master. It is to join a struggle for such democracy that I invite you today. Once you realize this you will forget the differences between the Hindus and Muslims, and think of yourselves as Indians only, engaged in the common struggle for independence."

If you wish to know the quotes by famous people or learn some funny sayings or graduation sayings visit our website.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.
