Rosenberry residence by Les architectes FABG

Rosenberry residence is a project designed by Les architectes FABG and is located on a large wooded lot near Sutton in the Eastern Townships region is conceived as a bi-generational family cottage for a financier now based in Asia and his parents still living in Montreal sharing it for family holidays in summer and winter.

Common areas, kitchen, dining room and living room occupy the ground floor open space as well as the private rooms of the parents on its west end.

The second floor is reserved for the son, contains a living room, guest rooms, a terrace and a bedroom offering unobstructed views of Mount Sutton.

The two wings are disposed at right angle to minimize noise transmission between floors for occupants living on a different daily rhythm and having to adapt to twelve hours of time zone separation.

The house, sitting on a podium with a swimming pool and a lawn terrace, is clad with black lacquered aluminium panels and white cedar accents. The hybrid structure is made of wood, steel and concrete floors with radiant heating while the glazing of the curtain wall and windows include a low-e coating.

Penthouse on the Park by KNOF design

KNOF design (based in London and founded by New York designer Susan Knof) has completed its first major commission: the remodelling of a spectacular 360° penthouse in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, uniting two separate apartments into a single 3,600 sq ft space. The new, one-storey penthouse features floor-to-ceiling glazing all the way round and offers its owners incredible panoramic views over the city and adjacent mountains with all the benefits of continuous natural light, from sunrise through to sunset.

‘Our clients – an international family of four – purchased the flats in a prominent high rise in the city’, commented Susan Knof, Creative Director and Founder of KNOF design, ‘and briefed us to combine the apartments to create a single, luxurious, bright and open environment, which would make the best use of the incoming light at different times of the day, but which would also allow them to control the degree of privacy they wanted at particular times or for particular spaces.’

The light-privacy balance in the penthouse was achieved by fitting soft voiles all the way around the 360° glazing, as well as black-out blinds, so that the owners have the choice of completely open living; light-filled but private living using the voiles or else blocking the light out completely – perfect for watching movies for example.

‘Making the most of the light throughout the day also meant the interiors scheme was predominantly created in natural and light colours’ added Susan Knof, ‘from the pale-wash of the timber flooring to the pure white of the kitchen. To ensure the apartment had personality accents, strong and punchy colour was also introduced, especially for the children’s bedrooms and playroom and the scheme’s stunning ensuites in purple and green mosaic.’

The Brief
The brief from the client was to merge two existing properties (an east and west apartment) to create a single, open living environment that allowed for an unobstructed kitchen, dining, living and entertaining space, where full advantage could be taken of the views, whilst also providing private areas for the master bedroom and children’s areas.

Nook Residence by MU Architecture

Located in a quiet area of the Eastern Townships in Quebec, the Nook Residence designed by MU Architecture sits in continuity with the landscape in which it is part. Turning its back to the street, it offers a virtually blind facade that encourages discovery and piques curiosity. Strategically located openings and a large gap in the white mass give a hint at the beautiful scenery below as we approach the building.

Inside, the clear sequence of open living spaces on the ground floor successively unveils different views of Lake Memphremagog to the visitor. Separating public from private spaces, a relaxation and contemplation area comes in as a pause in the architecture discovery course. Acting as lounge suspended over the void, this interior balcony between two levels accentuates our appreciation of the site in all its splender.

The steep terrain quickly dictated the first project constraints. The house clings to the steep terrain and seems to be projecting toward the Lake. Like an origami, the two volumes are linked by a dynamic bending ribbon that merges the roofs together. The created projections act as solar shading and protect a huge terrace facing south.

A white painted wood decay uniformly coats all sides and allows a more delicate integration of the building in its environment. Inside, the sobriety of the materials creates a canvas for a space that is both bright and warm. Polished concrete radiant floors, black ceramic tiles and walnut furniture punctuate the space with elegance. Cedar ceilings extend outside in continuity with the roof soffits outside, stretching sights to the Lake. Abundant windows erase the boundaries between inside and outside and a black staircase in the continuity with the upstairs railing leads to the bedrooms on lower level. Two large bedrooms, a bathroom and a dormitory with apparent board-formed concrete walls mainly compose the Ground level.

Acting as a landmark through the lush summer, the house changes with the seasons and its whiteness blends into the winter landscape as a tribute to the great Quebec winters.

Noe Residence by Studio VARA

A research scientist with an eye for detail approached Studio VARA with a modest vision and a couple of basic practical needs: First, transform a 1908 Noe Valley cottage– with a history of subpar alterations – into a cohesive modern dwelling. Second, provide an enclosed garage in a neighborhood with tough parking. The result is a quiet house of 3500 sq. ft. with two distinct faces; one that provides privacy from urban street traffic, and another that opens up to expansive Bay views.

Traces of the original cottage are preserved in the massing and circulation of the final building. The grand stair marks the separation between public spaces to the south and private spaces to the north. The new garage is incorporated into the “public” massing, with guest suites both above and below. To the north, the open living area at the heart of the home expands past the folding window wall to the east-facing deck beyond, where one can bask in the panoramic views of the City and East Bay, or contemplate the juxtaposition of urban and natural in the garden below. Above this main space is the master suite, which takes advantage of even grander views through both framed openings and a lofty private deck.

From inside to outside, the architectural/engineering team provided full-services every step of the way, from initial concepts to final completion in 2013: City planning, building permits, and all phases of design and construction oversight, including architecture, interiors, furnishings, landscape, and lighting. The team consistently worked toward creating a calm and peaceful retreat, with a balance of restraint and supple details sure to be appreciated by a client with a discerning eye. The project’s success lies in the judicious use of these carefully executed “moments” –natural wood screening at the master bedroom window which reinterprets an existing invasive tree; a wall of custom cabinetry that unifies the kitchen and living room, clad in veneer hand-picked by the client; the dance of metal and glass on the main stair guardrail; the subtle palette of “warm” mixed with “cool” that recurs in both tone and materials: wood juxtaposed with glass, metal against stone.

Maison Terrebonne by la SHED architecture

Maison Terrebonne is a project designed by la SHED architecture in 2014 and is located in Terrebonne, Québec, Canada.

Born from an extreme transformation of a typical 90’s bungalow, the “Maison Terrebonne” is located on a vast wooded plot of land. Although certainly contemporary, the new residence is built on the same foundations as the original house while preserving one of its principal characteristics; split levels. This principle is at the very heart of this building’s new architecture. This thorough building overhaul, in combination with a larger upstairs, was designed in order to meet the needs of a person living alone. Despite a small 1500 square foot living space, the residence offers vast open rooms with an abundance of natural lighting.

The house now features three split levels that are each designed for a distinct set of functions that help establish a clear hierarchy between intimate and communal zones. These zones are designed to be very open in relation to each other and are only divided by the threshold created by the flights of stairs. Directly accessible from the carport and at the same height as the ground outside is the first of three levels that contains both the entrance vestibule as well as a small office. Even though this entry zone is also open, it is concealed from the living spaces on the level above. Once in the center of the staircase leading to the second level, the visitor comes face to face with a large window with a view on the woods behind the home. The kitchen can be found there, organized around a large wooden island whose materials stand out in relation to the neutral white walls. Along the large bay window adjoining the kitchen can be found the dining and living rooms. At the crossroads of all these levels is located a pure white block that naturally reinforces the intimacy between zones and around which gravitates circulation within the home. This block has a powerful effect on the upper portion of each level as a result of it being unattached to the ceiling, which allows for both an unobstructed line of sight and opulent natural lighting.

The staircase and corridor leading to the owner’s private suite on the top level are located behind this central block and have a view on the inferior levels. Inside the cube and accessible only from the bedroom is a hidden bathroom designed with simple, clean lines. Though without a door, intimacy is preserved by the configuration of walls leading to the bathroom. Inside the bathroom, floor and walls are covered in a pearl white glass mosaic and it is modestly furnished with two white, minimalist blocks, bathtub and vanity. In order to accentuate the furniture’s monolithic appearance, doors with a smooth matte finish were placed on either side to avoid creating divisions at the front while a Corian sink was molded into the counter above. A thin setback kick space creates the impression that it isn’t attached to the floor while giving the bathroom a sense of space and lightness.

The bedroom is located at the very back and opens partially to the living spaces below. In order to limit visibility from the outside into this room, windows were voluntarily limited in height and therefore create long strips of light. At the rear, the room extends towards the woods by way of a loggia. From here the surrounding natural environment can be viewed without any obstacles thanks to the transparency of the glass railing barrier.

The exterior is covered in natural eastern cedar siding that will fade over time to eventually further bear a resemblance to the bark of trees in the surrounding woods. Simple openings surrounded by black frames serve to punctuate the sheer volume of the house. The former garage has been replaced with a covered parking space that’s open on either end, and thus gives the impression that it was emptied. This openness creates a sense of transparency that, like all large openings, provides the space for nature to reclaim its place.

Cozze Ristorante by Hersen Mendes Arquitetura

For the second consecutive time, the award-winning Hersen Mendes Arquitetura firm, with projects in Brazil and abroad, is participating in CASACOR Brasília, the largest architecture and decoration exhibition in Latin America. In this edition, architects and partners Anastácia Hersen and Matheus Mendes are responsible for Cozze Ristorante, a 250 m² space that explores, in a sensory and contemporary way, the intersection between architecture, art, and gastronomy. This year, the event takes place from August 13 to October 12, for the first time at Casa do Candango, a building that has been revitalized and updated to host the exhibition. In celebration of its 33rd anniversary, CASACOR Brasília 2025 has as its theme “Sowing Dreams,” an inspiration that echoes in the restaurant’s concept.
Cozze Ristorante represents, in essence, a space for pause, exchange, and nourishment, both physical and emotional. The environment provides fertile ground for encounters, memories, and affection, sowing dreams through shared experiences.
“As it is an Italian restaurant, we sought references in Italian culture and aesthetics. The textures and tones chosen evoke a contemporary interpretation of Italian tradition, transplanted to the urban context of Brasília,” explains architect Matheus Mendes.
The architectural design of the space explores the contrast between curved and angular shapes through planes and strips that define the flow and create different atmospheres. The curves shape the outdoor balcony and counter, resulting in an inviting and welcoming environment, designed to encourage visitors to linger and enjoy their meal.
“Each configuration was designed to offer pleasant experiences through geometry, color, and textures. Thus, the proposal stimulates a sensory experience, inviting visitors to move through fluid and expressive spaces,” adds architect Anastácia Hersen.
The sinuous volumetry of the project, combined with the use of natural and artificial stones, points to a contemporary language that balances materiality, organicity, and visual impact. One of the highlights is the integration with the nature of the location: the restaurant was designed to embrace an existing tree, respecting and valuing the original vegetation of the land.
Sustainability is also part of the project, which adopts conscious practices such as the use of MDF and LED lighting. Materials such as natural quartzite, Silestone, handmade Brazilian hydraulic tiles, rustic stones, porcelain tiles, and textured paints were combined to create striking contrasts and visual layers.
Among the original elements of the space are exclusive marble pieces, benches built on site, and four canvases created especially for the environment by artist Victoria Serednicki. Outside, a sculpture by Jadir Battaglia adds another touch of art to the space. The curatorship also includes natural adornments and objects developed by designers and artists from Brasília, Brazil, and around the world, reinforcing the connection with local creative production without losing sight of the global context.

Lower Penthouse in Florida by Jessica Jaegger

Designed by interior designer Jessica Jaegger, this lower penthouse on the 48th floor of The Ritz-Carlton Residences Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, combines sophistication, personal memories, and tropical references. Covering 465m² (approximately 5,006 sq ft) with five bedrooms and six bathrooms, the apartment was purchased by a technology entrepreneur and his wife, both from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as a family vacation retreat. From the start, the clients wanted a home that reflected their Brazilian roots, incorporating elements of modern tropical architecture such as palm trees, vibrant colors, and the relaxed atmosphere of a beach house. The connection with Jaegger was immediate, as the designer was also born in Rio de Janeiro and brought this cultural background as the guiding thread of the project, which was ready for execution when the unit, still in pre-construction, was delivered.

To bring the concept to life, Jaegger relied on natural materials and organic textures such as wood, stone, and fibers, adding warmth and authenticity to the spaces. Neutral surfaces were accented with pops of color, while bronze and brass details reinforced the elegance typical of her work.

The apartment underwent extensive renovations, including modifications to the master bathroom layout, the integration of a suspended Futuro Futuro range hood with display shelves, and the installation of a glass-enclosed wine cellar. The main challenge was installing 185 m² (approximately 1,992 sq ft) of white oak slatted panels on the ceiling, which required demolishing the original slabs and reinforcing the structure to ensure safety and durability.

The finishes consolidated a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere. Italian Santa Caterina travertine flooring created the perfect neutral base for the furniture, which includes pieces from renowned brands such as Brazilian ETEL and Italian Minotti. The owners’ art collection, featuring works by Manolo Valdés and Carlos Cruz-Diez, added even more identity and exclusivity to the space.

The result is a sky-high retreat that combines Brazilian inspiration with stunning views of southern Florida, translating the residents’ lifestyle into a sophisticated, welcoming, and highly personalized project.

Hybrid Interior by BXB studio

The Hybrid Interior of BXB Studio is both an open creative workshop and a private micro-apartment within a single residential unit.
The Warsaw headquarters of BXB Studio was established in a modest 70 m² unit, which was redesigned into an unusual hybrid functional layout – approximately 50 m² serves as the workspace, accessible to the BXB Studio team and our clients. The remaining 20 m² accommodates a designed micro-apartment within the premises.

The history of this project dates back to 2018, when Bogusław Barnaś, founder of BXB Studio, decided to carry out an unprecedented pre-COVID transformation of a traditional office into a studio operating remotely. At that time, we terminated the lease of our office on Krakowska Street in Kraków’s Old Town, which had accommodated a dozen-person team. In its place, a small unit in Kraków’s Zabłocie became the main meeting place and permanent working space for Bogusław Barnaś. We didn’t realize then that this bold decision would not only improve our quality of life but also significantly enhance the efficiency of our work – both creatively and economically. We gained a tremendous amount of free time thanks to the elimination of daily commuting and the ability to work from anywhere, which dramatically transformed our lifestyle.
A year later, it turned out that not only were we fully prepared for the pandemic, but also that other studios were beginning to adopt a fully remote model. We decided to expand our central headquarters in Kraków with a new location in the capital. New members joined our team, not only from Warsaw but also from other regions of the country. The distributed team proved to be another advantage, making it easier for us to implement projects scattered across various parts of Poland and the world.
