So what’s happening? well I’ve been giving away some domains, helping quite a few people get there business idea’s online and for me it’s start of something new.

I’ve spent 2 years developing domain monetisation systems some which have produced results far beyond my expectations.

This year has seen some pheonomenal growth in my friendships (customers) and work partners (Joint Venture Partners & Virtual Assistants, Server Admin’s and Marketing Consultants.)

So with this new found growth I’m looking to take a slightly different approach, that’s why my blog has suffered a lack of posts. I’m passionate about domaining it’s that the hype of the industry and the mass production of blogs, feeds, twitter, video all saying the same thing from the same people is getting a little tiresome. I believe it’s time domainers started to make some massive changes (myself included) to produce unique content and create an experience for our visitors that big corporations just can’t do.

A fine example of this is all the Patrick Swayze domains currently being snapped up by death grabbing greedy domainers who will turn his whole dealth into a billboard of advertisement for his movies on DVD and Blu-ray titles.

It’s a shame that a few domainers use this method to produce an income, as I’ve mention before there are 100′s of ways to monetise domain names without the need of profiting from a death of a popular figure such as Patrick Swayze.

So where to from here?

I’m looking to revamp my blog with fresh new *Original* content based on some of the products/services and projects I’m working on, I’m going to give you sneak peak to behind the scences and more how to articles to really show you how you can make some simple changes that will dramatically increase your results.

A good example is the recent flurry on Michael Jackson Domain Names recently registered (current 5,000+).

As a long term domainer I look at this quick cash grabs as just that, a few months of income then nothing.

Are you really passionate about Michael Jackson?

Can you compete with 5,000 other Michael Jackson domains?

I’ve been arguing with fellow domainers and internet entrepreneurs about finding a market/keyword that is trending upwards rather than a having a product then registering a domain.

Why?

Because without a market that’s growing what’s the point?

Sure once you hit a supply point where demand has bottom out and there is only two suppliers for a particular type of good or service ie Records or 56K Modems (remember them?) then the niche may be worth it as you’ve got a proven product but the demand is low and specialised or non existant.

56k Modem Search Trend

But.. for the most part you want growing search terms like blu-ray then find your sub niche like Blu-ray Horror movies and work your way up!

Blu-ray Search Trend

So how do you avoid being a “sheeple” domainer

The Great thing about land rushes to domain name whether it be new extensions like .asia coming online or trends in global media (like the death of Michael Jackson) the crowd will be focused on those particular domains whilst people like me are making a killing in TLD’s that some domainer names that just don’t come to mind unless you’ve got a problem that needs solving

So how to pick a Market?

First start something your passionate about it might be a particular type of flower, Book, movie, or hobby. Take a look what’s out there look at where the market growth is and what trending upwards.

Find a Market of Buyers or growing information trend (ie Blu-ray)

Do you keyword research (Hint check out Adwords keyword tool)

Register Your Domain Names (At lea

Focus on purchasing at least 3 domain names with high search keyword terms used the top 3 keywords the in adwords keyword tool

Which allow you to find people more easily ie http://www.facebook.com/mylesagnew

Now this is fantasic for me becuase there are only 3 other Myles Agnew’s on the planet so I had 33% chance of getting that name and to be honest the onther guy’s aren’t really interested in the internet so it was easy.

Then you have people that have the same name say “John Smith” for example imagine how many people with that name would have been trying to get it.

Then comes here comes the losers..

(You can’t have winners without losers it’s impossible!)

John Reese didn’t get his name http://www.facebook.com/johnreese Some wierd Facebook Profile did.

Jason Moffat didn’t get http://www.facebook.com/jasonmoffatt apparently Jake Smith beat him to the punch

Then Jason proceeded to winge and wine about his failure to register on his blog..

Actually Jason doesn’t own the domain facebook.com nor do they, (Facebook) they lease the right to it by paying a yearly subscription to a registrar.
First Vanity Name Transfer

(That I know of anyway)

Special mention to Chef Patrick who registered http://www.facebook.com/problogger and requested facebook to transfer it to fellow Aussie Darren Rowse of http://www.problogger.net fame.

Chef Patrick is true domainer and gentleman, and just by this action of make sure Darren was able to use the vanity is true display of Chef Patrick’s charactor and business ethics, some that alot of domainers are missing.

So there you go, Facebook vanity urls used and abuse by people what are your thoughts?

Last week facebook did a very cool people friendly thing by releasing vanity urls.

My profile has been jacked by some dickhead named Jake Smith. My buddy John Reese got his snatched too. Same with Frank Kern

*Note these are examples only.

In this post I refer to them as the “Ad provider”

What I hate is when a advertiser is disabled ie there campaign has end instead the ad are still running on your site and th ad provider redirects the traffic to ” Sorry the offer is now over” type pages, that’s ok but it would be nice to get and email saying so as well.

My recent experience was with a ad provider who owes me approx $7,000 is commision for last month decided to play hard ball on some the the finer Terms of Service and loopholes ad providers have.

No problem I’ll change to my backup Ad provider while it’s being sorted.

Login and my account is disabled due to inactivity, because I didn’t use my backup provider enough only on 1 blog they decided to cancl my account. Okay that’s not a problem, so I checked my one blog and the ad where still active, but hang on? My affiliate account is disabled yet they are still accepting my traffic?

Where’s the commisions and stats for that? (Gone!)

But wait I decided to search all my emails not one email from them saying my affiliate acount had been disabled.

So if then end I’m now abandoning all Ad providers and start my own advertising network with in excess of 5,240+ domains to advertise on I thought I’d start right here to see how it’s going to work.

Here’s what I did I found my top performing advertising and check there sites out to see if they host there own affiliate program cutting out the ad provider funny enough over 70% of them had there own affiliate program earning more than if I was to with the ad provider.

Now I’ve installed an open source advertising server called Openx and now categorised a few hundred domains to being testing the fantastic platform that allows me to work directly with advertisers.
